Hints Beyond $Λ$CDM from Barrow and Tsallis Holographic Dark Energy with GO cutoff

Barrow and Tsallis Holographic Dark Energy (HDE) are two recent extensions of the standard HDE framework, obtained by introducing generalized entropy corrections through the Barrow and Tsallis formalisms. In this work, we examine the cosmological consequences of Barrow and Tsallis HDE implemented with the Granda-Oliveros (GO) infrared (IR) cutoff. After deriving the modified Friedmann equations within the thermodynamic-gravity conjecture, we study the background evolution in both non-interacting and interacting dark sector scenarios, emphasizing the role of the entropic parameter in shaping late-time dynamics. We then confront the model with state-of-the-art observations, including PantheonPlus and Union3 Type Ia supernovae, Cosmic Chronometers and DESI DR2 BAO measurements. Using Bayesian MCMC methods, we constrain the model parameters and compare the performance of BHDE with that of $Λ$CDM. Our results show that BHDE is compatible with current data and can exhibit a mild statistical preference over the concordance model for certain dataset combinations. Overall, the analysis underscores the relevance of generalized entropy frameworks in late-time cosmology and identifies Barrow-Tsallis holography with the GO cutoff as a competitive alternative to $Λ$CDM.

Holographic dark energy in modified Kaniadakis cosmology

It is well-known that any modification to the entropy expression not only change the energy density of the holographic dark energy, but also modifies the cosmological field equations through thermodynamics-gravity correspondence. Here we propose a Kaniadakis holographic dark energy (KHDE) in the background of the modified Kaniadakis cosmology by incorporating the effects of Kaniadakis entropy into the Friedmann equations. We choose the Hubble radius, $L=H^{-1}$, as system's IR cutoff and determine the cosmological implications of this model. We first consider a dark energy (DE) dominated universe and reveal that this model mimics the cosmological constant with $w_{DE}=-1$. This implies that the theoretical origin of the cosmological constant, $Λ$, may be understood through KHDE in the context of Kaniadakis cosmology. Remarkably, we observe that in the absence of interaction between DE and dark matter (DM), and in contrast to HDE in standard cosmology, our model can explain the current acceleration of the cosmic expansion for the Hubble radius as IR cutoff. When the interaction between DE and DM is taken into account, we see that the total equation of state parameter (EoS), $w_{tot}=p_{tot}/ρ_{tot}$ can cross the phantom line at the present time. We also analyze the squared speed of sound, $v_s^2$, for this model and find out that $(v_s^2<0)$ for interacting KHDE. Investigating the statefinder, confirms the distinction between KHDE and $Λ$CDM model. It is seen that the statefinder diagram move away from the point of $\left\lbrace r,s\right\rbrace= \left\lbrace 1,0\right\rbrace$ with increasing the interaction parameter.

Revisiting Agegraphic Dark Energy in Brans-Dicke Cosmology

We explore a spatially homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe which is filled with agegraphic dark energy (ADE) with mutual interaction with pressureless dark matter in the background of Brans-Dicke (BD) theory. We consider both original and new type of agegraphic dark energy (NADE) and further assume the sign of the interaction term can change during the history of the Universe. We obtain the equation of state parameter, the deceleration parameter and the evolutionary equation for the sign-changeable interacting ADE and NADE in BD theory. We find that, in both models, the equation of state parameter, $w_D$, cannot cross the phantom line, although they can predict the Universe evolution from the early deceleration phase to the late time acceleration, compatible with observations. We also investigate the sound stability of these models and find out that both models cannot show a signal of stability for different model parameters.

Stability of HDE model with sign-changeable interaction in Brans-Dicke theory

We consider the Brans-Dicke (BD) theory of gravity and explore the cosmological implications of the sign-changeable interacting holographic dark energy (HDE) model in the background of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. As the system's infrared (IR) cutoff, we choose the future event horizon, the Granda-Oliveros (GO) and the Ricci cutoffs. For each cutoff, we obtain the density parameter, the equation of state (EoS) and the deceleration parameter of the system. In case of future event horizon, we find out that the EoS parameter, $w_{D}$, can cross the phantom line, as a result the transition from deceleration to acceleration expansion of the universe can be achieved provided the model parameters are chosen suitably. Then, we investigate the instability of the sign-changeable interacting HDE model against perturbations in BD theory. For this purpose, we study the squared sound speed $v_s^2$ whose sign determines the stability of the model. When $v_s^2<0$ the model is unstable against perturbation. For future event horizon cutoff, our universe can be stable (${v}^{2}_s>0$) depending on the model parameters. Then, we focus on GO and Ricci cutoffs and find out that although other features of these two cutoffs seem to be consistent with observations, they cannot leads to stable dominated universe, except in special case with GO cutoff. Our studies confirm that for the sign-changeable HDE model in the setup of BD cosmology, the event horizon is the most suitable horizon which can passes all conditions and leads to a stable DE dominated universe.

Analytical study of holographic superconductor in Born-Infeld electrodynamics with backreaction

We generalize the analytical investigation on the properties of $s$-wave holographic superconductors in the presence of Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics by taking the backreaction into account. We find that in the presence of nonlinear gauge field, one can still employ the analytical method when the backreaction is turned on. Our calculation is based on the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem, which is a variational method. For the system under consideration, we obtain the relation between the critical temperature and the charge density. We find that both backreaction and Born-Infeld parameters decrease the critical temperature of the superconductor and make the condensation harder. At the ned of paper, we calculate the critical exponent associated with the condensation near the critical temperature and find that it has the universal value $1/2$ of the mean field theory.

Comment on "Insight into the Microscopic Structure of an AdS Black Hole from a Thermodynamical Phase Transition"

Thermodynamic geometry analysis of interesting Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 111302 (2015)] for charged AdS black holes, which is based on studying the Ruppeiner invariant behavior is not correct and the authors made a mistake in calculating this quantity. In the present Letter, we address the correct Ruppeiner scalar curvature and reveal the correct possible microscopic properties of 4-dimensional charged AdS black holes arise from it. Some of these properties have not been discussed in pointed out Letter.

