Search for Astrophysical Nanosecond Optical Transients with TAIGA-HiSCORE Array

A wide-angle Cerenkov array TAIGA-HiSCORE (FOV $\sim$0.6 sr), was originally created as a part of TAIGA installation for high-energy gamma-ray astronomy and cosmic ray physics. Array now consist on nearly 100 optical stations on the area of 1 km$^2$. Due to high accuracy and stability ($\sim$1 ns) of time synchronization of the optical stations the accuracy of EAS arrival direction reconstruction is reached 0.1$^\mathrm{o}$. It was proven that the array can also be used to search for nanosecond events of the optical range. The report discusses the method of searching for optical transients using the HiSCORE array and demonstrates its performance on a real example of detecting signals from an artificial Earth satellite. The search for this short flares in the HiSCORE data of the winter season 2018--2019 is carried out. One candidate for double repeater has been detected, but the estimated probability of random simulation of such a transient by background EAS events is not less than 10%, which does not allow us to say that the detected candidate corresponds to a real astrophysical transient. An upper bound on the frequency of optical spikes with flux density of more than $10^{-4} \mathrm{erg/s/cm}^2$ and a duration of more than 5\,ns is established as $\sim 2 \times 10^{-3}$ events/sr/hour.

COVID-19 dynamic model: Balanced identification of general biological and country specific social features

Breaking a complex bio-social phenomenon (epidemic) into its components, considering the processes that determine its dynamics, formalizing the accepted hypotheses in mathematical equations, selecting appropriate experimental and statistical material, and constructing a mathematical model - those are typical tasks of scientific research. A specific data processing method (balanced identification) and appropriate information technology made it possible to consider a number of models, determine the general biological laws of the virus-human interaction (common to all populations), and the country specific social features of epidemic management in the countries (or cities) under consideration. As the initial data, only new cases are used. Data from different countries is taken from official sources and processed in a uniform way. The obtained estimates of the number of undetected infected are lower estimates.

Optimization identification of superdiffusion processes in biology: an algorithm for processing observational data and a self-similar solution of the kinetic equation

This work is an attempt to transfer to biology the methods developed in physics for formulating and solving the kinetic equations in which the kernel of the integral operator in spatial coordinates is slowly decreasing with increasing distance and belongs to the class of Levy distributions. An algorithm is proposed for the reconstruction of the step-length probability density function (PDF) on a moderate number of trajectories of biological objects (migrants) and for the derivation of the Green's function of the corresponding integro-differential kinetic equation for the density of migrants in the entire space-time range, including the construction of an approximate self-similar solution. A wide class of time-dependent superdiffusion processes with a model power-law step-length PDF is considered, which corresponds to "Levy walks with rests" for given values of the migrant's constant velocity and the average time T of the migrant's stay between runs. The algorithm is tested within the framework of a synthetic diagnostics, consisting in the generation of artificial experimental data for trajectories of migrants and the subsequent reconstruction of the parameters of the step-length PDF and T. For different volumes of synthetic data, to obtain a general idea of the distributions under study (non-parametric case) and to evaluate the accuracy of recovering the parameters of the PDF (in the case of a parametric representation), the method of balanced identification is used. The approximate self-similar solution for the parameters of step-length PDF and T is shown to provide reasonable accuracy of the space-time evolution of migrant's density.

Time Projection Chamber as Inner Tracker for Super Charm-Tau Factory at BINP

At present time Budker INP is developing a Super Charm-Tau factory project, which consists of a high-luminosity collider with the luminosity of $10^{35}$,cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ and a universal magnetic detector. The tracking system of the detector will comprise of an Inner Tracker (IT) and a Drift Chamber (DC). One of the options for IT is Time Projection Chamber (TPC). The advantages of the TPC are high spatial resolution and particle identification capabilities by registration of dE/dx losses. However, using a Time Projection Chamber implies serious challenges. For example, the TPC have to simultaneously deal with tracks from several thousands events and maintain the enormous data rate. This work describes the results of the Monte-Carlo studies of the transport characteristics in various gas mixtures proposed for TPC. Besides of this, the simulation of the ion back flow and its effect on spatial resolution will be reported.

Measurement of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV at the KEDR detector

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider, we have measured the values of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ at seven points of the center-of-mass energy between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV. The total achieved accuracy is about or better than $3.3\%$ at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about $2.1\%$. At the moment it is the most accurate measurement of $R(s)$ in this energy range.

