Lipschitz functions on the infinite-dimensional torus

preprint2014arXivOpen access

Abstract

We discuss the spectrum phenomenon for Lipschitz functions on the infinite-dimensional torus. Suppose that ff is a measurable, real-valued, Lipschitz function on the torus T∞\mathbb{T}^{\infty}. We prove that there exists a number a∈Ra \in \mathbb R with the following property: For any ε>0ε> 0 there exists a parallel, infinite-dimensional subtorus M⊆T∞M \subseteq \mathbb T^{\infty} such that the restriction of the function f−af-a to the subtorus MM has an L∞(M)L^{\infty}(M)-norm of at most εε.
