Complete three-loop QCD corrections to leptonic width of vector quarkonium

Within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework, we compute the order-$α_s^3$ perturbative corrections to the leptonic decay of the $Υ$ and $J/ψ$ with high numerical accuracy, at the lowest order in velocity expansion. We confirm the existing three-loop results in literature. Furthermore, we explicitly consider the complex-valued light-by-light (singlet) contributions. We for the first time also consider the finite charm quark mass effect for $Υ$ leptonic decay, and obtain a new piece of 3-loop contribution to the anomalous dimension related to the composite NRQCD bilinear of vector current that arises from the nonzero charm quark mass. Based on the complete three-loop NRQCD short-distance coefficients, we also present a comprehensive phenomenological analysis for $Υ(J/ψ)$ leptonic width.

Three-loop QCD corrections to the decay constant of $B_c$

Within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, we compute the three-loop QCD corrections to the decay constant of $B_c$. We reconstruct the analytical expressions for the three-loop renormalization constant and the corresponding anomalous dimension affiliated with the pseudoscalar current composed of two different heavy flavors in NRQCD, which are functions of the ratio between the charm and bottom quark masses. Meanwhile, the short-distance coefficient is obtained with very high numerical accuracy. The three-loop QCD correction turns out to be overwhelmingly large. The phenomenological implication of this new piece of radiative corrections for the $B_c$ leptonic decay is also addressed.

Magnetic moment preservation and emergent Kondo resonance of Co-phthalocyanine on semimetallic Sb(111)

Magnetic molecules on surfaces have been widely investigated to reveal delicate interfacial couplings and for potential technological applications. In these endeavors, one prevailing challenge is how to preserve or recover the molecular spins, especially on highly metallic substrates that can readily quench the magnetic moments of the ad-molecules. Here we use scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy to exploit the semimetallic nature of antimony and observe, surprisingly yet pleasantly, that the spin of Co-phthalocyanine is well preserved on Sb(111), as unambiguously evidenced by the emergent strong Kondo resonance across the molecule. Our first-principles calculations further confirm that the optimal density of states near the Fermi level of the semimetal is a decisive factor, weakening the overall interfacial coupling, while still ensuring sufficiently effective electron-spin scattering in the many-body system. Beyond isolated ad-molecules, we discover that each of the magnetic moments in a molecular dimer or a densely packed island is distinctly preserved as well, rendering such molecular magnets immense potentials for ultra-high density memory devices.

Twisting enabled charge transfer excitons in epitaxially fused quantum dot molecules

Charge-transfer excitons possessing long radiative lifetime and net permanent dipole moment are highly appealing for quantum dot (QD) based energy harvesting and photodetecting devices, in which the efficiency of charge separation after photo-excitation limits the device performance. Herein, using a hybrid time-dependent density functional theory, we have demonstrated that the prevailing rule of selecting materials with staggered type-II band alignment for realization of charge-transfer exciton breaks down in epitaxially fused QD molecules. The excitonic many-body effects are found to be significant and distinct depending on the exciton nature, causing unexpected reverse ordering of exciton states. Strikingly, twisting QD molecule appears as an effective means of modulating the orbital spatial localization towards charge separation that is mandatory for a charge-transfer exciton. Meanwhile, it manifests the intra-energy-level splitting that counterbalances the distinct many-body effects felt by excitons of different nature, thus ensuring the successful generation of energetically favourable charge-transfer exciton in both homodimer and heterodimer QD molecules. Our study extends the realm of twistroincs into zero-dimensional materials, and provides a genuine route of manipulating the exciton nature in QD molecules.

Dependency of Sliding Friction for Two Dimensional Systems on Electronegativity

We study the role of electronegativity in sliding friction for five different two dimensional (2D) monolayer systems using density functional theory (DFT) with van der Waals (vdW) corrections. We show that the friction between the commensurate 2D layered systems depends strongly on the electronegativity difference of the involved atoms. All the 2D layered structures exhibit almost the same magnitude of friction force when sliding along the nonpolar path, independent of the material and the surface structures. In contrast, for sliding friction along the polar path, the friction force obeys a universal linear scaling law as a function of the electronegativity difference of its constituent atoms. Further analyses demonstrate that atomic dipoles in the 2D monolayers induced by the electronegativity difference enhance the corrugation of charge distribution and increase the sliding barrier accordingly. Our studies reveal that electronegativity plays an important role in friction of low dimensional systems, and will provide a strategy for designing nanoscale devices further.

