Dualities in quantum integrable many-body systems and integrable probabilities -- I

In this study we map the dualities observed in the framework of integrable probabilities into the dualities familiar in a realm of integrable many-body systems. The dualities between the pairs of stochastic processes involve one representative from Macdonald-Schur family, while the second representative is from stochastic higher spin six-vertex model of TASEP family. We argue that these dualities are counterparts and generalizations of the familiar quantum-quantum (QQ) dualities between pairs of integrable systems. One integrable system from QQ dual pair belongs to the family of inhomogeneous XXZ spin chains, while the second to the Calogero-Moser-Ruijsenaars-Schneider (CM-RS) family. The wave functions of the Hamiltonian system from CM-RS family are known to be related to solutions to (q)KZ equations at the inhomogeneous spin chain side. When the wave function gets substituted by the measure, bilinear in wave functions, a similar correspondence holds true. As an example, we have elaborated in some details a new duality between the discrete-time inhomogeneous multispecies TASEP model on the circle and the quantum Goldfish model from the RS family. We present the precise map of the inhomogeneous multispecies TASEP and 5-vertex model to the trigonometric and rational Goldfish models respectively, where the TASEP local jump rates get identified as the coordinates in the Goldfish model. Some comments concerning the relation of dualities in the stochastic processes with the dualities in SUSY gauge models with surface operators included are made.

Non-backtracking walks reveal compartments in sparse chromatin interaction networks

Chromatin communities stabilized by protein machinery play essential role in gene regulation and refine global polymeric folding of the chromatin fiber. However, treatment of these communities in the framework of the classical network theory (stochastic block model, SBM) does not take into account intrinsic linear connectivity of the chromatin loci. Here we propose the "polymer" block model, paving the way for community detection in polymer networks. On the basis of this new model we modify the non-backtracking flow operator and suggest the first protocol for annotation of compartmental domains in sparse single cell Hi-C matrices. In particular, we prove that our approach corresponds to the maximum entropy principle. The benchmark analyses demonstrates that the spectrum of the polymer non-backtracking operator resolves the true compartmental structure up to the theoretical detectability threshold, while all commonly used operators fail above it. We test various operators on real data and conclude that the sizes of the non-backtracking single cell domains are most close to the sizes of compartments from the population data. Moreover, the found domains clearly segregate in the gene density and correlate with the population compartmental mask, corroborating biological significance of our annotation of the chromatin compartmental domains in single cells Hi-C matrices.

Self-isolation or borders closing: what prevents epidemic spreading better?

Pandemic distribution of COVID-19 in the world has motivated us to discuss combined effects of network clustering and adaptivity on epidemic spreading. We address the question concerning the choice of optimal mechanism for most effective prohibiting disease propagation in a connected network: adaptive clustering, which mimics self-isolation (SI) in local communities, or sharp instant clustering, which looks like frontiers closing (FC) between cities and countries. SI-networks are "adaptively grown" under condition of maximization of small cliques in the entire network, while FC-networks are "instantly created". Running the standard SIR model on clustered SI- and FC-networks, we demonstrate that the adaptive network clustering prohibits the epidemic spreading better than the instant clustering in the network with similar parameters. We found that SI model has scale-free property for degree distribution $P(k)\sim k^η$ with small critical exponent $-2<η<-1$ and argue that scale-free behavior emerges due to the randomness in the initial degree distributions and is absent for random regular graphs.

Dynamics of non-Abelian strings in the theory interpolating from ${\mathcal N}=2$ to ${\mathcal N}=1$ supersymmetric QCD

We study the dynamics of non-Abelian vortex strings supported in ${\mathcal N}=2$ supersymmetric QCD with the U$(N)$ gauge group and $N_f=N$ quark flavors deformed by the mass $μ$ of the adjoint matter. In the limit of large $μ$ the bulk four-dimensional theory flows to ${\mathcal N}=1$ supersymmetric QCD. The dynamics of orientational zero modes of the non-Abelian string is described by the world sheet CP$(N-1)$ model. At $μ=0$ this model has ${\mathcal N}= \left(2,2\right) $ supersymmetry while at large $μ$ it flows to the non-supersymmetric CP$(N-1)$ model. We solve the world sheet model in the large $N$ approximation and find a rich phase structure with respect to the deformation parameter $μ$ and quark mass differences. The phases include two strong coupling phases and two Higgs phases. In particular, the Higgs phase at small $μ$ supports CP$(N-1)$ model kinks representing confined monopoles of the bulk QCD, while in the large-$μ$ Higgs phase monopoles disappear.

