Magnetic and pairing properties of a two-orbital model for the pnictide superconductors: A quantum Monte Carlo study

Using the constrained-path Monte Carlo method, a two-orbital model for the pnictide superconductors is studied at half filling and in both the electron- and hole-doped cases. At half filling, a stable $(π,0)$/$(0,π)$ magnetic order is explicitly observed, and the system tends to be in an orthomagnetic order rather than the striped antiferromagnetic order when increasing the Coulomb repulsion $U$. In the electron-doped case, the $(π,0)$/$(0,π)$ magnetic order is enhanced upon doping and suppressed eventually, and a $s_{\pm}$ pairing state dominates all the possible nearest-neighbor-bond pairings. Whereas in the hole-doped case, the magnetic order is straightforwardly suppressed and two nearly degenerate $A_{1g}$ and $B_{1g}$ intraband pairings become the dominant ones.

Quantum Monte Carlo study of the $S_4$ symmetric microscopic model for iron-based superconductors

The $S_4$ symmetric microscopic model with two iso-spin components has been studied via constrained-path quantum Monte Carlo simulation. Our results demonstrate a stable $(π,0)$ or $(0,π)$ magnetic order which is significantly enhanced on increasing both the Coulomb repulsion $U$ and Hund's coupling strength $J$. Also, our simulation indicates that the magnetic order tends to be in an orthomagnetic one, in which the nearest-neighbour magnetic moment are orthogonal to each other, rather than in a collinear antiferromagnetic state. Interestingly, when the system is doped away from half filling, the magnetic order is obviously elevated in the low doping density, and then significantly suppressed when more electrons are introduced. Meanwhile, we find that an $A_{1g}$ $s_{\pm}$-wave pairing dominates all the singlet nearest-neighbour pairings, and is significantly enhanced via electron doping.

Low-energy effective theory and two distinct critical phases in a spin-1/2 frustrated three-leg spin tube

Motivated by the crystal structures of [(CuCl2tachH)3Cl]Cl2 and Ca3Co2O6, we develop a low-energy effective theory using the bosonization technique for a spin-1/2 frustrated three-leg spin tube with trigonal prism units in two limit cases. The features obtained with the effective theory are numerically elucidated by the density matrix renormalization group method. Three different quantum phases in the ground state of the system, say, one gapped dimerized phase and two distinct gapless phases, are identified, where the two gapless phases are found to have the conformal central charge c=1 and 3/2, respectively. Spin gaps, spin and dimer correlation functions, and the entanglement entropy are obtained. In particular, it is disclosed that the critical phase with c=3/2 is the consequence of spin frustrations, which might belong to the SU(2)k=2 Wess-Zumino-Witten-Novikov universality class, and is induced by the twist term in the bosonized Hamiltonian density.

Quantum transfer matrix method for one-dimensional disordered electronic systems

We develop a novel quantum transfer matrix method to study thermodynamic properties of one-dimensional (1D) disordered electronic systems. It is shown that the partition function can be expressed as a product of $2\times2$ local transfer matrices. We demonstrate this method by applying it to the 1D disordered Anderson model. Thermodynamic quantities of this model are calculated and discussed.
