Analytically Approximation Solution to Einstein-Cubic Gravity

In this work, we introduce an analytical approximate black hole solution in Einstein-Cubic gravity. To obtain complete solutions, we construct the near horizon and asymptotic solutions as the first step. Then, the approximate analytic solutions are obtained through continued fraction expansion. We also compute the thermodynamic quantities and use the first law and Smarr formula to obtain the analytic solutions for the near horizon quantities. Finally, we follow the same approach to obtain the new static black hole solutions with different metric functions.

Quantum Cosmology in Thick Brane

One of the interesting open problems in the cosmological framework is applying quantum physics to the whole universe, consistently. Although different conceptual aspects of quantum cosmology are still very much alive, till now, all the attempts of obtaining a unique and well-defined version of quantum cosmology have been unfeasible. Motivated by what was mentioned above, in this paper, the quantum tunneling of thick brane is investigated by deriving the Wheeler-DeWitt equation and corresponding solutions. Besides, the cosmological analysis of the brane is studied based on two special cases of the scalar field. Finally, it is found that the constant scalar potential arising from a time-dependent scalar field is supported by the so-called slow-roll inflation.

Black Hole Remnant in Massive Gravity

The possibility of a nonzero graviton mass has been widely pursued in the literature. In this work we investigate a black hole solution in massive gravity with a degenerate fiducial metric often used in the literature. We find that the end state of Hawking evaporation leads to black hole remnant, which could help to ameliorate the information paradox. We prove that these remnants only exist in anti-de Sitter spacetime. Nevertheless, we speculate on their possible relevance to our Universe as dark matter candidate, in view of the possibility that our Universe could be inherently anti-de Sitter-like, with a transient accelerated expansion phase.

Range of novel black hole phase transitions via massive gravity: Triple points and N-fold reentrant phase transitions

Massive gravities in anti-de Sitter spacetime can be viewed as effective dual field theories of different phases of condensed matter systems with broken translational symmetry such as solids, (perfect) fluids, and liquid crystals. Motivated by this fact, we explore the black hole chemistry (BHC) of these theories and find a new range of novel phase transitions close to realistic ones in ordinary physical systems. We find that the equation of state of topological black holes (TBHs) at their inflection point(s) in $d$-dimensional spacetime reduces to a polynomial equation of degree $(d-4)$, which yields up to $n=(d-4)$ critical points. As a result, for (neutral) TBHs, we observe triple-point phenomena with the associated first-order phase transitions (in $d \ge 7$), and a new phenomenon we call an $N$-fold reentrant phase transition, in which several ($N$) regions of thermodynamic phase space exhibit distinct reentrant phase transitions, with associated virtual triple points and zeroth-order phase transitions (in $d \ge 8$), as well as Van der Waals transitions (in $d \ge 5$) and reentrant (in $d \ge 6$) behavior. We conclude that BHC in higher-dimensional massive gravity is very likely to offer further new surprises.

Simulation of geodesic trajectory of charged BTZ black holes in massive gravity

In order to classify and understand the spacetime structure, investigation of the geodesic motion of massive and massless particles is a key tool. So the geodesic equation is a central equation of gravitating systems and the subject of geodesics in the black hole dictionary attracted much attention. In this paper, we give a full description of geodesic motions in three-dimensional spacetime. We investigate the geodesics near charged BTZ black holes and then generalize our prescriptions to the case of massive gravity. We show that electric charge is a critical parameter for categorizing the geodesic motions of both lightlike and timelike particles. In addition, we classify the type of geodesics based on the particle properties and geometry of spacetime.

Thermodynamics, shadow and quasinormal modes of black holes in five-dimensional Yang-Mills massive gravity

In this paper, we consider the Einstein-massive gravity coupled to the Yang-Mills gauge field in five dimensions. Concentrating on the static solutions with planar horizon geometry, we explore the thermodynamic behavior in the extended phase space and examine the validity of the first law of thermodynamics besides local thermal stability by the Hessian matrix. We observe that although the topology of boundary is planar, there exists the van der Waals like phase transition for this kind of solution. We find the critical quantities and discuss how the massive and Yang-Mills parameters affect them. Furthermore, some signatures of the first order phase transition such as the swallow-tail behavior of the Gibbs free energy and divergences of the specific heat are given in detail. We continue with the calculation of the photon sphere and the shadow observed by a distant observer. Finally, we use the WKB method to investigate the quasinormal modes for scalar perturbation under changing the massive and Yang-Mills parameters.

Three dimensional Lifshitz-like black hole in a special class of F(R) gravity

Regarding a special class of pure F(R) gravity in three dimensions, we obtain, analytically, Lifshitz-like black hole solutions. We check the geometrical properties of the solutions which behave such as charged BTZ black holes in special limit. We also investigate the thermodynamic properties of the solutions and examine the first law of thermodynamics and Smarr formula. In addition, we study thermal stability via the heat capacity and discuss the possibility of criticality in the extended phase space.