Anomaly matching condition in two-dimensional systems

Based on Son-Yamamoto relation obtained for transverse part of triangle axial anomaly in ${\rm QCD}_4$, we derive its analog in two-dimensional system. It connects the transverse part of mixed vector-axial current two-point function with diagonal vector and axial current two-point functions. Being fully non-perturbative, this relation may be regarded as anomaly matching for conductivities or certain transport coefficients depending on the system. We consider the holographic RG flows in holographic Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons theory via the Hamilton-Jacobi equation with respect to the radial coordinate. Within this holographic model it is found that the RG flows for the following relations are diagonal: Son-Yamamoto relation and the left-right polarization operator. Thus the Son-Yamamoto relation holds at wide range of energy scales.

Eigenvalue tunnelling and decay of quenched random networks

We consider the canonical ensemble of $N$-vertex Erdős-Rényi (ER) random topological graphs with quenched vertex degree, and with fugacity $μ$ for each closed triple of bonds. We claim complete defragmentation of large-$N$ graphs into the collection of $[p^{-1}]$ almost full subgraphs (cliques) above critical fugacity, $μ_c$, where $p$ is the ER bond formation probability. Evolution of the spectral density, $ρ(λ)$, of the adjacency matrix with increasing $μ$ leads to the formation of two-zonal support for $μ>μ_c$. Eigenvalue tunneling from one (central) zone to the other means formation of a new clique in the defragmentation process. The adjacency matrix of the ground state of a network has the block-diagonal form where number of vertices in blocks fluctuate around the mean value $Np$. The spectral density of the whole network in this regime has triangular shape. We interpret the phenomena from the viewpoint of the conventional random matrix model and speculate about possible physical applications.

Vortical susceptibility of finite-density QCD matter

The susceptibility of finite-density QCD matter to vorticity is introduced, as an analog of magnetic susceptibility. It describes the spin polarization of quarks and antiquarks in finite-density QCD matter induced by rotation. We estimate this quantity in the chirally broken phase using the mixed gauge-gravity anomaly at finite baryon density. It is proposed that the vortical susceptibility of QCD matter is responsible for the polarization of $Λ$ and ${\bar Λ}$ hyperons observed recently in heavy ion collisions at RHIC by the STAR Collaboration.

Condensates and instanton - torus knot duality. Hidden Physics at UV scale

We establish the duality between the torus knot superpolynomials or the Poincaré polynomials of the Khovanov homology and particular condensates in $Ω$-deformed 5D supersymmetric QED compactified on a circle with 5d Chern-Simons(CS) term. It is explicitly shown that $n$-instanton contribution to the condensate of the massless flavor in the background of four-observable, exactly coincides with the superpolynomial of the $T(n,nk+1)$ torus knot where $k$ - is the level of CS term. In contrast to the previously known results, the particular torus knot corresponds not to the partition function of the gauge theory but to the particular instanton contribution and summation over the knots has to be performed in order to obtain the complete answer. The instantons are sitting almost at the top of each other and the physics of the "fat point" where the UV degrees of freedom are slaved with point-like instantons turns out to be quite rich. Also also see knot polynomials in the quantum mechanics on the instanton moduli space. We consider the different limits of this correspondence focusing at their physical interpretation and compare the algebraic structures at the both sides of the correspondence. Using the AGT correspondence, we establish a connection between superpolynomials for unknots and q-deformed DOZZ factors.

