Kaon, Nucleon and $Δ^*$ Resonances with Hidden Charm

In this presentation we discuss the generation of hadrons with an exotic quark content and hidden charm emerging from three-body interactions. To be more specific, we have studied the $KD\bar{D}^*/K\bar D D^*$ and $ND\bar{D}^*/N\bar{D}D^*$ systems and predicted states generated from the respective three-body dynamics. In the case of the $KD\bar{D}^*/K\bar D D^*$ system we predict the formation of a meson state with mass around $4307$ MeV and quantum numbers $I(J^P) = 1/2(1^-)$, $K^*(4307)$, and from the study of the $ND\bar{D}^*/N\bar{D}D^*$ system we found $N^*$ states with masses in the range $4400\sim 4600$ MeV, width of $2\sim 20$ MeV and positive parity.

Masses and widths of the exotic molecular $B_{(s)}^{(*)} B_{(s)}^{(*)}$ states

We study the interaction of the doubly bottom systems $BB$, $B^* B$, $B_s B$, $B_s^* B$, $B^* B^*$, $B^* B_s$, $B^*B_s^*$, $B_s B_s$, $B_s B_s^*$, $B_s^* B_s^*$ by means of vector meson exchange with Lagrangians from an extension of the local hidden gauge approach. The full s-wave scattering matrix is obtained implementing unitarity in coupled channels by means of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. We find poles below the channel thresholds for the attractively interacting channels $B^* B$ in $I=0$, $B^*_s B-B^*B_s$ in $I=\frac{1}{2}$, $B^* B^*$ in $I=0$, and $B^*_s B^*$ in $I=\frac{1}{2}$, all of them with $J^P=1^+$. For these cases the widths are evaluated identifyng the dominant source of imaginary part. We find binding energies of the order of $10-20$ MeV, and the widths vary much from one system to the other: of the order of 10-100 eV for the $B^* B$ system and $B^*_s B-B^*B_s$, about $6$ MeV for the $B^* B^*$ system and of the order of $0.5$ MeV for the $B^*_s B^*$ system.

The decay of $N^*$(1895) to light hyperon resonances

In this talk I review the findings of our recent works where we have studied the decay of $N^*(1895)$ and the implications of such properties on the photoproduction of light hyperons. I discuss that meson-baryon interactions play an essential role in describing the nature of $N^*(1895)$ and report the details of our investigation of its decays to different meson-baryon systems and to final states involving $Λ(1405)$ and a proposed $Σ(1400)$. We find that the width of $N^*(1895)$ gets important contributions from the decay to light hyperon resonances. Such an information can be used to look for alternative processes to study $N^*(1895)$ in experimental data.

Decay properties of $N^*(1895)$

The nature of nucleon resonances is still being debated, while much experimental data are accumulated. In this work, we focus on the negative parity resonance $N^*(1895)$ which is located in the scattering region of various meson-baryon coupled channels, and such dynamics can be crucial in understanding its properties. To test the relevance of such hadron dynamics, we investigate the decay properties of $N^*(1895)$ in detail. We examine how a two pole nature of $N^*(1895)$ is compatible with its observed decay properties. Moreover, we find that the resonance decays into final states involving $Λ(1405)$ and $Σ(1400)$, where the latter is not yet observed experimentally. Such decay processes can be useful to study the properties of the aforementioned hyperon resonances.

Hyperon resonances and meson-baryon interactions in isospin 1

In this work we extend our formalism to study meson-baryon interactions by including $s$- and $u$-channel diagrams for pseudoscalar-baryon systems. We study the coupled systems with strangeness $-1$ and focus on studying the isospin-1 resonance(s), especially in the energy region around 1400 MeV. By constraining the model parameters to fit the cross section data available on several processes involving relevant channels, we find resonances in the isoscalar as well as the isovector sector in the energy region around 1400 MeV.

Partial decay widths of $ϕ(2170)$ to kaonic resonances

In this work we study the strong decays of $ϕ(2170)$ to final states involving the kaonic resonances $K(1460)$, $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$, on which experimental data have recently been extracted by the BESIII Collaboration. The formalism developed here is based on interpreting $ϕ(2170)$ and $K(1460)$ as states arising from three-hadron dynamics, which is inspired by our earlier works. For $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ we investigate different descriptions, such as a mixture of states belonging to the nonet of axial resonances, or the former one as a state originating from the vector-pseudoscalar dynamics. The ratios among the partial widths of $K^+(1460)K^-$, $K^+_1(1400)K^-$ and $K^+_1(1270)K^-$ obtained are compatible with the experimental results, reinforcing the three-body nature of $ϕ(2170)$. Within our formalism, we can also explain the suppressed decay of $ϕ(2170)$ to $K^*(892) \bar K^*(892)$, as found by the BESIII Collaboration. Furthermore, our results can be useful in clarifying the properties of $K(1460)$, $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ when higher statistics data would be available.