Critical behavior of Born-Infeld dilaton black holes

We explore the critical behavior of (n+1)-dimensional topological Born-Infeld-dilaton black holes in an extended phase space. We treat the cosmological constant and the Born-Infeld (BI) parameter as the thermodynamic pressure and BI vacuum polarization which can vary. We obtain thermodynamic quantities of the system such as pressure, temperature, Gibbs free energy, and investigate the behaviour of these quantities. We also study the analogy of the van der Waals liquid-gas system with the Born-Infeld-dilaton black holes in canonical ensemble in which we can treat the black hole charge as a fixed external parameter. Moreover, we show that the critical values of pressure, temperature and volume are physical provided the coupling constant of dilaton gravity is less than one and the horizon is sphere. Finally, we calculate the critical xponents and show that although thermodynamic quantities depend on the dilaton oupling constant, BI parameter and the dimension of the spacetime, they are universal and are independent of metric parameters.

Emergent Universe in the Braneworld Scenario

According to Padmanabhan's proposal, the difference between the surface degrees of freedom and the bulk degrees of freedom in a region of space may result in the acceleration of Universe expansion through the relation $ΔV/Δt = N_{\rm sur}-N_{\rm bulk}$ where $N_{\rm bulk}$ and $N_{\rm sur}$ are referred to the degrees of freedom related to the matter and energy content inside the bulk and surface area, respectively \cite{Pad1}. In this paper, we study the dynamical effect of the extrinsic geometrical embedding of an arbitrary four dimensional brane in a higher dimensional bulk space and investigate the corresponding degrees of freedom. Considering the modification of Friedmann equations arising from a general braneworld scenario, we obtain a correction term in Padmanabhan's relation, denoting the number of degrees of freedom related to the extrinsic geometry of the brane embedded in higher dimensional spacetime as $ΔV /Δt=N_{\rm sur}-N_{\rm bulk}-N_{\rm extr}$ where $N_{\rm extr}$ is referred to the degree of freedom related to the extrinsic geometry of the brane while $N_{\rm sur}$ and $N_{\rm bulk}$ are as well as before. Finally, we study the validity of the first and second laws of thermodynamics for this general braneworld scenario in the state of thermal equilibrium and in the presence of confined matter fields to the brane with the induced geometric matter fields.

From the Komar Mass and Entropic Force Scenarios to the Einstein Field Equations on the Ads Brane

By bearing the Komar's definition for the mass, together with the entropic origin of gravity in mind, we find the Einstein field equations in $(n+1$)-dimensional spacetime. Then, by reflecting the ($4+1$)-dimensional Einstein equations on the ($3+1$)-hypersurface, we get the Einstein equations onto the $3$-brane. The corresponding energy conditions are also addressed. Since the higher dimensional considerations modify the Einstein field equations in the ($3+1$)-dimensions and thus the energy-momentum tensor, we get a relation for the Komar mass on the brane. In addition, the strongness of this relation compared with existing definition for the Komar mass on the brane is addressed.

Holographic Conductivity for Logarithmic Charged Dilaton-Lifshitz Solutions

We disclose the effects of the logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics on the holographic conductivity of Lifshitz dilaton black holes/branes. We analyze thermodynamics of these solutions as a necessary requirement for applying gauge/gravity duality, by calculating conserved and thermodynamic quantities such as the temperature, entropy, electric potential and mass of the black holes/branes. We calculate the holographic conductivity for a $(2+1)$-dimensional brane boundary and study its behavior in terms of the frequency per temperature. Interestingly enough, we find out that, in contrast to the Lifshitz-Maxwell-dilaton black branes which has conductivity for all $z$, here in the presence of nonlinear gauge field, the holographic conductivity do exist provided $z\leq3$ and vanishes for $z>3$. It is shown that independent of the nonlinear parameter $β$, the real part of the conductivity is the same for a specific value of frequency per temperature in both AdS and Lifshitz cases. Besides, the behavior of real part of conductivity for large frequencies has a positive slope with respect to large frequencies for a system with Lifshitz symmetry whereas it tends to a constant for a system with AdS symmetry. This behavior may be interpreted as existence of an additional charge carrier rather than the AdS case, and is due to the presence of the scalar dilaton field in model. Similar behavior for optical conductivity of single-layer graphene induced by mild oxygen plasma exposure has been reported.

Thermodynamics and gauge/gravity duality for Lifshitz black holes in the presence of exponential electrodynamics

In this paper, we construct a new class of topological black hole Lifshitz solutions in the presence of nonlinear exponential electrodynamics for Einstein-dilaton gravity. We show that the reality of Lifshitz supporting Maxwell matter fields exclude the negative horizon curvature solutions except for the asymptotic AdS case. Calculating the conserved and thermodynamical quantities, we obtain a Smarr type formula for the mass and confirm that thermodynamics first law is satisfied on the black hole horizon. Afterward, we study the thermal stability of our solutions and figure out the effects of different parameters on the stability of solutions under thermal perturbations. Next, we apply the gauge/gravity duality in order to calculate the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy for a three-dimensional hydrodynamic system by using the pole method. Furthermore, we study the behavior of holographic conductivity for two-dimensional systems such as graphene. We consider linear Maxwell and nonlinear exponential electrodynamics separately and disclose the effect of nonlinearity on holographic conductivity. We indicate that holographic conductivity vanishes for $z>3$ in the case of nonlinear electrodynamics while it does not in the linear Maxwell case. Finally, we solve perturbative additional field equations numerically and plot the behaviors of real and imaginary parts of conductivity for asymptotic AdS and Lifshitz cases. We present experimental results match with our numerical ones.