Fragmentation production of fully-charmed tetraquarks at LHC

The $X(6900)$ resonance, very recently discovered in the double-$J/ψ$ channel at LHCb experiment, has spurred intensive interest in unravelling the nature of the fully charmed tetraquark state. The aim of this paper is to present a model-independent theoretical framework to study the inclusive production of this novel species of exotic hadrons, the resonances composed of four heavy quark (commonly referred to as $T_{4c}$), at large $p_T$ in hadron collision experiments. Appealing to asymptotic freedom and the fact $m_c\gg Λ_{\rm QCD}$, we propose that the nonpertubative yet universal gluon-to-$T_{4c}$ fragmentation function, can be decomposed into the product of the perturbatively calculable short-distance coefficient and the long-distance NRQCD matrix elements. We compute the short-distance coefficient at lowest-order in $α_s$ and velocity expansion. Adopting the diquark ansatz to roughly estimate those not-yet-known NRQCD matrix elements, together with the standard QCD factorization theorem, we predict the differential production rates for the $T_{4c/4b}(0^{++})$ and $T_{4c/4b}(2^{++})$ at large $p_T$ in $pp$ collision, which eagerly awaits the confrontation with the future LHC experiments.

Giant magnetoresistance in antiferromagnetic Mn$_2$Au-based tunnel junction

Recent studies on the electrical switching of tetragonal antiferromagnet (AFM) via N{é}el spin-orbit torque have paved the way for the economic use of antiferromagnetic materials. The most difficult obstacle that presently limits the application of antiferromagnetic materials in spintronics, especially in memory storage applications, could be the small and fragile magnetoresistance (MR) in the AFM-based nanostructure. In this study, we investigated the spin transports in Mn$_2$Au-based tunnel junctions based onthe first-principle scattering theory. Giant MRs more than $1000\%$ are predicted in some Fe/MgO/Ag/Mn$_2$Au/Ta junctions that are about the same order as that in an MgO-based ferromagnetic tunnel junction with same barrier thickness. The interplay of the spin filtering effect, the quantum well resonant states, and the interfacial resonant states could be responsible for the unusual giant and robust MRs observed in these Mn$_2$Au-based junctions.

Novel Porous Aluminum Nitride Monolayer Structures A First-principles Study

By using ab inito calculations within Density Functional Theory, we have explored the possible structures and various properties of porous AlN monolayer materials. Two kinds of porous AlN monolayer are identified, and the phonon dispersion spectrum together with the ab inito molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate that their structures are stable. We further show that these AlN porous monolayers have well-defined porous nanostructures and even higher specific surface areas, namely, which can be comparable with graphene, and can also be maintained evenly at high temperatures. Furthermore, both porous monolayers exhibit semiconductor properties with 2.89 eV and 2.86 eV indirect band gap, respectively. In addition, the electronic structures of such porous monolayers can be modulated by strains. The band gap of porous AlN monolayer experiences an indirect-direct transition when biaxial strain is applied. A moderate 9% compression can trigger this gap transition. These results indicate that the porous AlN monolayer may potentially be used for optoelectronic applications, as well as for underlying catalysts in the future.

Relativistic corrections to exclusive $χ_{cJ} + γ$ production from $e^+ e^-$ annihilation

We calculate in the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework all leading relativistic corrections to the exclusive production of $χ_{cJ}+γ$ in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation. In particular, we compute for the first time contributions induced by octet operators with a chromoelectric field. The matching coefficients multiplying production long distance matrix elements (LDMEs) are determined through perturbative matching between QCD and NRQCD at the amplitude level. Technical challenges encountered in the non-relativistic expansion of the QCD amplitudes are discussed in detail. The main source of uncertainty comes from the not so well known LDMEs. Accounting for it, we provide the following estimates for the production cross sections at $\sqrt{s} = 10.6\textrm{ GeV}$: $σ(e^+ e^- \to χ_{ c0} + γ) = (1.3 \pm 0.4) \textrm{ fb}$, $σ(e^+ e^- \to χ_{ c1} + γ) = (15.4 \pm 6.7) \textrm{ fb}$, and $σ(e^+ e^- \to χ_{ c2} + γ) = (4.7 \pm 2.6) \textrm{ fb}$.