Production of the (predicted) $K^*(4307)$ in $B$ decays

In this work we study the production of $K^*(4307)$ in $B$ decays by determining the $J/ψπ^{+(0)}K^{0}$ and $J/ψπ^- K^+$ invariant mass distributions of the processes $B^+\to J/ψπ^+π^0 K^0$ and $B^+\to J/ψπ^+π^- K^+$, respectively. Such $K^*(4307)$ has been recently predicted as a three-body state originated from the dynamics involved in the $K D\bar D^*$ system, with the $KD$ subsystem forming the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ in isospin 0, and the $D\bar D^*$ subsystem generating the $X(3872)$ in isospin 0 and the $Z_c(3900)$ in isospin 1. The hidden charm content of $K^*(4307)$ favors its decay to a state like $J/ψπK$ and the study of $B$-decays with these particles in their final states can constitute a way of finding experimental evidences for such an exotic vector meson, whose width, in spite of its large mass, is still quite narrow (around 18 MeV).

Strong decays of the explicitly exotic doubly charmed $DDK$ bound state

Nowadays, it is generally accepted that the $DK$ interaction in isospin zero is strongly attractive and the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ can be described as a $DK$ molecular state. Recent studies show that the three-body $DDK$ system binds as well with a binding energy about 60$\sim$70 MeV. The $DDK$ bound state has isospin $1/2$ and spin-parity $0^-$. If discovered either experimentally or in lattice QCD, it will not only provide further support on the molecular nature of the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$, but also provide a way to understand other exotic hadrons expected to be of molecular nature. In the present work, we study its two-body strong decay widths via triangle diagrams. We find that the partial decay width into $DD_sπ$ is at the order of $2\sim3$ MeV, which seems to be within the reach of the current experiments such as BelleII. As a result, we strongly recommend this decay channel of the $DDK$ bound state to be searched for experimentally.

$X(3872)$ production and absorption in a hot hadron gas

We calculate the time evolution of the $X(3872)$ abundance in the hot hadron gas produced in the late stage of heavy ion collisions. We use effective field Lagrangians to obtain the production and dissociation cross sections of $X(3872)$. In this evaluation we include diagrams involving the anomalous couplings $πD^*\bar{D}^*$ and $X \bar{D}^{\ast} D^{\ast}$ and also the couplings of the $X(3872)$ with charged $D$ and $D^*$ mesons. With these new terms the $X(3872)$ interaction cross sections are much larger than those found in previous works. Using these cross sections as input in rate equations, we conclude that during the expansion and cooling of the hadronic gas, the number of $X(3872)$, originally produced at the end of the mixed QGP/hadron gas phase, is reduced by a factor of 4.

A QCD sum rule calculation of the $X^\pm(5568) \to B_{s}^0π^\pm$ decay width

To understand the nature of the $X(5568)$, recently observed in the mass spectrum of the $B_{s}^0π^\pm$ system by the D0 Collaboration, we have investigated, in a previous work, a scalar tetraquark (diquak-antidiquark) structure for it, within the two-point QCD sum rules method. The result found for its mass agrees well with the experimental value. Encouraged by this finding we now extend our calculations to obtain the decay width of $X(5568)$ to $B_{s}^0π^\pm$ using the three-point QCD sum rule. We obtain a value of $(20.4\pm8.7)\MeV$, which, on comparing with the experimental value of $21.9\pm6.4 (\mbox{sta})^{+5.0}_{-2.5}(\mbox{syst}) \MeV/c^2$, reinforces the scalar four quark nature of $X(5568)$.

A QCD sum rule study for a charged bottom-strange scalar meson

Using the QCD sum rule approach we investigate the possible four-quark structure for the new observed $B_{s}^0π^\pm$ narrow structure (D0). We use a diquak-antidiquark scalar current and work to the order of $m_s$ in full QCD, without relying on $1/m_Q$ expansion. Our study indicates that although it is possible to obtain a stable mass in agreement with the state found by the D0 collaboration, a more constraint analysis (simultaneous requirement of the OPE convergence and the dominance of the pole on the phenomenological side) leads to a higher mass. We also predict the masses of the bottom scalar tetraquark resonances with zero and two strange quarks.

Looking for bound states and resonances in the $η^\prime K\bar K$ system

Motivated by the continuous experimental investigations of $X(1835)$ in three-body decay channels like $η^\prime π^+ π^-$, we investigate the $η^\prime K \bar K$ system with the aim of searching for bound states and/or resonances when the dynamics involved in the $K\bar K$ subsystem can form the resonances: $f_0(980)$ in isospin 0 or $a_0(980)$ in isospin 1. For this, we solve the Faddeev equations for the three-body system. The input two-body $t$-matrices are obtained by solving Bethe-Salpeter equations in a coupled channel formalism. As a result, no signal of a three-body bound state or resonance is found.

A study of the $KN$-$K^*N$ coupled systems

We study the strangeness $+1$ meson-baryon systems to obtain improved $KN$ and $K^*N$ amplitudes and to look for a possible resonance formation by the $KN$-$K^*N$ coupled interaction. We obtain amplitudes for light vector meson-baryon systems by implementing the $s$-, $t$-, $u$- channel diagrams and a contact interaction. The pseudoscalar meson-baryon interactions are obtained by relying on the Weinberg-Tomozawa theorem. The transition amplitudes between the systems consisting of pseudoscalars and vector mesons are calculated by extending the Kroll-Ruderman term for pion photoproduction replacing the photon by a vector meson. We fix the subtraction constants required to calculate the loops by fitting our $KN$ amplitudes to the data available for the isospin 0 and 1 $s$-wave phase shifts. We provide the scattering lengths and the total cross sections for the $KN$ and $K^* N$ systems obtained in our model, which can be useful in future in-medium calculations. Our amplitudes do not correspond to formation of any resonance in none of the isospin and spin configurations.

