The decay of $N^*$(1895) to light hyperon resonances

In this talk I review the findings of our recent works where we have studied the decay of $N^*(1895)$ and the implications of such properties on the photoproduction of light hyperons. I discuss that meson-baryon interactions play an essential role in describing the nature of $N^*(1895)$ and report the details of our investigation of its decays to different meson-baryon systems and to final states involving $Λ(1405)$ and a proposed $Σ(1400)$. We find that the width of $N^*(1895)$ gets important contributions from the decay to light hyperon resonances. Such an information can be used to look for alternative processes to study $N^*(1895)$ in experimental data.

Decay properties of $N^*(1895)$

The nature of nucleon resonances is still being debated, while much experimental data are accumulated. In this work, we focus on the negative parity resonance $N^*(1895)$ which is located in the scattering region of various meson-baryon coupled channels, and such dynamics can be crucial in understanding its properties. To test the relevance of such hadron dynamics, we investigate the decay properties of $N^*(1895)$ in detail. We examine how a two pole nature of $N^*(1895)$ is compatible with its observed decay properties. Moreover, we find that the resonance decays into final states involving $Λ(1405)$ and $Σ(1400)$, where the latter is not yet observed experimentally. Such decay processes can be useful to study the properties of the aforementioned hyperon resonances.

Roper-like resonances with various flavor contents and their two-pion emission decays

We study the three-body decay of the newly observed bottom baryon $Λ_b^*(6072)$ by LHCb; $Λ_b^*(6072) \to Λ_b ππ$. Its mass about 500 MeV above the ground state $Λ_b$ and a broad width imply that the state could be an analogue of the Roper resonance of the nucleon $N(1440)$. In terms of sequential processes going through $Σ_b$ and $Σ_b^*$, we find that the observed invariant mass distribution is reproduced assuming its spin and parity $J^P = 1/2^+$. We discuss that the ratio of the two sequential processes and angular correlation of two pions are useful for the determination of spin and parity. We suggest further studies for the Roper resonance analogue in various flavor contents, raising an interesting and important question in baryon spectroscopy.

Stable double-heavy tetraquarks: spectrum and structure

Bound states of double-heavy tetraquarks are studied in a constituent quark model. Two bound states are found for isospin and spin-parity I(J^P ) = 0(1^+) in the bb\bar{u}\bar{d} channel. One is deeply bound and compact made of colored diquarks, while the other is shallow and extended as a BB^* molecule. The former agrees well with lattice QCD results. A systematic decrease in the binding energy is seen by replacing one of the heavy quarks to a lighter one. Altogether we find ten bound states. It is shown for the first time that hadrons with totally different natures emerge from a single Hamiltonian.

Three-body decay of $Λ_c^{*} (2765)$ and determination of its spin-parity

We study three-body decays of $Λ_c^{*}(2765) \to Λ_c^+π^+π^-$ by using effective Lagrangians in a non-relativistic framework. We consider the sequential decays through $Σ_c(2455)π$ and $Σ_c^*(2520)π$ in intermediate states which are dominant contributions. The coupling constants in the effective Lagrangians are computed in the quark model. We demonstrate that the ratio $R= Γ(Λ_c^*\toΣ_c^*(2520)π)/Γ(Λ_c^*\to Σ_c(2455)π)$ and angular correlations are sensitive to the spin and parity of $Λ_c^{*}(2765)$. Thus, the measurement of these observables in experimental facilities such as Belle and LHCb can provide useful constraints to determine the spin and parity of $Λ_c^{*}(2765)$.

