$Υ$ absorption in hadronic matter

The cross sections of $Υ$ absorption by $π$ and $ρ$ mesons are evaluated in a meson-exchange model. Including form factors with a cutoff parameter of 1 or 2 GeV, we find that due to the large threshold of these reactions the thermal average of their cross sections is only about 0.2 mb at a temperature of 150 MeV. Our results thus suggest that the absorption of directly produced $Υ$ by hadronic comovers in high energy heavy ion collisions is unimportant.

Enhancement of Intermediate Mass Dileptons From Charm Decays At SPS Energies

We study the dimuon yield from open charm decays in the intermediate mass region(IMR) in heavy-ion collisions at the CERN-SPS energy. We find that final state rescatterings which broaden the $m_T$ spectrum of charmed mesons can enrich the part of the phase space covered by the NA50 experiment, thus leading to an apparent enhancement of IMR dileptons within the acceptance of the experiment. Such an enhancement increases with the dimuon invariant mass and the single muon energy cut-off.

Open Charm as a Probe of Pre-Equilibrium Dynamics in Nuclear Collisions?

The pre-equilibrium contribution to open charm production in nuclear collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ AGeV is calculated using three different models for the correlations between momentum and space-time coordinates. Ideal (Bjorken) correlation between the rapidity $y$ and space-time rapidity $η$ of mini-jet gluons suppresses greatly the pre-equilibrium yield and even allowing for the minimal uncertainty correlations leads, in contrast to previous estimates, only to a small pre-equilibrium charm yield as compared to initial yield due to gluon fusion. The ``intrinsic'' charm process is negligible in the mid-rapidity domain.