Problems with meson spectroscopy involving perturbative loop corrections

In this talk we review the limitations of including meson loops as perturbative corrections in a solvable quark model. We first discuss meson-meson scattering within a formalism which treats confined quark pairs and mesons on an equal footing. The interaction between the mesons proceeds through $s$-channel meson-exchange diagrams. Next, we develop a perturbative expansion of the model, and show that the resonance poles found in such a treatment, even by accounting for contributions up to fourth order, do not coincide with those obtained with the full model. We conclude that the resonance predictions based on perturbative approximations in quark models are not reliable, especially in those cases where the coupling to the scattering channels is large.

$X(3872)$ production from reactions involving $D$ and $D^*$ mesons

In this proceeding we show the results found for the cross sections of the processes $\bar D D\toπX(3872)$, $\bar D^* D\to πX(3872)$ and $\bar D^* D^*\toπX(3872)$, information needed for calculations of the $X(3872)$ abundance in heavy ion collisions. Our formalism is based on the generation of $X(3872)$ from the interaction of the hadrons $\bar D^0 D^{*0} - \textrm{c.c}$, $D^- D^{*+} - \textrm{c.c}$ and $D^-_s D^{*+}_s - \textrm{c.c}$. The evaluation of the cross section associated with processes having $D^*$ meson(s) involves an anomalous vertex, $X\bar D^* D^*$, which we have determined by considering triangular loops motivated by the molecular nature of $X(3872)$. We find that the contribution of this vertex is important. Encouraged by this finding we estimate the $X\bar D^* D^*$ coupling, which turns out to be $1.95\pm 0.22$. We then use it to obtain the cross section for the reaction $\bar D^* D^*\toπX$ and find that the $X\bar D^* D^*$ vertex is also relevant in this case. We also discuss the role of the charged components of $X$ in the determination of the production cross sections.

$X(3872)$ production in high energy heavy ion collisions

We show the results obtained for the cross sections of the processes $\bar D D$, $\bar D^* D$, $\bar D^* D^*\toπX(3872)$, information which is necessary to determine the $X(3872)$ abundance in heavy ion collisions. Our formalism is based on the generation of $X(3872)$ from the interaction of the hadrons $\bar D^0 D^{*0} - \textrm{c.c}$, $D^- D^{*+} - \textrm{c.c}$ and $D^-_s D^{*+}_s - \textrm{c.c}$ an the calculation of the $X\bar D^* D^*$ anomalous vertex considering $X(3872)$ as a molecule of the above hadrons channels.

On $X(3872)$ production in high energy heavy ion collisions

We have determined the production cross sections of the $X(3872)$ state in the reactions $\bar D D\toπX$, $\bar D^* D\to πX$ and $\bar D^* D^*\toπX$, information which is useful for studies of the $X(3872)$ meson abundance in heavy ion collisions. We construct a formalism considering $X$ as a molecular bound state of $\bar D^0 D^{*0} - \textrm{c.c}$, $D^- D^{*+} - \textrm{c.c}$ and $D^-_s D^{*+}_s - \textrm{c.c}$. To obtain the amplitudes related to these processes we have made use of effective field Lagrangians. The evaluation of the cross section of the processes involving $D^*$ meson(s) requires the calculation of an anomalous vertex, $X\bar D^* D^*$, which has been obtained by considering triangular loops motivated by the molecular nature of $X(3872)$. Proceeding in this way, we have evaluated the cross section for the reaction $\bar D^* D\to πX$, and find that the diagrams involving the $X\bar D^* D^*$ vertex give a large contribution. Encouraged by this finding we estimate the $X\bar D^* D^*$ coupling, which turns out to be $1.95\pm 0.22$. We then use it to obtain the cross section for the reaction $\bar D^* D^*\toπX$ and find that, in this case too, the $X\bar D^* D^*$ vertex is relevant. We also discuss the role of the charged components of $X$ in the determination of the production cross sections.

Prediction of an $I=1$ $D \bar D^*$ state and relationship to the claimed $Z_c(3900)$, $Z_c(3885)$

We study here the interaction of $D \bar D^*$ in the isospin $I=1$ channel in the light of recent theoretical advances that allow to combine elements of the local hidden gauge approach with heavy quark spin symmetry. We find that the exchange of light $q \bar q$ is OZI suppressed and, thus, we concentrate on the exchange of heavy vectors and of two pion exchange. The latter is found to be small compared to the exchange of heavy vectors, which then determines the strength of the interaction. A barely $D\bar{D}^*$ bound state decaying into $η_cρ$ and $πJ/ψ$ is found. At the same time we reanalyze the data of the BESIII experiment on $e^+ e^- \to π^{\pm} (D \bar D^*)^\mp$, from where a $Z_c(3885)$ state was claimed, associated to a peak in the $(D \bar D^*)^\mp$ invariant mass distribution close to threshold, and we find the data compatible with a resonance with mass around $3875$ MeV and width around $30$ MeV. We discuss the possibility that this and the $Z_c(3900)$ state found at BESIII, reconfirmed at 3896 MeV at Belle, or 3885 MeV at CLEO, could all be the same state and correspond to the one that we find theoretically.

