Dual spaces to Orlicz - Lorentz spaces

For an Orlicz function φφ and a decreasing weight ww, two intrinsic exact descriptions are presented for the norm in the Köthe dual of an Orlicz-Lorentz function space Λφ,wΛ_{φ,w} or a sequence space λφ,wλ_{φ,w}, equipped with either Luxemburg or Amemiya norms. The first description of the dual norm is given via the modular inf⁡{∫φ∗(f∗/∣g∣)∣g∣:g≺w}\inf\{\intφ_*(f^*/|g|)|g|: g\prec w\}, where f∗f^* is the decreasing rearrangement of ff, g≺wg\prec w denotes the submajorization of gg by ww and φ∗φ_* is the complementary function to φφ. The second one is stated in terms of the modular ∫Iφ∗((f∗)0/w)w\int_I φ_*((f^*)^0/w)w, where (f∗)0(f^*)^0 is Halperin's level function of f∗f^* with respect to ww. That these two descriptions are equivalent results from the identity inf⁡{∫ψ(f∗/∣g∣)∣g∣:g≺w}=∫Iψ((f∗)0/w)w\inf\{\intψ(f^*/|g|)|g|: g\prec w\}=\int_I ψ((f^*)^0/w)w valid for any measurable function ff and Orlicz function ψψ. Analogous identity and dual representations are also presented for sequence spaces.

New formulas for decreasing rearrangements and a class of Orlicz-Lorentz spaces

Using a nonlinear version of the well known Hardy-Littlewood inequalities, we derive new formulas for decreasing rearrangements of functions and sequences in the context of convex functions. We use these formulas for deducing several properties of the modular functionals defining the function and sequence spaces Mφ,wM_{φ,w} and mφ,wm_{φ,w} respectively, introduced earlier in \cite{HKM} for describing the Köthe dual of ordinary Orlicz-Lorentz spaces in a large variety of cases (φφ is an Orlicz function and ww a {\it decreasing} weight). We study these Mφ,wM_{φ,w} classes in the most general setting, where they may even not be linear, and identify their Köthe duals with ordinary (Banach) Orlicz-Lorentz spaces. We introduce a new class of rearrangement invariant Banach spaces Mφ,w\mathcal{M}_{φ,w} which proves to be the Köthe biduals of the Mφ,wM_{φ,w} classes. In the case when the class Mφ,wM_{φ,w} is a separable quasi-Banach space, Mφ,w\mathcal{M}_{φ,w} is its Banach envelope.
