Computing the luminosity distance via optimal homotopy perturbation method

We propose a new algorithm for computing the luminosity distance in the flat universe with a cosmological constant based on Shchigolev's homotopy perturbation method, where the optimization idea is applied to prevent the arbitrariness of initial value choice in Shchigolev's homotopy. Compared with the some existing numerical methods, the result of numerical simulation shows that our algorithm is a very promising and powerful technique for computing the luminosity distance, which has obvious advantages in computational accuracy, computing efficiency and robustness for a given {Ω_m}.

New Generalizations of Cosmography Inspired by the Pade Approximant

The current accelerated expansion of the universe has been one of the most important fields in physics and astronomy since 1998. Many cosmological models have been proposed in the literature to explain this mysterious phenomenon. Since the nature and cause of the cosmic acceleration are still unknown, model-independent approaches to study the evolution of the universe are welcome. One of the powerful model-independent approaches is the so-called cosmography. It only relies on the cosmological principle, without postulating any underlying theoretical model. However, there are several shortcomings in the usual cosmography. For instance, it is plagued with the problem of divergence (or an unacceptably large error), and it fails to predict the future evolution of the universe. In the present work, we try to overcome or at least alleviate these problems, and we propose two new generalizations of cosmography inspired by the Padé approximant. One is to directly parameterize the luminosity distance based on the Padé approximant, while the other is to generalize cosmography with respect to a so-called $y_β$-shift $y_β=z/(1+βz)$, which is also inspired by the Padé approximant. Then, we confront them with the observational data with the help of the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) code emcee, and find that they work fairly well.

Age Problem in Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi Void Models

As is well known, one can explain the current cosmic acceleration by considering an inhomogeneous and/or anisotropic universe (which violates the cosmological principle), without invoking dark energy or modified gravity. The well-known one of this kind of models is the so-called Lema\^ıtre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) void model, in which the universe is spherically symmetric and radially inhomogeneous, and we are living in a locally underdense void centered nearby our location. In the present work, we test various LTB void models with some old high redshift objects (OHROs). Obviously, the universe cannot be younger than its constituents. We find that an unusually large $r_0$ (characterizing the size of the void) is required to accommodate these OHROs in LTB void models. There is a serious tension between this unusually large $r_0$ and the much smaller $r_0$ inferred from other observations (e.g. SNIa, CMB and so on). However, if we instead consider the lowest limit 1.7\,Gyr for the quasar APM 08279+5255 at redshift $z=3.91$, this tension could be greatly alleviated.

Preliminary Application of Reinsch Splines to Cosmology: Transition Redshift Determination with Simulated OHD

Many schemes have been proposed to perform a model-independent constraint on cosmological dynamics, such as nonparametric dark energy equation of state (EoS) ω(z) or the deceleration parameter q(z). These methods usually contain derivative processes with respect to observational data with noise. However, it still remains remarkably uncertain when one estimates the numerical differentiation, especially the corresponding truncation errors. In this work, we introduce a global numerical differentiation method, first formulated by Reinsch(1967), which is smoothed by cubic spline functions. The optimal solution is obtained by minimizing the functional Φ(f). To investigate the potential of the algorithm further, we apply it to the estimation of the transition redshift z_{t} with simulated expansion rate E(z) based on observational Hubble parameter data(OHD). An effective method to determine the free parameter S appearing in Reinsch Splines is provided.

A Series Solution to the Luminosity Distance in a Flat LCDM Universe

Cosmological observations indicate that our universe is flat and dark energy (DE) dominated at present. The luminosity distance plays an important role in the investigation of the evolution and structure of the universe. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the luminosity distance d_L is associated computationally heavy numerical quadratures in practice. In this Letter we find a series solution of the luminosity distance in a spatially flat LCDM cosmological model. And it is further shown that the series solution has a relative error of less than 0.36% for any relative parameter β(β= Omega_m / Omega_L) from zero to four, i.e. 0.2 < Omega_L < 1 and redshift z > 0.1 when the order of the series is n = 100.

Quadrature algorithms to the luminosity distance with a time-dependent dark energy model

In our previous work, we have proposed two methods for computing the luminosity distance d_{L}^Λ in LCDM model. In this paper, two effective quadrature algorithms, known as Romberg Integration and composite Gaussian Quadrature, are presented to calculate the luminosity distance d_{L}^{CPL} in the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization(CPL) model. By comparing the efficiency and accuracy of the two algorithms, we find that the second is more promising. Moreover, we develop another strategy adapted for approximating d_{L}^Λ in flat LCDM universe. To some extent, our methods can make contributions to the recent numerical stimulation for the investigation of dark energy cosmology.

Numerical Strategies of Computing the Luminosity Distance

We propose two efficient numerical methods of evaluating the luminosity distance in the spatially flat ΛCDM universe. The first method is based on the Carlson symmetric form of elliptic integrals, which is highly accurate and can replace numerical quadratures. The second method, using a modified version of Hermite interpolation, is less accurate but involves only basic numerical operations and can be easily implemented. We compare our methods with other numerical approximation schemes and explore their respective features and limitations. Possible extensions of these methods to other cosmological models are also discussed.