$N^*$'s and $Δ$'s generated in vector, pseudoscalar meson-baryon systems

We have recently studied coupled channel interactions of vector and pseudoscalar mesons with octet baryons having total strangeness null and spin-parity $1/2^-$. We, thus, considered $πN$, $ηN$, $K Λ$, $K Σ$, $ρN$, $ωN$, $ϕN$, $K^* Λ$, and $K^*Σ$ with total isospin 1/2 and 3/2. The interactions between pseudoscalar mesons and baryons are obtained by using the Weinberg-Tomozawa theorem. For the case of vector mesons, we calculate $s$-, $t$-, $u$-exchange diagrams and a contact term. The subtraction constants, required to calculate the loop-function in the scattering equations, are constrained by fitting the available experimental data on some of the reactions with pseudoscalar meson-baryon final states. We end up finding resonances which can be related to $N^*(1535)$, $N^*(1650)$ (with a double pole structure), $N^*(1895)$ and $Δ(1620)$. We conclude that these resonances can be, at least partly, interpreted as dynamically generated resonances and that the vector mesons play an important role in determining the dynamical origin of the low-lying $N^*$ and $Δ$ states.

Exploring the $D^*ρ$ system within QCD sum rules

We present a study of the $D^*ρ$ system made by using the method of QCD sum rules to determine the mass of possible resonances generated in the same system. Using isospin and spin projectors, we investigate the different configurations and obtain evidences for three $D^*$ mesons with isospin $I=1/2$, spin S=0, 1, 2 and with masses $2500\pm 67$ MeV, $2523\pm60$ MeV, and $2439\pm119$ MeV, respectively. The last state can be associated with $D^*_2(2460)$ (spin 2) listed by the Particle Data Group, while one of the first two might be related to $D^*(2640)$, with unknown spin-parity. In the case of $I=3/2$ we also find evidences of three states with spin 0, 1 and 2, respectively, with masses $2467\pm82$ MeV, $2420\pm128$ MeV, and $2550\pm56$ MeV. The results for the sector $I=1/2$ and S=0, 1, 2, are intriguingly similar to a previous study of the $D^*ρ$ system based on effective field theories, supporting in this way a molecular picture for the resonances $D^*(2640)$ and $D^*_2(2460)$, while the results for $I=3/2$ hint towards the existence of exotic mesons since a multiquark configuration is required to get the quantum numbers of the states found.

Interaction of eta mesons with nuclei

Back in the mid eighties, a new branch of investigation which was related to the interaction of eta mesons with nuclei came into existence. It started with the theoretical prediction of possible exotic states of eta mesons and nuclei bound by the strong interaction and later developed into an extensive experimental program to search for such unstable states as well as understand the underlying interaction via eta meson producing reactions. The vast literature of experimental as well as theoretical works which studied various aspects of eta producing reactions such as the $π^+$ $n$ $\to ηp$, $p d \to ^3$He $η$, $p \,^6$Li $\to ^7$Be $η$ and $γ^3$He $\to η$ X, to name a few, had but one objective in mind: to understand the eta - nucleon ($ηN$) and hence the $η$-nucleus interaction which could explain the production data and confirm the existence of some $η$-mesic nuclei. In spite of these efforts, there remain uncertainties in the knowledge of the $ηN$ and hence the $η$-nucleus interaction. The present review is hence an attempt to bind together the findings in these works and draw some global and specific conclusions which can be useful for future explorations.

Interpreting the peak structures around 1800 MeV in the BES data on $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$, $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$

In this talk we present an interpretation for the experimental data available on two different processes, namely, $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$, $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$, which seem to indicate existence of two new resonances with the same quantum numbers ($J^{πc}=0^{++}, I = 0$) and very similar mass (~1800 MeV) but with very different decay properties. However, our studies show that the peak structure found in the $ωϕ$ invariant mass, in $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$, is a manifestation of the well known $f_0(1710)$ while the cross section enhancement found in $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$ is indeed a new $f_0$ resonance with mass near 1800 MeV. We present an explanation for the different decay properties of these two scalar resonances.

Magnetic moments of the low-lying {1/2}^- octet baryon resonances

The magnetic moments of the negative parity octet resonances with spin {1/2}: $N^*$(1535), $N^*$(1650), $Σ^*$(1620), and $Ξ^*$(1690) have been calculated within the framework of the chiral constituent quark model. In this approach, the presence of the polarized $q\bar{q}$ pairs (or the meson cloud, in other words) is considered by using the Lagrangian for Goldstone boson emission from the constituent quarks. Further, the explicit contributions coming from the spin and orbital angular momentum, including the effects of the configurations mixing between the states with different spins, are obtained. The motivation for these calculations comes from the recent interest in experimental measurement of the magnetic moment of the ${S_{11}(1535)}$ resonance and of similar calculations being done within lattice quantum chromodynamics approaches. Our results can be compared with those expected to come from these sources.

