Ten more times precision improved method for surface roughness estimation with weak measurement

High-precision surface roughness estimation plays an important role in many applications. However, the classical estimating methods are limited by shot noise and only can achieve the precision of 0.1 nm with white light interferometer. Here, we propose two weak measurement schemes to estimate surface roughness through spectrum analysis and intensity analysis. The estimating precision with spectrum analysis is about $10 ^{-5}$ nm by using a currently available spectrometer with the resolution of $Δλ= 0.04$ pm and the corresponding sensitivity is better than 0.1 THz/nm. And the precision and sensitivity of the light intensity analysis scheme achieve as high as 0.07 nm and 1/nm, respectively. By introducing a modulated phase, we show that the sensitivity and precision achieved in our schemes can be effectively retained in a wider dynamic range. We further provide the experimental design of the surface profiler based on our schemes. It simultaneously meets the requirements of high precision, high sensitivity, and wide measurement range, making it to be a promising practical tool.

A certification scheme for the boson sampler

Boson sampling can provide strong evidence that the computational power of a quantum computer outperforms a classical one via currently feasible linear optics experiments. However, how to identify an actual boson sampling device against any classical computing imposters is an ambiguous problem due to the computational complexity class in which boson sampling lies. The certification protocol based on bosonic bunching fails to rule out the so-called mean-field sampling. We propose a certification scheme to distinguish the boson sampling from the mean-field sampling for any random scattering matrices chosen via the Harr-measure. We numerically analyze our scheme and the influence of imperfect input states caused by non-simultaneous arrival photons.

Generation of three-dimensional entangled states between a single atom and a Bose-Einstein Condensate via adiabatic passage

We propose a robust scheme to prepare three-dimensional entanglement states between a single atom and a Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) via stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) techniques. The atomic spontaneous radiation, the cavity decay, and the fiber loss are efficiently suppressed by the engineering adiabatic passage. Our scheme is also robust to the variation of atom number in the BEC.

Generating atomic multi-dimensional entangled states under large atom-cavity detuning

We propose a scheme to deterministically generate atomic two-dimensional and three-dimensional entangled states by passing two 87Rb atoms through a high-Q bi-mode cavity alternately. The scheme is insensitive to atomic spontaneous decay because of large atom-cavity detuning, the influence of cavity decay is also discussed. Our strictly numerical simulation shows our proposal is good enough to demonstrate the generation of atomic entanglement with high fidelity and within the current experimental technologies.

Quantum state transfer through a spin chain in a multi-excitation subspace

We investigate the quality of quantum state transfer through a uniformly coupled antiferromagnetic spin chain in a multi-excitation subspace. The fidelity of state transfer using multi-excitation channels is found to compare well with communication protocols based on the ground state of a spin chain with ferromagnetic interactions. Our numerical results support the conjecture that the fidelity of state transfer through a multi-excitation subspace only depends on the number of initial excitations present in the chain and is independent of the excitation ordering. Based on these results, we describe a communication scheme which requires little effort for preparation.

Quantum states experimentally achieving high-fidelity transmission over a spin chain

A uniformly coupled double quantum Hamiltonian for a spin chain has recently been implemented experimentally. We propose a method for the determination of initial quantum states that will provide perfect or near-perfect state transmission for an arbitrary Hamiltonian including this one. By calculating the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a unitary operator obtained from the free evolution plus an exchange operator, we find that the double quantum Hamiltonian spin chain will support a three-spin initial encoding that will transfer along the chain with remarkably high fidelity. The fidelity is also found to decrease very slowly with increasing chain length. In addition, we are able to explain previous results showing exceptional transfer using this method.

Duplex quantum communication through a spin chain

Data multiplexing within a quantum computer can allow for the simultaneous transfer of multiple streams of information over a shared medium thereby minimizing the number of channels needed for requisite data transmission. Here, we investigate a two-way quantum communication protocol using a spin chain placed in an external magnetic field. In our scheme, Alice and Bob each play the role of a sender and a receiver as two states cos(θ1/2)|0> + sin(θ1/2)exp(iϕ1)|1>, cos(θ2/2)|0> + sin(θ2/2)exp(iϕ2)|1> are transferred through one channel simultaneously. We find that the transmission fidelity at each end of a spin chain can usually be enhanced by the presence of a second party. This is an important result for establishing the viability of duplex quantum communication through spin chain networks.

Generation of atomic entangled states in a bi-mode cavity via adiabatic passage

We propose schemes to prepare atomic entangled states in a bi-mode cavity via stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) and fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (f-STIRAP) tech- niques. According to the simulation results, our schemes keep the cavity modes almost unexcited and the atomic excited states are nearly unpopulated during the whole process. The simulation also shows that the error probability is very small.
