EOS -- A Software for Flavor Physics Phenomenology

EOS is an open-source software for a variety of computational tasks in flavor physics. Its use cases include theory predictions within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics, Bayesian inference of theory parameters from experimental and theoretical likelihoods, and simulation of pseudo events for a number of signal processes. EOS ensures high-performance computations through a C++ back-end and ease of usability through a Python front-end. To achieve this flexibility, EOS enables the user to select from a variety of implementations of the relevant decay processes and hadronic matrix elements at run time. In this article, we describe the general structure of the software framework and provide basic examples. Further details and in-depth interactive examples are provided as part of the EOS online documentation.

$B\to P$ and $B\to V$ Form Factors from $B$-Meson Light-Cone Sum Rules beyond Leading Twist

We provide results for the full set of form factors describing semileptonic $B$-meson transitions to pseudoscalar mesons $π$, $K$, $\bar{D}$ and vector mesons $ρ$, $K^*$, $\bar{D}^*$. Our results are obtained within the framework of QCD Light-Cone Sum Rules with $B$-meson distribution amplitudes. We recalculate and confirm the results for the leading-twist two-particle contributions in the literature. Furthermore, we calculate and provide new expressions for the two-particle contributions up to twist four. Following new developments for the three-particle distribution amplitudes, we calculate and provide new results for the complete set of three-particle contributions up to twist four. The form factors are computed numerically at several phase space points using up-to-date input parameters, including correlations across phase space points and form factors. We use a model ansatz for all contributing $B$-meson distribution amplitudes that is self-consistent up to twist-four accuracy. We find that the higher-twist two-particle contributions have a substantial impact on the results, and dominate over the three-particle contributions. Our numerical results, including correlations, are provided as machine-readable ancillary files. We discuss the qualitative phenomenological impact of our results on the present $b$ anomalies.

Angular Analysis of \boldmath $Λ_b\to Λ_c (\to Λπ)\ell\barν$

We revisit the decay $Λ_b^0\to Λ_c^+ \ell^-\barν$ ($\ell = e,μ,τ$) with a subsequent two-body decay $Λ_c^+ \to Λ^0 π^+$ in the Standard Model and in generic New Physics models. The decay's joint four-differential angular distribution can be expressed in terms of ten angular observables, assuming negligible polarization of the initial $Λ_b$ state. We present compact analytical results for all angular observables, which enables us to discuss their possible New Physics reach. We find that the decay at hand probes more and complementary independent combinations of Wilson coefficients compared to its mesonic counter parts $\bar{B}\to D^{(*)}\ell^-\barν$. Our result for the angular distribution is at variance with some of the results on scalar-vector interference terms in the literature. We provide numerical estimates for all angular observables based on lattice-QCD results for the $Λ_b \to Λ_c$ form factors and account for a recent measurement of the parity-violating parameter in $Λ_c^+\to Λ^0π^+$ decays by BESIII. A numerical implementation of our results is made publicly available as part of the EOS software.

The double radiative $\bar{B}\to X_sγγ$ decay at $O(α_{s})$ in QCD

In these proceedings, we briefly review the individual interference contribution of the electromagnetic dipole operator $\mathcal{O}_{7}$ to the double differential decay width $dΓ_{77}/(ds_1\, ds_2)$ for the process $\bar{B} \to X_s γγ$ at $O(α_s)$ in QCD, which is based on our previous work. We define two kinematical variables $s_1$ and $s_2$ as $s_i=(p_b - q_i)^2/m_b^2$, where $p_b$, $q_1$, $q_2$ are the momenta of b-quark and two photons. While the (renormalized) virtual corrections are worked out exactly for a certain range of $s_1$ and $s_2$, we retained in the gluon bremsstrahlung process only the leading power w.r.t. the (normalized) hadronic mass $s_3=(p_b-q_1-q_2)^2/m_b^2$ in the underlying triple differential decay width $dΓ_{77}/(ds_1 ds_2 ds_3)$. We found that the double differential decay width, based on this approximation, is free of infrared- and collinear singularities when summing up the virtual- and real-radiation corrections, while this was not the case when keeping all powers in $s_3$ in the gluon bremsstrahlung process due to the configurations allowing collinear photon emission from the (massless) $s$-quark. Lastly, we compare our analytical results with those obtained in a recently extended work, where a non-zero strange quark mass was introduced to regulate the collinear photon configurations.