Thermodynamics of charged rotating dilaton black branes coupled to logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics

We construct a new class of charged rotating black brane solutions in the presence of logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics with complete set of the rotation parameters in arbitrary dimensions. The topology of the horizon of these rotating black branes are flat, while, due to the presence of the dilaton field the asymptotic behaviour of them are neither flat nor (anti)-de Sitter [(A)dS]. We investigate the physical properties of the solutions. The mass and angular momentum of the spacetime are obtained by using the counterterm method inspired by AdS/CFT correspondence. We derive temperature, electric potential and entropy associated with the horizon and check the validity of the first law of thermodynamics on the black brane horizon. We study thermal stability of the solutions in both canonical and grand canonical ensemble and disclose the effects of the rotation parameter, nonlinearity of electrodynamics and dilaton field on the thermal stability conditions. We find the solutions are thermally stable for $α<1$, while for $α>1$ the solutions may encounter an unstable phase where $α$ is dilaton-electromagnetic coupling constant.

Dilaton black holes coupled to nonlinear electrodynamic field

The theory of nonlinear electrodynamics has got a lot of attentions in recent years. It was shown that Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics is not the only modification of the linear Maxwell's field which keeps the electric field of a charged point particle finite at the origin, and other type of nonlinear Lagrangian such as exponential and logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics can play the same role. In this paper, we generalize the study on the exponential nonlinear electrodynamics by adding a scalar dilaton field to the action. By suitably choosing the coupling of the matter field to the dilaton field, we vary the action and obtain the corresponding field equations. Then, by making a proper ansatz, we construct a new class of charged dilaton black hole solutions coupled to the exponential nonlinear electrodynamics field in the presence of two Liouville-type potentials for the dilaton field. Due to the presence of the dilaton field, the asymptotic behavior of these solutions are neither flat nor (A)dS. In the limiting case where the nonlinear parameter $β^2$ goes to infinity, our solution reduces to the Einstein-Maxwell dilaton black holes. We obtain the mass, temperature, entropy and electric potential of these solutions. We also study the behaviour of the electric field as well as the electric potential of these black holes near the origin. We find that the electric field has a finite value \textit{near} the origin, which is the same as the electric field of Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics, but it can diverge exactly at $r=0$ depending on the model parameters. We also investigate the effects of the dilaton field on the behaviour of the electric field and electric potential. Finally, we check the validity of the first law of black hole thermodynamics on the black hole horizon.

Higher dimensional dilaton black holes in the presence of exponential nonlinear electrodynamics

We examine the higher dimensional action in which gravity is coupled to the exponential nonlinear electrodynamic and a scalar dilaton field. We construct a new class of $n$-dimensional static and spherically symmetric black hole solutions of this theory in the presence of the dilaton potential with two Liouville-type terms. In the presence of two Liouville-type dilaton potential, the asymptotic behavior of the obtained black holes are neither flat nor (A)dS. Due to the nonlinear nature of electrodynamic field, the electric field has finite value near the origin where $r\rightarrow0$ and goes to zero as $r\rightarrow\infty$. Interestingly enough, we find that in the absence of the dilaton field, the electric field has a finite value at $r=0$, while as soon as the dilaton field is taken into account, the electric field diverges as $r\rightarrow 0$. This implies that the presence of the dilaton field changes the behaviour of the electric field near the origin. In the limiting case where the nonlinear parameter $β$ goes to infinity, our solutions reduce to dilaton black holes of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in higher dimensions. We compute the conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the solutions and show that these quantities satisfy the first law of black holes thermodynamics on the horizon.

Holographic dark energy in the DGP braneworld with GO cutoff

We consider the holographic dark energy (HDE) model in the framework of DGP braneworld with Granda-Oliveros infrared (IR) cutoff, $L=(α\dot{H}+βH^2)^{-1/2}$. With this choice for IR cutoff, we are able to derive evolution of the cosmological parameters such as the equation of state and the deceleration parameters, $w$ and $q$, as the functions of the redshift parameter $z$. As far as we know, most previous models of HDE presented in the literatures, do not gives analytically $ω=ω(z)$ and $q=q(z)$. We plot the evolution of these parameters versus $z$ and discuss that the results are compatible with the recent observations. With suitably choosing the parameters, this model can exhibit a transition from deceleration to the acceleration around $z\approx 0.6$. Then, we suggest a correspondence between the quintessence and tachyon scalar fields and HDE in the framework of DGP braneworld. This correspondence allows us to reconstruct the evolution of the scalar fields and the scalar potentials. We also investigate stability of the presented model by calculating the squared sound speed, $v^2_s$, whose sign determines the stability of the model. Our study shows that $v^2_s$ could be positive provided the parameters of the model are chosen suitably. In particular, for $α>1$, $β>0$, and $α<1$, $β<0$, we have $v^2_s>0$ during the history of the universe, and so the stable dark energy dominated universe can be achieved. This is in contrast to the HDE in standard cosmology, which is unstable against background perturbations and so cannot lead to a stable dark energy dominated universe.

New holographic dark energy model inspired by the DGP braneworld

The energy density of the holographic dark energy is based on the area law of entropy, and thus any modification of the area law leads to a modified holographic energy density. Inspired by the entropy expression associated with the apparent horizon of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe in DGP braneworld, we propose a new model for the holographic dark energy in the framework of DGP brane cosmology. We investigate the cosmological consequences of this new model and calculate the equation of state parameter by choosing the Hubble radius, $L = H^{-1}$, as the system's IR cutoff. Our study show that, due to the effects of the extra dimension (bulk), the identification of IR-cutoff with Hubble radius, can reproduce the present acceleration of the Universe expansion. This is in contrast to the ordinary holographic dark energy in standard cosmology which leads to the zero equation of state parameter in the case of choosing the Hubble radius as system's IR cutoff in the absence of interaction between dark matter and dark energy.