$ωN$ scattering length from $ω$ photoproduction on the proton near the threshold

Photoproduction of the $ω$ meson on the proton has been experimentally studied near the threshold. The total cross sections are determined at incident energies ranging from 1.09 to 1.15 GeV. The 1/2 and 3/2 spin-averaged scattering length $a_{ωp}$ and effective range $r_{ωp}$ between the $ω$ meson and proton are estimated from the shape of the total cross section as a function of the incident photon energy: $a_{ωp} = \left(-0.97^{+0.16_{\rm stat}}_{-0.16_{\rm stat}}{}^{+0.03_{\rm syst}}_{-0.00_{\rm syst}}\right)+i \left(0.07^{+0.15_{\rm stat}}_{-0.14_{\rm stat}}{}^{+0.17_{\rm syst}}_{-0.09_{\rm syst}}\right)$ fm and $r_{ωp}=\left(+2.78^{+0.68_{\rm stat}}_{-0.54_{\rm stat}}{}^{+0.11_{\rm syst}}_{-0.13_{\rm syst}}\right)+i\left(-0.01^{+0.46_{\rm stat}}_{-0.50_{\rm stat}}{}^{+0.07_{\rm syst}}_{-0.00_{\rm syst}}\right)$ fm, resulting in a repulsive force. The real and imaginary parts for $a_{ωp}$ and $r_{ωp}$ are determined separately for the first time. A small $P$-wave contribution does not affect the obtained values.

Thermal properties and evolution of the $U_A(1)$ factor for 2+1 flavors

Thermal evolution of the axial anomaly is investigated in the system of the linear sigma model for $2+1$ flavors. We explore the functional form of the effective potential and the coefficient of the `t Hooft determinant term. It is found that the latter develops a non-trivial structure as a function of the chiral condensate and grows everywhere with respect to the temperature. This shows that mesonic fluctuations strengthen the axial anomaly at finite temperature and it does not get vanished at the critical point. The phenomenon has been found to have significance in the thermal properties of the mesonic spectra, especially concerning the $η-η'$ system.

Strategies for an accurate determination of the X(3872) energy from QCD lattice simulations

We develop a method to determine accurately the binding energy of the X(3872) from lattice data for the DD* interaction. We show that, because of the small difference between the neutral and charged components of the X(3872), it is necessary to distinguish them in the energy levels of the lattice spectrum if one wishes to have a precise determination of the the binding energy of the X(3872). The analysis of the data requires the use of coupled channels. Depending on the number of levels available and the size of the box we determine the precision needed in the lattice energies to finally obtain a desired accuracy in the binding energy.

Decays of double charmed meson molecules

The interaction between pseudoscalar and/or vector mesons can be studied using hidden gauge Lagrangians. In this framework, the interaction between charmed mesons has been studied. Furthermore, doubly charmed states are also predicted. These new states are near the $D^*D^*$ and $D^*D^*_s$ thresholds, and have spin-parity $J^P=1^+$. We evaluate the decay widths of these states, named as $R_{cc}(3970)$ and $S_{cc}(4100)$ (with strangeness), and obtain $44$ MeV for the non-strangeness, and $24$ MeV for the doubly charm-strange state. Essentially, the decay modes are $DD_{(s)}π$ and $DD_{(s)}γ$, being the $Dπ$ and $Dγ$ emitted by one of the $D^*$ meson which forms the molecule.

Heavy quark symmetry in multi-hadron systems

We discuss the properties of hadronic systems containing one heavy quark in the heavy quark limit. The heavy quark symmetry guarantees the mass degeneracy of the states with total spin and parity $(j-1/2)^{P}$ and $(j+1/2)^{P}$ with $j \geq 1/2$, because the heavy-quark spin is decoupled from the total spin $j$ of the light components called brown muck. We apply this idea to heavy multi-hadron systems, and formulate the general framework to analyze their properties. We demonstrate explicitly the spin degeneracy and the decomposition of the wave functions in exotic heavy hadron systems generated by the one boson exchange potential. The masses of the brown muck can be extracted from theoretical and experimental hadron spectra, leading to the color non-singlet spectroscopy.

