The increase of the light collection from scintillation strip with hole for WLS fiber using various types of fillers

The light collection of the extruded scintillator strip samples with WLS fibers placed in the longitudinal hole in the plates was measured. The holes were filled with various liquid fillers. Measurements were carried out under irradiation by cosmic muons. The method of pumping liquid filler with viscosity more than 10 Pa*s in the strip hole with WLS fiber inside was designed and successfully tested.

Random symmetrizations of convex bodies

In this paper, the asymptotic behavior of sequences of successive Steiner and Minkowski symmetrizations is investigated. We state an equivalence result between the convergences of those sequences for Minkowski and Steiner. Moreover, in the case of independent (and not necessarily identically distributed) directions, we prove the almost sure convergence of successive symmetrizations at rate exponential for Minkowski, and at rate e−cne^{-c\sqrt{n}}, with c>0c>0, for Steiner.

On convex hull of Gaussian samples

Let Xi=Xi(t),t∈TX_i = {X_i(t), t \in T} be i.i.d. copies of a centered Gaussian process X=X(t),t∈TX = {X(t), t \in T} with values in Rd\mathbb{R}^d defined on a separable metric space T.T. It is supposed that XX is bounded. We consider the asymptotic behaviour of convex hulls $$ W_n = \conv\ {X_1(t), X_n(t), t \in T}$$ and show that with probability 1 lim⁡n→∞12ln⁡nWn=W \lim_{n\to \infty} \frac{1}{\sqrt{2\ln n}} W_n = W (in the sense of Hausdorff distance), where the limit shape WW is defined by the covariance structure of XX: $W = \conv {}\{K_t, t\in T}, K_t$ being the concentration ellipsoid of X(t).X(t). The asymptotic behavior of the mathematical expectations Ef(Wn)Ef(W_n), where ff is an homogeneous functional is also studied.

Order statistics and heavy-tail distributions for planetary perturbations on Oort cloud comets

This paper tackles important aspects of comets dynamics from a statistical point of view. Existing methodology uses numerical integration for computing planetary perturbations for simulating such dynamics. This operation is highly computational. It is reasonable to wonder whenever statistical simulation of the perturbations can be much more easy to handle. The first step for answering such a question is to provide a statistical study of these perturbations in order to catch their main features. The statistical tools used are order statistics and heavy tail distributions. The study carried out indicated a general pattern exhibited by the perturbations around the orbits of the important planet. These characteristics were validated through statistical testing and a theoretical study based on Opik theory.