Two-dimensional topological semimetal states in monolayers Cu$_2$Ge, Fe$_2$Ge, and Fe$_2$Sn

Recent experimental realizations of the topological semimetal states in several monolayer systems are very attractive because of their exotic quantum phenomena and technological applications. Based on first-principles density-functional theory calculations including spin-orbit coupling, we here explore the drastically different two-dimensional (2D) topological semimetal states in three monolayers Cu$_2$Ge, Fe$_2$Ge, and Fe$_2$Sn, which are isostructural with a combination of the honeycomb Cu or Fe lattice and the triangular Ge or Sn lattice. We find that (i) the nonmagnetic (NM) Cu$_{2}$Ge monolayer having a planar geometry exhibits the massive Dirac nodal lines, (ii) the ferromagentic (FM) Fe$_2$Ge monolayer having a buckled geometry exhibits the massive Weyl points, and (iii) the FM Fe$_2$Sn monolayer having a planar geometry and an out-of-plane magnetic easy axis exhibits the massless Weyl nodal lines. It is therefore revealed that mirror symmetry cannot protect the four-fold degenerate Dirac nodal lines in the NM Cu$_{2}$Ge monolayer, but preserves the doubly degenerate Weyl nodal lines in the FM Fe$_{2}$Sn monolayer. Our findings demonstrate that the interplay of crystal symmetry, magnetic easy axis, and band topology is of importance for tailoring various 2D topological states in Cu$_2$Ge, Fe$_2$Ge, and Fe$_2$Sn monlayers.

Fragmentation function of gluon into spin-singlet $P$-wave quarkonium

Following the operator definition of the fragmentation function developed by Collins and Soper, we compute the gluon-to-$h_c$ fragmentation function at the lowest order in the velocity expansion in NRQCD factorization approach. Utilizing some modern technique developed in the area of multi-loop calculation, we are able to analytically deduce the infrared-finite color-singlet short-distance coefficient associated with the fragmentation function. The fragmentation probability for gluon into $h_c$ is estimated to be order $10^{-6}$.

Spin-orbit coupling effects on the stability of two competing structures in Pb/Si(111) and Pb/Ge(111)

Using first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) calculations, we investigate the 4/3-monolayer structure of Pb on the Si(111) or Ge(111) surface within the two competing structural models termed the H$_3$ and T$_4$ structures. We find that the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) influences the relative stability of the two structures in both the Pb/Si(111) and Pb/Ge(111) systems: i.e., our DFT calculation without including the SOC predicts that the T$_4$ structure is energetically favored over the H$_3$ structure by $ΔE$ = 25 meV for Pb/Si(111) and 22 meV for Pb/Ge(111), but the inclusion of SOC reverses their relative stability as $ΔE$ = $-$12 and $-$7 meV, respectively. Our analysis shows that the SOC-induced switching of the ground state is attributed to a more asymmetric surface charge distribution in the H$_3$ structure, which gives rise to a relatively larger Rashba spin splitting of surface states as well as a relatively larger pseudo-gap opening compared to the T$_4$ structure. By the nudged elastic band calculation, we obtain a sizable energy barrier from the H$_3$ to the T$_4$ structure as ${\sim}$0.59 and ${\sim}$0.27 eV for Pb/Si(111) and Pb/Ge(111), respectively. It is thus likely that the two energetically competing structures can coexist at low temperatures.

Anomalous doping effect in black phosphorene from first-principles calculations

Using first-principles density functional theory calculations, we investigate the geometries, electronic structures, and thermodynamic stabilities of substitutionally doped phosphorene sheets with group III, IV, V, and VI elements. We find that the electronic properties of phosphorene are drastically modified by the number of valence electrons in dopant atoms. The dopants with even number of valence electrons enable the doped phosphorenes to have a metallic feature, while the dopants with odd number of valence electrons keep the semiconducting feature with a larger band gap than the undoped phosphorene. This even-odd behavior is attributed to the peculiar bonding characteristics of phosphorene and the strong hybridization of sp orbitals between dopants and phosphorene. The calculated formation energies of various substitutional dopants in phosphorene show that such doped systems can be thermodynamically stable.

Can NRQCD explain the $γγ^* \to η_c$ transition form factor data?