Charged Black Hole Solutions in Gauss-Bonnet-Massive Gravity

Motivated by high interest in the close relation between string theory and black hole solutions, in this paper, we take into account the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Lagrangian in the context of massive gravity. We examine the possibility of black hole in this regard, and discuss the types of horizons. Next, we calculate conserved and thermodynamic quantities and check the validity of the first law of thermodynamics. In addition, we investigate the stability of these black holes in context of canonical ensemble. We show that number, type and place of phase transition points may be significantly affected by different parameters. Next, by considering cosmological constant as thermodynamical pressure, we will extend phase space and calculate critical values. Then, we construct thermodynamical spacetime by considering mass as thermodynamical potential. We study geometrical thermodynamics of these black holes in context of heat capacity and extended phase space. We show that studying heat capacity, geometrical thermodynamics and critical behavior in extended phase space lead to consistent results. Finally, we will employ a new method for obtaining critical values and show that the results of this method are consistent with those of other methods.

Charged Dilatonic Black Holes in Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we present charged dilatonic black holes in gravity's rainbow. We study geometric and thermodynamic properties of black hole solutions. We also investigate the effects of rainbow functions on different thermodynamic quantities for these charged black holes in dilatonic gravity's rainbow. Then, we demonstrate that first law of thermodynamics is valid for these solutions. After that, we investigate thermal stability of the solutions using canonical ensemble and analyze the effects of different rainbow functions on thermal stability. In addition, we present some arguments regarding the bound and phase transition points in context of geometrical thermodynamics. We also study the phase transition in extended phase space in which cosmological constant is treated as the thermodynamic pressure. Finally, we use another approach to calculate and demonstrate that obtained critical points in extended phase space are representing a second order phase transition for these black holes.

Extended phase space of AdS Black Holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a quadratic nonlinear electrodynamics

In this paper, we consider quadratic Maxwell invariant as a correction to the Maxwell theory and study thermodynamic behavior of the black holes in Einstein and Gauss-Bonnet gravities. We consider cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure to extend phase space. Next, we obtain critical values in case of variation of nonlinearity and Gauss-Bonnet parameters. Although the general thermodynamical behavior of the black hole solutions is the same as usual Van der Waals system, we show that in special case of the nonlinear electromagnetic field, there will be a turning point for the phase diagrams and usual Van der Waals is not observed. This theory of nonlinear electromagnetic field provides two critical horizon radii. We show that this unusual behavior of phase diagrams is due to existence of second critical horizon radius. It will be pointed out that the power of the gravity and nonlinearity of the matter field modify the critical values. We generalize the study by considering the effects of dimensionality on critical values and make comparisons between our models with their special sub classes. In addition, we examine the possibility of the existence of the reentrant phase transitions through two different methods.

Extended phase space thermodynamics and $P-V$ criticality: Brans-Dicke-Born-Infeld vs Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton black holes

Motivated by thermodynamic analogy of black holes and Van der Waals liquid/gas system, in this paper, we study $P-V$ criticality of both dilatonic Born-Infeld black holes and their conformal solutions, Brans-Dicke-Born-Infeld solutions. Due to the conformal constraint, we have to neglect the old Lagrangian of dilatonic Born-Infeld theory and its black hole solutions, and introduce a new one. We obtain spherically symmetric nonlinearly charged black hole solutions in both Einstein and Jordan frames and then, we calculate the related conserved and thermodynamic quantities. After that, we extend the phase space by considering the proportionality of the cosmological constant and thermodynamical pressure. We obtain critical values of thermodynamic coordinates through numerical methods and plot relevant $P-V$ and $G-T$ diagrams. Investigation of the mentioned diagrams helps us to study thermodynamical phase transition. We also analyze the effects of varying different parameters on the phase transition of black holes.

F(R) gravity's rainbow and its Einstein counterpart

Motivated by UV completion of general relativity with a modification of a geometry at high energy scale, it is expected to have an energy dependent geometry. In this paper, we introduce charged black hole solutions with power Maxwell invariant source in the context of gravity's rainbow. In addition, we investigate two classes of $F(R)$ gravity's rainbow solutions. At first, we study energy dependent $F(R)$ gravity without energy momentum tensor, and then we obtain $F(R)$ gravity's rainbow in the presence of conformally invariant Maxwell source. We study geometrical properties of the mentioned solutions and compare their results. We also give some related comments regarding to thermodynamical behavior of the obtained solutions and discuss thermal stability of the solutions.

Massive charged BTZ black holes in asymptotically (a)dS spacetimes

Motivated by recent developments of BTZ black holes and interesting results of massive gravity, we investigate massive BTZ black holes in the presence of Maxwell and Born-Infeld (BI) electrodynamics. We study geometrical properties such as type of singularity and asymptotical behavior as well as thermodynamic structure of the solutions through canonical ensemble. We show that despite the existence of massive term, obtained solutions are asymptotically (a)dS and have a curvature singularity at the origin. Then, we regard varying cosmological constant and examine the Van der Waals like behavior of the solutions in extended phase space. In addition, we employ geometrical thermodynamic approaches and show that using Weinhold, Ruppeiner and Quevedo metrics leads to existence of ensemble dependency while HPEM metric yields consistent picture. For neutral solutions, it will be shown that generalization to massive gravity leads to the presence of non-zero temperature and heat capacity for vanishing horizon radius. Such behavior is not observed for linearly charged solutions while generalization to nonlinearly one recovers this property.