Critical behavior in topological ensembles

We consider the relation between three physical problems: 2D directed lattice random walks, ensembles of $T_{n,n+1}$ torus knots, and instanton ensembles in 5D SQED with one compact dimension in $Ω$ background and with 5D Chern-Simons term at the level one. All these ensembles exhibit the critical behavior typical for the "area+length+corners" statistics of grand ensembles of 2D directed paths. Using the combinatorial description, we obtain an explicit expression of the generating function for $q$-Narayana numbers which amounts to the new critical behavior in the ensemble of $T_{n,n+1}$ torus knots and in the ensemble of instantons in 5D SQED. Depending on the number of the nontrivial fugacities, we get either the critical point, or cascade of critical lines and critical surfaces. In the 5D gauge theory the phase transition is of the 3rd order, while in the ensemble of paths and ensemble of knots it is typically of the 1st order. We also discuss the relation with the integrable models.

RG-Whitham dynamics and complex Hamiltonian systems

Inspired by the Seiberg-Witten exact solution, we consider some aspects of the Hamiltonian dynamics with the complexified phase space focusing at the renormalization group(RG)-like Whitham behavior. We show that at the Argyres-Douglas(AD) point the number of degrees of freedom in Hamiltonian system effectively reduces and argue that anomalous dimensions at AD point coincide with the Berry indexes in classical mechanics. In the framework of Whitham dynamics AD point turns out to be a fixed point. We demonstrate that recently discovered Dunne-Ünsal relation in quantum mechanics relevant for the exact quantization condition exactly coincides with the Whitham equation of motion in the Omega - deformed theory.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking and Phase Coexistence in Two-Color Networks

We have considered an equilibrium ensemble of large Erdős-Renyi topological random networks with fixed vertex degree and two types of vertices, black and white, prepared randomly with the bond connection probability, $p$. The network energy is a sum of all unicolor triples (either black or white), weighted with chemical potential of triples, $μ$. Minimizing the system energy, we see for some positive $μ$ formation of two predominantly unicolor clusters, linked by a "string" of $N_{bw}$ black-white bonds. We have demonstrated that the system exhibits critical behavior manifested in emergence of a wide plateau on the $N_{bw}(μ)$-curve, which is relevant to a spinodal decomposition in 1st order phase transitions. In terms of a string theory, the plateau formation can be interpreted as an entanglement between baby-universes in 2D gravity. We have conjectured that observed classical phenomenon can be considered as a toy model for the chiral condensate formation in quantum chromodynamics.

The Condensate from Torus Knots

We discuss recently formulated instanton-torus knot duality in $Ω$-deformed 5D SQED on $\mathbb{R}^4 \times S^1$ focusing at the microscopic aspects of the condensate formation in the instanton ensemble. Using the chain of dualities and geometric transitions we embed the SQED with a surface defect into the $SU(2)$ SQCD with $N_f=4$ and identify the numbers $(n,m)$ of the torus $T_{n,m}$ knot as instanton charge and electric charge. The HOMFLY torus knot invariants in the fundamental representation provide entropic factor in the condensate of the massless flavor counting the degeneracy of the instanton--W-boson web with instanton and electric numbers $(n,m)$ but different spin and flavor content. Using the inverse geometrical transition we explain how our approach is related to the evaluation of the HOMFLY invariants in terms of Wilson loop in 3d CS theory. The reduction to 4D theory is briefly considered and some analogy with baryon vertex is conjectured.

Is the Standard Model saved asymptotically by conformal symmetry?

It is pointed out that the top-quark and Higgs masses and the Higgs VEV satisfy with great accuracy the relations 4m_H^2=2m_T^2=v^2, which are very special and reminiscent of analogous ones at Argyres - Douglas points with enhanced conformal symmetry. Furthermore, the RG evolution of the corresponding Higgs self-interaction and Yukawa couplings λ(0)=1/8 and y(0)=1 leads to the free-field stable point λ(M_Pl)= \dot λ(M_Pl)=0 in the pure scalar sector at the Planck scale, also suggesting enhanced conformal symmetry. Thus, it is conceivable that the Standard Model is the low-energy limit of a distinct special theory with (super?) conformal symmetry at the Planck scale. In the context of such a "scenario" one may further speculate that the Higgs particle is the Goldstone boson of (partly) spontaneously broken conformal symmetry. This would simultaneously resolve the hierarchy and Landau pole problems in the scalar sector and would provide a nearly flat potential with two almost degenerate minima at the electroweak and Planck scales.