P-V criticality of charged dilatonic black holes

In this paper, we investigate the critical behavior of charged black holes of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in the presence of two Liouville-type potentials which make the solution asymptotically neither flat nor AdS and has a parameter $% Λ$ treated as a thermodynamic quantity that can vary. We obtain a Smarr-type relation for charged dilatonic black holes and find out that the volume is different from the geometrical volume. We study the analogy of the Van der Waals liquid-gas system with the charged dilatonic black hole system while we treat the black hole charge as a fixed external parameter. Moreover, we show that the critical values for pressure, temperature and volume are physical provided the coupling constant of dilaton gravity is less than one and the horizon is sphere. Finally, we calculate the critical exponents and show that they are universal and are independent of the details of the system although the thermodynamic quantities depend on the dilaton parameter and the dimension of the spacetime.

Phase transition and thermodynamic geometry of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton black holes

In this paper, we consider a linearly charged dilatonic black holes and study their thermodynamical behavior in the context of phase transition and thermodynamic geometry. We show that, depending on the values of the parameters, these type of black holes may enjoy two types of phase transition. We also find that there are three critical behaviors near the critical points for these black holes; nonphysical unstable to physical stable, large to small, and small to large black holes phase transition. Next, we employ a thermodynamical metric for studying thermodynamical geometry of these black holes. We show that the characteristic behavioral of Ricci scalar of this metric enables one to recognize the type of phase transition and critical behavior of the black holes near phase transition points. Finally, we will extend thermodynamical space by considering dilaton parameter as extensive parameter. We will show that by this consideration, Weinhold, Ruppeiner and Quevedo metrics provide extra divergencies which are not related to any phase transition point whereas our new method is providing an effective machinery.

Statefinder diagnosis for holographic dark energy in the DGP braneworld

Many dark energy (DE) models have been proposed, in recent years, to explain acceleration of the Universe expansion. It seems necessary to discriminate the various DE models in order to check the viability of each model. Statefinder diagnostic is a useful method which can differentiate various DE models. In this paper, we investigate the statefinder diagnosis parameters for the holographic dark energy (HDE) model in two cosmological setup. First, we study statefinder diagnosis for HDE in the context of flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe in Einstein gravity. Then, we extend our study to the DGP braneworld framework. As system's IR cutoff we chose the Hubble radius and the Granda-Oliveros cutoff inspired by Ricci scalar curvature. We plot the evolution of statefinder parameres $\{r,s\}$ in terms of the redshift parameter $z$. We also compare the results with those obtained for statefinder diagnosis parameters of other DE models, in particular with $Λ$CDM model.

Thermodynamical description of the ghost dark energy model

In this paper, we point out thermodynamical description of ghost dark energy and its generalization to the early universe. Thereinafter, we find expressions for the entropy changes of these dark energy candidates. In addition, considering thermal fluctuations, thermodynamics of the dark energy component interacting with a dark matter sector is addressed. {We will also find the effects of considering the coincidence problem on the mutual interaction between the dark sectors, and thus the equation of state parameter of dark energy.} Finally, we derive a relation between the mutual interaction of the dark components of the universe, accelerated with the either ghost dark energy or its generalization, and the thermodynamic fluctuations.

Thermodynamics of charged rotating dilaton black branes with power-law Maxwell field

In this paper, we construct a new class of charged rotating dilaton black brane solutions, with complete set of rotation parameters, which is coupled to a nonlinear Maxwell field. The Lagrangian of the matter field has the form of the power-law Maxwell field. We study the causal structure of the spacetime and its physical properties in ample details. We also compute thermodynamic and conserved quantities of the spacetime such as the temperature, entropy, mass, charge, and angular momentum. We find a Smarr-formula for the mass and verify the validity of the first law of thermodynamics on the black brane horizon. Finally, we investigate the thermal stability of solutions in both canonical and grand-canonical ensembles and disclose the effects of dilaton field and nonlinearity of Maxwell field on the thermal stability of the solutions. We find that for $α\leq 1$, charged rotating black brane solutions are thermally stable independent of the values of the other parameters. For $α>1$, the solutions can encounter an unstable phase depending on the metric parameters.

Thermodynamics of Gauss-Bonnet-Dilaton Lifshitz Black Branes

We explore an effective supergravity action in the presence of a massless gauge field which contains the Gauss-Bonnet term as well as a dilaton field. We construct a new class of black brane solutions of this theory with the Lifshitz asymptotic by fixing the parameters of the model such that the asymptotic Lifshitz behavior can be supported. Then we construct the well-defined finite action through the use of the counterterm method. We also obtain two independent constants along the radial coordinate by combining the equations of motion. Calculations of these two constants at infinity through the use of the large-$r$ behavior of the metric functions show that our solution respects the no-hair theorem. Furthermore, we combine these two constants in order to get a constant $C$ which is proportional to the energy of the black brane. We calculate this constant at the horizon in terms of the temperature and entropy, and at large-$r$ in terms of the geometrical mass. By calculating the value of the energy density through the use of the counterterm method, we obtain the relation between the energy density, the temperature, and the entropy. This relation is the generalization of the well-known Smarr formula for AdS black holes. Finally, we study the thermal stability of our black brane solution and show that it is stable under thermal perturbations.

Thermodynamics of higher dimensional topological dilaton black holes with power-law Maxwell field

In this paper, we extend the study on the nonlinear power-law Maxwell field to dilaton gravity. We introduce the $(n+1)$-dimensional action in which gravity is coupled to a dilaton and power-law nonlinear Maxwell field, and obtain the field equations by varying the action. We construct a new class of higher dimensional topological black hole solutions of Einstein-dilaton theory coupled to a power-law nonlinear Maxwell field and investigate the effects of the nonlinearity of the Maxwell source as well as the dilaton field on the properties of the spacetime. Interestingly enough, we find that the solutions exist provided one assumes three Liouville-type potentials for the dilaton field, and in case of the Maxwell field one of the Liouville potential vanishes. After studying the physical properties of the solutions, we compute the mass, charge, electric potential and temperature of the topological dilaton black holes. We also study thermodynamics and thermal stability of the solutions and disclose the effects of the dilaton field and the power-law Maxwell field on the thermodynamics of these black holes. Finally, we comment on the dynamical stability of the obtained solutions in four-dimensions.