Modified TOV in gravity's rainbow: properties of neutron stars and dynamical stability conditions

In this paper, we consider a spherical symmetric metric to extract the hydrostatic equilibrium equation of stars in $(3+1)-$dimensional gravity's rainbow in the presence of cosmological constant. Then, we generalize the hydrostatic equilibrium equation to $d$-dimensions and obtain the hydrostatic equilibrium equation for this gravity. Also, we obtain the maximum mass of neutron star using the modern equations of state of neutron star matter derived from the microscopic calculations. It is notable that, in this paper, we consider the effects of rainbow functions on the diagrams related to the mass-central mass density ($M$-$ρ_{c}$) relation and also the mass-radius ($M$-$R$) relation of neutron star. We also study the effects of rainbow functions on the other properties of neutron star such as the Schwarzschild radius, average density, strength of gravity and gravitational redshift. Then, we apply the cosmological constant to this theory to obtain the diagrams of $M$-$ρ_{c}$ (or $M$-$R$) and other properties of these stars. Next, we investigate the dynamical stability condition for these stars in gravity's rainbow and show that these stars have dynamical stability. We also obtain a relation between mass of neutron stars and Planck mass. In addition, we compare obtained results of this theory with the observational data.

Nonlinearly charged dilatonic black holes and their Brans-Dicke counterpart: Energy dependent spacetime

Regarding the wide applications of dilaton gravity in the presence of electrodynamics, we introduce a suitable Lagrangian for the coupling of dilaton with gauge field. There are various Lagrangians which show the coupling between scalar fields and electrodynamics with correct special situations. In this paper, taking into account conformal transformation of Brans-Dicke theory with an electrodynamics Lagrangian, we show that how scalar field should couple with electrodynamics in dilaton gravity. In other words, in order to introduce a correct Lagrangian of dilaton gravity, one should check at least two requirements: compatibility with Brans-Dicke theory and appropriate special situations. Finally, we apply the mentioned method to obtain analytical solutions of dilaton-Born-Infeld and Brans-Dicke-Born-Infeld theories with energy dependent spacetime.

Phase transition of charged Black Holes in Brans-Dicke theory through geometrical thermodynamics

In this paper, we take into account black hole solutions of Brans-Dicke-Maxwell theory and investigate their stability and phase transition points. We apply the concept of geometry in thermodynamics to obtain phase transition points and compare its results with those, calculated in canonical ensemble through heat capacity. We show that these black holes enjoy second order phase transitions. We also show that there is a lower bound for the horizon radius of physical charged black holes in Brans-Dicke theory which is originated from restrictions of positivity of temperature. In addition, we find that employing specific thermodynamical metric in the context of geometrical thermodynamics, yields divergencies for thermodynamical Ricci scalar in places of the phase transitions. It will be pointed out that due to characteristics behavior of thermodynamical Ricci scalar around its divergence points, one is able to distinguish the physical limitation point from the phase transitions. In addition, the free energy of these black holes will be obtained and its behavior will be investigated. It will be shown that the behavior of the free energy in the place where the heat capacity diverges, demonstrates second order phase transition characteristics.

$P-V$ criticality and geometrothermodynamics of black holes with Born-Infeld type nonlinear electrodynamics

In this paper, we take into account the black hole solutions of Einstein gravity with logarithmic and exponential forms of nonlinear electrodynamics. We consider $Λ$ as a dynamical pressure to study the analogy of the black holes with the Van der Waals system. We plot P-v, T-v and G-T diagrams and investigate the phase transition of adS black holes in the canonical ensemble. We study the nonlinearity effects of electrodynamics and see how the power of nonlinearity affects critical behavior. We also investigate the effects of dimensionality on the critical values and analyze its crucial role. Moreover, we show the changes in the universal ratio P_{c}v_{c}/T_{c} for variation of different parameters. In addition, we make a comparison between linear and nonlinear electrodynamics and show that the lowest critical temperature belongs to Maxwell theory. Also, we make some arguments regarding to how power of nonlinearity brings the system to Schwarzschild-like and Reissner-Nordstrom-like limitations. Next, we study the critical behavior in context of heat capacity. We show that critical behavior of system is similar to one in phase diagrams of extended phase space. We point out that phase transition points of the extended phase space only appear as divergencies of heat capacity. We also extend the study of phase transitions through GTD method. We introduce two new metrics and show that divergencies of TRS of the new metrics coincide with phase transitions. The characteristic behavior of these divergencies, hence critical points is exactly the one that is obtained in extended phase space and heat capacity. We also introduce a new method for obtaining critical pressure and horizon radius by considering denominator of the heat capacity. We show that there are several benefits that make this approach favorable comparing to other ones.

