Berezin-Toeplitz operators, Kodaira maps, and random sections

We study the zeros of sections of the form $T_k s_k$ of a large power $L^{\otimes k} \to M$ of a holomorphic positive Hermitian line bundle over a compact K\''ahler manifold $M$, where $s_k$ is a random holomorphic section of $L^{\otimes k}$ and $T_k$ is a Berezin-Toeplitz operator, in the limit $k \to +\infty$. In particular, we compute the second order approximation of the expectation of the distribution of these zeros. In a ball of radius of order $k^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ around $x \in M$, assuming that the principal symbol $f$ of $T_k$ is real-valued and vanishes transversally, we show that this expectation exhibits two drastically different behaviors depending on whether $f(x) = 0$ or $f(x) \neq 0$. These different regimes are related to a similar phenomenon about the convergence of the normalized Fubini-Study forms associated with $T_k$: they converge to the K\''ahler form in the sense of currents as $k\rightarrow + \infty$, but not as differential forms (even pointwise). This contrasts with the standard case $f=1$, in which the convergence is in the $\mathscr{C}^{\infty}$-topology. From this, we are able to recover the zero set of $f$ from the zeros of $T_k s_k$.

Semitoric families

Semitoric systems are a type of four-dimensional integrable system for which one of the integrals generates a global $S^1$-action; these systems were classified by Pelayo and Vu Ngoc in terms of five symplectic invariants. We introduce and study semitoric families, which are one-parameter families of integrable systems with a fixed $S^1$-action that are semitoric for all but finitely many values of the parameter, with the goal of developing a strategy to find a semitoric system associated to a given partial list of semitoric invariants. We also enumerate the possible behaviors of such families at the parameter values for which they are not semitoric, providing examples illustrating nearly all possible behaviors, which describes the possible limits of semitoric systems with a fixed $S^1$-action. Furthermore, we introduce natural notions of blowup and blowdown in this context, investigate how semitoric families behave under these operations, and use this to prove that each Hirzebruch surface admits a semitoric family with certain desirable invariants; these families are related to the semitoric minimal model program. Finally, we give several explicit semitoric families on the first and second Hirzebruch surfaces showcasing various possible behaviors of such families which include new semitoric systems.

Euler-MacLaurin formulas via differential operators

Recently there has been a renewed interest in asymptotic Euler-MacLaurin formulas, partly due to applications to spectral theory of differential operators. Using elementary means, we recover such formulas for compactly supported smooth functions f on intervals, polygons, and 3-dimensional polytopes, where the coefficients in the asymptotic expansion are sums of differential operators involving only derivatives of f in directions normal to the faces of the polytope. Our formulas apply to wedges of any dimension. This paper builds on, and is motivated by, works of Guillemin, Sternberg, and others, in the past ten years.

Inverse spectral theory for semiclassical Jaynes-Cummings systems

Quantum semitoric systems form a large class of quantum Hamiltonian integrable systems with circular symmetry which has received great attention in the past decade. They include systems of high interest to physicists and mathematicians such as the Jaynes\--Cummings model (1963), which describes a two-level atom interacting with a quantized mode of an optical cavity, and more generally the so-called systems of Jaynes\--Cummings type. In this paper we consider the joint spectrum of a pair of commuting semiclassical operators forming a quantum integrable system of Jaynes\--Cummings type. We prove, assuming the Bohr\--Sommerfeld rules hold, that if the joint spectrum of two of these systems coincide up to $\mathcal{O}(\hbar^2)$, then the systems are isomorphic.

Singular Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions for 1D Toeplitz operators: hyperbolic case

In this article, we state the Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions around a singular value of hyperbolic type of the principal symbol of a self-adjoint semiclassical Toeplitz operator on a compact connected Kähler surface. These conditions allow the description of the spectrum of the operator in a fixed size neighbourhood of the singularity. We provide numerical computations for three examples, each associated to a different topology.

Singular Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions for 1D Toeplitz operators: elliptic case

In this article, we state the Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions around a global minimum of the principal symbol of a self-adjoint semiclassical Toeplitz operator on a compact connected Kähler surface, using an argument of normal form which is obtained thanks to Fourier integral operators. These conditions give an asymptotic expansion of the eigenvalues of the operator in a neighbourhood of fixed size of the singularity. We also recover the usual Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions away from the critical point. We end by investigating an example on the two-dimensional torus.