$N^*$'s and $Δ$'s generated in vector, pseudoscalar meson-baryon systems

We have recently studied coupled channel interactions of vector and pseudoscalar mesons with octet baryons having total strangeness null and spin-parity $1/2^-$. We, thus, considered $πN$, $ηN$, $K Λ$, $K Σ$, $ρN$, $ωN$, $ϕN$, $K^* Λ$, and $K^*Σ$ with total isospin 1/2 and 3/2. The interactions between pseudoscalar mesons and baryons are obtained by using the Weinberg-Tomozawa theorem. For the case of vector mesons, we calculate $s$-, $t$-, $u$-exchange diagrams and a contact term. The subtraction constants, required to calculate the loop-function in the scattering equations, are constrained by fitting the available experimental data on some of the reactions with pseudoscalar meson-baryon final states. We end up finding resonances which can be related to $N^*(1535)$, $N^*(1650)$ (with a double pole structure), $N^*(1895)$ and $Δ(1620)$. We conclude that these resonances can be, at least partly, interpreted as dynamically generated resonances and that the vector mesons play an important role in determining the dynamical origin of the low-lying $N^*$ and $Δ$ states.

Breit-Wheeler process in very short electromagnetic pulses

The generalized Breit-Wheeler process, i.e. the emission of $e^+e^-$ pairs off a probe photon propagating through a polarized short-pulsed electromagnetic (e.g.\ laser) wave field, is analyzed. We show that the production probability is determined by the interplay of two dynamical effects. The first one is related to the shape and duration of the pulse and the second one is the non-linear dynamics of the interaction of $e^\pm$ with the strong electromagnetic field. The first effect manifests itself most clearly in the weak-field regime, where the small field intensity is compensated by the rapid variation of the electromagnetic field in a limited space-time region, which intensifies the few-photon events and can enhance the production probability by orders of magnitude compared to an infinitely long pulse. Therefore, short pulses may be considered as a powerful amplifier. The non-linear dynamics in the multi-photon Breit-Wheeler regime plays a decisive role at large field intensities, where effects of the pulse shape and duration are less important. In the transition regime, both effects must be taken into account simultaneously. We provide suitable expressions for the $e^+e^-$ production probability for kinematic regions which can be used in transport codes.

Decays of doubly charmed meson molecules

Several observed states close to the $D\bar{D}^*$ and $D^*_{(s)}\bar{D}^*_{(s)}$ thresholds, as the X(3872) and some XYZ particles can be described in terms of a two-meson molecule. Furthermore, doubly charmed states are also predicted. These new states are near the $D^*D^*$ and $D^*D^*_s$ thresholds, % Therefore, if the previous XYZ are molecules, then, there should be doubly charmed mesons with $J^P=1^+$ around the $D^*D^*$ threshold. %For this reason, it is important to evaluate observables related to them. Because of the spin$=1$, they do not decay into $DD$. In this article we compute decays to $DD^*$ and radiative decays of doubly charmed meson molecules into $DD_{(s)}γ$. and have spin-parity $J^P=1^+$. Their natural decay modes are $D_{(s)}D^*$, $DD_{(s)}π$ and $DD_{(s)}γ$ and $D^*D_{(s)}γ$. We evaluate the widths of these states, named here as $R_{cc}(3970)$ and $S_{cc}(4100)$, and obtain 44 MeV for the non-strangeness, and 24 MeV for the doubly charm-strange state. Interpreting the peak structures around 1800 MeV in the BES data on $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$, $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$

In this talk we present an interpretation for the experimental data available on two different processes, namely, $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$, $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$, which seem to indicate existence of two new resonances with the same quantum numbers ($J^{πc}=0^{++}, I = 0$) and very similar mass (~1800 MeV) but with very different decay properties. However, our studies show that the peak structure found in the $ωϕ$ invariant mass, in $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$, is a manifestation of the well known $f_0(1710)$ while the cross section enhancement found in $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$ is indeed a new $f_0$ resonance with mass near 1800 MeV. We present an explanation for the different decay properties of these two scalar resonances.