A new approach toward geometrical concept of black hole thermodynamics

Motivated by the energy representation of Riemannian metric, in this paper we study different approaches toward the geometrical concept of black hole thermodynamics. We investigate thermodynamical Ricci scalar of Weinhold, Ruppeiner and Quevedo metrics and show that their number and location of divergences do not coincide with phase transition points arisen from heat capacity. Next, we introduce a new metric to solve these problems. We show that the denominator of the Ricci scalar of the new metric contains terms which coincide with different types of phase transitions. We elaborate the effectiveness of the new metric and shortcomings of the previous metrics with some examples. Furthermore, we find a characteristic behavior of the new thermodynamical Ricci scalar which enables one to distinguish two types of phase transitions. In addition, we generalize the new metric for the cases of more than two extensive parameters and show that in these cases the divergencies of thermodynamical Ricci scalar coincide with phase transition points of the heat capacity.

Dilatonic Equation of Hydrostatic Equilibrium and Neutron Star Structure

In this paper, we present a new hydrostatic equilibrium equation related to dilaton gravity. We consider a spherical symmetric metric to obtain the hydrostatic equilibrium equation of stars in $4$-dimensions, and generalize TOV equation to the case of regarding a dilaton field. Then, we calculate the structure properties of neutron star using our obtained hydrostatic equilibrium equation employing the modern equations of state of neutron star matter derived from microscopic calculations. We show that the maximum mass of neutron star depends on the parameters of dilaton field and cosmological constant. In other words, by setting the parameters of new hydrostatic equilibrium equation, we calculate the maximum mass of neutron star.

Extended phase space thermodynamics and $P-V$ criticality of charged black holes in Brans-Dicke theory

In this paper, taking in to account Brans-Dick theory, we investigate thermodynamic behavior of charged black hole solutions. We study the analogy of the black hole solution with the Van der Waals liquid-gas system in the extended phase space by considering the cosmological constant as dynamical pressure. We obtain critical values of thermodynamic coordinates and plot $P-r_{+}$ and $G-T$ diagrams to study the phase transition.

Phase transition and thermodynamic geometry of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton black holes

In this paper, we consider a linearly charged dilatonic black holes and study their thermodynamical behavior in the context of phase transition and thermodynamic geometry. We show that, depending on the values of the parameters, these type of black holes may enjoy two types of phase transition. We also find that there are three critical behaviors near the critical points for these black holes; nonphysical unstable to physical stable, large to small, and small to large black holes phase transition. Next, we employ a thermodynamical metric for studying thermodynamical geometry of these black holes. We show that the characteristic behavioral of Ricci scalar of this metric enables one to recognize the type of phase transition and critical behavior of the black holes near phase transition points. Finally, we will extend thermodynamical space by considering dilaton parameter as extensive parameter. We will show that by this consideration, Weinhold, Ruppeiner and Quevedo metrics provide extra divergencies which are not related to any phase transition point whereas our new method is providing an effective machinery.

Thermodynamic instability of topological black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a generalized electrodynamics

Motivated by the string corrections on the gravity and electrodynamics sides, we consider a quadratic Maxwell invariant term as a correction of the Maxwell Lagrangian to obtain exact solutions of higher dimensional topological black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We first investigate the asymptotically flat solutions and obtain conserved and thermodynamic quantities which satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. We also analyze thermodynamic stability of the solutions by calculating the heat capacity and the Hessian matrix. Then, we focus on horizon-flat solutions with adS asymptote and produce a rotating spacetime with a suitable transformation. In addition, we calculate the conserved and thermodynamic quantities for asymptotically adS black branes which satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we perform thermodynamic instability criterion to investigate the effects of nonlinear electrodynamics in canonical and grand canonical ensembles.

Thermodynamic instability of topological black holes with nonlinear source

In this paper, we obtain higher dimensional topological black hole solutions of Einstein-$Λ$ gravity in the presence of a class of nonlinear electrodynamics. First, we calculate the conserved and thermodynamic quantities of ($n+1$)-dimensional asymptotically flat solutions and show that they satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Also, we investigate the stability of these solutions in the (grand) canonical ensemble. Second, we endow a global rotation to the static Ricci-flat solutions and calculate the conserved quantities of solutions by using the counterterm method. We obtain a Smarr-type formula for the mass as a function of the entropy, the angular momenta and the electric charge, and show that these quantities satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Then, we perform a stability analysis of the rotating solutions both in the canonical and the grand canonical ensembles.

Thermodynamic stability of charged BTZ black holes: Ensemble dependency problem and its solution

Motivated by the wide applications of thermal stability and phase transition, we investigate thermodynamic properties of charged BTZ black holes. We apply the standard method to calculate the heat capacity and the Hessian matrix and find that thermal stability of charged BTZ solutions depends on the choice of ensemble. To overcome this problem, we take into account cosmological constant as a thermodynamical variable. By this modification, we show that the ensemble dependency is eliminated and thermal stability conditions are the same in both ensembles. Then, we generalize our solutions to the case of nonlinear electrodynamics. We show how nonlinear matter field modifies the geometrical behavior of the metric function. We also study phase transition and thermal stability of these black holes in context of both canonical and grand canonical ensembles. We show that by considering the cosmological constant as a thermodynamical variable and modifying the Hessian matrix, the ensemble dependency of thermal stability will be eliminated.

