Quantum Birkhoff Normal Form in the $σ$-Bruno-Rüssmann non-resonant condition

The aim of this paper is to construct a Gevrey quantum Birkhoff normal form for the $h$-differential operator $P_{h}(t),$ where $ t\in(-\frac{1}{2},\frac{1}{2})$, in the neighborhood of the union $Λ$ of KAM tori. This construction commences from an appropriate Birkhoff normal form of $H$ around $Λ$ and proceeds under the $σ$-Bruno-Rüssmann condition with $σ>1$.

KAM Theorems for Multi-scale Torus

In present paper, from the viewpoint of physical intuition we introduce a Hamiltonian system with multiscale rotation, which describes many systems, for example, the forced pendulum with fast rotation, weakly coupled $N$-oscillators with quasiperiodic force and so on. We study the persistence of invariant tori for this Hamiltonian system, and establish some KAM type results including the isoenergetic type. As consequences, we can show that Boltzmann's ergodicity hypothesis is also not true for this Hamiltonian system.

On an inverse problem for the plate equation with passive measurement

This paper focuses on an inverse problem associated with the plate equation which is derived from models in fluid mechanics and elasticity. We establish the unique identifying results in simultaneously determining both the unknown density and internal sources from passive boundary measurement. The proof mainly relies on the asymptotic analysis and harmonic analysis on integral transforms

Stability for Time-domain Elastic Wave Equations

This paper is concerned with the inverse scattering problem involving the time-domain elastic wave equations in a bounded $d$-dimensional domain. First, an explicit reconstruction formula for the density is established by means of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator. The reconstruction is mainly based on the modified boundary control method and complex geometric optics solutions for the elastic wave. Next, the stable observability is obtained by a Carleman estimate. Finally, the stability for the density is presented by the connect operator.

Analysis of the Spatio-temporal Dynamics of COVID-19 in Massachusetts via Spectral Graph Wavelet Theory

The rapid spread of COVID-19 disease has had a significant impact on the world. In this paper, we study COVID-19 data interpretation and visualization using open-data sources for 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts from December 6, 2020 to September 25, 2021. Because cities are embedded in rather complex transportation networks, we construct the spatio-temporal dynamic graph model, in which the graph attention neural network is utilized as a deep learning method to learn the pandemic transition probability among major cities in Massachusetts. Using the spectral graph wavelet transform (SGWT), we process the COVID-19 data on the dynamic graph, which enables us to design effective tools to analyze and detect spatio-temporal patterns in the pandemic spreading. We design a new node classification method, which effectively identifies the anomaly cities based on spectral graph wavelet coefficients. It can assist administrations or public health organizations in monitoring the spread of the pandemic and developing preventive measures. Unlike most work focusing on the evolution of confirmed cases over time, we focus on the spatio-temporal patterns of pandemic evolution among cities. Through the data analysis and visualization, a better understanding of the epidemiological development at the city level is obtained and can be helpful with city-specific surveillance.

Modal approximation for time-domain elastic scattering from metamaterial quasiparticles

This paper aims at quantitatively understanding the elastic wave scattering due to negative metamaterial structures under wide-band signals in the time domain. Specifically, we establish the modal expansion for the time-dependent field scattered by metamaterial quasiparticles in elastodynamics. By Fourier transform, we first analyze the modal expansion in the time-harmonic regime. With the presence of quasiparticles, we validate such an expansion in the static regime via quantitatively analyzing the spectral properties of the Neumann-Poincaré operator associated with the elastostatic system. We then approximate the incident field with a finite number of modes and apply perturbation theory to obtain such an expansion in the perturbative regime. In addition, we give polariton resonances as simple poles for the elastic system with non-zero frequency. Finally, we show that the low-frequency part of the scattered field in the time domain can be well approximated by using the resonant modal expansion with sharp error estimates.

Quasi-periodic travelling waves for a class of damped beams on rectangular tori

This article concerns a class of beam equations with damping on rectangular tori. When the generators satisfy certain relationship, by excluding some value of two model parameters, we prove that such models admit small amplitude quasi-periodic travelling wave solutions with two frequencies, which are continuations of two rotating wave solutions with one frequency. This result holds not only for an isotropic torus, but also for an anisotropic torus. The proof is mainly based on a Lyapunov--Schmidt reduction together with the implicit function theorem.

Response solutions for wave equations with variable wave speed and periodic forcing

We consider a model of nonlinear wave equations with periodically varying wave speed and periodic external forcing. By imposing non-resonance conditions on the frequency, we establish the existence of the response solutions (i.e., periodic solutions with the same frequency as the forcing) for such a model in a Cantor set of asymptotically full measure. The proof relies on a Lyapunov--Schmidt reduction together with the Nash--Moser iteration.

Well-posedness for good Boussinesq equations subject to quasi-periodic initial data

This paper concerns the local well-posedness for the "good" Boussinesq equation subject to quasi-periodic initial conditions. By constructing a delicately and subtly iterative process together with an explicit combinatorial analysis, we show that there exists a unique solution for such a model in a small region of time. The size of this region depends on both the given data and the frequency vector involved. Moreover the local solution has an expansion with exponentially decaying Fourier coefficients.

Analysis of Time-Domain Scattering by Periodic Structures

This paper is devoted to the mathematical analysis of a time-domain electromagnetic scattering by periodic structures which are known as diffraction gratings. The scattering problem is reduced equivalently into an initial-boundary value problem in a bounded domain by using an exact transparent boundary condition. The well-posedness and stability of the solution are established for the reduced problem. Moreover, a priori energy estimates are obtained with minimum regularity requirement for the data and explicit dependence on the time.

Analysis of Transient Acoustic-Elastic Interaction in an Unbounded Structure

Consider the wave propagation in a two-layered medium consisting of a homogeneous compressible air or fluid on top of a homogeneous isotropic elastic solid. The interface between the two layers is assumed to be an unbounded rough surface. This paper concerns the time-domain analysis of such an acoustic-elastic interaction problem in an unbounded structure in three dimensions. Using an exact transparent boundary condition and suitable interface conditions, we study an initial-boundary value problem for the coupling of the Helmholtz equation and the Navier equation. The well-posedness and stability are established for the reduced problem. Our proof is based on the method of energy, the Lax--Milgram lemma, and the inversion theorem of the Laplace transform. Moreover, a priori estimates with explicit dependence on the time are achieved for the quantities of acoustic pressure and elastic displacement by taking special test functions for the time-domain variational problem.

Electromagnetic Scattering for Time-Domain Maxwell's Equations in an Unbounded Structure

The goal of this work is to study the electromagnetic scattering problem of time-domain Maxwell's equations in an unbounded structure. An exact transparent boundary condition is developed to reformulate the scattering problem into an initial-boundary value problem in an infinite rectangular slab. The well-posedness and stability are established for the reduced problem. Our proof is based on the method of energy, the Lax--Milgram lemma, and the inversion theorem of the Laplace transform. Moreover, a priori estimates with explicit dependence on the time are achieved for the electric field by directly studying the time-domain Maxwell equations.
