Self-cleaning and self-cooling paper

The technique of passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) is used to cool an object down by simultaneously reflecting sunlight and thermally radiating heat to the cold outer space through the Earth's atmospheric window. However, for practical applications, current PDRC materials are facing unprecedented challenges such as complicated and expensive fabrication approaches and performance degradation arising from surface contamination. Here, we develop a scalable paper-based material with excellent self-cleaning and self-cooling capabilities, through air-spraying ethanolic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) microparticles suspensions embedded within the micropores of the paper. The formed superhydrophobic PTFE coating not only protects the paper from water wetting and dust contamination for real-life applications but also reinforces its solar reflectance by sunlight backscattering. The paper fibers, when enhanced with PTFE particles, efficiently reflect sunlight and strongly radiate heat through the atmospheric window, resulting in a sub-ambient cooling performance of 5$^{\circ}$C and radiative cooling power of 104 W/m$^2$ under direct solar irradiance of 834 W/m$^2$ and 671 W/m$^2$, respectively. The self-cleaning surface of the cooling paper extends its lifespan and keep its good cooling performance for outdoor applications. Additionally, dyed papers are experimentally studied for broad engineering applications. They can absorb appropriate visible wavelengths to display specific colors and effectively reflect near-infrared lights to reduce solar heating, which synchronously achieves effective radiative cooling and aesthetic varieties in a cost-effective, scalable, and energy-efficient way.

The Cauchy problem for higher-order modified Camassa-Holm equations on the circle

In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the shallow water type equation \begin{eqnarray*} u_{t}+\partial_{x}^{2j+1}u + \frac{1}{2}\partial_{x}(u^{2})+ \partial_{x}(1-\partial_{x}^{2})^{-1}\left[u^{2}+\frac{1}{2}u_{x}^{2}\right]=0 \end{eqnarray*} with low regularity data in the periodic settings. Himonas and Misiolek (Communications in Partial Differential Equations, 23(1998), 123-139.) have proved that the problem is locally well-posed for small initial data in H^{s}(\mathbf{T}) with s\geq-\frac{j}{2}+1,j\in N^{+} with the aid of the standard Fourier restriction norm method. To the best of our knowledge, there is no result of well-posedness about the problem when s<-\frac{j}{2}+1. In this paper, firstly, we prove that the bilinear estimate related to the nonlinear term of the equation in standard Bourgain space is invalid with s<-\frac{j}{2}+1. Then we prove that the Cauchy problem for the periodic shallow water-type equation is locally well-posed in H^{s}(\mathbf{T}) with -j+\frac{3}{2}< s<-\frac{j}{2}+1,j\geq2 for arbitrary initial data. The novelty is that we introduce some new function spaces and give a useful relationship among new spaces.

The Cauchy problem for the shallow water typ equations in low regularity spaces on the circle

In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the shallow water type equation \[ u_{t}+\partial_{x}^{3}u + \frac{1}{2}\partial_{x}(u^{2})+\partial_{x} (1-\partial_{x}^{2})^{-1}\left[u^{2}+\frac{1}{2}u_{x}^{2}\right]=0,x\in {\mathbf T}=\R/2π λ\] with low regularity data in the periodic settings and $λ\geq1$. We prove that the bilinear estimate in $X_{s,b}$ with $s<\frac{1}{2}$ is invalid. We also prove that the problem is locally well-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbf{T})$ with $\frac{1}{6}<s<\frac{1}{2}$ for small initial data. The result of this paper improves the result of case $j=1$ of Himonas and Misiolek (Communications in Partial Differential Equations, 23(1998), 123-139.). The new ingredients are some new function spaces and some new Strichartz estimates.

Global well-posedness for the 3-D density-dependent liquid crystal flows in the critical Besov spaces

In this paper, we prove the local well-posedness of 3-D density-dependent liquid crystal flows with initial data in the critical Besov spaces, without assumptions of small density variation. Furthermore, if the initial density is close enough to a positive constant and the critical Besov norm of the liquid crystal orientation field and the horizontal components of the initial velocity field polynomially small compared with the critical Besov norm to the veritcal component of the initial velocity field, then the system has a unique global solution.