Unlike the bewildering situation in the $γγ^*\to π$ form factor, a widespread view is that perturbative QCD can decently account for the recent \textsc{BaBar} measurement of $γγ^*\to η_c$ transition form factor. The next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) perturbative correction to the $γγ^*\to η_{c,b}$ form factor, is investigated in the NRQCD factorization framework for the first time. As a byproduct, we obtain by far the most precise order-$α_s^2$ NRQCD matching coefficient for the $η_{c,b}\to γγ$ process. After including the substantial negative order-$α_s^2$ correction, the good agreement between NRQCD prediction and the measured $γγ^*\to η_c$ form factor is completely ruined over a wide range of momentum transfer squared. This eminent discrepancy casts some doubts on the applicability of NRQCD approach to hard exclusive reactions involving charmonium.

Dilute magnetic semiconductor and half metal behaviors in 3d transition-metal doped black and blue phosphorenes: a first-principles study

We present first-principles density-functional calculations for the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of substitutional 3d transition metal (TM) impurities in two-dimensional black and blue phosphorenes. We find that the magnetic properties of such substitutional impurities can be understood in terms of a simple model based on the Hund's rule. The TM-doped black phosphorenes with Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe and Ni impurities show dilute magnetic semiconductor (DMS) properties while those with Sc and Co impurities show nonmagnetic properties. On the other hand, the TM-doped blue phosphorenes with V, Cr, Mn and Fe impurities show DMS properties, those with Ti and Ni impurities show half-metal properties, whereas Sc and Co doped systems show nonmagnetic properties. We identify two different regimes depending on the occupation of the hybridized electronic states of TM and phosphorous atoms: (i) bonding states are completely empty or filled for Sc- and Co-doped black and blue phosphorenes, leading to non-magnetic; (ii) non-bonding d states are partially occupied for Ti-, V-, Cr-, Mn-, Fe- and Ni-doped black and blue phosphorenes, giving rise to large and localized spin moments. These results provide a new route for the potential applications of dilute magnetic semiconductor and half-metal in spintronic devices by employing black and blue phosphorenes.

Electronic and magnetic properties of dopant atoms in SnSe monolayer: a first-principles study

SnSe monolayer with orthorhombic Pnma GeS structure is an important two-dimensional (2D) indirect band gap material at room temperature. Based on first-principles density functional theory calculations, we present systematic studies on the electronic and magnetic properties of X (X = Ga, In, As, Sb) atoms doped SnSe monolayer. The calculated electronic structures show that Ga-doped system maintains semiconducting property while In-doped SnSe monolayer is half-metal. The As- and Sb- doped SnSe systems present the characteristics of n-type semiconductor. Moreover, all considered substitutional doping cases induce magnetic ground states with the magnetic moment of 1μB. In addition, the calculated formation energies also show that four types of doped systems are thermodynamic stable. These results provide a new route for the potential applications of doped SnSe monolayer in 2D photoelectronic and magnetic semiconductor devices.

Equivalence of Electronic and Mechanical Stresses in Structural Phase Stabilization: A Case Study of Indium Wires on Si(111)

It was recently proposed that the stress state of a material can also be altered via electron or hole doping, a concept termed electronic stress (ES), which is different from the traditional mechanical stress (MS) due to lattice contraction or expansion. Here we demonstrate the equivalence of ES and MS in structural stabilization, using In wires on Si(111) as a prototypical example. Our systematic density-functional theory calculations reveal that, first, for the same degrees of carrier doping into the In wires, the ES of the high-temperature metallic 4x1 structure is only slightly compressive, while that of the low-temperature insulating 8x2 structure is much larger and highly anisotropic. As a consequence, the intrinsic energy difference between the two phases is significantly reduced towards electronically phase-separated ground states. Our calculations further demonstrate quantitatively that such intriguing phase tunabilities can be achieved equivalently via lattice-contraction induced MS in the absence of charge doping. We also validate the equivalence through our detailed scanning tunneling microscopy experiments. The present findings have important implications in understanding the underlying driving forces involved in various phase transitions of simple and complex systems alike.

Finite volume corrections to the binding energy of the X(3872)

The quark mass dependence of hadrons is an important input for lattice calculations. We investigate the light quark mass dependence of the binding energy of the X(3872) in a finite box to next-to-leading order in an effective field theory for the X(3872) with perturbative pions (XEFT). At this order, the quark mass dependence is determined by a quark mass-dependent contact interaction in addition to the one-pion exchange. While there is only a moderate sensitivity to the light quark masses in the region up to twice their physical value, the finite volume effects are significant already at box length as large as 20 fm.