Thermodynamics of nonlinear charged Lifshitz black branes with hyperscaling violation

In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics of hyperscaling violating Lifshitz black branes in the presence of a nonlinear massless electromagnetic field. We, first, obtain analytic nonlinear charged black brane solutions with hyperscaling violating factor in dilaton gravity and give the condition on the parameters of the metric for having black brane solutions. Second, we introduce the appropriate finite action in grand-canonical and canonical ensembles for nonlinear electromagnetic field. Next, by generalizing the counterterm method for the asymptotic Lifshitz spacetimes with hyperscaling violating factor, we calculate the energy density of our solutions. Then, we present a relation between the energy density and the thermodynamic quantities, electric potential, charge density, temperature and entropy density. This relation is the generalization of Smarr formula for anti-de Sitter black branes and charged Lifshiz solutions. Finally, we perform a stability analysis in both the canonical and grand-canonical ensemble. We show that the nonlinearity of electromagnetic field can make the solutions unstable in grand-canonical ensemble.

Thermodynamics of topological black holes in Brans-Dicke gravity with a power-law Maxwell field

In this paper, we present a new class of higher dimensional exact topological black hole solutions of the Brans-Dicke theory in the presence of a power-law Maxwell field as the matter source. For this aim, we introduce a conformal transformation which transforms the Einstein-dilaton-power-law Maxwell gravity Lagrangian to the Brans-Dicke-power-law Maxwell theory one. Then, by using this conformal transformation, we obtain the desired solutions. Next, we study the properties of the solutions and conditions under which we have black holes. Interestingly enough, we show that there is a cosmological horizon in the presence of a negative cosmological constant. Finally, we calculate the temperature and charge and then by calculating the Euclidean action, we obtain the mass, the entropy and the electromagnetic potential energy. We find that the entropy does not respect the area law, and also the conserved and thermodynamic quantities are invariant under conformal transformation. Using these thermodynamic and conserved quantities, we show that the first law of black hole thermodynamics is satisfied on the horizon.

Thermodynamics of topological nonlinear charged Lifshitz black holes

In this paper, we construct a new class of analytic topological Lifshitz black holes with constant curvature horizon in the presence of power-law Maxwell field in four and higher dimensions. We find that in order to obtain these exact Lifshitz solutions, we need a dilaton and at least three electromagnetic fields. Interestingly enough, we find that the reality of the charge of the electromagnetic field which is needed for having solutions with curved horizon rules out black holes with hyperbolic horizon. Next, we study the thermodynamics of these nonlinear charged Lifshitz black holes with spherical and flat horizons by calculating all the conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the solutions. Furthermore, we obtain a generalized Smarr formula and show that the first law of thermodynamics is satisfied. We also perform a stability analysis in both canonical and grand-canonical ensemble. We find that the solutions are thermally stable in a proper ranges of the metric parameters. Finally, we comment on the dynamical stability of the obtained solutions under perturbations in four dimensions.

Best values of parameters for interacting HDE with GO IR-cutoff in Brans-Dicke cosmology

We investigate the interacting holographic dark energy (HDE) with Granda-Oliveros (GO) IR-cutoff in the framework of Brans-Dicke (BD) cosmology. We obtain the equation of state (EoS) parameter of HDE, $w_D$, the effective EoS parameter $w_{\mathrm{eff}}$, the deceleration parameter $q $ and the squared of sound speed $v_s^2$ in a flat FRW universe. We show that at late time the cosmic coincidence problem can be alleviated. Also we show that for non-interacting case, HDE can give a unified dark matter-dark energy profile in BD cosmology, except that it cannot solve the coincidence problem in the future. By studying the equation of state parameter, we see that the phantom divide may be crossed. Using the latest observational data, we calculate the best values of the parameters for interacting HDE in BD framework. Computing the deceleration parameter implies that the transition from deceleration to the acceleration phase occurred for redshift $z\geq 0.5$. Finally, we investigate the sound stability of the model, and find that HDE with GO cutoff in the framework of BD cosmology can lead to a stable DE-dominated universe favored by observations, provided we take $β=0.44$ and $b^2<0.35$. This is in contrast to HDE model in Einstein gravity which does not lead to a stable DE dominated universe.

Horizon Thermodynamics and Gravitational Field Equations in Quasi-Topological Gravity

In this paper we show that the gravitational field equations of $(n+1)$% -dimensional topological black holes with constant horizon curvature, in cubic and quartic quasi-topological gravity, can be recast in the form of the first law of thermodynamics, $dE=TdS-PdV$, at the black hole horizon. This procedure leads to extract an expression for the horizon entropy as well as the energy (mass) in terms of the horizon radius, which coincide exactly with those obtained in quasi-topological gravity by solving the field equations and using the Wald's method. We also argue that this approach is powerful and can be extended to all higher order quasi-topological gravity for extracting the corresponding entropy and energy in terms of horizon radius.

Emergence of spacetime dynamics in entropy corrected and braneworld models

A very interesting new proposal on the origin of the cosmic expansion was recently suggested by Padmanabhan [arXiv:1206.4916]. He argued that the difference between the surface degrees of freedom and the bulk degrees of freedom in a region of space drives the accelerated expansion of the universe, as well as the standard Friedmann equation through relation $% \triangle V=\triangle t(N_{\mathrm{sur}}-N_{\mathrm{bulk}})$. In this paper, we first present the general expression for the number of degrees of freedom on the holographic surface, $N_{\mathrm{sur}}$, using the general entropy corrected formula $S=\frac{A}{4 L_{p}^2}+s(A)$. Then, as two example, by applying the Padmanabhan's idea we extract the corresponding Friedmann equations in the presence of power-law and logarithmic correction terms in the entropy. We also extend the study to RS II and DGP branworld models and derive successfully the correct form of the Friedmann equations in these theories. Our study further supports the viability of Padmanabhan's proposal.

