Birational geometry of symplectic quotient singularities

For a finite subgroup $Γ\subset \mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ and for $n\geq 1$, we use variation of GIT quotient for Nakajima quiver varieties to study the birational geometry of the Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on the minimal resolution $S$ of the Kleinian singularity $\mathbb{C}^2/Γ$. It is well known that $X:=\mathrm{Hilb}^{[n]}(S)$ is a projective, crepant resolution of the symplectic singularity $\mathbb{C}^{2n}/Γ_n$, where $Γ_n=Γ\wr\mathfrak{S}_n$ is the wreath product. We prove that every projective, crepant resolution of $\mathbb{C}^{2n}/Γ_n$ can be realised as the fine moduli space of $θ$-stable $Π$-modules for a fixed dimension vector, where $Π$ is the framed preprojective algebra of $Γ$ and $θ$ is a choice of generic stability condition. Our approach uses the linearisation map from GIT to relate wall crossing in the space of $θ$-stability conditions to birational transformations of $X$ over $\mathbb{C}^{2n}/Γ_n$. As a corollary, we describe completely the ample and movable cones of $X$ over $\mathbb{C}^{2n}/Γ_n$, and show that the Mori chamber decomposition of the movable cone is determined by an extended Catalan hyperplane arrangement of the ADE root system associated to $Γ$ by the McKay correspondence. In the appendix, we show that morphisms of quiver varieties induced by variation of GIT quotient are semismall, generalising a result of Nakajima in the case where the quiver variety is smooth.

Nef divisors for moduli spaces of complexes with compact support

In [BM14b], the first author and Macrì constructed a family of nef divisors on any moduli space of Bridgeland-stable objects on a smooth projective variety X. In this article, we extend this construction to the setting of any separated scheme Y of finite type over a field, where we consider moduli spaces of Bridgeland-stable objects on Y with compact support. We also show that the nef divisor is compatible with the polarising ample line bundle coming from the GIT construction of the moduli space in the special case when Y admits a tilting bundle and the stability condition arises from a θ-stability condition for the endomorphism algebra. Our main tool generalises the work of Abramovich--Polishchuk [AP06] and Polishchuk [Pol07]: given a t-structure on the derived category D_c(Y) on Y of objects with compact support and a base scheme S, we construct a constant family of t-structures on a category of objects on YxS with compact support relative to S.

Derived Reid's recipe for abelian subgroups of SL3(C)

For any finite subgroup G in SL3(C), work of Bridgeland-King-Reid constructs an equivalence between the G-equivariant derived category of C^3 and the derived category of the crepant resolution Y = G-Hilb(C^3) of C^3/G. When G is abelian we show that this equivalence gives a natural correspondence between irreducible representations of G and certain sheaves on exceptional subvarieties of Y, thereby extending the McKay correspondence from two to three dimensions. This categorifies Reid's recipe and extends earlier work from [CL09] and [Log10] which dealt only with the case when C^3/G has one isolated singularity.

Mori Dream Spaces as fine moduli of quiver representations

We construct Mori Dream Spaces as fine moduli spaces of representations of bound quivers, thereby extending results of Craw--Smith \cite{CrawSmith} beyond the toric case. Any collection of effective line bundles $\mathscr{L}=(\mathscr{O}_X, L_1,..., L_r)$ on a Mori Dream Space $X$ defines a bound quiver of sections and a map from $X$ to a toric quiver variety $|\mathscr{L}|$ called the multigraded linear series. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for this map to be a closed immersion and, under additional assumptions on $\mathscr{L}$, the image realises $X$ as the fine moduli space of $\vartheta$-stable representations of the bound quiver. As an application, we show how to reconstruct del Pezzo surfaces from a full, strongly exceptional collection of line bundles.

