Generalized Heisenberg algebra, realizations of the $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ algebra and applications

We introduce the generalized Heisenberg algebra appropriate for realizations of the $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ algebra. Linear realizations of the $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ algebra are presented and the corresponding star product, coproduct of momenta and twist are constructed. The dual realization and dual $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ algebra are considered. Finally, we present a general realization of the $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ algebra, the corresponding coproduct of momenta and two classes of twists. These results can be applied to physical theories on noncommutative spaces of the $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ type.

Hopf algebroids with balancing subalgebra

Recently, S. Meljanac proposed a construction of a class of examples of an algebraic structure with properties very close to the Hopf algebroids $H$ over a noncommutative base $A$ of other authors. His examples come along with a subalgebra $\mathcal{B}$ of $H\otimes H$, here called the balancing subalgebra, which contains the image of the coproduct and such that the intersection of $\mathcal{B}$ with the kernel of the projection $H\otimes H\to H\otimes_A H$ is a two-sided ideal in $\mathcal{B}$ which is moreover well behaved with respect to the antipode. We propose a set of abstract axioms covering this construction and make a detailed comparison to the Hopf algebroids of Lu. We prove that every scalar extension Hopf algebroid can be cast into this new set of axioms. We present an observation by G. Böhm that the Hopf algebroids constructed from weak Hopf algebras fit into our framework as well. At the end we discuss the change of balancing subalgebra under Drinfeld-Xu procedure of twisting of associative bialgebroids by invertible 2-cocycles.

A note on symmetric orderings

Let $\hat{A}_n$ be the completion by the degree of a differential operator of the $n$-th Weyl algebra with generators $x_1,\ldots,x_n,\partial^1,\ldots,\partial^n$. Consider $n$ elements $X_1,\ldots,X_n$ in $\hat{A}_n$ of the form $$ X_i = x_i + \sum_{K = 1}^\infty \sum_{l = 1}^n\sum_{j = 1}^n x_l p_{ij}^{K-1,l}(\partial)\partial^j, $$ where $p^{K-1,l}_{ij}(\partial)$ is a degree $(K-1)$ homogeneous polynomial in $\partial^1,\ldots,\partial^n$, antisymmetric in subscripts $i,j$. Then for any natural $k$ and any function $i : \{1,\ldots,k\}\to\{1,\ldots,n\}$ we prove $$ \sum_{σ\in Σ(k)} X_{i_{σ(1)}}\cdots X_{i_{σ(k)}}\triangleright 1 = k! \,x_{i_1}\cdots x_{i_k}, $$ where $Σ(k)$ is the symmetric group on $k$ letters and $\triangleright$ denotes the Fock action of the $\hat{A}_n$ on the space of (commutative) polynomials.

Interpolations between Jordanian twists, the Poincaré-Weyl algebra and dispersion relations

We consider a two parameter family of Drinfeld twists generated from a simple Jordanian twist further twisted by 1-cochains. Twists from this family interpolate between two simple Jordanian twists. Relations between them are constructed and discussed. It is proved that there exists a one parameter family of twists identical to a simple Jordanian twist. The twisted coalgebra, star product and coordinate realizations of the $κ$-Minkowski noncommutative space time are presented. Real forms of Jordanian deformations are also discussed. The method of similarity transformations is applied to the Poincaré-Weyl Hopf algebra and two types of one parameter families of dispersion relations are constructed. Mathematically equivalent deformations, that are related to nonlinear changes of symmetry generators and linked with similarity maps, may lead to differences in the description of physical phenomena.

Twisted exterior derivatives for universal enveloping algebras I

Consider any representation $ϕ$ of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $g$ by derivations of the completed symmetric algebra $\hat{S}(g^*)$ of its dual. Consider the tensor product of $\hat{S}(g^*)$ and the exterior algebra $Λ(g)$. We show that the representation $ϕ$ extends canonically to the representation $\tildeϕ$ of that tensor product algebra. We construct an exterior derivative on that algebra, giving rise to a twisted version of the exterior differential calculus with the enveloping algebra in the role of the coordinate algebra. In this twisted version, the commutators between the noncommutative differentials and coordinates are formal power series in partial derivatives. The square of the corresponding exterior derivative is zero like in the classical case, but the Leibniz rule is deformed.

