Non-extensive statistics effects in transverse momentum spectra of hadrons

The Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics of the identified hadrons were verified on the basis of the transverse momentum distributions of bosons and fermions created in the $pp$ collisions at high energies using the Tsallis-factorized statistics and the two-component distributions of the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. The main differences between the parameters of the Tsallis-factorized statistics and the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics were identified. The results of the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics are reasonable and suggest that the soft and hard hadrons may be produced from the two different macroscopic states of the dynamical system. It was revealed that the volume of the system obtained in the Tsallis-factorized statistics is unusually large in comparison with the geometrical volume of two protons. The main formulas for the Tsallis statistics in the grand canonical ensemble were formulated.

Systematic properties of the Tsallis Distribution: Energy Dependence of Parameters in High-Energy p-p Collisions

Changes in the transverse momentum distributions with beam energy are studied using the Tsallis distribution as a parameterization. The dependence of the Tsallis parameters q, T and the volume are determined as a function of beam energy. The Tsallis parameter q shows a weak but clear increase with beam energy with the highest value being approximately 1.15. The Tsallis temperature and volume are consistent with being independent of beam energy within experimental uncertainties.

Caloric curve for nuclear liquid-gas phase transition in relativistic mean-field hadronic model

The main thermodynamical properties of the first order phase transition of the relativistic mean-field (RMF) hadronic model were explored in the isobaric, the canonical and the grand canonical ensembles on the basis of the method of the thermodynamical potentials and their first derivatives. It was proved that the first order phase transition of the RMF model is the liquid-gas type one associated with the Gibbs free energy $G$. The thermodynamical potential $G$ is the piecewise smooth function and its first order partial derivatives with respect to variables of state are the piecewise continuous functions. We have found that the energy in the caloric curve is discontinuous in the isobaric and the grand canonical ensembles at fixed values of the pressure and the chemical potential, respectively, and it is continuous, i.e. it has no plateau, in the canonical and microcanonical ensembles at fixed values of baryon density, while the baryon density in the isotherms is discontinuous in the isobaric and the canonical ensembles at fixed values of the temperature. The general criterion for the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition in the canonical ensemble was identified.

Critique of multinomial coefficients method for evaluating Tsallis and Renyi entropies

Oikonomou [Physica A 386 (2007) 119] has published a calculation which purports to show that the Tsallis and Renyi entropies can be obtained from the generalized multinomial coefficients. In this paper, we prove that the method of generalized multinomial coefficients failed to determine the Tsallis entropy at equilibrium. Moreover, it is shown that Oikonomou's analysis contains mistakes which led him to misleading statements related to the Jaynes principle of maximum entropy, the Tsallis and the Renyi statistics.

Fractional exclusion statistics applied to relativistic nuclear matter

The effect of statistics of the quasiparticles in the nuclear matter at extreme conditions of density and temperature is evaluated in the relativistic mean-field model generalized to the framework of the fractional exclusion statistics (FES). In the model, the nucleons are described as quasiparticles obeying FES and the model parameters were chosen to reproduce the ground state properties of the isospin-symmetric nuclear matter. In this case, the statistics of the quasiparticles is related to the strengths of the nucleon-nucleon interaction mediated by the neutral scalar and vector meson fields. The relevant thermodynamic quantities were calculated as functions of the nucleons density, temperature and fractional exclusion statistics parameter $α$. It has been shown that at high temperatures and densities the thermodynamics of the system has a strong dependence on the statistics of the particles. The scenario in which the nucleon-nucleon interaction strength is independent of the statistics of particles was also calculated, but it leads in general to unstable thermodynamics.

Nuclear first order phase transition associated with Helmholtz free energy of canonical ensemble

It was shown that in the canonical ensemble the simple exactly soluble statistical model of nuclei decay into nucleons, which is a limiting case of the statistical multifragmentation model, predicts the nuclear first order phase transition associated with the Helmholtz free energy different from the first order phase transition of the liquid-gas type associated with the Gibbs free energy. The main thermodynamic properties of this phase transition were explored on the basis of the method of the thermodynamic potential and its first and second derivatives in the thermodynamic limit. It was established that the thermodynamic potential $F$ is a piecewise smooth function and its first order partial derivatives with respect to variables of state are piecewise continuous functions. At the points of phase transition, the energy in the caloric curve is discontinuous at the constant temperature and fixed values of the specific volume, while the pressure and the chemical potential in the equations of state are discontinuous at the constant specific volume and fixed values of the temperature.

Special relativity with an arbitrary invariant limiting velocity of a particle

It is shown that a generalized special theory of relativity (GSTR) with an arbitrary limiting velocity of a particle different or equal to the speed of light in vacuum can be constructed from the canonical equation of the 4-dimensional hyperboloid of revolution. In particular, when the limiting velocity equals the speed of light, the special theory of relativity (STR), which corresponds to the equation of the equilateral hyperboloid of revolution, is recovered. The generalized Lorentz transformations for any values of the speed limit for both the time-like and the spice-like regions in the coordinate and momentum spaces and in the general parametric form were obtained. It was established that the inversion of time (energy) axis under the (generalized) Lorentz transformations is forbidden. In the GSTR, the rest mass of a space-like particle is real. Our results strongly suggest that the muon neutrino in the OPERA experiment might most likely be a time-like or a light-like superluminal particle, whose limiting velocity may exceed the speed of light in vacuum, rather than a superluminal space-like particle (tachyon) with a speed limit equal to speed of light for which the rest mass $m=117.1^{+11.0}_{-10.5}$ MeV$/c^{2}$.

Equilibrium statistical mechanics for incomplete nonextensive statistics

The incomplete nonextensive statistics in the canonical and microcanonical ensembles is explored in the general case and in a particular case for the ideal gas. By exact analytical results for the ideal gas it is shown that taking the thermodynamic limit, with $z=q/(1-q)$ being an extensive variable of state, the incomplete nonextensive statistics satisfies the requirements of equilibrium thermodynamics. The thermodynamical potential of the statistical ensemble is a homogeneous function of the first degree of the extensive variables of state. In this case, the incomplete nonextensive statistics is equivalent to the usual Tsallis statistics. If $z$ is an intensive variable of state, i.e. the entropic index $q$ is a universal constant, the requirements of the equilibrium thermodynamics are violated.

Renyi statistics in equilibrium statistical mechanics

The Renyi statistics in the canonical and microcanonical ensembles is examined in the general case and in particular for the ideal gas. In the microcanonical ensemble the Renyi statistics is equivalent with the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. By the exact analytical results for the ideal gas, it is shown that in the canonical ensemble in the thermodynamic limit the Renyi statistics is also equivalent with the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. Furthermore it satisfies the requirements of the equilibrium thermodynamics, i.e. the thermodynamical potential of the statistical ensemble is a homogeneous function of degree 1 of its extensive variables of state. We conclude that the Renyi statistics duplicates the thermodynamical relations stemming from the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics in the thermodynamical limit.