Son-Yamamoto relation and Holographic RG flows

Motivated by the Son-Yamamoto (SY) relation which connects the three point and two-point correlators we consider the holographic RG flows in the bottom-up approach to holographic QCD via the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equation with respect to the radial coordinate . It is shown that the SY relation is diagonal with respect to the RG flow in the 5d YM-CS model while the RG equation acquires the inhomogeneous term in the model with the additional scalar field which encodes the chiral condensate.

Baryon as dyonic instanton-II. Baryon mass versus chiral condensate

We discuss the description of baryon as the dyonic instanton in holographic QCD. The solution generalizes the Skyrmion taking into account the infinite tower of vector and axial mesons as well as the chiral condensate. We construct the solution with unit baryon charge and study the dependence of its mass on the chiral condensate. The elegant explanation of the Ioffe's formula has been found and we speculate on the relation between physical scales of the chiral and conformal symmetry breaking.

Spectrum of Quantum Transfer Matrices via Classical Many-Body Systems

In this paper we clarify the relationship between inhomogeneous quantum spin chains and classical integrable many-body systems. It provides an alternative (to the nested Bethe ansatz) method for computation of spectra of the spin chains. Namely, the spectrum of the quantum transfer matrix for the inhomogeneous ${\mathfrak g}{\mathfrak l}_n$-invariant XXX spin chain on $N$ sites with twisted boundary conditions can be found in terms of velocities of particles in the rational $N$-body Ruijsenaars-Schneider model. The possible values of the velocities are to be found from intersection points of two Lagrangian submanifolds in the phase space of the classical model. One of them is the Lagrangian hyperplane corresponding to fixed coordinates of all $N$ particles and the other one is an $N$-dimensional Lagrangian submanifold obtained by fixing levels of $N$ classical Hamiltonians in involution. The latter are determined by eigenvalues of the twist matrix. To support this picture, we give a direct proof that the eigenvalues of the Lax matrix for the classical Ruijsenaars-Schneider model, where velocities of particles are substituted by eigenvalues of the spin chain Hamiltonians, calculated through the Bethe equations, coincide with eigenvalues of the twist matrix, with certain multiplicities. We also prove a similar statement for the ${\mathfrak g}{\mathfrak l}_n$ Gaudin model with $N$ marked points (on the quantum side) and the Calogero-Moser system with $N$ particles (on the classical side). The realization of the results obtained in terms of branes and supersymmetric gauge theories is also discussed.

The CP(N-1) model on a Disc and Decay of a Non-Abelian String

We consider the role of quantum effects in the non-perturbative decay of non-abelian string with orientational moduli in non-supersymmetric D=4 gauge theory. To this aim the effective action in the $CP(N-1)$ model on a disc at large N has been calculated. It exhibits phase transition at some radius, the "wrong sign" Luscher term and large boundary boojum-like negative contribution. The effect of $θ$ - term and the possibility of the spontaneous creation of the non-abelian string are briefly discussed.

Baryon as dyonic instanton

We discuss the baryon in the holographic QCD framework and focus on the role of the bifundamental scalar field, realizing chiral symmetry breaking. We suggest the interpretation of a baryon as a dyonic instanton within the Atiyah-Manton-like approach for the flavor gauge group in the peculiar cylindrical ansatz in five-dimensional theory. Our approach provides the new mechanism of the stabilization of the baryon size.

