Quantum Operads

The most standard description of symmetries of a mathematical structure produces a group. However, when the definition of this structure is motivated by physics, or information theory, etc., the respective symmetry objects might become more sophisticated: quasigroups, loops, quantum groups, ... In this paper, we introduce and study quantum symmetries of very general categorical structures: operads. Its initial motivation were spaces of probability distributions on finite sets. We also investigate here how structures of quantum information, such as quantum states and some constructions of quantum codes are algebras over operads.

Semantic Spaces

Any natural language can be considered as a tool for producing large databases (consisting of texts, written, or discursive). This tool for its description in turn requires other large databases (dictionaries, grammars etc.). Nowadays, the notion of database is associated with computer processing and computer memory. However, a natural language resides also in human brains and functions in human communication, from interpersonal to intergenerational one. We discuss in this survey/research paper mathematical, in particular geometric, constructions, which help to bridge these two worlds. In particular, in this paper we consider the Vector Space Model of semantics based on frequency matrices, as used in Natural Language Processing. We investigate underlying geometries, formulated in terms of Grassmannians, projective spaces, and flag varieties. We formulate the relation between vector space models and semantic spaces based on semic axes in terms of projectability of subvarieties in Grassmannians and projective spaces. We interpret Latent Semantics as a geometric flow on Grassmannians. We also discuss how to formulate Gärdenfors' notion of "meeting of minds" in our geometric setting.

Symbolic Dynamics, Modular Curves, and Bianchi IX Cosmologies

It is well known that the so called Bianchi IX spacetimes with SO(3)-symmetry in a neighbourhood of the Big Bang exhibit a chaotic behaviour of typical trajectories in the backward movement of time. This behaviour (Mixmaster Model of the Universe) can be encoded by the shift of two-sided continued fractions. Exactly the same shift encodes the sequences of intersections of hyperbolic geodesics with purely imaginary axis in the upper complex half-plane, that is geodesic flow on an appropriate modular surface. A physical interpretation of this coincidence was suggested in arXiv:1402.2158: namely, that Mixmaster chaos is an approximate description of the passage from a hot quantum Universe at the Big Bang moment to the cooling classical Universe. Here we discuss and elaborate this suggestion, looking at the Mixmaster Model from the perspective of the second class of Bianchi IX spacetimes: those with SU(2)-symmetry (self-dual Einstein metrics). We also extend it to the more general context related to Painleve' VI equations.

Modular shadows and the Levy-Mellin infinity-adic transform

This paper continues the study of the structures induced on the ``invisible boundary'' of the modular tower and extends some results of math.NT/0102006. We start with a systematic formalism of pseudo-measures generalizing the well-known theory of modular symbols for SL(2). These pseudo-measures, and the related integral formula which we call the Levy-Mellin transform, can be considered as an ``infinity-adic'' version of Mazur's p-adic measures introduced in the seventies in the theory of p-adic interpolation of Mellin transforms of cusp forms. A formalism of iterated Levy-Mellin transform in the style of math.NT/0502576 is sketched. Finally, we discuss the invisible boundary from the perspective of non-commutative geometry.

(Semi)simple exercises in quantum cohomology

The paper is dedicated to the study of algebraic manifolds whose quantum cohomology or a part of it is a semisimple Frobenius manifold. Theorem 1.8.1 says, roughly speaking, that the sum of $(p,p)$--cohomology spaces is a maximal Frobenius submanifold that has chances to be semisimple. Theorem 1.8.3 provides a version of the Reconstruction theorem, assuming semisimplicity but not $H^2$--generation. Theorem 3.6.1 establishes the semisimplicity for all del Pezzo surfaces, providing an evidence for the conjecture that semisimplicity is related to the existence of a full system of exceptional sheaves of the appropriate length. Finally, in §2 we calculate special coordinates for three families of Fano threefolds with minimal cohomology.