Measurement of $J/ψ\toγη_{\rm c}$ decay rate and $η_{\rm c}$ parameters at KEDR

Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the $J/ψ$ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay $J/ψ\toγη_{\rm c}$ as well as $η_{\rm c}$ mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained $Γ^0_{γη_{\rm c}}=2.98\pm0.18 \phantom{|}^{+0.15}_{-0.33}$ keV, $M_{η_{\rm c}} = 2983.5 \pm 1.4 \phantom{|}^{+1.6}_{-3.6}$ MeV/$c^2$, $Γ_{η_{\rm c}} = 27.2 \pm 3.1 \phantom{|}^{+5.4}_{-2.6}$ MeV.

Measurement of the ratio of the leptonic widths $Γ_{ee}/Γ_{μμ}$ for the $J/ψ$ meson

The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the $J/ψ$ meson has been measured using direct $J/ψ$ decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The result $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)/Γ_{μμ}(J/ψ)=1.0022\pm0.0044\pm0.0048\ (0.65\%)$ is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for a $J/ψ$ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.

Coherent transfer of optical orbital angular momentum in multi-order Raman sideband generation

Experimental results from the generation of Raman sidebands using optical vortices are presented. By generating two sets of sidebands originating from different locations in a Raman active crystal, one set containing optical orbital angular momentum and the other serving as a reference, a Young's double slit experiment was simultaneously realized for each sideband. The interference between the two sets of sidebands was used to determine the helicity and topological charge in each order. Topological charges in all orders were found to be discrete and follow selection rules predicted by a cascaded Raman process.

Measurement of ψ(3770) parameters

We report the final results of a study of the ψ(3770) meson using a data sample collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The data analysis takes into account the interference between the resonant and nonresonant $D\bar{D}$ production, where the latter is related to the nonresonant part of the energy-dependent form factor $F_D$. The vector dominance approach and several empirical parameterizations have been tried for the nonresonant $F_D^{\NR}(s)$. Our results for the mass and total width of ψ(3770) are M = 3779.2 ^{+1.8}_{-1.7} ^{+0.5}_{-0.7} ^{+0.3}_{-0.3} MeV, Γ=24.9 ^{+4.6}_{-4.0} ^{+0.5}_{-0.6} ^{+0.2}_{-0.9} MeV, where the first, second and third uncertainties are statistical, systematic and model, respectively. For the electron partial width two possible solutions have been found: (1) Γ_{ee} = 154 ^{+79}_{-58} ^{+17}_{-9} ^{+13}_{-25} eV, (2) Γ_{ee} = 414 ^{+72}_{-80} ^{+24}_{-26} ^{+90}_{-10} eV. Our statistics are insufficient to prefer one solution to another. The solution (2) mitigates the problem of non-$D\bar{D}$ decays but is disfavored by potential models. It is shown that taking into account the resonance--continuum interference in the near-threshold region affects resonance parameters, thus the results presented can not be directly compared with the corresponding PDG values obtained ignoring this effect.

Measurement of J/psi leptonic width with the KEDR detector

We report a new precise determination of the leptonic widths of the J/psi meson performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The measured values of the J/psi parameters are: Γ_{ee}\timesΓ_{ee}/Γ= 0.3323 \pm 0.0064 (stat.) \pm 0.0048 (syst.) keV Γ_{ee}\timesΓ_{μμ}/Γ=0.3318 \pm 0.0052 (stat.) \pm 0.0063 (syst.) keV. Assuming $eμ$ universality and using the table value of the branching ratios the leptonic Γ_{ll}= 5.59 \pm 0.12 keV width and the total Γ=94.1 \pm 2.7 keV widths were obtained. We also discuss in detail a method to calculate radiative corrections at a narrow resonance.

Measurement of main parameters of the ψ(2S) resonance

A high-precision determination of the main parameters of the ψ(2S) resonance has been performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e^{+}e^{-} collider in three scans of the ψ(2S) -- ψ(3770) energy range. Fitting the energy dependence of the multihadron cross section in the vicinity of the ψ(2S) we obtained the mass value M = 3686.114 +- 0.007 +- 0.011 ^{+0.002}_{-0.012} MeV and the product of the electron partial width by the branching fraction into hadrons Γ_{ee}*B_{h} = 2.233 +- 0.015 +- 0.037 +- 0.020 keV. The third error quoted is an estimate of the model dependence of the result due to assumptions on the interference effects in the cross section of the single-photon e^{+}e^{-} annihilation to hadrons explicitly considered in this work. Implicitly, the same assumptions were employed to obtain the charmonium leptonic width and the absolute branching fractions in many experiments. Using the result presented and the world average values of the electron and hadron branching fractions, one obtains the electron partial width and the total width of the ψ(2S): Γ_{ee} =2.282 +- 0.015 +- 0.038 +- 0.021 keV, Γ= 296 +- 2 +- 8 +- 3 keV. These results are consistent with and more than two times more precise than any of the previous experiments.