Next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to $χ_{c0,2}\rightarrow γγ$

We calculate the next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) perturbative corrections to $P$-wave quarkonia annihilation decay to two photons, in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization. The order-$α_s^2$ short-distance coefficients associated with each helicity amplitude are presented in a semi-analytic form, including the "light-by-light" contributions. With substantial NNLO corrections, we find disquieting discrepancy when confronting our state-of-the-art predictions with the latest \textsf{BESIII} measurements, especially fail to account for the measured $χ_{c2}\toγγ$ width. Incorporating the effects of spin-dependent forces would even exacerbate the situation, since it lifts the degeneracy between the nonperturbative NRQCD matrix elements of $χ_{c0}$ and $χ_{c2}$ toward the wrong direction. We also present the order-$α_s^2$ predictions to $χ_{b0,2}\toγγ$, which await the future experimental test.

Origin of Symmetric Dimer Images of Si(001) Observed in Low-Temperature STM

It has been a long-standing puzzle why buckled dimers of the Si(001) surface appeared symmetric below 20 K in scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments. Although such symmetric dimer images were concluded to be due to an artifact induced by STM measurements, its underlying mechanism is still veiled. Here,we demonstrate, based on a first-principles density-functional theory calculation, that the symmetric dimer images are originated from the flip-flop motion of buckled dimers, driven by quantum tunneling (QT). It is revealed that at low temperature the tunneling-induced surface charging with holes reduces the energy barrier for the flipping of buckled dimers, thereby giving rise to a sizable QT-driven frequency of the flip-flop motion. However, such a QT phenomenon becomes marginal in the tunneling-induced surface charging with electrons. Our findings provide an explanation for low-temperature STM data that exhibits apparent symmetric (buckled) dimer structure in the filled-state (empty-state) images.

Quasi Distribution Amplitude of Heavy Quarkonia

The recently-proposed quasi distributions point out a promising direction for lattice QCD to investigate the light-cone correlators, such as parton distribution functions (PDF) and distribution amplitudes (DA), directly in the $x$-space. Owing to its excessive simplicity, the heavy quarkonium can serve as an ideal theoretical laboratory to ascertain certain features of quasi-DA. In the framework of non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, we compute the order-$α_s$ correction to both light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDA) and quasi-DA associated with the lowest-lying quarkonia, with the transverse momentum UV cutoff interpreted as the renormalization scale. We confirm analytically that the quasi-DA of a quarkonium does reduce to the respective LCDA in the infinite-momentum limit. We also observe that, provided that the momentum of a charmonium reaches about 2-3 times its mass, the quasi-DAs already converge to the LCDAs to a decent level. These results might provide some useful guidance for the future lattice study of the quasi distributions.

Short-range force between two Higgs bosons

The $S$-wave scattering length and the effective range of the Higgs boson in Standard Model are studied using effective-field-theory approach. After incorporating the first-order electroweak correction, the short-range force between two Higgs bosons remains weakly attractive for $M_H=126$ GeV. It is interesting to find that the force range is about two order-of-magnitude larger than the Compton wavelength of the Higgs boson, almost comparable with the typical length scale of the strong interaction.

$O(α_s)$ corrections to $J/ψ+χ_{cJ}$ production at $B$ factories

We investigate the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ corrections to $e^+e^-\to J/ψ(ψ')+χ_{cJ}$ ($J=0,1,2$) in the NRQCD factorization approach. These next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections are calculated at the level of helicity amplitude. We have made a detailed analysis for both polarized and unpolarized cross sections, and compared our predictions with the measurements at the $B$ factories. We also derive the asymptotic expressions for each of the NLO helicity amplitudes, and confirm the earlier speculation that at NLO in $α_s$, the double logarithm of type $\ln^2 (s/m_c^2)$ appearing in the NRQCD short-distance coefficient is always associated with the helicity-suppressed channels.

Light quark mass dependence of the X(3872) in XEFT

The quark mass dependence of hadrons is an important input for lattice calculations. We investigate the light quark mass dependence of the binding energy of the X(3872) and the Dbar0-D*0 scattering length in the C=+1 channel to next-to-leading order in XEFT where pion interactions are perturbative. At this order, the quark mass dependence is determined by a quark mass-dependent contact interaction in addition to the one-pion exchange. Using naturalness arguments to constrain unknown parameters, we find a moderate sensitivity of the binding energy for quark masses up to twice the physical value while the scattering length is more sensitive. The occurrence of infrared divergences due to on-shell pions in XEFT and their treatment is discussed in detail.