Role of vector and pseudoscalar mesons in understanding $1/2^-$ $N^*$ and $Δ$ resonances

A study of nonstrange meson-baryon systems has been made with the idea of understanding the properties of the low-lying $1/2^-$ $N^*$ and $Δ$ resonances. The coupled channels are built by considering the pseudoscalar and vector mesons together with the octet baryons. The formalism is based on obtaining the interactions from the lowest order chiral Lagrangian when dealing with pseudoscalar mesons and relying on the hidden local symmetry in case of the vector mesons. The transition between the two systems is obtained by replacing the photon by a vector meson in the Kroll-Ruderman theorem for the photoproduction of pseudoscalar mesons. The subtraction constants, required to calculate the loop-function in the scattering equations, are constrained by fitting the available experimental data on some of the reactions with pseudoscalar meson-baryon final states. As a consequence, we find resonances which can be related to $N^*(1535)$, $N^*(1650)$ (with a double pole structure), $N^*(1895)$ and $Δ(1620)$. We conclude that these resonances can be, at least partly, interpreted as dynamically generated resonances and that the vector mesons play an important role in determining the dynamical origin of the low-lying $N^*$ and $Δ$ states.

Exotic mesons with hidden charm and bottom near thresholds

We study heavy hadron spectroscopy near heavy meson thresholds. We employ heavy pseudoscalar meson P and heavy vector meson P* as effective degrees of freedom and consider meson exchange potentials between them. All possible composite states which can be constructed from the P and P* mesons are studied up to the total angular momentum J <= 2. We consider, as exotic states, isosinglet states with exotic J^{PC} quantum numbers and isotriplet states. We solve numerically the Schrödinger equation with channel-couplings for each state. We found B(*)barB(*) molecule states for I^G(J^{PC}) = 1^+(1^{+-}) correspond to the masses of twin resonances Zb(10610) and Zb(10650). We predict several possible B(*)barB(*) bound and/or resonant states in other channels. On the other hand, there are no B(*)barB(*) bound and/or resonant states whose quantum numbers are exotic.

Negative parity $Λ$ and $Σ$ resonances coupled to pseudoscalar and vector mesons

An exploration of the dynamically generated $Λ$ and $Σ$ resonances has been made in the vector meson-baryon (VB) systems coupled to pseudoscalar meson-baryon (PB) channels. The VB interactions are obtained from the Lagrangians written within the hidden local symmetry which, in addition to Yukawa-type vector-baryon-baryon (VBB) vertices, naturally gives rise to a contact interaction. Using the VBB vertices, we calculate the $t$-, $s$- and $u$-channel diagrams considering the octet baryon exchange in the latter two cases. For the PB channels we rely on the the Weingberg-Tomozawa interactions and calculate the PB $\leftrightarrow$ VB transition amplitudes extending the Kroll-Ruderman theorem by replacing the photon by the vector mesons. In addition to the low-lying $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1670)$ found in previous works, we find resonances which coincide well with: $Λ(2000)$, $Σ(1750) S_{11}$, $Σ(1940) D_{13}$, $Σ(2000) S_{11}$ and predict three $Λ^*$'s with $J^π= 3/2^-$ and masses: $1754 - i2$ MeV, $1862 - i33$ MeV, $2139 - i14$ MeV together with a broad $1/2^-$ $Σ^*$ with mass $\sim$ 1430 MeV. We find that most of these next-to-low-lying states couple weakly with the pseudoscalar mesons, which implies that it is important to study the reactions with VB final states in order to obtain a reliable information on the properties of such resonances.