Measurement of B(J/psi->eta_c gamma) at KEDR

We present a study of the inclusive photon spectrum from 6.3 million J/psi decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of the radiative decay J/psi -> eta_c gamma, eta_c width and mass. Taking into account an asymmetric photon line shape we obtain: M(eta_c) = (2978.1 +- 1.4 +- 2.0) MeV/c^2, Gamma(eta_c) = (43.5 +- 5.4 +- 15.8) MeV, B(J/psi->eta_c gamma) = (2.59 +- 0.16 +- 0.31)%$.

Measurement of Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)*Br(J/ψ->e^+e^-) and Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)*Br(J/ψ->μ^+μ^-)

The products of the electron width of the J/ψmeson and the branching fraction of its decays to the lepton pairs were measured using data from the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The results are Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)*Br(J/ψ->e^+e^-)=(0.3323\pm0.0064\pm0.0048) keV, Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)*Br(J/ψ->μ^+μ^-)=(0.3318\pm0.0052\pm0.0063) keV. Their combinations Γ_{ee}\times(Γ_{ee}+Γ_{μμ})/Γ=(0.6641\pm0.0082\pm0.0100) keV, Γ_{ee}/Γ_{μμ}=1.002\pm0.021\pm0.013 can be used to improve theaccuracy of the leptonic and full widths and test leptonic universality. Assuming eμuniversality and using the world average value of the lepton branching fraction, we also determine the leptonic Γ_{ll}=5.59\pm0.12 keV and total Γ=94.1\pm2.7 keV widths of the J/ψmeson.

Spectral singularities for Non-Hermitian one-dimensional Hamiltonians: puzzles with resolution of identity

We examine the completeness of bi-orthogonal sets of eigenfunctions for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians possessing a spectral singularity. The correct resolutions of identity are constructed for delta like and smooth potentials. Their form and the contribution of a spectral singularity depend on the class of functions employed for physical states. With this specification there is no obstruction to completeness originating from a spectral singularity.

Factorization of non-linear supersymmetry in one-dimensional Quantum Mechanics. II: proofs of theorems on reducibility

In this paper, we continue to study factorization of supersymmetric (SUSY) transformations in one-dimensional Quantum Mechanics into chains of elementary Darboux transformations with nonsingular coefficients. We define the class of potentials that are invariant under the Darboux - Crum transformations and prove a number of lemmas and theorems substantiating the formulated formerly conjectures on reducibility of differential operators for spectral equivalence transformations. Analysis of the general case is performed with all the necessary proofs.

Factorization of nonlinear supersymmetry in one-dimensional Quantum Mechanics. I: general classification of reducibility and analysis of the third-order algebra

We study possible factorizations of supersymmetric (SUSY) transformations in the one-dimensional quantum mechanics into chains of elementary Darboux transformations with nonsingular coefficients. A classification of irreducible (almost) isospectral transformations and of related SUSY algebras is presented. The detailed analysis of SUSY algebras and isospectral operators is performed for the third-order case.

Non-Hermitian Quantum Mechanics of Non-diagonalizable Hamiltonians: puzzles with self-orthogonal states

We consider QM with non-Hermitian quasi-diagonalizable Hamiltonians, i.e. the Hamiltonians having a number of Jordan cells in particular biorthogonal bases. The "self-orthogonality" phenomenon is clarified in terms of a correct spectral decomposition and it is shown that "self-orthogonal" states never jeopardize resolution of identity and thereby quantum averages of observables. The example of a complex potential leading to one Jordan cell in the Hamiltonian is constructed and its origin from level coalescence is elucidated. Some puzzles with zero-binorm bound states in continuous spectrum are unraveled with the help of a correct resolution of identity.

Nonlinear supersymmetry in Quantum Mechanics: algebraic properties and differential representation

We study the Nonlinear (Polynomial, N-fold,...) Supersymmetry algebra in one-dimensional QM. Its structure is determined by the type of conjugation operation (Hermitian conjugation or transposition) and described with the help of the Super-Hamiltonian projection on the zero-mode subspace of a supercharge. We show that the SUSY algebra with transposition symmetry is always polynomial in the Hamiltonian if supercharges represent differential operators of finite order. The appearance of the extended SUSY with several (complex or real) supercharges is analyzed in details and it is established that no more than two independent supercharges may generate a Nonlinear superalgebra which can be appropriately specified as {\cal N} = 2 SUSY. In this case we find a non-trivial hidden symmetry operator and rephrase it as a non-linear function of the Super-Hamiltonian on the physical state space. The full {\cal N} = 2 Non-linear SUSY algebra includes "central charges" both polynomial and non-polynomial (due to a symmetry operator) in the Super-Hamiltonian.
