Matching Book Thickness of Halin Graphs

The \emph{matching book embedding} of a graph $G$ is to arrange its vertices on the spine, and draw its edges into the pages so that the edges on every page do not intersect each other and the maximum degree of vertices on every page is one. The \emph{matching book thickness} is the minimum number of pages in which the graph $G$ can be matching embedded. In this paper, the matching book thickness of Halin graphs is determined.

The Matching Book Embedding of Biconnected Outerplanar Graphs

The $n$-$book ~embedding$ of a graph $G$ is an embedding of the graph $G$ in an $n$-book with the vertices of $G$ on the spine and each edge to the pages without crossing each other. If the degree of vertices of $G$ at most one in each page, the $n$-book embedding is $matching$. The $matching~ book~ thickness$ of graph $G$ is the smallest $n$ so that $G$ can be matching embedded in an $n$-book. In this paper, the matching book thickness of the biconnected outerplanar graphs is determined.

Embedding the Complete Expansion Graph in Books

A book embedding of a graph consists of an embedding of its vertices along the spine of a book, and an embedding of its edges on the pages such that edges embedded on the same page do not intersect. The pagenumber is the minimum number of pages in which the graph $G$ can be embedded. The main purpose of this paper is to study the book embedding of the complete expansion graph. This is the first work about it, and some exact pagenumbers of the complete expansion graphs of some special graphs are obtained.

Solving the "Magic Angle" Challenge in Determining Molecular Orientation at Interfaces

We introduce a novel method to determine the orientation heterogeneity (mean tilt angle and orientational distribution) of molecules at interfaces using heterodyne two-dimensional sum frequency generation spectroscopy. By doing so, we not only have solved the long-standing "magic angle" challenge, i.e. the measurement of molecular orientation by assuming a narrow orientational distribution results in ambiguities, but we also are able to determine the orientational distribution, which is otherwise difficult to measure. We applied our new method to a CO2 reduction catalyst/gold interface and found that the catalysts formed a monolayer with a mean tilt angle between the quasi-C3 symmetric axis of the catalysts and the surface normal of 53 deg, with 5 deg orientational distribution. Although applied to a specific system, this method is a general way to determine the orientation heterogeneity of an ensemble-averaged molecular interface, which can potentially be applied to a wide-range of energy material, catalytic and biological interfaces.

BigDataBench: a Big Data Benchmark Suite from Web Search Engines

This paper presents our joint research efforts on big data benchmarking with several industrial partners. Considering the complexity, diversity, workload churns, and rapid evolution of big data systems, we take an incremental approach in big data benchmarking. For the first step, we pay attention to search engines, which are the most important domain in Internet services in terms of the number of page views and daily visitors. However, search engine service providers treat data, applications, and web access logs as business confidentiality, which prevents us from building benchmarks. To overcome those difficulties, with several industry partners, we widely investigated the open source solutions in search engines, and obtained the permission of using anonymous Web access logs. Moreover, with two years' great efforts, we created a sematic search engine named ProfSearch (available from http://prof.ict.ac.cn). These efforts pave the path for our big data benchmark suite from search engines---BigDataBench, which is released on the web page (http://prof.ict.ac.cn/BigDataBench). We report our detailed analysis of search engine workloads, and present our benchmarking methodology. An innovative data generation methodology and tool are proposed to generate scalable volumes of big data from a small seed of real data, preserving semantics and locality of data. Also, we preliminarily report two case studies using BigDataBench for both system and architecture researches.
