Rubik's Cube Operator: A Plug And Play Permutation Module for Better Arranging High Dimensional Industrial Data in Deep Convolutional Processes

The convolutional neural network (CNN) has been widely applied to process the industrial data based tensor input, which integrates data records of distributed industrial systems from the spatial, temporal, and system dynamics aspects. However, unlike images, information in the industrial data based tensor is not necessarily spatially ordered. Thus, directly applying CNN is ineffective. To tackle such issue, we propose a plug and play module, the Rubik's Cube Operator (RCO), to adaptively permutate the data organization of the industrial data based tensor to an optimal or suboptimal order of attributes before being processed by CNNs, which can be updated with subsequent CNNs together via the gradient-based optimizer. The proposed RCO maintains K binary and right stochastic permutation matrices to permutate attributes of K axes of the input industrial data based tensor. A novel learning process is proposed to enable learning permutation matrices from data, where the Gumbel-Softmax is employed to reparameterize elements of permutation matrices, and the soft regularization loss is proposed and added to the task-specific loss to ensure the feature diversity of the permuted data. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed RCO via considering two representative learning tasks processing industrial data via CNNs, the wind power prediction (WPP) and the wind speed prediction (WSP) from the renewable energy domain. Computational experiments are conducted based on four datasets collected from different wind farms and the results demonstrate that the proposed RCO can improve the performance of CNN based networks significantly.

Secure UAV-to-Ground MIMO Communications: Joint Transceiver and Location Optimization

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are foreseen to constitute promising airborne communication devices as a benefit of their superior channel quality. But UAV-to-ground (U2G) communications are vulnerable to eavesdropping. Hence, we conceive a sophisticated physical layer security solution for improving the secrecy rate of multi-antenna aided U2G systems. Explicitly, the secrecy rate of the U2G MIMO wiretap channels is derived by using random matrix theory. The resultant explicit expression is then applied in the joint optimization of the MIMO transceiver and the UAV location relying on an alternating optimization technique. Our numerical results show that the joint transceiver and location optimization conceived facilitates secure communications even in the challenging scenario, where the legitimate channel of confidential information is inferior to the eavesdropping channel.

Latency Analysis of Multiple Classes of AVB Traffic in TSN with Standard Credit Behavior using Network Calculus

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is a set of amendments that extend Ethernet to support distributed safety-critical and real-time applications in the industrial automation, aerospace and automotive areas. TSN integrates multiple traffic types and supports interactions in several combinations. In this paper we consider the configuration supporting Scheduled Traffic (ST) traffic scheduled based on Gate-Control-Lists (GCLs), Audio-Video-Bridging (AVB) traffic according to IEEE 802.1BA that has bounded latencies, and Best-Effort (BE) traffic, for which no guarantees are provided. The paper extends the timing analysis method to multiple AVB classes and proofs the credit bounds for multiple classes of AVB traffic, respectively under frozen and non-frozen behaviors of credit during guard band (GB). They are prerequisites for non-overflow credits of Credit-Based Shaper (CBS) and preventing starvation of AVB traffic. Moreover, this paper proposes an improved timing analysis method reducing the pessimism for the worst-case end-to-end delays of AVB traffic by considering the limitations from the physical link rate and the output of CBS. Finally, we evaluate the improved analysis method on both synthetic and real-world test cases, showing the significant reduction of pessimism on latency bounds compared to related work, and presenting the correctness validation compared with simulation results. We also compare the AVB latency bounds in the case of frozen and non-frozen credit during GB. Additionally, we evaluate the scalability of our method with variation of the load of ST flows and of the bandwidth reservation for AVB traffic.

Asymptotic Analysis of Multi-Antenna Cognitive Radio Systems Using Extreme Value Theory

We consider a spectrum-sharing cognitive radio system with antenna selection applied at the secondary transmitter (ST). Based on the extreme value theory, we deduce a simple and accurate expression for the asymptotic distribution of the signal to interference plus noise ratio at the secondary receiver. Using this result, the asymptotic mean capacity and the outage capacity for the secondary user (SU) are derived. The obtained asymptotic capacities approach the exact results as the number of transmit antennas $N$ increases. Results indicate that the rate of the SU scales as $\log(N)$ when the transmit power of the ST is limited by the maximum allowable interference level, while rate scales as $\log(\log(N))$ if ST is limited by the maximum transmit power.

On the Outage Capacity of Orthogonal Space-time Block Codes Over Multi-cluster Scattering MIMO Channels

Multiple cluster scattering MIMO channel is a useful model for pico-cellular MIMO networks. In this paper, orthogonal space-time block coded transmission over such a channel is considered, where the effective channel equals the product of n complex Gaussian matrices. A simple and accurate closed-form approximation to the channel outage capacity has been derived in this setting. The result is valid for an arbitrary number of clusters n-1 of scatterers and an arbitrary antenna configuration. Numerical results are provided to study the relative outage performance between the multi-cluster and the Rayleigh-fading MIMO channels for which n=1.

A Blind Time-Reversal Detector in the Presence of Channel Correlation

A blind target detector using the time reversal transmission is proposed in the presence of channel correlation. We calculate the exact moments of the test statistics involved. The derived moments are used to construct an accurate approximative Likelihood Ratio Test (LRT) based on multivariate Edgeworth expansion. Performance gain over an existing detector is observed in scenarios with channel correlation and relatively strong target signal.

Approximation to Distribution of Product of Random Variables Using Orthogonal Polynomials for Lognormal Density

We derive a closed-form expression for the orthogonal polynomials associated with the general lognormal density. The result can be utilized to construct easily computable approximations for probability density function of a product of random variables, when the considered variates are either independent or correlated. As an example, we have calculated the approximative distribution for the product of Nakagami-m variables. Simulations indicate that accuracy of the proposed approximation is good with small cross-correlations under light fading condition.
