Stabilisation of the LHS spectral sequence for algebraic groups

In this note, we consider the Lyndon--Hochschild--Serre spectral sequence corresponding to the first Frobenius kernel of an algebraic group G, computing the extensions between simple $G$-modules. We state and discuss a conjecture that $E_2=E_\infty$ and provide general conditions for low-dimensional terms on the $E_2$-page to be the same as the corresponding terms on the $E_{\infty}$-page, i.e. its abutment.

Dimensions of Higher Extensions for SL_2

We analyse the recursive formula found for various Ext groups for $\SL_2(k)$, $k$ a field of characteristic $p$, and derive various generating functions for these groups. We use this to show that the growth rate for the cohomology of $\SL_2(k)$ is at least exponential. In particular, $\max \{\dim \Ext^i_{\SL_2(k)}(k, Δ(a))\mid a,i \in \N \}$ has (at least) exponential growth for all $p$. We also show that $\max \{\dim \Ext^i_{\SL_2(k)}(k, Δ(a))\mid a\in \N \}$ for a fixed $i$ is bounded.

Higher extensions between modules for SL_2

We calculate Ext^*_{SL_2(k)}(Δ(λ), Δ(μ)), Ext^*_{SL_2(k)}(L(λ), Δ(μ)), Ext^*_{SL_2(k)}(Δ(λ), L(μ)), and Ext^*_{SL_2(k)}(L(λ), L(μ)), where Δ(λ) is the Weyl module of highest weight λ, L(λ) is the simple SL_2(k)-module of highest weight λand our field k is algebraically closed of positive characteristic. We also get analogous results for the Dipper-Donkin quantisation. To do thus we construct the Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence in a new way, and find a new condition for the E_2 page of any spectral sequence to be the same as the E_\infty page.
