Conceptual design of the Spin Physics Detector

The Spin Physics Detector, a universal facility for studying the nucleon spin structure and other spin-related phenomena with polarized proton and deuteron beams, is proposed to be placed in one of the two interaction points of the NICA collider that is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia). At the heart of the project there is huge experience with polarized beams at JINR. The main objective of the proposed experiment is the comprehensive study of the unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon. Spin measurements at the Spin Physics Detector at the NICA collider have bright perspectives to make a unique contribution and challenge our understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon. In this document the Conceptual Design of the Spin Physics Detector is presented.

DbarD and DD pair production at the LHCb in the parton Reggeization approach

We study the inclusive DbarD and DD pair production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at lead- ing order of the parton Reggeization approach endowed with universal scale-depended fragmen- tation functions for c-quark to D-meson and for gluon to D-meson transitions. We have described DbarD and DD distributions in azimuthal angle, as well as transverse momentum, rapidity distance, and invariant mass measured in the region of large rapidity 2 < y < 4 by the LHCb Collabora- tion at the LHC without free parameters. We have used Reggeized amplitudes for the processes RR - gg and RR - c barc which are obtained accordingly to Feynman rules of the L.N. Lipatov effective theory of Reggeized partons, and Kimber-Martin-Ryskin model for unintegrated gluon distribution function in a proton with Martin-Stirling-Thorne-Watt collinear parton distributions as inputs.

Prompt J/psi production in the Regge limit of QCD: From Tevatron to LHC

We study prompt J/psi-meson hadroproduction invoking the hypothesis of gluon Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics at the leading order in the strong-coupling constant alpha_s and the relative velocity of quarks v. The transverse-momentum distribution of direct and prompt J/psi-meson production measured at the Fermilab Tevatron fitted to obtain the nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements, which are used to predict prompt J/psi production spectra at the CERN LHC. At the numerical calculation, we adopt the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin and Blumlein prescriptions to derive unintegrated gluon distribution function of the proton from their collinear counterpart, for which we use the Martin-Roberts-Stirling-Thorne set. Without adjusting any free parameters, we find good agreement with measurements by the ATLAS, CMS and LHCb Collaborations at the LHC at the hadronic c.m. energy sqrt S=7 TeV.

Single jet and prompt-photon inclusive production with multi-Regge kinematics: From Tevatron to LHC

We study single jet and prompt-photon inclusive hadroproduction with multi-Regge kinematics invoking the hypothesis of parton Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy. In this approach, the leading contributions are due to the fusion of two Reggeized gluons into a Yang-Mills gluon and the annihilation of a Reggeized quark-antiquark pair into a photon, respectively. Adopting the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin and Bluemlein prescription to derive unintegrated gluon and quark distribution functions of the proton from their collinear counterparts, for which we use the Martin-Roberts-Stirling-Thorne set, we evaluate cross section distributions in transverse momentum (p_T) and rapidity. Without adjusting any free parameters, we find good agreement with measurements by the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Tevatron and by the ATLAS Collaboration at the LHC in the region 2p_T/sqrt{S} < 0.1, where sqrt{S} is the hadronic c.m. energy.

Inclusive b and b anti-b production with quasi-multi-Regge kinematics at the Tevatron

We consider b-jet hadroproduction in the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematics approach based on the hypothesis of gluon and quark Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energies. The preliminary data on inclusive b-jet and b anti-b-dijet production taken by the CDF Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron are well described without adjusting parameters. We find the main contribution to inclusive b-jet production to be the scattering of a Reggeized gluon and a Reggeized b-quark to a b quark, which is described by the effective Reggeon-Reggeon-quark vertex. The main contribution to b anti-b-pair production arises from the scattering of two Reggeized gluons to a b anti-b pair, which is described by the effective Reggeon-Reggeon-quark-quark vertex. Our anaysis is based on the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription for unintegrated gluon and quark distribution functions using as input the Martin-Roberts-Stirling-Thorne collinear parton distribution functions of the proton.

Inclusive jet production at Tevatron in the Regge limit of QCD

We consider inclusive hadroproduction of jets, prompt photons, b-jets, and D-mesons in the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematics approach based on the hypothesis of gluon and quark Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energies. The data taken by the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Fermilab Tevatron are well described without adjusting parameters. We find the main contribution to inclusive jet production to be the scattering of two Reggeized gluons, described by the effective Reggeon-Reggeon-gluon vertex, and to b-jet and D-meson production --- the scattering of a Reggeized gluon and a Reggeized quark to an ordinary quark, being expressed in terms of the Reggeon-Reggeon-quark vertex. The main contribution to prompt photon production arises from Reggeized quark-Reggeized antiquark annihilation, which is described by the effective Reggeon-Reggeon-photon vertex. Our analysis is based on the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription for unintegrated gluon and quark distribution functions using as input the Martin-Roberts-Stirling-Thorne collinear parton distribution functions of the proton.

On relative contributions of fusion and fragmentation mechanisms in J/psi photoproduction at high energy

We study J/psi photoproduction via the fusion and fragmentation mechanisms at the HERA Collider within the frameworks of the collinear parton model and the quasi-multi-Regge kinematics approach using the factorization formalism of non-relativistic QCD at leading order in the strong-coupling constant alpha_s and the relative velocity v of the bound quarks. It is shown that the fusion production mechanism dominates over the fragmentation production mechanism at the all relevant J/psi transverse momenta. The J/psi meson p_T-spectra in the fragmentation and fusion production at the asymptotically large p_T have equal slopes in the quasi-multi-Regge kinematics approach, oppocite the collinear parton model.
