BAGNet: Bidirectional Aware Guidance Network for Malignant Breast lesions Segmentation

Breast lesions segmentation is an important step of computer-aided diagnosis system, and it has attracted much attention. However, accurate segmentation of malignant breast lesions is a challenging task due to the effects of heterogeneous structure and similar intensity distributions. In this paper, a novel bidirectional aware guidance network (BAGNet) is proposed to segment the malignant lesion from breast ultrasound images. Specifically, the bidirectional aware guidance network is used to capture the context between global (low-level) and local (high-level) features from the input coarse saliency map. The introduction of the global feature map can reduce the interference of surrounding tissue (background) on the lesion regions. To evaluate the segmentation performance of the network, we compared with several state-of-the-art medical image segmentation methods on the public breast ultrasound dataset using six commonly used evaluation metrics. Extensive experimental results indicate that our method achieves the most competitive segmentation results on malignant breast ultrasound images.

Calibration procedures for the CHASE/HIS science data

The Hα line is an important optical line in solar observations containing the information from the photosphere to the chromosphere. To study the mechanisms of solar eruptions and the plasma dynamics in the lower atmosphere, the Chinese Hα Solar Explorer (CHASE) was launched into a Sun-synchronous orbit on October 14, 2021. The scientific payload of the CHASE satellite is the Hα Imaging Spectrograph (HIS). The CHASE/HIS acquires, for the first time, seeing-free Hα spectroscopic observations with high spectral and temporal resolutions. It consists of two observational modes. The raster scanning mode provides full-Sun or region-of-interest spectra at Hα (6559.7-6565.9 Å) and Fe I (6567.8-6570.6 Å) wavebands. The continuum imaging mode obtains full-Sun photospheric images at around 6689 Å. In this paper, we present detailed calibration procedures for the CHASE/HIS science data, including the dark-field and flat-field correction, slit image curvature correction, wavelength and intensity calibration, and coordinate transformation. The higher-level data products can be directly used for scientific research.

Coronal and Chromospheric Signatures of Large-Scale Disturbances Associated with a Major Solar Eruption

We present both coronal and chromospheric observations of large-scale disturbances associated with a major solar eruption on 2005 September 7. In GOES/SXI, arclike coronal brightenings are recorded propagating in the southern hemisphere. The SXI front shows an initially constant speed of 730 km s$^{-1}$ and decelerates later on, and its center is near the central position angle of the associated coronal mass ejection (CME) but away from flare site. Chromospheric signatures of the disturbances are observed in both MLSO/PICS H$α$ and MLSO/CHIP He I 10830 Å, and can be divided into two parts. The southern signatures occur in regions where the SXI front sweeps over, with the H$α$ bright front coincident with the SXI front while the He I dark front lagging the SXI front but showing a similar kinematics. Ahead of the path of the southern signatures, oscillations of a filament are observed. The northern signatures occur near the equator, with the H$α$ and He I fronts coincident with each other. They first propagate westward, and then deflect to the north at the boundary of an equatorial coronal hole (CH). Based on these observational facts, we suggest that the global disturbances are associated with the CME lift-off, and show a hybrid nature: a mainly non-wave CME flank nature for the SXI signatures and the corresponding southern chromospheric signatures, and a shocked fast-mode coronal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) wave nature for the northern chromospheric signatures.

Multicolor Graphene Nanoribbon/Semiconductor Nanowire Heterojunction Light-Emitting Diodes

We report novel graphene nanoribbon (GNR)/semiconductor nanowire (SNW) heterojunction light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for the first time. The GNR and SNW have a face-to-face contact structure, which has the merit of bigger active region. ZnO, CdS, and CdSe NWs were employed in our case. At forward biases, the GNR/SNW heterjunction LEDs could emit light with wavelengths varying from ultraviolet (380 nm) to green (513 nm) to red (705 nm), which were determined by the band-gaps of the involved SNWs. The mechanism of light emitting for the GNR/SNW heterojunction LED was discussed. Our approach can easily be extended to other semiconductor nano-materials. Moreover, our achievement opens the door to next-generation display technologies, including portable, "see-through", and conformable products.

A Simple and Scalable Graphene Patterning Method and Its Application in CdSe Nanobelt/Graphene Schottky Junction Solar Cells

We develop a simple and scalable graphene patterning method using electron-beam or ultraviolet lithography followed by a lift-off process. This method, with the merits of: high pattern resolution and high alignment accuracy, free from additional etching or harsh process, universal to arbitrary substrates, compatible to Si microelectronic technology, can be easily applied to diverse graphene-based devices, especially in array-based applications, where large-scale graphene patterns are desired. We have applied this method to fabricate CdSe nanobelt (NB)/graphene Schottky junction solar cells, which have potential application in integrated nano-optoelectronic systems. Typical as-fabricated solar cell shows excellent photovoltaic behavior with an open-circuit voltage of ~ 0.51 V, a short-circuit current density of ~ 5.75 mA/cm2, and an energy conversion efficiency of ~1.25%. We attribute the high performance of the cell to the as-patterned high-performance graphene, which can form an ideal Schottky contact with CdSe NB. Our results suggest both the developed graphene patterning method and the as-fabricated CdSe nanobelt (NB)/graphene Schottky junction solar cells have reachable application prospect.

Millimeter Dust Emission in the GQ Lup System

We present Submillimeter Array observations of the GQ Lup system at 1.3 millimeters wavelength with $0\farcs4$ ($\sim$60 AU) resolution. Emission is detected from the position of the primary star, GQ Lup A, and is marginally resolved. No emission is detected from the substellar companion, GQ Lup B, $0\farcs7$ away. These data, together with models of the spectral energy distribution, suggest a compact disk around GQ Lup A with mass $\sim 3$ M$_{Jup}$, perhaps truncated by tidal forces. There is no evidence for a gap or hole in the disk that might be the signature of an additional inner companion body capable of scattering GQ Lup B out to $\sim100$ AU separation from GQ Lup A. For GQ Lup B to have formed {\it in situ}, the disk would have to have been much more massive and extended.