Predicting the existence of a 2.9 GeV $Df_0(980)$ molecular state

A $D$-like meson resonance with mass around 2.9 GeV has been found in the $DK\bar K$ system using two independent and different model calculations based on: (1) QCD sum rules and (2) solution of Fadeev equations with input interactions obtained from effective field theories built by considering both chiral and heavy quark symmetries. The QCD sum rules have been used to study the $D_{s^*0}(2317) \bar{K}$ and $D f_0(980)$ molecular currents. A resonance of mass 2.926 GeV is found with the $D f_0(980)$ current. Although a state in the $D_{s^*0}(2317) \bar{K}$ current is also obtained, with mass around 2.9 GeV, the coupling of this state is found to be two times weaker than the one formed in $D f_0(980)$. On the other hand, few-body equations are solved for the $D K \bar{K}$ system and its coupled channels with the input $t$-matrices obtained by solving Bethe-Salpeter equations for the $D K$, $D\bar{K}$ and $K \bar{K}$ subsystems. In this study a $D$-like meson with mass 2.890 GeV and full width $\sim$ 55 MeV is found to get dynamically generated when $D K \bar{K}$ gets reorganized as $D f_0(980)$. However, no clear signal appears for the $D_{s^*0}(2317) \bar{K}$ configuration. The striking similarity between the results obtained in the two different models indicates strongly towards the existence of a $D f_0 (980)$ molecule with mass nearly 2.9 GeV.

Reanalysis of the $e^+ e^- \to (D^* \bar D^*)^{\pm} π^{\mp}$ reaction and the claim for the $Z_c (4025)$ resonance

In this paper we study the reaction $e^+ e^- \to (D^* \bar D^*)^{\pm} π^{\mp}$ in which the BESIII collaboration has claimed the existence of a $1^+$ resonance, named $Z_c(4025)$, in the $D^*\bar D^*$ invariant mass spectrum with a mass around 4026 MeV and width close to 26 MeV. We determine the $D^*\bar D^*$ invariant mass distribution and find that although the explanation considered by the BESIII collaboration is plausible, there are others which are equally possible, like a $2^+$ resonance or a bound state. Even more, we find that the data can be explained without the existence of a resonance/bound state. In view of the different possible interpretations found for the BESIII data, we try to devise a strategy which could help in identifying the origin of the signal reported by the BESIII collaboration. For this, we study the dependence of the $D^*\bar D^*$ spectrum considering the different options as a function of the total center of mass energy. We arrive to the conclusion that increasing the center of mass energy from 4.26 GeV to 4.6 GeV can be useful to distinguish between a resonance, a bound state or just a pure background as being responsible for the signal found. This information should be useful for future experiments.

Relating $D^* \bar{D}^*$ currents with $J^π= 0^+,1^+$ and $2^+$ to $Z_c$ states

In this work we study the $D^* \bar{D}^*$ current with QCD sum rules. We write the correlation function using the general current corresponding to the $D^* \bar{D}^*$ system and then use spin projectors to obtain the correlation function in the $0^+, 1^+$ and $2^+$ spin-parity configurations. The purpose of the present work is to investigate the possibility of explaining the recently reported $Z_c(4025)$ as a $D^* \bar{D}^*$ moleculelike state. As a result we find a state for each spin case with a very similar mass: $M^{S=0} = \left(3943 \pm 104\right)$ MeV, $M^{S=1} = \left(3950 \pm 105\right)$ MeV, $M^{S=2} = \left(3946 \pm 104 \right)$ MeV. We discuss that our mass results, within error bars, for $1^+$ or $2^+$ are both compatible with $Z_c(4025)$. However, our results are also compatible with a possible $D^* \bar{D}^*$ bound state, in agreement with predictions of some previous works. We have also calculated the current-state coupling which turns out to be larger in the $2^+$ case.

Role of vector and pseudoscalar mesons in understanding $1/2^-$ $N^*$ and $Δ$ resonances

A study of nonstrange meson-baryon systems has been made with the idea of understanding the properties of the low-lying $1/2^-$ $N^*$ and $Δ$ resonances. The coupled channels are built by considering the pseudoscalar and vector mesons together with the octet baryons. The formalism is based on obtaining the interactions from the lowest order chiral Lagrangian when dealing with pseudoscalar mesons and relying on the hidden local symmetry in case of the vector mesons. The transition between the two systems is obtained by replacing the photon by a vector meson in the Kroll-Ruderman theorem for the photoproduction of pseudoscalar mesons. The subtraction constants, required to calculate the loop-function in the scattering equations, are constrained by fitting the available experimental data on some of the reactions with pseudoscalar meson-baryon final states. As a consequence, we find resonances which can be related to $N^*(1535)$, $N^*(1650)$ (with a double pole structure), $N^*(1895)$ and $Δ(1620)$. We conclude that these resonances can be, at least partly, interpreted as dynamically generated resonances and that the vector mesons play an important role in determining the dynamical origin of the low-lying $N^*$ and $Δ$ states.