In this paper, we present a class of horizon flat rotating black branes and investigate their geometrical properties and the effect of nonlinearity on the solutions. We use some known formulas and methods to calculate thermodynamic and conserved quantities. Finally, we check the satisfaction of the first law of thermodynamics.

Three dimensional nonlinear magnetic AdS solutions through topological defects

Inspired by large applications of topological defects in describing different phenomena in physics, and considering the importance of three dimensional solutions in AdS/CFT correspondence, in this paper we obtain magnetic anti-de Sitter solutions of nonlinear electromagnetic fields. We take into account three classes of nonlinear electrodynamic models; first two classes are the well-known BornInfeld like models including logarithmic and exponential forms and third class is known as the power Maxwell invariant nonlinear electrodynamics. We investigate the effects of these nonlinear sources on three dimensional magnetic solutions. We show that these asymptotical AdS solutions do not have any curvature singularity and horizon. We also generalize the static metric to the case of rotating solutions and find that the value of the electric charge depends on the rotation parameter. Finally, we consider the quadratic Maxwell invariant as a correction of Maxwell theory and in other words, we investigate the effects of nonlinearity as a correction. We study the behavior of the deficit angle in presence of these theories of nonlinearity and compare them with each other. We also show that some cases with negative deficit angle exists which are representing objects with different geometrical structure. We also show that in case of the static only magnetic field exists whereas by boosting the metric to rotating one, electric field appear too.

Asymptotic charged BTZ black hole solutions

The well-known $(2+1)$-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom (BTZ) black hole can be generalized to three dimensional Einstein-nonlinear electromagnetic field, motivated from obtaining a finite value for the self-energy of a pointlike charge. Considering three types of nonlinear electromagnetic fields coupled with Einstein gravity, we derive three kinds of black hole solutions which their asymptotic properties are the same as charged BTZ solution. In addition, we calculate conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the solutions and show that they satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble and show that the black holes are stable in the whole phase space.

Exact solutions of three dimensional black holes: Einstein gravity vs F(R) gravity

In this paper, we consider Einstein gravity in the presence of a class of nonlinear electrodynamics, called power Maxwell invariant (PMI). We take into account $(2+1)$-dimensional spacetime in Einstein-PMI gravity and obtain its black hole solutions. Then, we regard pure $F(R)$ gravity as well as $F(R)$-conformally invariant Maxwell theory to obtain exact solutions of the field equations with black hole interpretation. Finally, we investigate the conserved and thermodynamic quantities and discuss about the first law of thermodynamics for the mentioned gravitational models.

Initiating the effective unification of black hole horizon area and entropy quantization with quasi-normal modes

Black hole (BH) quantization may be the key to unlocking a unifying theory of quantum gravity (QG). Surmounting evidence in the field of BH research continues to support a horizon (surface) area with a discrete and uniformly spaced spectrum, but there is still no general agreement on the level spacing. In this specialized and important BH case study, our objective is to report and examine the pertinent groundbreaking work of the strictly thermal and non-strictly thermal spectrum level spacing of the BH horizon area quantization with included entropy calculations, which aims to tackle this gigantic problem. In particular, this work exemplifies a series of imperative corrections that eventually permits a BH's horizon area spectrum to be generalized from strictly thermal to non-strictly thermal with entropy results, thereby capturing multiple preceding developments by launching an effective unification between them. Moreover, the identified results are significant because quasi-normal modes (QNM) and "effective states" characterize the transitions between the established levels of the non-strictly thermal spectrum.

Thermodynamic analysis of topological black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity with nonlinear source

Employing two classes of nonlinear electrodynamics, we obtain topological black hole solutions of Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We investigate geometric properties of the solutions and find that there is an intrinsic singularity at the origin. We investigate the thermodynamic properties of the asymptotically flat black holes and also asymptotically adS solutions. Using suitable local transformation, we generalize static horizon-flat solutions to rotating ones. We discuss their conserved and thermodynamic quantities as well as the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we calculate the heat capacity of the solutions to obtain a constraint on the horizon radius of stable solutions.

Generalizing of the Maxwell field to nonlinear electrodynamics theories, we look for the magnetic solutions. In initial approximation these models give the usual linear electrodynamics. Asymptotically Lifshitz black hole solutions in F(R) gravity

We consider a class of spherically symmetric spacetime to obtain some interesting solutions in F(R) gravity without matter field (pure gravity). We investigate the geometry of the solutions and find that there is an essential singularity at the origin. In addition, we show that there is an analogy between obtained solutions with the black holes of Einstein-Lambda -power-Maxwell-invariant theory. Furthermore, we find that these solutions are equivalent to the asymptotically Lifshitz black holes. Also, we calculate d^2F/dR^2 to examine the Dolgov-Kawasaki stability criterion.