Cellular resolutions of noncommutative toric algebras from superpotentials

This paper constructs cellular resolutions for classes of noncommutative algebras, analogous to those introduced by Bayer-Sturmfels in the commutative case. To achieve this we generalise the dimer model construction of noncommutative crepant resolutions of toric algebras in dimension three by associating a superpotential and a notion of consistency to toric algebras of arbitrary dimension. For consistent algebras $A$, the coherent component of the fine moduli space of $A$-modules is constructed explicitly by GIT and provides a partial resolution of $\Spec Z(A)$. For abelian skew group algebras and algebraically consistent dimer model algebras, we introduce a cell complex $Δ$ in a real torus whose cells describe uniformly all maps in the minimal projective bimodule resolution of $A$. We illustrate the general construction of $Δ$ for an example in dimension four arising from a tilting bundle on a smooth toric Fano threefold to highlight the importance of the incidence function on $Δ$.

The Special McKay correspondence as an equivalence of derived categories

We give a new moduli construction of the minimal resolution of the singularity of type 1/r(1,a) by introducing the Special McKay quiver. To demonstrate that our construction trumps that of the G-Hilbert scheme, we show that the induced tautological line bundles freely generate the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on X by establishing a suitable derived equivalence. This gives a moduli construction of the Special McKay correspondence for abelian subgroups of GL(2).

Moduli of McKay quiver representations II: Groebner basis techniques

In this paper we introduce several computational techniques for the study of moduli spaces of McKay quiver representations, making use of Groebner bases and toric geometry. For a finite abelian group G in GL(n,k), let Y_θbe the coherent component of the moduli space of θ-stable representations of the McKay quiver. Our two main results are as follows: we provide a simple description of the quiver representations corresponding to the torus orbits of Y_θ, and, in the case where Y_θequals Nakamura's G-Hilbert scheme, we present explicit equations for a cover by local coordinate charts. The latter theorem corrects the first result from [Nakamura]. The techniques introduced here allow experimentation in this subject and give concrete algorithmic tools to tackle further open questions. To illustrate this point, we present an example of a nonnormal G-Hilbert scheme, thereby answering a question raised by Nakamura.

Projective toric varieties as fine moduli spaces of quiver representations

This paper proves that every projective toric variety is the fine moduli space for stable representations of an appropriate bound quiver. To accomplish this, we study the quiver $Q$ with relations $R$ corresponding to the finite-dimensional algebra $\bigl(\bigoplus_{i=0}^{r} L_i \bigr)$ where $\mathcal{L} := (\mathscr{O}_X,L_1, ...c, L_r)$ is a list of line bundles on a projective toric variety $X$. The quiver $Q$ defines a smooth projective toric variety, called the multilinear series $|\mathcal{L}|$, and a map $X \to |\mathcal{L}|$. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the induced map to be a closed embedding. As a consequence, we obtain a new geometric quotient construction of projective toric varieties. Under slightly stronger hypotheses on $\mathcal{L}$, the closed embedding identifies $X$ with the fine moduli space of stable representations for the bound quiver $(Q,R)$.

Moduli of McKay quiver representations I: the coherent component

For a finite abelian group G in GL(n,k), we describe the coherent component Y_theta of the moduli space M_theta of theta-stable McKay quiver representations. This is a not-necessarily-normal toric variety that admits a projective birational morphism to A^n/G obtained by variation of GIT quotient. As a special case, this gives a new construction of Nakamura's G-Hilbert scheme that avoids the (typically highly singular) Hilbert scheme of |G|-points in A^n. To conclude, we describe the toric fan of Y_theta and hence calculate the quiver representation corresponding to any point of Y_theta.

An explicit construction of the McKay correspondence for A-Hilb C^3

For a finite Abelian subgroup A of SL(3,C), Ito and Nakajima proved that the tautological bundles on the A-Hilbert scheme Y = A-Hilb(C^3) form a basis of the K-theory of Y. We establish the relations between these bundles in the Picard group of Y and hence, following a recipe introduced by Reid, construct an explicit basis of the integral cohomology of Y in one-to-one correspondence with the irreducible representations of A.