The role of $f_0(1710)$ in the $ϕω$ threshold peak of $J/Ψ\to γϕω$

We study the process $J/Ψ\to γϕω$, measured by the BES experiment, where a neat peak close to the $ϕω$ threshold is observed and is associated to a scalar meson resonance around 1800 MeV. We make the observation that a scalar resonance coupling to $ϕω$ unavoidably couples strongly to $K \bar K$, but no trace of a peak is seen in the $K \bar K$ spectrum of the $J/Ψ\to γK \bar K$ at this energy. This serves us to rule out the interpretation of the observed peak as a signal of a new resonance. After this is done, a thorough study is performed on the production of a pair of vector mesons and how its interaction leads necessarily to a peak in the $J/Ψ\to γϕω$ reaction close to the $ϕω$ threshold, due to the dynamical generation of the $f_0(1710)$ resonance by the vector-vector interaction. We then show that both the shape obtained for the $ϕω$ mass distribution, as well as the strength are naturally reproduced by this mechanism. The work also explains why the $ϕω$ peak is observed in the BES experiment and not in other reactions, like $B^\pm\to K^\pm ϕω$ of Belle.

Three-body hadron systems with strangeness

Recently, many efforts are being put in studying three-hadron systems made of mesons and baryons and interesting results are being found. In this talk, I summarize the main features of the formalism used to study such three hadron systems with strangeness $S=-1,0$ within a framework built on the basis of unitary chiral theories and solution of the Faddeev equations. In particular, I present the results obtained for the $π\bar{K}N$, $K\bar{K}N$ and $KK\bar{K}$ systems and their respective coupled channels. In the first case, we find four $Σ$'s and two $Λ$'s with spin-parity $J^P=1/2^+$, in the 1500-1800 MeV region, as two meson-one baryon s-wave resonances. In the second case, a $1/2^+$ $N^*$ around 1900 MeV is found. For the last one a kaon close to 1420 MeV is formed, which can be identified with K(1460).

A new perspective on the Faddeev equations and the $\bar{K}NN$ system from chiral dynamics and unitarity in coupled channels

We review recent work concerning the $\bar{K}N$ interaction and Faddeev equations with chiral dynamics which allow us to look at the $\bar{K}NN$ from a different perspective and pay attention to problems that have been posed in previous studies on the subject. We show results which provide extra experimental evidence on the existence of two $Λ(1405)$ states. We then show the findings of a recent approach to Faddeev equations using chiral unitary dynamics, where an explicit cancellation of the two body off shell amplitude with three body forces stemming from the same chiral Lagrangians takes place. This removal of the unphysical off shell part of the amplitudes is most welcome and renders the approach unambiguous, showing that only on shell two body amplitudes need to be used. With this information in mind we use an approximation to the Faddeev equations within the fixed center approximation to study the $\bar{K}NN$ system, providing answers within this approximation to questions that have been brought before and evaluating binding energies and widths of this three body system. As a novelty with respect to recent work on the topic we find a bound state of the system with spin S=1, like a bound state of $\bar{K}$-deuteron, less bound that the one of S=0, where all recent efforts have been devoted. The width is relatively large in this case, suggesting problems in a possible experimental observation.

Magnetic moments of the low-lying $J^P=\,1/2^-$, $3/2^-$ $Λ$ resonances within the framework of the chiral quark model

The magnetic moments of the low-lying spin-parity $J^P=$ $1/2^-$, $3/2^-$ $Λ$ resonances, like, for example, $Λ(1405)$ $1/2^-$, $Λ(1520)$ $3/2^-$, as well as their transition magnetic moments, are calculated using the chiral quark model. The results found are compared with those obtained from the nonrelativistic quark model and those of unitary chiral theories, where some of these states are generated through the dynamics of two hadron coupled channels and their unitarization.

Negative parity $Λ$ and $Σ$ resonances coupled to pseudoscalar and vector mesons

An exploration of the dynamically generated $Λ$ and $Σ$ resonances has been made in the vector meson-baryon (VB) systems coupled to pseudoscalar meson-baryon (PB) channels. The VB interactions are obtained from the Lagrangians written within the hidden local symmetry which, in addition to Yukawa-type vector-baryon-baryon (VBB) vertices, naturally gives rise to a contact interaction. Using the VBB vertices, we calculate the $t$-, $s$- and $u$-channel diagrams considering the octet baryon exchange in the latter two cases. For the PB channels we rely on the the Weingberg-Tomozawa interactions and calculate the PB $\leftrightarrow$ VB transition amplitudes extending the Kroll-Ruderman theorem by replacing the photon by the vector mesons. In addition to the low-lying $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1670)$ found in previous works, we find resonances which coincide well with: $Λ(2000)$, $Σ(1750) S_{11}$, $Σ(1940) D_{13}$, $Σ(2000) S_{11}$ and predict three $Λ^*$'s with $J^π= 3/2^-$ and masses: $1754 - i2$ MeV, $1862 - i33$ MeV, $2139 - i14$ MeV together with a broad $1/2^-$ $Σ^*$ with mass $\sim$ 1430 MeV. We find that most of these next-to-low-lying states couple weakly with the pseudoscalar mesons, which implies that it is important to study the reactions with VB final states in order to obtain a reliable information on the properties of such resonances.