Vector- and Pseudoscalar-baryon coupled channel systems

In this manuscript, I will report the details of our recent work on the vector meson-baryon (VB) interaction, which we studied with the motivation of finding dynamical generation of resonances in the corresponding systems. We started our study by building a formalism based on the hidden local symmetry and calculating the leading order contributions to the scattering equations by summing the diagrams with: (a) a vector meson exchange in the t-channel (b) an octet baryon exchange in the s-, u-channels and (c) a contact interaction arising from the part of the vector meson-baryon Lagrangian which is related to the anomalous magnetic moment of the baryons. We find the contribution from all these sources, except the s-channel, to be important. The amplitudes obtained by solving the coupled channel Bethe-Salpeter equations for the systems with total strangeness zero, show generation of one isospin 3/2, spin 1/2 resonance and three isospin 1/2 resonances: two with spin 3/2 and one with spin 1/2. We identify these resonances with $Δ$ (1900) $S_{31}$, $N^*$(2080) $D_{13}$, $N^*$(1700) $D_{13}$, and $N^*$(2090) $S_{11}$, respectively. We have further extended our study by including pseudoscalar meson-baryon (PB) as the coupled channels of VB systems. For this, we obtain the PB $\rightarrow$ VB amplitudes by using the Kroll-Ruddermann term where, considering the vector meson dominance phenomena, the photon is replaced by a vector meson. The calculations done within this formalism reveal a very strong coupling of the VB channels to the low-lying resonances like $Λ$(1405) and $Λ$(1670), which can have important implications on certain reactions producing them. In addition to this, we find that the effect of coupling the higher mass states to the lighter channels is not restricted to increasing the width of those states, it can be far more strong.

Coupling vector and pseudoscalar mesons to study baryon resonances

A study of meson-baryon systems with total strangeness -1 is made within a framework based on the chiral and hidden local symmetries. These systems consist of octet baryons, pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The pseudoscalar meson-baryon (PB) dynamics has been earlier found determinant for the existence of some strangeness -1 resonances, for example, $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1670)$, etc. The motivation of the present work is to study the effect of coupling the closed vector meson-baryon (VB) channels to these resonances. To do this, we obtain the $PB \rightarrow PB$ and $VB \rightarrow VB$ amplitudes from the t-channel diagrams and the $PB \leftrightarrow VB$ amplitudes are calculated using the Kroll-Ruddermann term where, considering the vector meson dominance phenomena, the photon is replaced by a vector meson. The calculations done within this formalism reveal a very strong coupling of the VB channels to the $Λ(1405)$ and $Λ(1670)$. In the isospin 1 case, we find an evidence for a double pole structure of the $Σ(1480)$ which, like the isospin 0 resonances, is also found to couple strongly to the VB channels. The strong coupling of these low-lying resonances to the VB channels can have important implications on certain reactions producing them.

Theoretical support for the $π(1300)$ and the recently claimed $f_0(1790)$ as molecular resonances

A study of three-pseudoscalar $πK \bar{K}$ and $ππη$ coupled system is made by solving the Faddeev equations within an approach based on unitary chiral dynamics. A resonance with total isospin one and spin-parity $J^π= 0^-$ is found with mass $\sim$ 1400 MeV when the $K \bar{K}$ system gets reorganized as the $f_0(980)$. This resonance is identified with the $π(1300)$ listed by the Particle Data Group. Further, the two-body amplitude which describes the interaction between a $π$ and the $f_0(980)$ is extracted from the study of the $πK\bar K$ and $ππη$ system and is then employed to study the $f_0(980)ππ$ system. As a result, a scalar resonance is found near 1790 MeV which drives the two $ f_0 (980)π$ systems to resonate as the $π(1300)$ while the invariant mass of the two pions falls in the mass region of the scalar $σ(600)$. These findings support the existence of a new $f_0$ resonance near 1790 MeV, as found by the BES and Crystal Barrel collaborations. Our results show that this $f_0(1790)$ is definitely distinct to $f_0(1710)$, the latter of which seems to possess a glueball structure dominantly.

Vector meson-Baryon dynamics and generation of resonances

The purpose of this work is to study vector meson-octet baryon interactions with the aim to find dynamical generation of resonances in such systems. For this, we consider s-, t-, u-channel diagrams along with a contact interaction originating from the hidden local symmetry Lagrangian. We find the contribution from all these sources, except the s-channel, to be important. The amplitudes obtained by solving coupled channel Bethe Salpeter equations for systems with total strangeness zero, show generation of one isospin 3/2, spin 1/2 resonance and three isospin 1/2 resonances: two with spin 3/2 and one with spin 1/2. We identify these resonances with $Δ(1900) S_{31}$, $N^* (2080) D_{13}$, $N^* (1700) D_{13}$, and $N^*(2090) S_{11}$, respectively.