Reconciling the nonrelativistic QCD prediction and the $J/ψ\to 3γ$ data

It has been a long-standing problem that the rare electromagnetic decay process $J/ψ\to 3γ$ is plagued with both large and negative radiative and relativistic corrections. To date it remains futile to make a definite prediction to confront with the branching fraction of $J/ψ\to 3γ$ recently measured by the \textsf{CLEO-c} and \textsf{BESIII} Collaborations. In this work, we investigate the joint perturbative and relativistic correction (i.e. the ${\mathcal O}(α_s v^2)$ correction, where $v$ denotes the characteristic velocity of the charm quark inside the $J/ψ$) for this decay process, which turns out to be very significant. After incorporating the contribution from this new ingredient, with the reasonable choice of the input parameters, we are able to account for the measured decay rates in a satisfactory degree.

Some recent progress in understanding exclusive double charmonium production at $B$ factories

We review some recent progress in understanding various exclusive double charmonium production processes at $B$ factories, within the nonrelativistic QCD factorization framework. First we investigate the impact of the joint perturbative and relativistic correction on the process that has attracted a great amount of attention in the past decade, $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$. We then briefly discuss the phenomenological implication of the next-to-leading order perturbative correction to the processes $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+χ_{c0,1,2} (η_{c2})$. We further emphasize a novel theoretical challenge, which is recently discovered by applying the NRQCD factorization approach to the helicity-suppressed hard exclusive reactions involving heavy quarkonium.

$O(α_s v^2)$ correction to $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$ at $B$ factories

We investigate the ${\mathcal O}(α_s v^2)$ correction to the $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$ process in the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization approach. Within some reasonable choices of the relative order-$v^2$ NRQCD matrix elements, we find that including this new ingredient of correction only mildly enhances the existing NRQCD predictions. We have also deduced the asymptotic expressions for the ${\mathcal O}(α_s v^2)$ short-distance coefficients, and reconfirm the early speculation that at next-to-leading order in $α_s$, the double logarithm of type $\ln^2 (s/m_c^2)$ appearing in various NRQCD short-distance coefficients is always associated with the helicity-suppressed channels.

Three distinct decay mechanisms, i.e., the strong, electromagnetic and radiative decay channels are included and their interference effects are investigated. Inclusive $h_c$ production at $B$ factories

Within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework, we investigate the inclusive production of the $h_c$ meson associated with either light hadrons or charmed hadrons at $B$ factory energy $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV. Both the leading color-singlet and color-octet channels are included. For the $h_c$ production associated with light hadrons, the total production rate is dominated by the color-octet channel, thus the future measurement of this process may impose useful constraint on the value of the color-octet matrix element $<{\cal O}^{h_c}_8({}^1S_0)>$; for the $h_c$ production associated with charmed hadrons, the total production rate is about one order of magnitude smaller, and dominated by the color-singlet channel.

New results on the baryon decay Lambda_b -> Lambda_c ell nu in Heavy Quark Effective Theory

The baryon differential spectrum of the baryon decay $Λ_b \to Λ_c \ell \barν_\ell$ will be measured in detail at LHCb. We obtain new results on the form factors in the heavy quark expansion of Heavy Quark Effective Theory that can be useful in the interpretation of the data. We formulate a sum rule for the elastic subleading form factor $A(w)$ at order $1/m_Q$, that originates from the Lagrangian perturbation $\mathcal{L}_{kin}$. In the sum rule appear only the intermediate states $(j^P, J^P) = (0^+, {1 \over 2}^+)$, entering also in the $1/{m_Q^2}$ correction to the axial form factor $G_1(w)$, that contributes to the differential rate at zero recoil $w = 1$. This result, together with another sum rule in the forward direction for $|G_1(1)|^2$, allows us to obtain a lower bound for the correction at zero recoil $- δ_{1/{m_Q^2}}^{(G_1)}$ in terms of the derivative $A'_1(1)$ and the slope $ρ^2_Λ$ and curvature $σ^2_Λ$ of the elastic Isgur-Wise function $ξ_Λ(w)$. Another theoretical implication is that $A'(1)$ must vanish for some relation between $ρ^2_Λ$ and $σ^2_Λ$, as well as for $ρ^2_Λ\to 0$, establishing a non-trivial correlation between the leading IW function $ξ_Λ(w)$ and the subleading one $A(w)$. A phenomenological estimation of these two functions allows to obtain a lower bound on $- δ_{1/{m_Q^2}}^{(G_1)}$.