Friedmann equations in braneworld scenarios from emergence of cosmic space

Recently, it was argued that the spacetime dynamics can be understood by calculating the difference between the degrees of freedom on the boundary and in the bulk in a region of space. In this Letter, we apply this new idea to braneworld scenarios and extract the corresponding Friedmann equations of $(n-1)$-dimensional brane embedded in the $(n+1)$-dimensional bulk with any spacial curvature. We will also extend our study to the more general Gauss-Bonnet braneworld with curvature correction terms on the brane and in the bulk, and derive the dynamical equation in a nonflat Universe.

Generalized ghost dark energy in Brans-Dicke theory

It was argued that the vacuum energy of the Veneziano ghost field of QCD, in a time-dependent background, can be written in the general form, $H + O(H^2)$, where $H$ is the Hubble parameter. Based on this, a phenomenological dark energy model whose energy density is of the form $ρ=αH+βH^{2}$ was recently proposed to explain the dark energy dominated universe. In this paper, we investigate this generalized ghost dark energy model in the setup of Brans-Dicke cosmology. We study the cosmological implications of this model. In particular, we obtain the equation of state and the deceleration parameters and a differential equation governing the evolution of this dark energy model. It is shown that the equation of state parameter of the generalized ghost dark energy can cross the phantom line ($w_D=-1$) in some range of the parameters spaces.

Rotating black strings in $f(R)$-Maxwell theory

In general, the field equations of $f(R)$ theory coupled to a matter field are very complicated and hence it is not easy to find exact analytical solutions. However, if one considers traceless energy-momentum tensor for the matter source as well as constant scalar curvature, one can derive some exact analytical solutions from $f(R)$ theory coupled to a matter field. In this paper, by assuming constant curvature scalar, we construct a class of charged rotating black string solutions in $f(R)$-Maxwell theory. We study the physical properties and obtain the conserved quantities of the solutions. The conserved and thermodynamic quantities computed here depend on function $f'(R_{0})$ and differ completely from those of Einstein theory in AdS spaces. Besides, unlike Einstein gravity, the entropy does not obey the area law. We also investigate the validity of the first law of thermodynamics as well as the stability analysis in the canonical ensemble, and show that the black string solutions are always thermodynamically stable in $f(R)$-Maxwell theory with constant curvature scalar. Finally, we extend the study to the case where the Ricci scalar is not a constant and in particular $R=R(r)$. In this case, by using the Lagrangian multipliers method, we derive an analytical black string solution from $f(R)$ gravity and reconstructed the function $R(r)$. We find that this class of solutions has an additional logaritmic term in the metric function which incorporates the effect of the $f(R)$ theory in the solutions.

Thermodynamics of Quasi-Topological Cosmology

In this paper, we study thermodynamical properties of the apparent horizon in a universe governed by quasi-topological gravity. Our aim is twofold. First, by using the variational method we derive the general form of Friedmann equation in quasi-topological gravity. Then, by applying the first law of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon, after using the entropy expression associated with the black hole horizon in quasi-topological gravity, and replacing the horizon radius, $r_{+}$, with the apparent horizon radius, $\tilde{r}_{A}$, we derive the corresponding Friedmann equation in quasi-topological gravity. We find that these two different approaches yield the same result which show the profound connection between the first law of thermodynamics and the gravitational field equations of quasi-topological gravity. We also study the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in quasi-topological cosmology. We find that, with the assumption of the local equilibrium hypothesis, the generalized second law of thermodynamics is fulfilled for the universe enveloped by the apparent horizon for the late time cosmology.

Einstein Equations and MOND Theory from Debye Entropic Gravity

Verlinde's proposal on the entropic origin of gravity is based strongly on the assumption that the equipartition law of energy holds on the holographic screen induced by the mass distribution of the system. However, from the theory of statistical mechanics we know that the equipartition law of energy does not hold in the limit of very low temperature. Inspired by the Debye model for the equipartition law of energy in statistical thermodynamics and adopting the viewpoint that gravitational systems can be regarded as a thermodynamical system, we modify Einstein field equations. We also perform the study for Poisson equation and modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND). Interestingly enough, we find that the origin of the MOND theory can be understood from Debye entropic gravity perspective. Thus our study may fill in the gap existing in the literature understanding the theoretical origin of MOND theory. In the limit of high temperature our results reduce to their respective standard gravitational equations.

Lovelock gravity from entropic force

In this paper, we first generalize the formulation of entropic gravity to (n+1)-dimensional spacetime. Then, we propose an entropic origin for Gauss-Bonnet gravity and more general Lovelock gravity in arbitrary dimensions. As a result, we are able to derive Newton's law of gravitation as well as the corresponding Friedmann equations in these gravity theories. This procedure naturally leads to a derivation of the higher dimensional gravitational coupling constant of Friedmann/Einstein equation which is in complete agreement with the results obtained by comparing the weak field limit of Einstein equation with Poisson equation in higher dimensions. Our study shows that the approach presented here is powerful enough to derive the gravitational field equations in any gravity theory. PACS: 04.20.Cv, 04.50.-h, 04.70.Dy.

Power Law Entropy Corrected New-Agegraphic Dark Energy in Hořava-Lifshitz Cosmology

We investigate the new agegraphic dark energy (NADE) model with power-law corrected entropy in the framework of Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology. For a non-flat universe containing the interacting power-law entropy-corrected NADE (PLECNADE) with dark matter, we obtain the differential equation of the evolution of density parameter as well as the deceleration parameter. To study parametric behavior, we used an interesting form of state parameter as function of redshift $ω_Λ(z)=ω_0+ω_1 z$. We found that phantom crossing occurs for the state parameter for a non-zero coupling parameter, thus supporting interacting dark energy model.