From elongated spanning trees to vicious random walks

Given a spanning forest on a large square lattice, we consider by combinatorial methods a correlation function of $k$ paths ($k$ is odd) along branches of trees or, equivalently, $k$ loop--erased random walks. Starting and ending points of the paths are grouped in a fashion a $k$--leg watermelon. For large distance $r$ between groups of starting and ending points, the ratio of the number of watermelon configurations to the total number of spanning trees behaves as $r^{-ν} \log r$ with $ν= (k^2-1)/2$. Considering the spanning forest stretched along the meridian of this watermelon, we see that the two--dimensional $k$--leg loop--erased watermelon exponent $ν$ is converting into the scaling exponent for the reunion probability (at a given point) of $k$ (1+1)--dimensional vicious walkers, $\tildeν = k^2/2$. Also, we express the conjectures about the possible relation to integrable systems.

More on the Tensor Response of the QCD Vacuum to an External Magnetic Field

In this Letter we discuss a few issues concerning the magnetic susceptibility of the quark condensate and the Son-Yamamoto (SY) anomaly matching equation. It is shown that the SY relation in the IR implies a nontrivial interplay between the kinetic and WZW terms in the chiral Lagrangian. It is also demonstrated that in a holographic framework an external magnetic field triggers mixing between scalar and tensor fields. Accounting for this, one may calculate the magnetic susceptibility of the quark condensate to all orders in the magnetic field.

Random ballistic growth and diffusion in symmetric spaces

Sequential ballistic deposition (BD) with next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) interactions in a N-column box is viewed a time-ordered product of N\times N-matrices consisting of a single sl_2-block which has a random position along the diagonal. We relate the uniform BD growth with the diffusion in the symmetric space H_N=SL(N,R)/SO(N). In particular, the distribution of the maximal height of a growing heap is connected with the distribution of the maximal distance for the diffusion process in H_N. The coordinates of H_N are interpreted as the coordinates of particles of the one--dimensional Toda chain. The group-theoretic structure of the system and links to some random matrix models are also discussed.

Angular Momentum and Gravimagnetization of the ${\cal N}=2$ SYM vacuum

In this note we discuss the gravimagnetization of the ${\cal N}=2$ SYM vacuum in the $Ω$-background. It is argued that the Seiberg-Witten prepotential is related to the vacuum density of the angular momentum in the Euclidean $R^4$ space. The possible role of the dyonic instantons as the microscopic angular momentum carriers which could yield the spontaneous vacuum gravimagnetization is conjectured. We interpret the dyonic instanton as a kind of the Euclidean bounce in $R^4$ similar to one responsible for the Schwinger pair creation. The induced angular momentum in $R^4$ is also briefly considered in the dual Liouville formulation of $SU(2)$ theory via AGT relation.

Anomalous QCD Contribution to the Debye Screening in an External Field via Holography

In this paper we discuss the QCD contribution to the Abelian Debye and magnetic screening masses in a deconfined QCD plasma at finite temperature in the presence of an external magnetic field B. We use a holographic AdS/QCD setup in an AdS Schwarzschield black hole background and show that the electric screening mass has a form similar to the one-loop result in QED. Moreover, we calculate the corrections due to the magnetic field to all orders of B and demonstrate that in the case when magnetic field is large the Debye mass grows linearly with B, while the magnetic screening mass vanishes. The whole effect of the magnetic field turns out to stem from the Chern-Simons action. We also discuss the zero temperature case in the chiral perturbation theory.

Confined Magnetic Monopoles in Dense QCD

Non-Abelian strings exist in the color-flavor locked phase of dense QCD. We show that kinks appearing in the world-sheet theory on these strings, in the form of the kink-antikink bound pairs, are the magnetic monopoles --- descendants of the 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles surviving in such a special form in dense QCD. Our consideration is heavily based on analogies and inspiration coming from certain supersymmetric non-Abelian theories. This is the first ever analytic demonstration that objects unambiguously identifiable as the magnetic monopoles are "native" to non-Abelian Yang-Mills theories (albeit our analysis extends only to the phase of the monopole confinement and has nothing to say about their condensation). Technically our demonstration becomes possible due to the fact that low-energy dynamics of the non-Abelian strings in dense QCD is that of the orientational zero modes. It is described by an effective two-dimensional CP(2) model on the string world sheet. The kinks in this model representing confined magnetic monopoles are in a highly quantum regime.

