Efficient Video Deblurring Guided by Motion Magnitude

Video deblurring is a highly under-constrained problem due to the spatially and temporally varying blur. An intuitive approach for video deblurring includes two steps: a) detecting the blurry region in the current frame; b) utilizing the information from clear regions in adjacent frames for current frame deblurring. To realize this process, our idea is to detect the pixel-wise blur level of each frame and combine it with video deblurring. To this end, we propose a novel framework that utilizes the motion magnitude prior (MMP) as guidance for efficient deep video deblurring. Specifically, as the pixel movement along its trajectory during the exposure time is positively correlated to the level of motion blur, we first use the average magnitude of optical flow from the high-frequency sharp frames to generate the synthetic blurry frames and their corresponding pixel-wise motion magnitude maps. We then build a dataset including the blurry frame and MMP pairs. The MMP is then learned by a compact CNN by regression. The MMP consists of both spatial and temporal blur level information, which can be further integrated into an efficient recurrent neural network (RNN) for video deblurring. We conduct intensive experiments to validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods on the public datasets.

Learning Pseudo Front Depth for 2D Forward-Looking Sonar-based Multi-view Stereo

Retrieving the missing dimension information in acoustic images from 2D forward-looking sonar is a well-known problem in the field of underwater robotics. There are works attempting to retrieve 3D information from a single image which allows the robot to generate 3D maps with fly-through motion. However, owing to the unique image formulation principle, estimating 3D information from a single image faces severe ambiguity problems. Classical methods of multi-view stereo can avoid the ambiguity problems, but may require a large number of viewpoints to generate an accurate model. In this work, we propose a novel learning-based multi-view stereo method to estimate 3D information. To better utilize the information from multiple frames, an elevation plane sweeping method is proposed to generate the depth-azimuth-elevation cost volume. The volume after regularization can be considered as a probabilistic volumetric representation of the target. Instead of performing regression on the elevation angles, we use pseudo front depth from the cost volume to represent the 3D information which can avoid the 2D-3D problem in acoustic imaging. High-accuracy results can be generated with only two or three images. Synthetic datasets were generated to simulate various underwater targets. We also built the first real dataset with accurate ground truth in a large scale water tank. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our method, compared to other state-of-the-art methods.

GM-Livox: An Integrated Framework for Large-Scale Map Construction with Multiple Non-repetitive Scanning LiDARs

With the ability of providing direct and accurate enough range measurements, light detection and ranging (LiDAR) is playing an essential role in localization and detection for autonomous vehicles. Since single LiDAR suffers from hardware failure and performance degradation intermittently, we present a multi-LiDAR integration scheme in this article. Our framework tightly couples multiple non-repetitive scanning LiDARs with inertial, encoder, and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) into pose estimation and simultaneous global map generation. Primarily, we formulate a precise synchronization strategy to integrate isolated sensors, and the extracted feature points from separate LiDARs are merged into a single sweep. The fused scans are introduced to compute the scan-matching correspondences, which can be further refined by additional real-time kinematic (RTK) measurements. Based thereupon, we construct a factor graph along with the inertial preintegration result, estimated ground constraints, and RTK data. For the purpose of maintaining a restricted number of poses for estimation, we deploy a keyframe based sliding-window optimization strategy in our system. The real-time performance is guaranteed with multi-threaded computation, and extensive experiments are conducted in challenging scenarios. Experimental results show that the utilization of multiple LiDARs boosts the system performance in both robustness and accuracy.

Quasi-convex subsets in Alexandrov spaces with lower curvature bound

In this paper, we introduce quasi-convex subsets in Alxandrov spaces with lower curvature bound, which include not only all closed convex subsets without boundary but also all extremal subsets. Moreover, we explore several essential properties of such kind of subsets including a generalized Liberman theorem. It turns out that the quasi-convex subset is a nice and fundamental concept to illustrate the similarities and differences between Riemannian manifolds and Alxandrov spaces with lower curvature bound.

An Isometrical CPn{\Bbb C\Bbb P}^{n}-Theorem

Let Mn (n≥3)M^n\ (n\geq3) be a complete Riemannian manifold with sec⁡M≥1\sec_M\geq 1, and let MiniM_i^{n_i} (i=1,2i=1,2) be two comlplete totally geodesic submanifolds in MM. We prove that if n1+n2=n−2n_1+n_2=n-2 and if the distance ∣M1M2∣≥π2|M_1M_2|\geq\fracπ{2}, then MiM_i is isometric to Sni/Zh\Bbb S^{n_i}/\Bbb Z_h, CPni2{\Bbb C\Bbb P}^{\frac {n_i}2} or CPni2/Z2{\Bbb C\Bbb P}^{\frac {n_i}2}/\Bbb Z_2 with the canonical metric when ni>0n_i>0, and thus MM is isometric to Sn/Zh\Bbb S^n/\Bbb Z_h, CPn2{\Bbb C\Bbb P}^{\frac n2} or CPn2/Z2{\Bbb C\Bbb P}^{\frac n2}/\Bbb Z_2 except possibly when n=3n=3 and M1M_1 (or M2M_2) ≅isoS1/Zh\stackrel{\rm iso}{\cong}\Bbb S^{1}/\Bbb Z_h with h≥2h\geq 2 or n=4n=4 and M1M_1 (or M2M_2) ≅isoRP2\stackrel{\rm iso}{\cong}\Bbb{RP}^2.

Finite Quotient of Join in Alexandrov Geometry

Given two nin_i-dimensional Alexandrov spaces XiX_i of curvature ≥1\ge 1, the join of X1X_1 and X2X_2 is an (n1+n2+1)(n_1+n_2+1)-dimensional Alexandrov space XX of curvature ≥1\ge 1, which contains XiX_i as convex subsets such that their points are π2\frac \pi2 apart. If a group acts isometrically on a join that preserves XiX_i, then the orbit space is called quotient of join. We show that an nn-dimensional Alexandrov space XX with curvature ≥1\ge 1 is isometric to a finite quotient of join, if XX contains two compact convex subsets XiX_i without boundary such that X1X_1 and X2X_2 are at least π2\frac \pi2 apart and dim⁡(X1)+dim⁡(X2)=n−1\dim(X_1)+\dim(X_2)=n-1.

On the Blaschke's Conjecture

The Blaschke's conjecture asserts that if $\diam(M)=\text{Inj}(M)=\frac\pi2$ (up to a rescaling) for a complete Riemannian manifold MM, then MM is isometric to Sn(12)\Bbb S^n(\frac12), RPn{\Bbb R\Bbb P}^{n}, CPn{\Bbb C\Bbb P}^{n}, HPn{\Bbb H\Bbb P}^{n} or CaP2{\Bbb Ca\Bbb P}^{2} endowed with the canonical metric. In the paper, we prove that the conjecture is true if we in addition assume that sec⁡M≥1\sec_M\geq1.

On π2\frac\pi2-separated subsets of Alexandrov spaces with curvature ≥1\geq1

Let MM be an nn-dimensional Alexandrov space with curvature ≥1\geq 1, and let {q1,⋯ ,qk}\{q_1,\cdots,q_k\} be any π2\frac\pi2-separated subset in MM (i.e. the distance ∣qiqj∣≥π2|q_iq_j|\geq\fracπ{2} for any i≠ji\neq j). Under the additional conditions "∣qiqj∣<π|q_iq_j|<π" and "the diameter $\diam(M)\leq \frac\pi2$", we respectively give the upper bound of kk (which depends only on nn), and we classify the (topological or geometric) structure of MM when kk attains the upper bound.