Near-threshold Lambda(1520) production by the gamma p -> K+Lambda(1520) reaction at forward K+ angles

Differential cross sections and photon-beam asymmetries for the gamma p -> K+ Lambda(1520) reaction have been measured with linearly polarized photon beams at energies from the threshold to 2.4 GeV at 0.6<cos(theta)<1. A new bump structure was found at W=2.11 GeV in the cross sections. The bump is not well reproduced by theoretical calculations introducing a nucleon resonance with J<=3/2. This result suggests that the bump might be produced by a nucleon resonance possibly with J>=5/2 or by a new reaction process, for example an interference effect with the phi photoproduction having a similar bump structure in the cross sections.

Neutrino pair emission off electrons in a strong electromagnetic wave field

The emission of $ν\barν$ pairs off electrons in a polarized ultra-intense electromagnetic (e.g.\ laser) wave field is analyzed. We elaborate on the significance of non-linear electrodynamics effects (i.e., multi-photon processes) and the peculiarities of neutrino production. Special attention is devoted to the convergence of the reaction probabilities as a function of the number of absorbed photons. Expressions for large field intensities are provided. The asymmetry between the probabilities of electron and $μ+τ$ neutrino production depends on initial conditions such as energy of the wave field photons and the field intensity. These findings differ from the lowest order perturbative calculation of the reaction $γ+ e \to e' + ν\bar ν$.

Scalar, axial-vector and tensor resonances from the $ρD^*$, $ωD^*$ interaction in the hidden gauge formalism

We apply a unitary approach together with a set of hidden-gauge Lagrangians to study the vector-vector interaction. We study the case of the $ρ$($ω$)$D^*$ interaction within the model. In $I=1/2$ we get strong enough attraction to bind the system. Concretely, we get one resonance for each spin $J=0,1,2$. For J=1 and 2 these resonances can be easily identified with the $D^*(2460)$ and $D^*(2640)$. Whereas the state for J=0 with mass $M\sim2600$ MeV is a prediction of the model. In $I=3/2$ we get a repulsive interaction and hence no exotic dynamically generated states.

A coupled-channel analysis for phi-photoproduction with Lambda(1520)

We investigate photoproduction of $ϕ$-mesons off protons within a coupled-channel effective-Lagrangian method which is based on the K-matrix approach. Since the threshold energy of the $KΛ(1520)$ channel is close to that of $ϕN$, the contribution of this channel to $ϕ$-photoproduction near the threshold energy region may give rise to some unexpected structures. In the transition amplitude $KΛ(1520) \to ϕN$, the kinematics allows an intermediate kaon to be on-shell. This happens in the energy region where a peak structure has been observed in $ϕ$-photoproduction. In our calculations the on-shell kaon effect indeed reproduces a peak structure, however, with a magnitude that is far too small to explain the observed effect. As a following step we introduce a nucleon resonance in our model. The coupling of the resonance to the $KΛ(1520)$ and $ϕN$ channels is not suppressed by the OZI rule if the resonance contains a dominant hidden strangeness component. We find that the resonance can reproduce a peak structure of the correct magnitude at the right energy. We also investigate the effects of coupled channels and the resonance on the angular distribution and the spin density matrices for $ϕ$ photoproduction.

A Lagrangian for the Chiral (1/2,0) + (0,1/2) Quartet Nucleon Resonances

We study the nucleon and three N* resonances' properties in an effective linear realization chiral SU_L(2) x SU_R(2) and U_A(1) symmetric Lagrangian. We place the nucleon fields into the so-called "naive" (1/2,0) + (0, 1/2) and "mirror" (0, 1/2) + (1/2,0) (fundamental) representations of SU_L(2) x SU_R(2), two of each -distinguished by their U_A(1) chiral properties, as defined by an explicit construction of the nucleon interpolating fields in terms of three quark (Dirac) fields. We construct the most general one-meson-baryon chiral interaction Lagrangian assuming various parities of these four nucleon fields. We show that the observed masses of the four lowest lying nucleon states can be well reproduced with the effective Lagrangian, after spontaneous symmetry breakdown, without explicit breaking of U_A(1) symmetry. This does not mean that explicit U_A(1) symmetry breaking does not occur in baryons, but rather that it does not have a unique mass prediction signature that exists e.g. in the case of spinless mesons. We also consider briefly the axial couplings with chiral representation mixing.