Low-Energy Theorems from Holography

In the context of gauge/gravity duality, we verify two types of gauge theory low-energy theorems, the dilation Ward identities and the decoupling of heavy flavor. First, we provide an analytic proof of non-trivial dilation Ward identities for a theory holographically dual to a background with gluon condensate (the self-dual Liu--Tseytlin background). In this way an important class of low-energy theorems for correlators of different operators with the trace of the energy-momentum tensor is established, which so far has been studied in field theory only. Another low-energy relationship, the so-called decoupling theorem, is numerically shown to hold universally in three holographic models involving both the quark and the gluon condensate. We show this by comparing the ratio of the quark and gluon condensates in three different examples of gravity backgrounds with non-trivial dilaton flow. As a by-product of our study, we also obtain gauge field condensate contributions to meson transport coefficients.

Remarks on Decay of Defects with Internal Degrees of Freedom

We consider the decay of metastable walls and strings populated by additional degrees of freedom. The examples involve the decay of an axion wall in an external magnetic field, pionic walls, metastable walls in dense QCD. It is shown that the induced fermions escape from the wall during the decay process providing an example of the chiral magnetic effect. An absolute stabilization of metastable and unstable walls in a large magnetic field is found. A possible higher dimensional generalization of the chiral magnetic effect is mentioned.

Aspects of the N=4 SYM amplitude -- Wilson polygon duality

We discuss formulation of Wilson polygon - MHV amplitude duality at the perturbative level in various regularizations. For four gluons it is shown that at one loop one can formulate diagrammatic correspondence interpolating between the dimensional regularization and the off-shell one. We suggest new interpretation of all types of box diagrams in terms of the dual simplex in dimensional regularization and describe its degeneration to the Wilson polygon. The interesting nullification phenomena for the low-energy amplitudes in the Higgsed phase has been found.

One-loop derivation of the Wilson polygon - MHV amplitude duality

We discuss the origin of the Wilson polygon - MHV amplitude duality at the perturbative level. It is shown that the duality for the MHV amplitudes at one-loop level can be proven upon the peculiar change of variables in Feynman parametrization and the use of the relation between Feynman integrals at the different space-time dimensions. Some generalization of the duality which implies the insertion of the particular vertex operator at the Wilson triangle is found for the 3-point function. We discuss analytical structure of Wilson loop diagrams and present the corresponding Landau equations. The geometrical interpretation of the loop diagram in terms of the hyperbolic geometry is discussed.

Supersymmetric Quantum Chromodynamics: How Confined Non-Abelian Monopoles Emerge from Quark Condensation

We consider N =1 supersymmetric QCD with the gauge group U(N) and N_f=N quark flavors. To get rid of flat directions we add a meson superfield. The theory has no adjoint fields and, therefore, no 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles in the quasiclassical limit. We observe a non-Abelian Meissner effect: condensation of color charges (squarks) gives rise to confined monopoles. The very fact of their existence in N =1 supersymmetric QCD without adjoint scalars was not known previously. Our analysis is analytic and is based on the fact that the N =1 theory under consideration can be obtained starting from N =2 SQCD in which the 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles do exist, through a certain limiting procedure allowing us to track the status of these monopoles at various stages. Monopoles are confined by BPS non-Abelian strings (flux tubes). Dynamics of string orientational zero modes are described by supersymmetric CP(N-1) sigma model on the string world sheet. If a dual of N =1 SQCD with the gauge group U(N) and N_f=N quark flavors could be identified, in this dual theory our demonstration would be equivalent to the proof of the non-Abelian dual Meissner effect.

Non-Abelian Meissner Effect in Yang--Mills Theories at Weak Coupling

We present a weak-coupling Yang--Mills model supporting non-Abelian magnetic flux tubes and non-Abelian confined magnetic monopoles. In the dual description the magnetic flux tubes are prototypes of the QCD strings. Dualizing the confined magnetic monopoles we get gluelumps which convert a "QCD string" in the excited state to that in the ground state. Introducing a mass parameter m we discover a phase transition between the Abelian and non-Abelian confinement at a critical value m=m_* of order of Lambda. Underlying dynamics are governed by a Z_N symmetry inherent to the model under consideration. At m>m_* the Z_N symmetry is spontaneously broken, resulting in N degenerate Z_N (Abelian) strings. At m<m_* the Z_N symmetry is restored, the degeneracy is lifted, and the strings become non-Abelian. We calculate tensions of the non-Abelian strings, as well as the decay rates of the metastable strings, at N >> 1.