Tachyon Reconstruction of Ghost Dark Energy

Recently it has been argued that a possible source for the dark energy may arise due to the contribution to the vacuum energy of the QCD ghost in a time-dependent background. In this paper we establish a connection between interacting ghost dark energy and tachyon field. It is demonstrated that the evolution of the ghost dark energy dominated universe can be described completely by a single tachyon scalar field. The potential and the dynamics of the tachyon field are reconstructed according to the evolutionary behavior of ghost energy density.

Entropic Corrections to Coulomb's Law

Two well-known quantum corrections to the area law have been introduced in the literatures, namely, logarithmic and power-law corrections. Logarithmic corrections, arises from loop quantum gravity due to thermal equilibrium fluctuations and quantum fluctuations, while, power-law correction appears in dealing with the entanglement of quantum fields in and out the horizon. Inspired by Verlinde's argument on the entropic force, and assuming the quantum corrected relation for the entropy, we propose the entropic origin for the Coulomb's law in this note. Also we investigate the Uehling potential as a radiative correction to Coulomb potential in 1-loop order and show that for some value of distance the entropic corrections of the Coulomb's law is compatible with the vacuum-polarization correction in QED. So, we derive modified Coulomb's law as well as the entropy corrected Poisson's equation which governing the evolution of the scalar potential $ϕ$. Our study further supports the unification of gravity and electromagnetic interactions based on the holographic principle.

Generalized second law of thermodynamics in modified FRW cosmology with corrected entropy-area relation

Using the corrected entropy-area relation motivated by the loop quantum gravity, we investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in the framework of modified FRW cosmology. We consider a non-flat universe filled with an interacting viscous dark energy with dark matter and radiation. The boundary of the universe is assumed to be the dynamical apparent horizon. We find out that the generalized second law is always satisfied throughout the history of the universe for any spatial curvature regardless of the dark energy model.

Interacting Ghost Dark Energy in Non-Flat Universe

A new dark energy model called "ghost dark energy" was recently suggested to explain the observed accelerating expansion of the universe. This model originates from the Veneziano ghost of QCD. The dark energy density is proportional to Hubble parameter, $ρ_D=αH$, where $α$ is a constant of order $Λ_{\rm QCD}^3$ and $Λ_{\rm QCD}\sim 100 MeV$ is QCD mass scale. In this paper, we extend the ghost dark energy model to the universe with spatial curvature in the presence of interaction between dark matter and dark energy. We study cosmological implications of this model in detail. In the absence of interaction the equation of state parameter of ghost dark energy is always $w_D > -1 $ and mimics a cosmological constant in the late time, while it is possible to have $w_D < -1 $ provided the interaction is taken into account. When $k = 0$, all previous results of ghost dark energy in flat universe are recovered. To check the observational consistency, we use Supernova type Ia (SNIa) Gold sample, shift parameter of Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) and the Baryonic Acoustic Oscillation peak from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The best fit values of free parameter at $1σ$ confidence interval are: $Ω_m^0= 0.35^{+0.02}_{-0.03}$, $Ω_D^0=0.75_{-0.04}^{+0.01}$ and $b^2=0.08^{+0.03}_{-0.03}$. Consequently the total energy density of universe at present time in this model at 68% level equates to $Ω_{\rm tot}^0=1.10^{+0.02}_{-0.05}$.

Power-law entropy-corrected HDE and NADE in Brans-Dicke cosmology

Considering the power-law corrections to the black hole entropy, which appear in dealing with the entanglement of quantum fields inside and outside the horizon, the holographic energy density is modified accordingly. In this paper we study the power-law entropy-corrected holographic dark energy in the framework of Brans-Dicke theory. We investigate the cosmological implications of this model in detail. We also perform the study for the new agegraphic dark energy model and calculate some relevant cosmological parameters and their evolution. {As a result we find that this model can provide the present cosmic acceleration and even the equation of state parameter of this model can cross the phantom line $w_D=-1$ provided the model parameters are chosen suitably}.

Thermodynamics of viscous dark energy in an RSII braneworld

We show that for an RSII braneworld filled with interacting viscous dark energy and dark matter, one can always rewrite the Friedmann equation in the form of the first law of thermodynamics, $dE=T_hdS_h+WdV$, at apparent horizon. In addition, the generalized second law of thermodynamics can fulfilled in a region enclosed by the apparent horizon on the brane for both constant and time variable 5-dynamical Newton's constant $G_5$. These results hold regardless of the specific form of the dark energy. Our study further support that in an accelerating universe with spatial curvature, the apparent horizon is a physical boundary from the thermodynamical point of view.

Viscous dark energy and generalized second law of thermodynamics

We examine the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in a non-flat universe in the presence of viscous dark energy. At first we assume that the universe filled only with viscous dark energy. Then, we extend our study to the case where there is an interaction between viscous dark energy and pressureless dark matter. We examine the time evolution of the total entropy, including the entropy associated with the apparent horizon and the entropy of the viscous dark energy inside the apparent horizon. Our study show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics is always protected in a universe filled with interacting viscous dark energy and dark matter in a region enclosed by the apparent horizon. Finally, we show that the the generalized second law of thermodynamics is fulfilled for a universe filled with interacting viscous dark energy and dark matter in the sense that we take into account the Casimir effect.

Charged rotating dilaton black branes in AdS universe

We present the metric for the $(n+1)$-dimensional charged rotating dilaton black branes with cylindrical or toroidal horizons in the background of anti-de Sitter spacetime. We find the suitable counterterm which removes the divergences of the action in the presence of the dilaton potential in all higher dimensions. We plot the Penrose diagrams of the spacetime and reveal that the spacetime geometry crucially modifies in the presence of the dilaton field. The conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the black branes are also computed.