We obtain the decreasing behavior of the total cross section as the CLAS's preliminary data show. We also calculate spin density matrices, and find clear differences between our Regge model and the previous Feynman (isobar) model.

Nucleon axial couplings and [(1/2,0) + (0,1/2)]-[(1,1/2) + (1/2,1)] chiral multiplet mixing

Three-quark nucleon interpolating fields in QCD have well-defined SU_L(2) x SU_R(2) and U_A(1) chiral transformation properties. Mixing of the [(1,1/2) + (1/2,1)] chiral multiplet with one of [(1/2,0) + (0,1/2)] or [(0,1/2) + (1/2,0)] representation can be used to fit the isovector axial coupling g_A(1) and thus predict the isoscalar axial coupling g_A(0) of the nucleon, in reasonable agreement with experiment. We also use a chiral meson-baryon interaction to calculate the masses and one-pion-interaction terms of J=1/2 baryons belonging to the [(0,1/2) + (1/2,0)] and [(1,1/2) + (1/2,1)] chiral multiplets and fit two of the diagonalized masses to the lowest-lying nucleon resonances thus predicting the third J=1/2 resonance at 2030 MeV, not far from the (one-star PDG) state Delta(2150).

Coupling of \bar K*N to the Lambda(1520)

We study the coupling of the Lambda(1520)= Lambda* resonance to the \bar K* vector meson and nucleon. This coupling is not directly measured from the resonance decay, but is expected to be important in hyperon production reactions, in particular for the exotic Theta+ production. We compute the coupling in two different schemes, one in the chiral unitary model where the Lambda* is dominated by the quasibound state of mesons and baryons, and the other in the quark model where the resonance is a p-wave excitation in the three valence quarks. Although it is possible to construct both models such that they reproduce the \bar K N and pi Sigma decays, there is a significant difference between the Lambda* \bar K* N couplings in the two models. In the chiral unitary model $|g_{Λ^*\bar{K}^* N}| \sim 1.5$, while in the quark model $|g_{Λ^*\bar{K}^* N}| \sim 10$. The difference of the results stems from the different structure of the Lambda* in both models, and hence, an experimental determination of this coupling would shed light on the nature of the resonance.

The mass of the nucleon in a chiral quark-diquark model

The mass of the nucleon is studied in a chiral quark-diquark model. Both scalar and axial-vector diquarks are taken into account for the construction of the nucleon state. After the hadronization procedure to obtain an effective meson-baryon Lagrangian, the quark-diquark self-energy is calculated in order to generate the baryon kinetic term as well as the mass of the nucleon. It turns out that both the scalar and axial-vector parts of the self-energy are attractive for the mass of the nucleon. We investigate the range of parameters that can reproduce the mass of the nucleon.

Detailed Analysis of the Chiral Unitary Model for Meson-Baryon Scattering with Flavor SU(3) Breaking Effects

We study s-wave meson-baryon scattering using the chiral unitary model. We consider $1/2^{-}$ baryon resonances as quasibound states of the low lying mesons ($π,K,η$) and baryons ($N,Λ,Σ,Ξ$). In previous works, the subtraction constants which appear in loop integrals were found to largely depend on the channels, and it was necessary to fit these constants to reproduce the data. In order to extend this model to all channels with fewer parameters, we introduce flavor SU(3) breaking interactions in the framework of chiral perturbation theory. It is found, however, that the observed SU(3) breaking in meson-baryon scattering cannot be explained by the present SU(3) breaking interactions. The role and importance of the subtraction constants in the present framework are discussed.

