A Series Solution to the Luminosity Distance in a Flat LCDM Universe

Cosmological observations indicate that our universe is flat and dark energy (DE) dominated at present. The luminosity distance plays an important role in the investigation of the evolution and structure of the universe. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the luminosity distance d_L is associated computationally heavy numerical quadratures in practice. In this Letter we find a series solution of the luminosity distance in a spatially flat LCDM cosmological model. And it is further shown that the series solution has a relative error of less than 0.36% for any relative parameter β(β= Omega_m / Omega_L) from zero to four, i.e. 0.2 < Omega_L < 1 and redshift z > 0.1 when the order of the series is n = 100.

Quadrature algorithms to the luminosity distance with a time-dependent dark energy model

In our previous work, we have proposed two methods for computing the luminosity distance d_{L}^Λ in LCDM model. In this paper, two effective quadrature algorithms, known as Romberg Integration and composite Gaussian Quadrature, are presented to calculate the luminosity distance d_{L}^{CPL} in the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization(CPL) model. By comparing the efficiency and accuracy of the two algorithms, we find that the second is more promising. Moreover, we develop another strategy adapted for approximating d_{L}^Λ in flat LCDM universe. To some extent, our methods can make contributions to the recent numerical stimulation for the investigation of dark energy cosmology.

Numerical Strategies of Computing the Luminosity Distance

We propose two efficient numerical methods of evaluating the luminosity distance in the spatially flat ΛCDM universe. The first method is based on the Carlson symmetric form of elliptic integrals, which is highly accurate and can replace numerical quadratures. The second method, using a modified version of Hermite interpolation, is less accurate but involves only basic numerical operations and can be easily implemented. We compare our methods with other numerical approximation schemes and explore their respective features and limitations. Possible extensions of these methods to other cosmological models are also discussed.

Strong Lensing Probabilities in a Cosmological Model with a Running Primordial Power Spectrum

The combination of the first-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data with other finer scale cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments (CBI and ACBAR) and two structure formation measurements (2dFGRS and Lyman $α$ forest) suggest a $Λ$CDM cosmological model with a running spectral power index of primordial density fluctuations. Motivated by this new result on the index of primordial power spectrum, we present the first study on the predicted lensing probabilities of image separation in a spatially flat $Λ$CDM model with a running spectral index (RSI-$Λ$CDM model). It is shown that the RSI-$Λ$CDM model suppress the predicted lensing probabilities on small splitting angles of less than about 4$^{''}$ compared with that of standard power-law $Λ$CDM (PL-$Λ$CDM) model.
