Nonequilibrium "melting" of a charge density wave insulator via an ultrafast laser pulse

We employ an exact solution of the simplest model for pump-probe time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in charge-density-wave systems to show how, in nonequilibrium the gap in the density of states disappears while the charge density remains modulated, and then the gap reforms after the pulse has passed. This nonequilibrium scenario qualitatively describes the common short-time experimental features in TaS2 and TbTe3 indicating a quasiuniversality for nonequilibrium "melting" with qualitative features that can be easily understood within a simple picture.

Pulsed high harmonic generation of light due to pumped Bloch oscillations in noninteracting metals

We derive a simple theory for high-order harmonic generation due to pumping a noninteracting metal with a large amplitude oscillating electric field. The model assumes that the radiated light field arises from the acceleration of electrons due to the time-varying current generated by the pump, and also assumes that the system has a constant density of photoexcited carriers, hence it ignores the dipole excitation between bands (which would create carriers in semiconductors). We examine the circumstances under which odd harmonic frequencies would be expected to dominate the spectrum of radiated light, and we also apply the model to real materials like ZnO, for which high-order harmonic generation has already been demonstrated in experiments.

Vertex-corrected tunneling inversion in superconductors: Pb

The McMillan-Rowell tunneling inversion program, which extracts the electron-phonon spectral function $α^2F(Ω)$ and the Coulomb pseudopotential $μ^*$ from experimental tunneling data, is generalized to include the lowest-order vertex correction. We neglect the momentum dependence of the electron-phonon matrix elements, which is equivalent to using a local approximation. The perturbation theory is performed on the imaginary axis and then an exact analytic continuation is employed to produce the density of states on the real axis. Comparison is made with the experimental data for Pb.
