Contextual road lane and symbol generation for autonomous driving

In this paper we present a novel approach for lane detection and segmentation using generative models. Traditionally discriminative models have been employed to classify pixels semantically on a road. We model the probability distribution of lanes and road symbols by training a generative adversarial network. Based on the learned probability distribution, context-aware lanes and road signs are generated for a given image which are further quantized for nearest class label. Proposed method has been tested on BDD100K and Baidu ApolloScape datasets and performs better than state of the art and exhibits robustness to adverse conditions by generating lanes in faded out and occluded scenarios.

Electron-Phonon Coupling and Quantum Correction to Topological Magnetoconductivity in Bi2GeTe4

We report on structure, vibrational properties and weak-antilocalization-(WAL-) induced quantum correction to magnetoconductivity in single crystal Bi2GeTe4. Surface band structure calculations show a single Dirac cone corresponding to topological surface states in Bi2GeTe4. An estimated phase coherence length, l_ϕ ~ 143 nm and prefactor α ~ - 1.54 from Hikami-Larkin-Nagaoka fitting of magnetoconductivity describe the quantum correction to conductivity. An anomalous temperature dependence of A1g Raman modes confirms enhanced electron-phonon interactions. Our results establish the involvement of vibrations of Bi-Te with existence of topological surface states and WAL in Bi2GeTe4.

An Environmentally Stable and Lead-Free Chalcogenide Perovskite

Organic-inorganic halide perovskites are intrinsically unstable when exposed to moisture and/or light. Additionally, the presence of lead in many perovskites raises toxicity concerns. Herein is reported a thin film of BaZrS3, a lead-free chalcogenide perovskite. Photoluminescence and X-ray diffraction measurements show that BaZrS3 is far more stable than methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) in moist environments. Moisture- and light-induced degradations in BaZrS3 and MAPbI3 are compared by using simulations and calculations based on density functional theory. The simulations reveal drastically slower degradation in BaZrS3 due to two factors - weak interaction with water, and very low rates of ion migration. BaZrS3 photo-detecting devices with photo-responsivity of ~46.5 mA W-1 are also reported. The devices retain ~60% of their initial photo-response after 4 weeks in ambient conditions. Similar MAPbI3 devices degrade rapidly and show ~95% decrease in photo-responsivity in just 4 days. The findings establish the superior stability of BaZrS3 and strengthen the case for its use in optoelectronics. New possibilities for thermoelectric energy conversion using these materials are also demonstrated.

Two Phonon Interactions and Charge Density Wave in Single Crystalline VSe2 Probed by Raman Spectroscopy

Charge density wave (CDW) is a unique phenomenon mostly realized in two-dimensional (2D) metallic layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). Here, we report on Raman spectroscopy of single crystal 1T-VSe2 and observed signature of commensurate CDW (C-CDW) and incommensurate (I-CDW) transition, in the temperature range of 50-120 K. The room temperature Raman spectra showed a sharp A1g mode ~ 206 cm-1 along with two new weak and broad Raman modes associated to Eg mode ~ 257 cm-1 and two-phonon mode (2ph) ~ 332 cm-1. The onset of I-CDW and C-CDW is estimated from resistance measurements supported by magnetic measurements. Remarkably, at the onset of I-CDW ~ 115 K, a significant enhancement in the intensity of weak Eg mode is observed along with emergence of a doubly degenerate Eg(2) mode ~ 144 cm-1. Below 70 K, a weak A1g mode ~ 170 cm-1 emerged signifying the onset of C-CDW. Anomalous phonon softening of Eg mode ~ 257 cm-1 and 2ph process mode below I-CDW has been also observed, which is signifying the involvement of electron-phonon coupling.

Anomalous Thermoelectric power of over-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 superconductor

Temperature dependence of thermoelectric power S(T) of three differently processed Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi2212) samples, viz. as-processed melt quenched (Bi2212-MQ), 6000C N2-annealed (Bi2212-N2) and 6000C O2-annealed (Bi2212-O2) is reported here. All the samples possess single-phase character and their superconducting transition temperatures (TcR=0) are 85 K, 90 K and 72 K respectively for Bi2212-MQ, Bi2212-N2 and Bi2212-O2. While Bi2212-MQ and Bi2212-N2 samples are in near optimum doping regime, Bi2212-O2 is an over-doped sample. TcS=0 values obtained through S(T) data are also in line with those deduced from the temperature dependence of resistance and DC magnetization. Interestingly, S(T) behaviour of the optimally-doped Bi2212-MQ and Bi2212-N2 samples is seen to be positive in whole temperature range, it is found negative for the over-doped Bi2212-O2 sample above TcS=0. These results have been seen in the light of the recent band structure calculations and the ensuing split Fermi surface as determined by angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES).