$O(α_s v^2)$ correction to pseudoscalar quarkonium decay to two photons

We investigate the $O(α_s v^2)$ correction to the process of pseudoscalar quarkonium decay to two photons in nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework. The short-distance coefficient associated with the relative-order $v^2$ NRQCD matrix element is determined to next-to-leading order in $α_s$ through the perturbative matching procedure. Some technical subtleties encountered in calculating the ${O(α_s)$ QCD amplitude are thoroughly addressed.

Bridging light-cone and NRQCD approaches: asymptotic behavior of $B_c$ electromagnetic form factor

This work aims at illustrating that, for a class of leading-twist hard exclusive reactions involving two heavy quarkonia, the light-cone approach, when equipped with the strategy of refactorization of the light-cone distribution amplitude of quarkonium, can be employed to elegantly reproduce the corresponding predictions made in the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization approach, order by order in perturbative expansion. Taking the electromagnetic form factor of the $B_c$ meson at large momentum transfer, $Q^2$, as a concrete example, we compare the results obtained from both NRQCD-based and light-cone-based calculations through the next-to-leading order (NLO) in $α_s$, while at the leading order (LO) in both velocity and $1/Q^2$ expansion, and explicitly confirm their mutual agreement. As a byproduct, we apply our NLO result to explore certain features about the asymptotic behavior of the heavy-light meson form factor. We also address the major theoretical obstacles that prevent us from establishing an analogous equivalence between these two approaches for the double charmonium production process of phenomenological interest, $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$.

"Hard-scattering" approach to very hindered magnetic-dipole transitions in quarkonium

For a class of hindered magnetic dipole ($M1$) transition processes, such as $Υ(3S)\to η_b+γ$ (the discovery channel of the $η_b$ meson), the emitted photon is rather energetic so that the traditional approaches based on multipole expansion may be invalidated. We propose that a "hard-scattering" picture, somewhat analogous to the pion electromagnetic form factor at large momentum transfer, may be more plausible to describe such types of transition processes. We work out a simple factorization formula at lowest order in the strong coupling constant, which involves convolution of the Schrödinger wave functions of quarkonia with a perturbatively calculable part induced by exchange of one semihard gluon between quark and antiquark. This formula, without any freely adjustable parameters, is found to agree with the measured rate of $Υ(3S)\to η_b+γ$ rather well, and can also reasonably account for other recently measured hindered $M1$ transition rates. The branching fractions of $Υ(4S)\to η_b^{(\prime)}+γ$ are also predicted.

The $γ^{*}ρ^0\toπ^0$ transition form factor is extracted from recent result for the $γ^* γ^* π^0$ form factor obtained in the extended hard-wall AdS/QCD model with a Chern-Simons term. In the large momentum region, the form factor exhibits a $1/Q^4$ behavior, in accordance with the perturbative QCD analysis, and also with the Light-Cone Sum Rule (LCSR) result if the pion wave function exhibits the same endpoint behavior as the asymptotic one. The appearance of this power behavior from the AdS side and the LCSR approach seem to be rather similar: both of them come from the {"}soft" contributions. Comparing the expressions for the form factor in both sides, one can obtain the duality relation $z\propto \sqrt{u(1-u)}$, which is compatible with one of the most important relations of the Light-Front holography advocated by Brodsky and de Teramond. In the moderate $Q^2$ region, the comparison of the numerical results from both approaches also supports a asymptotic-like pion wave function, in accordance with previous studies for the $γ^* γ^* π^0$ form factor. The form factor at zero momentum transfer gives the $γ^{*}ρ^0π^0$ coupling constant, from which one can determine the partial width for the $ρ^0(ω)\to π^0 γ$ decay. We also calculate the form factor in the time-like region, and study the corresponding Dalitz decays $ρ^0(ω)\to π^0 e^+e^-, π^0μ^+μ^-$. Although all these results are obtained in the chiral limit, numerical calculations with finite quark masses show that the corrections are extremely small. Some of these calculations are repeated in the Hirn-Sanz model and similar results are obtained.

