Primitive permutation groups whose subdegrees are bounded above

preprint2012arXivOpen access

Abstract

If GG is a group of permutations of a set ΩΩ and α∈Ωα\in Ω, then the {\em αα-suborbits} of GG are the orbits of the stabilizer GαG_α on ΩΩ. The cardinality of an αα-suborbit is called a {\em subdegree} of GG. If the only GG-invariant equivalence classes on ΩΩ are the trivial and universal relations, then GG is said to be a {\em primitive} group of permutations of ΩΩ. In this paper we determine the structure of all primitive permutation groups whose subdegrees are bounded above by a finite cardinal number.