Lie algebra type noncommutative phase spaces are Hopf algebroids

For a noncommutative configuration space whose coordinate algebra is the universal enveloping algebra of a finite dimensional Lie algebra, it is known how to introduce an extension playing the role of the corresponding noncommutative phase space, namely by adding the commuting deformed derivatives in a consistent and nontrivial way, therefore obtaining certain deformed Heisenberg algebra. This algebra has been studied in physical contexts, mainly in the case of the kappa-Minkowski space-time. Here we equip the entire phase space algebra with a coproduct, so that it becomes an instance of a completed variant of a Hopf algebroid over a noncommutative base, where the base is the enveloping algebra.

Exponential Formulas and Lie Algebra Type Star Products

Given formal differential operators $F_i$ on polynomial algebra in several variables $x_1,...,x_n$, we discuss finding expressions $K_l$ determined by the equation $\exp(\sum_i x_i F_i)(\exp(\sum_j q_j x_j)) = \exp(\sum_l K_l x_l)$ and their applications. The expressions for $K_l$ are related to the coproducts for deformed momenta for the noncommutative space-times of Lie algebra type and also appear in the computations with a class of star products. We find combinatorial recursions and derive formal differential equations for finding $K_l$. We elaborate an example for a Lie algebra $su(2)$, related to a quantum gravity application from the literature.

Čech cocycles for quantum principal bundles

In other to study connections and gauge theories on noncommutative spaces it is useful to use the local trivializations of principal bundles. In this note we show how to use noncommutative localization theory to describe a simple version of cocycle data for the bundles on noncommutative schemes with Hopf algebras in the role of the structure group which locally look like Hopf algebraic smash products. We also show how to use these Čech cocycles for associated vector bundles. We sketch briefly some examples related to quantum groups.

Heisenberg double versus deformed derivatives

Two approaches to the tangent space of a noncommutative space whose coordinate algebra is the enveloping algebra of a Lie algebra are known: the Heisenberg double construction and the approach via deformed derivatives, usually defined by procedures involving orderings among noncommutative coordinates or equivalently involving realizations via formal differential operators. In an earlier work, we rephrased the deformed derivative approach introducing certain smash product algebra twisting a semicompleted Weyl algebra. We show here that the Heisenberg double in the Lie algebra case, is isomorphic to that product in a nontrivial way, involving a datum $ϕ$ parametrizing the orderings or realizations in other approaches. This way, we show that the two different formalisms, used by different communities, for introducing the noncommutative phase space for the Lie algebra type noncommutative spaces are mathematically equivalent.

Categorified symmetries

Quantum field theory allows more general symmetries than groups and Lie algebras. For instance quantum groups, that is Hopf algebras, have been familiar to theoretical physicists for a while now. Nowdays many examples of symmetries of categorical flavor -- categorical groups, groupoids, Lie algebroids and their higher analogues -- appear in physically motivated constructions and faciliate constructions of geometrically sound models and quantization of field theories. Here we consider two flavours of categorified symmetries: one coming from noncommutative algebraic geometry where varieties themselves are replaced by suitable categories of sheaves; another in which the gauge groups are categorified to higher groupoids. Together with their gauge groups, also the fiber bundles themselves become categorified, and their gluing (or descent data) is given by nonabelian cocycles, generalizing group cohomology, where infinity-groupoids appear in the role both of the domain and the coefficient object. Such cocycles in particular represent higher principal bundles, gerbes, -- possibly equivariant, possibly with connection -- as well as the corresponding associated higher vector bundles. We show how the Hopf algebra known as the Drinfeld double arises in this context. This article is an expansion of a talk that the second author gave at the 5th Summer School of Modern Mathematical Physics in 2008.

Leibniz rules for enveloping algebras in symmetric ordering

Given a finite-dimensional Lie algebra, and a representation by derivations on the completed symmetric algebra of its dual, a number of interesting twisted constructions appear: certain twisted Weyl algebras, deformed Leibniz rules, quantized ``star'' product. We first illuminate a number of interrelations between these constructions and then proceed to study a special case in certain precise sense corresponding to the symmetric or Weyl ordering. This case has been known earlier to be related to computations with Hausdorff series, for example the expression for the star product is in such terms. For the deformed Leibniz rule, hence a coproduct, we present here a new nonsymmetric expression, which is then expanded into a sum of expressions labelled by a class of planar trees, and for a given tree evaluated by Feynman-like rules. These expressions are filtered by a bidegree and we show recursion formulas for the sums of expressions of a given bidegree, and compare the recursions to recursions for Hausdorff series, including the comparison of initial conditions. This way we show a direct corespondence between the Hausdorff series and the expression for twisted coproduct.