Color-singlet relativistic correction to inclusive $J/ψ$ production associated with light hadrons at $B$ factories

We study the first-order relativistic correction to the associated production of $J/ψ$ with light hadrons at $B$ factory experiments at $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV, in the context of NRQCD factorization. We employ a strategy for NRQCD expansion that slightly deviates from the orthodox doctrine, in that the matching coefficients are not truly of ``short-distance" nature, but explicitly depend upon physical kinematic variables rather than partonic ones. Our matching method, with validity guaranteed by the Gremm-Kapustin relation, is particularly suited for the inclusive quarkonium production and decay processes with involved kinematics, exemplified by the process $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+gg$ considered in this work. Despite some intrinsic ambiguity affiliated with the order-$v^2$ NRQCD matrix element, if we choose its value as what has been extracted from a recent Cornell-potential-model-based analysis, including the relative order-$v^2$ effect is found to increase the lowest-order prediction for the integrated $J/ψ$ cross section by about 30\%, and exert a modest impact on $J/ψ$ energy, angular and polarization distributions except near the very upper end of the $J/ψ$ energy. The order-$v^2$ contribution to the energy spectrum becomes logarithmically divergent at the maximum of $J/ψ$ energy. A consistent analysis may require that these large end-point logarithms be resummed to all orders in $α_s$.

Is the $J^P=2^-$ assignment for the $X(3872)$ compatible with the radiative transition data?

The very recent analysis by BaBar Collaboration indicates that the $X(3872)$ may favor the quantum number $J^{PC}=2^{-+}$ rather than the previously assumed $1^{++}$. By pretending the $η_{c2}(1D)$ charmonium to be the $X(3872)$, we study the parity-even radiative transition processes $η_{c2}(1D)\to J/ψ(ψ')+γ$ within several phenomenological potential models. We take the ${}^3D_1$ admixture in $ψ'$ into account, and consider the contributions from the magnetic dipole ($M1$), electric quadrupole ($E2$), and magnetic octupole ($M3$) amplitudes. It is found that the ratio of the branching fractions of these two channels, as well as the absolute branching fraction of $η_{c2}\to ψ'γ$, are in stark contradiction with the existing \textsc{BaBar} measurements. This may indicate that the $2^{-+}$ assignment for the $X(3872)$ is highly problematic.

Hunting eta_b through radiative decay into J/psi

We propose that the radiative decay process, η_b\to J/ψγ, may serve as a clean searching mode for η_b in hadron collision facilities. By a perturbative QCD calculation, we estimate the corresponding branching ratio to be of order 10^{-7}. Though very suppressed, this radiative decay channel in fact has larger branching ratio than the hadronic decay process η_b\to J/ψJ/ψ, which was previously hoped to be a viable mode for ferreting out η_b in Tevatron Run 2. The discovery potential of η_b through this channel seems promising in the forthcoming LHC experiments and maybe even in Tevatron Run 2, thanks to the huge statistics of η_b to be accumulated in these experiments. The same calculational scheme is also used to estimate the branching ratios for the processes η_b (η_c) \to ϕγ.

Lambda_c^+/Lambda_c^- Asymmetry in Hadroproduction from Heavy-Quark Recombination

Asymmetries in the hadroproduction of charm particles directly probe power corrections to the QCD factorization theorems. In this paper, the heavy-quark recombination mechanism, a power correction that explains charm meson asymmetries, is extended to charm baryons. In this mechanism, a light quark participates in the hard scattering that creates a charm quark and they hadronize together into a charm baryon. This provides a natural and economical explanation for the Λ_c^+/Λ_c^- asymmetries measured in πN and p N collisions.

B Production Asymmetries in Perturbative QCD

This paper explores a new mechanism for B production in which a b quark combines with a light parton from the hard-scattering process before hadronizing into the B hadron. This recombination mechanism can be calculated within perturbative QCD up to a few nonperturbative constants. Though suppressed at large transverse momentum by a factor Lambda_QCD m_b/p_t^2 relative to b quark fragmentation production, it can be important at large rapidities. A signature for this heavy-quark recombination mechanism in proton-antiproton colliders is the presence of rapidity asymmetries in B cross sections. Given reasonable assumptions about the size of nonperturbative parameters entering the calculation, we find that the asymmetries are only significant for rapidities larger than those currently probed by collider experiments.

The Leading Particle Effect from Heavy-Quark Recombination

The leading particle effect in charm hadroproduction is an enhancement of the cross section for a charmed hadron D in the forward direction of the beam when the beam hadron has a valence parton in common with the D. The large D+/D- asymmetry observed by the E791 experiment is an example of this phenomenon. We show that the heavy-quark recombination mechanism provides an economical explanation for this effect. In particular, the D+/D- asymmetry can be fit reasonably well using a single parameter whose value is consistent with a recent determination from charm photoproduction.