Flavor-phenomenology of two-Higgs-doublet models with generic Yukawa structure

We perform an extensive study of flavor observables in a 2HDM with generic Yukawa structure (the decoupling limit of the MSSM). We examine the effects in flavor physics and constrain the model both from tree-level processes and loop-observables. The free parameters of the model are the heavy Higgs mass, tan(β) and the "non-holomorphic" Yukawa couplings ε^f_ij (f=u,d,\ell). In our analysis we constrain the elements ε^f_ij in various ways: In a first step we give order of magnitude constraints on ε^f_ij from 't Hooft's naturalness criterion. Then we constrain the Yukawa structure of the type-III 2HDM from tree-level FCNC processes (B_s,d->μ^+μ^-, τ^-->μ^-μ^+μ^-, etc.) and observe that all flavor off-diagonal elements except ε^u_32,31 and ε^u_23,13 must be very small in order to satisfy the experimental bounds. In a third step, we consider Higgs mediated loop contributions to FCNC processes (b->s,dγ, μ->eγ, etc.) finding that also ε^u_13 and ε^u_23 must be very small, while the bounds on ε^u_31 and ε^u_32 are especially weak. Taking into account the constraints from FCNC processes we study the possible size of contributions from tree-level charged Higgs exchange. Interestingly, the unconstrained elements ε^u_{32,31} enter directly the branching ratios for B->τν, B->Dτνand B->D*τνand we show that the deviations from the SM predictions in these processes can be explained simultaneously. We give upper limits on the branching ratios of the lepton flavor-violating neutral B meson decays and correlate the radiative lepton decays to the corresponding neutral current lepton decays (τ^- ->μ^-μ^+μ^-, τ^- ->e^-μ^+μ^- and μ^- ->e^-e^+e^-). A detailed appendix contains all relevant information for the considered processes for general scalar-fermion-fermion couplings.

Flavour-violation in two-Higgs-doublet models

In these proceedings we review the flavour phenomenology of 2HDMs with generic Yukawa structures. We first consider the quark sector and find that despite the stringent constraints from FCNC processes large effects in tauonic B decays are still possible. We then consider lepton flavour observables, show correlations between μ-> eγand μ^- -> e^-e^+e^- in the 2HDM of type III and give upper bounds on the lepton flavour violating B decay B_d -> μe.

Explaining B->Dτν, B->D*τνand B->τνin a 2HDM of type III

Recently, the BaBar collaboration reported first evidence for new physics in B->Dτνand B->D*τν. Combining both processes the significance is 3.4σ. This result cannot be explained in a two Higgs doublet model of type II. Furthermore, the CKMfitter group finds a 2.9σdiscrepancy between the Standard Model prediction for Br[B->τν] (using Vub from a global fit to the unitary triangle) and the measurements of the B factories. Altogether, these measurements are strong indications for physics beyond the SM in B meson decays to taus. We show that in a two Higgs doublet model of type III it is possible to simultaneously explain \bdtau and \bdstau using a single free parameter ε^u_32. Also Br[B->τν] can be brought into agreement with experiment using ε^u_31. Furthermore, for Higgs (A^0, H^0, H^+) masses around 500 GeV, as suggested by recent CMS results, all bounds from FCNC processes are satisfied and B->Dτν, B->D*τνand B->τνcan be explained without a significant degree of fine-tuning.

The \bar{B} \to X_s γγdecay: NLL QCD contribution of the Electromagnetic Dipole operator O_7

We calculate the set of O(α_s) corrections to the double differential decay width dΓ_{77}/(ds_1 \, ds_2) for the process \bar{B} \to X_s γγoriginating from diagrams involving the electromagnetic dipole operator O_7. The kinematical variables s_1 and s_2 are defined as s_i=(p_b - q_i)^2/m_b^2, where p_b, q_1, q_2 are the momenta of b-quark and two photons. While the (renormalized) virtual corrections are worked out exactly for a certain range of s_1 and s_2, we retain in the gluon bremsstrahlung process only the leading power w.r.t. the (normalized) hadronic mass s_3=(p_b-q_1-q_2)^2/m_b^2 in the underlying triple differential decay width dΓ_{77}/(ds_1 ds_2 ds_3). The double differential decay width, based on this approximation, is free of infrared- and collinear singularities when combining virtual- and bremsstrahlung corrections. The corresponding results are obtained analytically. When retaining all powers in s_3, the sum of virtual- and bremstrahlung corrections contains uncanceled 1/εsingularities (which are due to collinear photon emission from the s-quark) and other concepts, which go beyond perturbation theory, like parton fragmentation functions of a quark or a gluon into a photon, are needed which is beyond the scope of our paper.