Vector- and Pseudoscalar-baryon coupled channel systems

In this manuscript, I will report the details of our recent work on the vector meson-baryon (VB) interaction, which we studied with the motivation of finding dynamical generation of resonances in the corresponding systems. We started our study by building a formalism based on the hidden local symmetry and calculating the leading order contributions to the scattering equations by summing the diagrams with: (a) a vector meson exchange in the t-channel (b) an octet baryon exchange in the s-, u-channels and (c) a contact interaction arising from the part of the vector meson-baryon Lagrangian which is related to the anomalous magnetic moment of the baryons. We find the contribution from all these sources, except the s-channel, to be important. The amplitudes obtained by solving the coupled channel Bethe-Salpeter equations for the systems with total strangeness zero, show generation of one isospin 3/2, spin 1/2 resonance and three isospin 1/2 resonances: two with spin 3/2 and one with spin 1/2. We identify these resonances with $Δ$ (1900) $S_{31}$, $N^*$(2080) $D_{13}$, $N^*$(1700) $D_{13}$, and $N^*$(2090) $S_{11}$, respectively. We have further extended our study by including pseudoscalar meson-baryon (PB) as the coupled channels of VB systems. For this, we obtain the PB $\rightarrow$ VB amplitudes by using the Kroll-Ruddermann term where, considering the vector meson dominance phenomena, the photon is replaced by a vector meson. The calculations done within this formalism reveal a very strong coupling of the VB channels to the low-lying resonances like $Λ$(1405) and $Λ$(1670), which can have important implications on certain reactions producing them. In addition to this, we find that the effect of coupling the higher mass states to the lighter channels is not restricted to increasing the width of those states, it can be far more strong.

Coupling vector and pseudoscalar mesons to study baryon resonances

A study of meson-baryon systems with total strangeness -1 is made within a framework based on the chiral and hidden local symmetries. These systems consist of octet baryons, pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The pseudoscalar meson-baryon (PB) dynamics has been earlier found determinant for the existence of some strangeness -1 resonances, for example, $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1670)$, etc. The motivation of the present work is to study the effect of coupling the closed vector meson-baryon (VB) channels to these resonances. To do this, we obtain the $PB \rightarrow PB$ and $VB \rightarrow VB$ amplitudes from the t-channel diagrams and the $PB \leftrightarrow VB$ amplitudes are calculated using the Kroll-Ruddermann term where, considering the vector meson dominance phenomena, the photon is replaced by a vector meson. The calculations done within this formalism reveal a very strong coupling of the VB channels to the $Λ(1405)$ and $Λ(1670)$. In the isospin 1 case, we find an evidence for a double pole structure of the $Σ(1480)$ which, like the isospin 0 resonances, is also found to couple strongly to the VB channels. The strong coupling of these low-lying resonances to the VB channels can have important implications on certain reactions producing them.

Theoretical support for the $π(1300)$ and the recently claimed $f_0(1790)$ as molecular resonances

A study of three-pseudoscalar $πK \bar{K}$ and $ππη$ coupled system is made by solving the Faddeev equations within an approach based on unitary chiral dynamics. A resonance with total isospin one and spin-parity $J^π= 0^-$ is found with mass $\sim$ 1400 MeV when the $K \bar{K}$ system gets reorganized as the $f_0(980)$. This resonance is identified with the $π(1300)$ listed by the Particle Data Group. Further, the two-body amplitude which describes the interaction between a $π$ and the $f_0(980)$ is extracted from the study of the $πK\bar K$ and $ππη$ system and is then employed to study the $f_0(980)ππ$ system. As a result, a scalar resonance is found near 1790 MeV which drives the two $ f_0 (980)π$ systems to resonate as the $π(1300)$ while the invariant mass of the two pions falls in the mass region of the scalar $σ(600)$. These findings support the existence of a new $f_0$ resonance near 1790 MeV, as found by the BES and Crystal Barrel collaborations. Our results show that this $f_0(1790)$ is definitely distinct to $f_0(1710)$, the latter of which seems to possess a glueball structure dominantly.

Two, three, many body systems involving mesons

In this talk we show recent developments on few body systems involving mesons. We report on an approach to Faddeev equations using chiral unitary dynamics, where an explicit cancellation of the two body off shell amplitude with three body forces stemming from the same chiral Lagrangians takes place. This removal of the unphysical off shell part of the amplitudes is most welcome and renders the approach unambiguous, showing that only on shell two body amplitudes need to be used. Within this approach, systems of two mesons and one baryon are studied, reproducing properties of the low lying $1/2^+$ states. On the other hand we also report on multirho and $K^*$ multirho states which can be associated to known meson resonances of high spin.

Vector meson-Baryon dynamics and generation of resonances

The purpose of this work is to study vector meson-octet baryon interactions with the aim to find dynamical generation of resonances in such systems. For this, we consider s-, t-, u-channel diagrams along with a contact interaction originating from the hidden local symmetry Lagrangian. We find the contribution from all these sources, except the s-channel, to be important. The amplitudes obtained by solving coupled channel Bethe Salpeter equations for systems with total strangeness zero, show generation of one isospin 3/2, spin 1/2 resonance and three isospin 1/2 resonances: two with spin 3/2 and one with spin 1/2. We identify these resonances with $Δ(1900) S_{31}$, $N^* (2080) D_{13}$, $N^* (1700) D_{13}$, and $N^*(2090) S_{11}$, respectively.