Photoproduction of $K^*$ for the study of $Λ(1405)$

The photo-induced $K^*$ vector meson production is investigated for the study of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance. This reaction is particularly suited to the isolation of the second pole in the $Λ(1405)$ region which couples dominantly to the $\bar K N$ channel. We obtain the mass distribution of the $Λ(1405)$ which peaks at 1420 MeV, and differs from the nominal one. Combined with several other reactions, like the $π^- p \to K^0 πΣ$ which favours the first pole, this detailed study will reveal a novel structure of the $Λ(1405)$ state.

$Λ(1405)$ production in the $π^-p\to K^0πΣ$ reaction

We discuss the mechanisms that lead to $Λ(1405)$ production in the $π^-p\to K^0πΣ$ reaction. The problem has gained renewed interest after different works converge to the conclusion that there are two resonances around the region of 1400 MeV, rather than one, and that they couple differently to the $πΣ$ and $\bar{K}N$ channels. We look at the dynamics of that reaction and find two mechanisms which eventually filter each one of the resonances, leading to very different shapes of the $πΣ$ invariant mass distributions. The combination of the two mechanisms leads to a shape of this distribution compatible with the experimental measurements.

Determining the $Θ^+$ quantum numbers through the $K^+p\to π^+K^+n$ reaction

We study the $K^+p\to π^+K^+n$ reaction with some kinematics suited to the production of the $Θ^+$ resonance recently observed. We show that, independently of the quantum numbers of the $Θ^+$, a resonance signal is always observed in the $K^+$ forward direction. In addition, we also show how a combined consideration of the strength at the peak, and the angular dependence of polarization observables can help determine the $Θ^+$ quantum numbers using the present reaction.

Flavor SU(3) breaking effects in the chiral unitary model for meson-baryon scatterings

We examine flavor SU(3) breaking effects on meson-baryon scattering amplitudes in the chiral unitary model. It turns out that the SU(3) breaking, which appears in the leading quark mass term in the chiral expansion, can not explain the channel dependence of the subtraction parameters of the model, which are crucial to reproduce the observed scattering amplitudes and resonance properties.

Photoproduction of Theta baryon from the neutron

We study photoproduction reactions for Theta^+, which was recently observed as a candidate of an exotic five quark state uudd(bar s). We employ effective lagrangian interactions in the linear and non-linear formalism of chiral symmetry and investigate two cases of spin and parity of Theta^+, J^P = 1/2^+ and 1/2^-. We calculate cross sections and discuss possibilities to discriminate one from the other.

Magnetic moments of the Lambda(1405) and Lambda(1670) resonances

By using techniques of unitarized chiral perturbation theory, where the $Λ(1405)$ and $Λ(1670)$ resonances are dynamically generated, we evaluate the magnetic moments of these resonances and their transition magnetic moment. The results obtained here differ appreciably from those obtained with existing quark models. The width for the $Λ(1670) \to Λ(1405) γ$ transition is also evaluated leading to a branching ratio of the order of $2 \times 10^{-6}$.

Negative Parity Baryons in the QCD Sum Rule

Masses and couplings of the negative parity excited baryons are studied in the QCD sum rule. Separation of the negative-parity spectrum is proposed and is applied to the flavor octet and singlet baryons. We find that the quark condensate is responsible for the mass splitting of the ground and the negative-parity excited states. This is expected from the chiral symmetry and supports the idea that the negative-parity baryon forms a parity doublet with the ground state. The meson-baryon coupling constants are also computed for the excited states in the QCD sum rule. It is found that the πNN^* coupling vanishes in the chiral limit.

Nuclear G-Matrix Elements from Nonlocal Potentials

We study effects of nonlocality in the nuclear force on the G-matrix elements for finite nuclei. Nuclear G-matrix elements for $\O16$ are calculated in the harmonic oscillator basis from a nonlocal potential which models quark exchange effects between two nucleons. We employ a simple form of potential that gives the same phase shifts as a realistic local nucleon potential. The G-matrix elements calculated from the nonlocal potential show moderate increase in repulsion from those derived from the local potential.