On the Well-posedness of 2-D Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations with Variable Viscosity in Critical Spaces

In this paper, we first prove the local well-posedness of the 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with variable viscosity in critical Besov spaces with negative regularity indices, without smallness assumption on the variation of the density. The key is to prove for $p\in(1,4)$ and $a\in\dot{B}_{p,1}^{\frac2p}(\mathbb{R}^2)$ that the solution mapping $\mathcal{H}_a:F\mapsto\nablaΠ$ to the 2-D elliptic equation $\mathrm{div}\big((1+a)\nablaΠ\big)=\mathrm{div} F$ is bounded on $\dot{B}_{p,1}^{\frac2p-1}(\mathbb{R}^2)$. More precisely, we prove that $$\|\nablaΠ\|_{\dot{B}_{p,1}^{\frac2p-1}}\leq C\big(1+\|a\|_{\dot{B}_{p,1}^{\frac2p}}\big)^2\|F\|_{\dot{B}_{p,1}^{\frac2p-1}}.$$ The proof of the uniqueness of solution to (1.2) relies on a Lagrangian approach [15]-[17]. When the viscosity coefficient $μ(ρ)$ is a positive constant, we prove that (1.2) is globally well-posed.

Sharp well-posedness and ill-posedness of the Cauchy problem for the higher-order KdV

In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the higher-order KdV-type equation \begin{eqnarray*} u_{t}+(-1)^{j+1}\partial_{x}^{2j+1}u + \frac{1}{2}\partial_{x}(u^{2}) = 0,j\in N^{+},x\in\mathbf{T}= [0,2πλ) \end{eqnarray*} with low regularity data and $λ\geq 1$. Firstly, we show that the Cauchy problem for the periodic higher-order KdV equation is locally well-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbf{T})$ with $s\geq -j+\frac{1}{2},j\geq2.$ By using some new Strichartz estimate and some new function spaces, we also show that the Cauchy problem for the periodic higher-order KdV equation is ill-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbf{T})$ with $s<-j+\frac{1}{2},j\geq2$ in the sense that the solution map is $C^{3}.$ The result of this paper improves the result of \cite{H} with $j\geq2$.

The Cauchy problem for a higher order shallow water type equation on the circle

In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for a higher order shallow water type equation \begin{eqnarray*} u_{t}-u_{txx}+\partial_{x}^{2j+1}u-\partial_{x}^{2j+3}u+3uu_{x}-2u_{x}u_{xx}-uu_{xxx}=0, \end{eqnarray*} where $x\in \mathbf{T}=\mathbf{R}/2π$ and $j\in N^{+}.$ Firstly, we prove that the Cauchy problem for the shallow water type equation is locally well-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbf{T})$ with $s\geq -\frac{j-2}{2}$ for arbitrary initial data. By using the $I$-method, we prove that the Cauchy problem for the shallow water type equation is globally well-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbf{T})$ with $\frac{2j+1-j^{2}}{2j+1}<s\leq 1.$ Our results improve the result of A. A. Himonas, G. Misiolek (Communications in partial Differential Equations, 23(1998), 123-139;Journal of Differential Equations, 161(2000), 479-495.)

A novel hohlraum with ultrathin depleted-uranium-nitride coating layer for low hard x-ray emission and high radiation temperature

An ultra-thin layer of uranium nitrides (UN) has been coated on the inner surface of the depleted uranium hohlraum (DUH), which has been proved by our experiment can prevent the oxidization of Uranium (U) effectively. Comparative experiments between the novel depleted uranium hohlraum and pure golden (Au) hohlraum are implemented on Shenguang III prototype laser facility. Under the laser intensity of 6*10^14 W/cm2, we observe that, the hard x-ray (> 1.8 keV) fraction of this uranium hohlraum decreases by 61% and the peak intensity of total x-ray flux (0.1 keV ~ 5.0 keV) increases by 5%. Radiation hydrodynamic code LARED is used to interpret the above observations. Our result for the first time indicates the advantage of the UN-coated DUH in generating the uniform x-ray field with a quasi Planckian spectrum and thus has important implications in optimizing the ignition hohlraum design.

The Cauchy problem for the Ostrovsky equation with negative dispersion at the critical regularity

In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the Ostrovsky equation \begin{eqnarray*} \partial_{x}\left(u_{t}-β\partial_{x}^{3}u +\frac{1}{2}\partial_{x}(u^{2})\right) -γu=0, \end{eqnarray*} in the Sobolev space $H^{-3/4}(\R)$. Here $β>0(<0)$ corresponds to the positive (negative) dispersion of the media, respectively. P. Isaza and J. Mej\'ıa (J. Diff. Eqns. 230(2006), 601-681; Nonli. Anal. 70(2009), 2306-2316), K. Tsugawa (J. Diff. Eqns. 247(2009), 3163-3180) proved that the problem is locally well-posed in $H^s(\R)$ when $s>-3/4$ and ill-posed when $s<-3/4$. By using some modified Bourgain spaces, we prove that the problem is locally well-posed in $H^{-3/4}(\R)$ with $β<0$ and $γ>0.$ The new ingredient that we introduce in this paper is Lemmas 2.1-2.6.
