A Breast Vision Pathology Foundation Model for Real-world Clinical Utility

Pathology foundation models have shown strong retrospective performance, but whether such systems can support clinically relevant use remains unclear. This challenge is particularly important in breast cancer, where pathological assessment serves as the gold standard for diagnosis and guides treatment planning, surgical decision-making and risk stratification across pre-, intra- and post-operative stages. Here we present \textbf{BRAVE}, a breast-adaptive pathology foundation model developed and evaluated using a total resource of 101,638 breast whole-slide images from 32 sources across Asia, Europe and North America. We assessed BRAVE across 34 tasks in 82 cohorts spanning pre-operative biopsy, intra-operative frozen section and post-operative resection, using an evidence chain comprising retrospective benchmarking, clinically challenging scenarios, workflow-oriented clinical impact simulations, prospective observational validation with the thresholds locked in the retrospective cohorts and crossover pathologist-AI interaction studies. Across these settings, BRAVE supported practical roles in the clinical workflow, including safe exclusion of low-risk cases from routine review, AI-assisted second-review rescue of initially missed positives and prioritization of cases for further assessment. In prospective validation across three centres, BRAVE excluded 76.9% of negative biopsy cases (NPV 0.953) and 70.1% of negative frozen-section cases (NPV 0.973), and triaged 78.8% of post-operative subtyping cases as high-confidence clear-cut cases (NPV 1.000). In reader studies, AI assistance improved balanced accuracy from 88.5% to 95.1% (OR 3.14, P<0.001), with better efficiency, confidence and inter-rater agreement. BRAVE-derived scores also independently predicted disease-free survival (adjusted HR 4.79, P<0.001) and overall survival (adjusted HR 8.14, P<0.001).

Artificial Intelligence Empowered Channel Prediction: A New Paradigm for Propagation Channel Modeling

This paper proposes a novel paradigm centered on Artificial Intelligence (AI)-empowered propagation channel prediction to address the limitations of traditional channel modeling. We present a comprehensive framework that deeply integrates heterogeneous environmental data and physical propagation knowledge into AI models for site-specific channel prediction, which referred to as channel inference. By leveraging AI to infer site-specific wireless channel states, the proposed paradigm enables accurate prediction of channel characteristics at both link and area levels, capturing spatio-temporal evolution of radio propagation. Some novel strategies to realize the paradigm are introduced and discussed, including AI-native and AI-hybrid inference approaches. This paper also investigates how to enhance model generalization through transfer learning and improve interpretability via explainable AI techniques. Our approach demonstrates significant practical efficacy, achieving an average path loss prediction root mean square error (RMSE) of $\sim$ 4 dB and reducing training time by 60\%-75\%. This new modeling paradigm provides a foundational pathway toward high-fidelity, generalizable, and physically consistent propagation channel prediction for future communication networks.

A Class-wise Non-salient Region Generalized Framework for Video Semantic Segmentation

Video semantic segmentation (VSS) is beneficial for dealing with dynamic scenes due to the continuous property of the real-world environment. On the one hand, some methods alleviate the predicted inconsistent problem between continuous frames. On the other hand, other methods employ the previous frame as the prior information to assist in segmenting the current frame. Although the previous methods achieve superior performances on the independent and identically distributed (i.i.d) data, they can not generalize well on other unseen domains. Thus, we explore a new task, the video generalizable semantic segmentation (VGSS) task that considers both continuous frames and domain generalization. In this paper, we propose a class-wise non-salient region generalized (CNSG) framework for the VGSS task. Concretely, we first define the class-wise non-salient feature, which describes features of the class-wise non-salient region that carry more generalizable information. Then, we propose a class-wise non-salient feature reasoning strategy to select and enhance the most generalized channels adaptively. Finally, we propose an inter-frame non-salient centroid alignment loss to alleviate the predicted inconsistent problem in the VGSS task. We also extend our video-based framework to the image-based generalizable semantic segmentation (IGSS) task. Experiments demonstrate that our CNSG framework yields significant improvement in the VGSS and IGSS tasks.

Guaranteed Fixed-Confidence Best Arm Identification in Multi-Armed Bandits: Simple Sequential Elimination Algorithms

We consider the problem of finding, through adaptive sampling, which of $n$ options (arms) has the largest mean. Our objective is to determine a rule which identifies the best arm with a fixed minimum confidence using as few observations as possible, i.e. this is a fixed-confidence (FC) best arm identification (BAI) in multi-armed bandits. We study such problems under the Bayesian setting with both Bernoulli and Gaussian arms. We propose to use the classical &#34;vector at a time&#34; (VT) rule, which samples each remaining arm once in each round. We show how VT can be implemented and analyzed in our Bayesian setting and be improved by early elimination. Our analysis show that these algorithms guarantee an optimal strategy under the prior. We also propose and analyze a variant of the classical &#34;play the winner&#34; (PW) algorithm. Numerical results show that these rules compare favorably with state-of-art algorithms.

Joint COCO and Mapillary Workshop at ICCV 2019 Keypoint Detection Challenge Track Technical Report: Distribution-Aware Coordinate Representation for Human Pose Estimation

In this paper, we focus on the coordinate representation in human pose estimation. While being the standard choice, heatmap based representation has not been systematically investigated. We found that the process of coordinate decoding (i.e. transforming the predicted heatmaps to the coordinates) is surprisingly significant for human pose estimation performance, which nevertheless was not recognised before. In light of the discovered importance, we further probe the design limitations of the standard coordinate decoding method and propose a principled distribution-aware decoding method. Meanwhile, we improve the standard coordinate encoding process (i.e. transforming ground-truth coordinates to heatmaps) by generating accurate heatmap distributions for unbiased model training. Taking them together, we formulate a novel Distribution-Aware coordinate Representation for Keypoint (DARK) method. Serving as a model-agnostic plug-in, DARK significantly improves the performance of a variety of state-of-the-art human pose estimation models. Extensive experiments show that DARK yields the best results on COCO keypoint detection challenge, validating the usefulness and effectiveness of our novel coordinate representation idea.