Effective state, Hawking radiation and quasi-normal modes for Kerr black holes

The non-strictly continuous character of the Hawking radiation spectrum generates a natural correspondence between Hawking radiation and black hole (BH) quasi-normal modes (QNM). In this work, we generalize recent results on this important issue to the framework of Kerr BHs (KBH). We show that also for the KBH, QNMs can be naturally interpreted in terms of quantum levels. Thus, the emission or absorption of a particle is in turn interpreted in terms of a transition between two different levels. At the end of the paper, we also generalize some concepts concerning the "effective state" of a KBH.

Extended phase space thermodynamics and P-V criticality of black holes with nonlinear source

In this paper, we consider the solutions of Einstein gravity in the presence of a generalized Maxwell theory, namely power Maxwell invariant. First, we investigate the analogy of nonlinear charged black hole solutions with the Van der Waals liquid--gas system in the extended phase space where the cosmological constant appear as pressure. Then, we plot isotherm $P$--$V$ diagram and study the thermodynamics of AdS black hole in the (grand canonical) canonical ensemble in which (potential) charge is fixed at infinity. Interestingly, we find the phase transition occurs in the both of canonical and grand canonical ensembles in contrast to RN black hole in Maxwell theory which only admits canonical ensemble phase transition. Moreover, we calculate the critical exponents and find their values are the same as those in mean field theory. Besides, considerably, we find in the grand canonical ensembles universal ratio $\frac{P_{c}v_{c}}{T_{c}}$ is independent of spacetime dimensions.

Higher dimensional charged BTZ-like wormhole

It is known that traversable wormhole can exist in General Relativity only if its throat contains some exotic matter. In this paper, we obtain $(2+1)$-dimensional (horizonless) charged magnetic brane without (curvature) singularity. Then, we consider a nontrivial local transformation to grant a global rotation to spacetime. After that, we generalize magnetic brane to higher dimensional solutions and use the cut-and-paste method to construct higher dimensional charged BTZ-like rotating wormholes such a way that they reduce to charged magnetic BTZ solution in three dimensions, exactly. We also show that charged BTZ-like wormhole supported by the exotic matter at its throat $r=r_{+}$. Finally, we calculate the conserved quantities of the charged BTZ-like wormhole such as mass, angular momentum and electric charge density, and show that the electric charge depends on the rotation parameters, interestingly, and the static wormhole does not have a net electric charge density.

Eguchi-Hanson like space-times in F(R) gravity

We consider a model of $F(R)$ gravity in which exponential and power corrections to Einstein-$Λ$ gravity are included. We show that this model has 4-dimensional Eguchi-Hanson type instanton solutions in Euclidean space. We then seek solutions to the five dimensional equations for which space-time contains a hypersurface corresponding to the Eguchi-Hanson space. We obtain analytic solutions of the $F(R)$ gravitational field equations, and by assuming certain relationships between the model parameters and integration constants, find several classes of exact solutions. Finally, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the solutions and compute the second derivative of the $F(R)$ function with respect to the Ricci scalar to confirm Dolgov-Kawasaki stability.

Black hole solutions in F(R) gravity with conformal anomaly

In this paper, we consider $F(R)=R+f(R)$ theory instead of Einstein gravity with conformal anomaly and look for its analytical solutions. Depending on the free parameters, one may obtain both uncharged and charged solutions for some classes of $F(R)$ models. Calculation of Kretschmann scalar shows that there is a singularity located at $r=0$, which the geometry of uncharged (charged) solution is corresponding to the Schwarzschild (Reissner-Nordström) singularity. Further, we discuss the viability of our models in details. We show that these models can be stable depending on their parameters and in different epoches of the universe.

Entropic Corrections to Coulomb's Law

Two well-known quantum corrections to the area law have been introduced in the literatures, namely, logarithmic and power-law corrections. Logarithmic corrections, arises from loop quantum gravity due to thermal equilibrium fluctuations and quantum fluctuations, while, power-law correction appears in dealing with the entanglement of quantum fields in and out the horizon. Inspired by Verlinde's argument on the entropic force, and assuming the quantum corrected relation for the entropy, we propose the entropic origin for the Coulomb's law in this note. Also we investigate the Uehling potential as a radiative correction to Coulomb potential in 1-loop order and show that for some value of distance the entropic corrections of the Coulomb's law is compatible with the vacuum-polarization correction in QED. So, we derive modified Coulomb's law as well as the entropy corrected Poisson's equation which governing the evolution of the scalar potential $ϕ$. Our study further supports the unification of gravity and electromagnetic interactions based on the holographic principle.

Some exact solutions of F(R) gravity with charged (a)dS black hole interpretation

In this paper we obtain topological static solutions of some kind of pure $F(R)$ gravity. The present solutions are two kind: first type is uncharged solution which corresponds with the topological (a)dS Schwarzschild solution and second type has electric charge and is equivalent to the Einstein-$Λ$-conformally invariant Maxwell solution. In other word, starting from pure gravity leads to (charged) Einstein-$Λ$ solutions which we interpreted them as (charged) (a)dS black hole solutions of pure $F(R)$ gravity. Calculating the Ricci and Kreschmann scalars show that there is a curvature singularity at $r=0$. We should note that the Kreschmann scalar of charged solutions goes to infinity as $r \rightarrow 0$, but with a rate slower than that of uncharged solutions.