Drawbacks of applying perturbative schemes to meson spectroscopy

We study meson-meson scattering in a soluble model which describes asymptotically free mesons and confined quark-antiquark pairs via coupled channels. Concretely, the two scattered mesons are assumed to interact through s-channel meson-exchange diagrams. Furthermore, we develop a perturbative expansion of the model, and show that the thus found resonance pole positions, including contributions up to fourth order in perturbation theory, completely fail to reproduce the exact results. This shows that the resonance predictions based on perturbative approximations in quark models may be highly unreliable.

The Y(4260) as a $J/ψK \bar{K}$ system

A study of the $J/ψππ$ and $J/ψK \bar{K}$ systems, treating them as coupled channels, has been made by solving the Faddeev equations, with the purpose of investigating the possibility of generation of the $J^{PC} = 1^{--}$, Y(4260) resonance due to the interaction between these three mesons. In order to do this, we start by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation for the two pseudoscalar and for the vector-pseudocalar meson systems using the amplitudes obtained from the lowest order chiral Lagrangians as potentials. With the $t$-matrices generated from these potentials, which contain the poles of the $σ$, $f_{0}(980)$ and $a_{0}(980)$ resonances for the pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar system and the pole of the X(3872), alongwith other new charmed resonant states, for the vector-pseudoscalar system, we solve the Faddeev equations. As a result, we get a peak around 4150 MeV with a width $\sim$ 90 MeV when the invariant mass of the two pseudoscalars is close to that of the $f_0 (980)$.

Three body systems with strangeness and exotic systems

We report on four $Σ$'s and three $Λ$'s, in the 1500 - 1800 MeV region, as two meson - one baryon S-wave $(1/2)^+$ resonances found by solving the Faddeev equations in the coupled channel approach, which can be associated to the existing $S$ = -1, $J^P= 1/2^+$ low lying baryon resonances. On the other hand we also report on a new, hidden strangeness $N^*$ state, mostly made of $K \bar{K} N$, with mass around 1920 MeV, which we think could be responsible for the peak seen in the $γp \to K^+ Λ$ around this energy. Finally we address a very novel topic in which we show how few body systems of several $ρ$ mesons can be produced, with their spins aligned up to J=6, and how these states found theoretically can be associated to several known mesons with spins J=2,3,4,5,6.

Searching for exotic states in the $N πK $ system

We study the $N πK$ system in order to investigate the possibility of existence of strangeness +1 resonance(s). The formalism consists of solving the Faddeev equations with the $N π$, $πK $ and $K N$ $t$-matrices obtained from chiral dynamics. The same formalism, which leads to the finding of several $1/2^+$ resonances in the corresponding three-body $S$ = -1 channels in the 1400-2000 MeV energy region, results into only one broad bump around 1700 MeV with isospin 0. The amplitudes in isospin 1 and 2 configuration do not have any resonant structure.

Searching for signatures around 1920 MeV of a $N^*$ state of three hadron nature

We provide a series of arguments which support the idea that the peak seen in the $γp \to K^+ Λ$ reaction around 1920 MeV should correspond to the recently predicted state of $J^P=1/2^+$ as a bound state of $K \bar{K}N$ with a mixture of $a_0(980)N$ and $f_0(980)N$ components. At the same time we propose polarization experiments in that reaction as a further test of the prediction, as well as a study of the total cross section for $γp \to K^+ K^- p$ at energies close to threshold and of $d σ/d M_{inv}$ for invariant masses close to the two kaon threshold.

Time Delay Plots of Unflavoured Baryons

We explore the usefulness of the existing relations between the $S$-matrix and time delay in characterizing baryon resonances in pion-nucleon scattering. We draw attention to the fact that the existence of a positive maximum in time delay is a necessary criterion for the existence of a resonance and should be used as a constraint in conventional analyses which locate resonances from poles of the $S$-matrix and Argand diagrams. The usefulness of the time delay plots of resonances is demonstrated through a detailed analysis of the time delay in several partial waves of $πN$ elastic scattering.

Collision times in pi-pi and pi-K scattering and spectroscopy of meson resonances

Using the concept of collision time (time delay) introduced by Eisenbud and Wigner and its connection to on-shell intermediate unstable states, we study mesonic resonances in pi-pi and pi-K scattering. The time-delay method proves its usefulness by revealing the spectrum of the well-known rho- and K*-mesons and by supporting some speculations on rho-mesons in the 1200 MeV region. We use this method further to shed some light on more speculative meson resonances, among others the enigmatic scalars. We confirm the existence of chiralons below 1 GeV in the unflavoured and strange meson sector.

Study of the $η$-nucleus interaction in the $p d \to ^3He η$ reaction near threshold

A detailed study of the effect of the $η$-nucleus final state interaction (FSI) in the $p d \to ^3$He$ η$ reaction close to threshold is presented. The FSI is incorporated through a T-matrix for $η^3$He elastic scattering, constructed using few body equations. This T-matrix accounts for off-shell and binding effects in $η$-nucleus scattering. The energy dependence of the data on the $p d \to ^3$He$ η$ reaction near threshold is reproduced only after including the FSI. The off-shell and binding effects in $η^3$He scattering are found to be important. Given the uncertainty in the knowledge of the elementary $η$-nucleon interaction, the sensitivity of the $ p d \to ^3$He$ η$ cross section to different prescriptions of the elementary t-matrix, $t_{ηN \to ηN}$ is also discussed.