Thermodynamic instability of charged dilaton black holes in AdS spaces

We study thermodynamic instability of a class of $(n+1)$-dimensional charged dilaton black holes in the background of anti-de Sitter universe. We calculate the quasilocal mass of the AdS dilaton black hole through the use of the subtraction method of Brown and York. We find a Smarr-type formula and perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble and disclose the effect of the dilaton field on the thermal stability of the solutions. Our study shows that the solutions are thermally stable for small $α$, while for large $α$ the system has an unstable phase, where $α$ is a coupling constant between the dilaton and matter field.

Thermodynamical description of the interacting new agegraphic dark energy

We describe the thermodynamical interpretation of the interaction between new agegraphic dark energy and dark matter in a non-flat universe. When new agegraphic dark energy and dark matter evolve separately, each of them remains in thermodynamic equilibrium. As soon as an interaction between them is taken into account, their thermodynamical interpretation changes by a stable thermal fluctuation. We obtain a relation between the interaction term of the dark components and this thermal fluctuation.

Thermodynamics of higher dimensional topological charged AdS black branes in dilaton gravity

In this paper, we study topological AdS black branes of $(n+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory and investigate their properties. We use the area law, surface gravity and Gauss law interpretations to find entropy, temperature and electrical charge, respectively. We also employ the modified Brown and York subtraction method to calculate the quasilocal mass of the solutions. We obtain a Smarr-type formula for the mass as a function of the entropy and the charge, compute the temperature and the electric potential through the Smarr-type formula and show that these thermodynamic quantities coincide with their values which are calculated through using the geometry. Finally, we perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble and investigate the effects of the dilaton field and the size of black brane on the thermal stability of the solutions. We find that large black branes are stable but for small black brane, depending on the value of dilaton field and type of horizon, we encounter with some unstable phases.

Higher Dimensional Charged Rotating Dilaton Black Holes

In this paper, we present the metric for the $n$-dimensional charged slowly rotating dilaton black hole with $N = [(n -1)/2]$ independent rotation parameters, associated with $N$ orthogonal planes of rotation in the background of asymptotically flat and asymptotically (anti)-de Sitter spacetime. The mass, angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of such a black hole are determined for the arbitrary values of the dilaton coupling constant. We find that the gyromagnetic ratio crucially depends on the dilaton coupling constant, $α$, and decreases with increasing $α$ in any dimension.

We thus reconstruct the potential as well as the dynamics of the tachyon field according to the evolutionary behavior of interacting agegraphic dark energy.

Magnetic Branes in Brans-Dicke-Maxwell Theory

We present a new class of magnetic brane solutions in $(n+1)$-dimensional Brans-Dicke-Maxwell theory in the presence of a quadratic potential for the scalar field. These solutions are neither asymptotically flat nor (anti)-de Sitter. Our strategy for constructing these solutions is applying a conformal transformation to the corresponding solutions in dilaton gravity. This class of solutions represents a spacetime with a longitudinal magnetic field generated by a static brane. They have no curvature singularity and no horizons but have a conic geometry with a deficit angle $δ$. We generalize this class of solutions to the case of spinning magnetic brane with all rotation parameters. We also use the counterterm method and calculate the conserved quantities of the solutions.

Thermodynamics of Charged Brans-Dicke AdS Black Holes

It is well-known that in four dimensions, black hole solution of the Brans-Dikce-Maxwell equations is just the Reissner-Nordstrom solution with a constant scalar field. However, in $n\geq4$ dimensions, the solution is not yet the $(n+1)$-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom solution and the scalar field is not a constant in general. In this paper, by applying a conformal transformation to the dilaton gravity theory, we derive a class of black hole solutions in $(n+1)$-dimensional $(n\geq 4)$ Brans-Dikce-Maxwell theory in the background of anti-de Sitter universe. We obtain the conserved and thermodynamic quantities through the use of the Euclidean action method. We find a Smarr-type formula and perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble. We find that the solution is thermally stable for small $α$, while for large $α$ the system has an unstable phase, where $α$ is a coupling constant between the scalar and matter field.

Charged rotating black holes in dilaton gravity

We consider charged black holes with curved horizons, in five dimensional dilaton gravity in the presence of Liouville-type potential for the dilaton field. We show how, by solving a pair of coupled differential equations, infinitesimally small angular momentum can be added to these static solutions to obtain charged rotating dilaton black hole solutions. In the absence of dilaton field, the non-rotating version of the solution reduces to the five dimensional Reissner-Nordström black hole, and the rotating version reproduces the five dimensional Kerr-Newman modification thereof for small rotation parameter. We also compute the angular momentum and the angular velocity of these rotating black holes which appear at the first order.

Thermodynamics of rotating black branes in $(n+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton gravity

In this paper, we construct a new class of charged, rotating solutions of $% (n+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton gravity with Liouville-type potentials and investigate their properties. These solutions are neither asymptotically flat nor (anti)-de Sitter. We find that these solutions can represent black brane, with inner and outer event horizons, an extreme black brane or a naked singularity provided the parameters of the solutions are chosen suitably. We also compute temperature, entropy, charge, electric potential, mass and angular momentum of the black brane solutions, and show that these quantities satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. We find that the conserved quantities are independent of the Born-Infeld parameter $β$, while they depend on the dilaton coupling constant $α$. We also find the total mass of the black brane with infinite boundary as a function of the entropy, the angular momenta and the charge and perform a stability analysis by computing the heat capacity in the canonical ensemble. We find that the system is thermally stable for $α\leq 1$ independent of the values of the charge and Born-Infeld parameters, while for $α> 1$ the system has an unstable phase. In the latter case, the solutions are stable provided $α\leq α_{\max}$ and $β\geq β_{\min}$, where $% α_{\max}$ and $β_{\min}$ depend on the charge and the dimensionality of the spacetime. That is the solutions are unstable for highly nonlinear electromagnetic field or when the dilaton coupling constant is large.