The effects of nonlinear Maxwell source on the magnetic solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Considering both the power Maxwell invariant source and the Einstein--Gauss--Bonnet gravity, we present a new class of static solutions yields a spacetime with a longitudinal nonlinear magnetic field. These horizonless solutions have no curvature singularity, but have a conic geometry with a deficit angle $δϕ$. In order to have vanishing electromagnetic field at spatial infinity, we restrict the nonlinearity parameter to $s>1/2$. Investigation of the energy conditions show that these solutions satisfy the null, weak and strong energy conditions simultaneously, for $s>1/2$, and the dominant energy condition is satisfied when $s \in ({1/2,1}]$. In addition, we look for about the effect of nonlinearity parameter on the energy density and also deficit angle, and find that these quantities are sensitive with respect to variation of nonlinearity parameter. We find that for special values of nonlinearity parameter, two important subclass of solutions, so-called conformally invariant Maxwell and BTZ-like solutions, with interesting properties, emerge. Then, we generalize the static solutions to the case of spinning magnetic solutions and find that, when one or more rotation parameters are nonzero, the brane has a net electric charge which is proportional to the magnitude of the rotation parameters. We also use the counterterm method to compute the conserved quantities of these spacetimes such as mass, angular momentum, and find that these conserved quantities do not depend on the nonlinearity parameter.

Charged BTZ-like Black Holes in Higher Dimensions

Motivated by many worthwhile paper about (2 + 1)-dimensional BTZ black holes, we generalize them to to (n + 1)-dimensional solutions, so called BTZ-like solutions. We show that the electric field of BTZ-like solutions is the same as (2 + 1)-dimensional BTZ black holes, and also their lapse functions are approximately the same, too. By these similarities, it is also interesting to investigate the geometric and thermodynamics properties of the BTZ-like solutions. We find that, depending on the metric parameters, the BTZ-like solutions may be interpreted as black hole solutions with inner (Cauchy) and outer (event) horizons, an extreme black hole or naked singularity. Then, we calculate thermodynamics quantities and conserved quantities, and show that they satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble and show that the BTZ-like solutions are stable in the whole phase space.

Charged rotating dilaton black branes in AdS universe

We present the metric for the $(n+1)$-dimensional charged rotating dilaton black branes with cylindrical or toroidal horizons in the background of anti-de Sitter spacetime. We find the suitable counterterm which removes the divergences of the action in the presence of the dilaton potential in all higher dimensions. We plot the Penrose diagrams of the spacetime and reveal that the spacetime geometry crucially modifies in the presence of the dilaton field. The conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the black branes are also computed.

Magnetic String Coupled to Nonlinear Electromagnetic Field

We introduce a class of rotating magnetically charged string solutions of the Einstein gravity with a nonlinear electrodynamics source in four dimensions. The present solutions has no curvature singularity and no horizons but has a conic singularity and yields a spacetime with a longitudinal magnetic field. Also, we investigate the effects of nonlinearity on the properties of the solutions and find that for the special range of the nonlinear parameter, the solutions are not asymptotic AdS. We show that when the rotation parameter is non zero, the spinning string has a net electric charge that is proportional to the magnitude of the rotation parameter. Finally, we use the counterterm method inspired by AdS/CFT correspondence and calculate the conserved quantities of the solutions.

Ricci flat rotating black branes with a conformally invariant Maxwell source

We consider Einstein gravity coupled to an $U(1)$ gauge field for which the density is given by a power of the Maxwell Lagrangian. In $d$-dimensions the action of Maxwell field is shown to enjoy the conformal invariance if the power is chosen as $d/4$. We present a class of charge rotating solutions in Einstein-conformally invariant Maxwell gravity in the presence of a cosmological constant. These solutions may be interpreted as black brane solutions with inner and outer event horizons or an extreme black brane depending on the value of the mass parameter. Since we are considering power of the Maxwell density, the black brane solutions exist only for dimensions which are multiples of four. We compute conserved and thermodynamics quantities of the black brane solutions and show that the expression of the electric field does not depend on the dimension. Also, we obtain a Smarr-type formula and show that these conserved and thermodynamic quantities of black branes satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we study the phase behavior of the rotating black branes and show that there is no Hawking--Page phase transition in spite of conformally invariant Maxwell field.

Rotating Black String with Nonlinear Source

In this paper, we derive rotating black string solutions in the presence of two kinds of nonlinear electromagnetic fields, so called Born-Infeld and power Maxwell invariant. Investigation of the solutions show that for the Born-Infeld black string the singularity is timelike and the asymptotic behavior of the solutions are anti-deSitter, but for power Maxwell invariant solutions, depend on the values of nonlinearity parameter, the singularity may be timelike as well as spacelike and the solutions are not asymptotically anti-deSitter for all values of the nonlinearity parameter. Next, we calculate the conserved quantities of the solutions by using the counterterm method, and find that these quantities do not depend on the nonlinearity parameter. We also compute the entropy, temperature, the angular velocity, the electric charge and the electric potential of the solutions, in which the conserved and thermodynamics quantities satisfy the first law of thermodynamics.