Spontaneous Z2 Symmetry Breaking in the Orbifold Daughter of N=1 Super Yang-Mills Theory, Fractional Domain Walls and Vacuum Structure

We discuss the fate of the Z2 symmetry and the vacuum structure in an SU(N)xSU(N) gauge theory with one bifundamental Dirac fermion. This theory can be obtained from SU(2N) supersymmetric Yang--Mills (SYM) theory by virtue of Z2 orbifolding. We analyze dynamics of domain walls and argue that the Z2 symmetry is spontaneously broken. Since unbroken Z2 is a necessary condition for nonperturbative planar equivalence we conclude that the orbifold daughter is nonperturbatively nonequivalent to its supersymmetric parent. En route, our investigation reveals the existence of fractional domain walls, similar to fractional D-branes of string theory on orbifolds. We conjecture on the fate of these domain walls in the true solution of the Z2-broken orbifold theory. We also comment on relation with nonsupersymmetric string theories and closed-string tachyon condensation.

An Exact Relation for N=1 Orientifold Field Theories with Arbitrary Superpotential

We discuss a nonperturbative relation for orientifold parent/daughter pairs of supersymmetric theories with an arbitrary tree-level superpotential. We show that super-Yang-Mills (SYM) theory with matter in the adjoint representation at N-->infinity, is equivalent to a SYM theory with matter in the antisymmetric representation and a related superpotential. The gauge symmetry breaking patterns match in these theories too. The moduli spaces in the limiting case of a vanishing superpotential are also discussed. Finally we argue that there is an exact mapping between the effective superpotentials of two finite-N theories belonging to an orientifold pair.

High Energy QCD: Stringy Picture from Hidden Integrability

We discuss the stringy properties of high-energy QCD using its hidden integrability in the Regge limit and on the light-cone. It is shown that multi-colour QCD in the Regge limit belongs to the same universality class as superconformal $\cal{N}$=2 SUSY YM with $N_f=2N_c$ at the strong coupling orbifold point. The analogy with integrable structure governing the low energy sector of $\cal{N}$=2 SUSY gauge theories is used to develop the brane picture for the Regge limit. In this picture the scattering process is described by a single M2 brane wrapped around the spectral curve of the integrable spin chain and unifying hadrons and reggeized gluons involved in the process. New quasiclassical quantization conditions for the complex higher integrals of motion are suggested which are consistent with the $S-$duality of the multi-reggeon spectrum. The derivation of the anomalous dimensions of the lowest twist operators is formulated in terms of the Riemann surfaces

Liouville theory and special coadjoint Virasoro orbits

We describe the Hamiltonian reduction of the coajoint Kac-Moody orbits to the Virasoro coajoint orbits explicitly in terms of the Lagrangian approach for the Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten theory. While a relation of the coajoint Virasoro orbit $Diff \; S^1 /SL(2,R)$ to the Liouville theory has been already studied we analyse the role of special coajoint Virasoro orbits $Diff \; S^1/\tilde{T}_{\pm ,n}$ corresponding to stabilizers generated by the vector fields with double zeros. The orbits with stabilizers with single zeros do not appear in the model. We find an interpretation of zeros $x_i$ of the vector field of stabilizer $\tilde{T}_{\pm ,n}$ and additional parameters $q_i$, $i = 1,...,n$, in terms of quantum mechanics for $n$ point particles on the circle. We argue that the special orbits are generated by insertions of "wrong sign" Liouville exponential into the path integral. The additional parmeters $q_i$ are naturally interpreted as accessory parameters for the uniformization map. Summing up the contributions of the special Virasoro orbits we get the integrable sinh-Gordon type theory.