Slowly Rotating Black Holes in Einstein-Generalized Maxwell Gravity

In this paper, with considering the nonlinear electromagnetic field coupled to Einstein gravity, we obtain the higher dimensional slowly rotating charged black hole solutions. By use of the fact that the temperature of the extreme black hole is zero, we find that these solutions may be interpreted as black hole solutions with inner (Cauchy) and outer (event) horizons provide that the mass parameter $m$ is greater than an extremal value $m_{ext}$, an extreme black hole if $m=m_{ext}$ and a naked singularity otherwise. Also, we find that the asymptotic behavior of the spacetime is not anti deSitter for the special values of the nonlinearity parameter. Then, we compute the ADM mass, electrical charge, temperature, entropy, angular momentum and gyromagnetic ratio of the solutions. Calculations of the electromagnetic field, electrical charge, entropy and temperature showed that they are sensitive with respect to the changing of nonlinearity parameter.

Thermodynamic instability of charged dilaton black holes in AdS spaces

We study thermodynamic instability of a class of $(n+1)$-dimensional charged dilaton black holes in the background of anti-de Sitter universe. We calculate the quasilocal mass of the AdS dilaton black hole through the use of the subtraction method of Brown and York. We find a Smarr-type formula and perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble and disclose the effect of the dilaton field on the thermal stability of the solutions. Our study shows that the solutions are thermally stable for small $α$, while for large $α$ the system has an unstable phase, where $α$ is a coupling constant between the dilaton and matter field.

Thermodynamics of higher dimensional topological charged AdS black branes in dilaton gravity

In this paper, we study topological AdS black branes of $(n+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory and investigate their properties. We use the area law, surface gravity and Gauss law interpretations to find entropy, temperature and electrical charge, respectively. We also employ the modified Brown and York subtraction method to calculate the quasilocal mass of the solutions. We obtain a Smarr-type formula for the mass as a function of the entropy and the charge, compute the temperature and the electric potential through the Smarr-type formula and show that these thermodynamic quantities coincide with their values which are calculated through using the geometry. Finally, we perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble and investigate the effects of the dilaton field and the size of black brane on the thermal stability of the solutions. We find that large black branes are stable but for small black brane, depending on the value of dilaton field and type of horizon, we encounter with some unstable phases.

Topological Black Holes in Gauss-Bonnet Gravity with conformally invariant Maxwell source

In this paper, we present a class of rotating solutions in Gauss--Bonnet gravity in the presence of cosmological constant and conformally invariant Maxwell field and study the effects of the nonlinearity of the Maxwell source on the properties of the spacetimes. These solutions may be interpret as black brane solutions with inner and outer event horizons provide that the mass parameter $m$ is greater than an extremal value $m_{ext}$, an extreme black brane if $m=m_{ext}$ and a naked singularity otherwise. We investigate the conserved and thermodynamics quantities for asymptotically flat and asymptotically $AdS$ with flat horizon. We also show that the conserved and thermodynamic quantities of these solutions satisfy the first law of thermodynamics.

The relation between F(R) gravity and Einstein-conformally invariant Maxwell source

In this paper, we consider the special case of $F(R)$ gravity, in which $F(R)= R^{N}$ and obtain its topological black hole solutions in higher dimensions. We show that, the same as higher dimensional charged black hole, these solutions may be interpreted as black hole solutions with two event horizons, extreme black hole and naked singularity provided the parameters of the solutions are chosen suitably. But, the presented black hole is different from the standard higher-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom solutions. Next, we focus on the conformally invariant Maxwell field coupled to Einstein gravity and discuss about its black hole solutions. Comparing these two class of solutions, shows that there is a correspondence between the Einstein-conformally invariant Maxwell solutions and the solutions of $F(R)$ gravity without matter field in arbitrary dimensions.

Thermodynamics of rotating black branes in $(n+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton gravity

In this paper, we construct a new class of charged, rotating solutions of $% (n+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton gravity with Liouville-type potentials and investigate their properties. These solutions are neither asymptotically flat nor (anti)-de Sitter. We find that these solutions can represent black brane, with inner and outer event horizons, an extreme black brane or a naked singularity provided the parameters of the solutions are chosen suitably. We also compute temperature, entropy, charge, electric potential, mass and angular momentum of the black brane solutions, and show that these quantities satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. We find that the conserved quantities are independent of the Born-Infeld parameter $β$, while they depend on the dilaton coupling constant $α$. We also find the total mass of the black brane with infinite boundary as a function of the entropy, the angular momenta and the charge and perform a stability analysis by computing the heat capacity in the canonical ensemble. We find that the system is thermally stable for $α\leq 1$ independent of the values of the charge and Born-Infeld parameters, while for $α> 1$ the system has an unstable phase. In the latter case, the solutions are stable provided $α\leq α_{\max}$ and $β\geq β_{\min}$, where $% α_{\max}$ and $β_{\min}$ depend on the charge and the dimensionality of the spacetime. That is the solutions are unstable for highly nonlinear electromagnetic field or when the dilaton coupling constant is large.
