An objective vortex identification method

Generally, the vortex structures should be independent of the observers who are moving, especially when their coordinates are non-inertial, which may result in confusions in communications between researchers. The property that not being influenced by the choice of coordinate is called objective. Mostly, researchers would like to gather data in the inertial coordinate because most physical laws are valid in the inertial coordinate. As a result, how to transfer the observations in a non-inertial coordinate to those in an inertial coordinate raises interest. In this paper, methods are provided to obtain velocity and velocity gradient tensor in an inertial coordinate from the non-inertial observations based on one known zero-vorticity point which can be chosen from physical fact such as the point is located in the inviscid region.Further, objective vortex structure can be calculated from the objective velocity or velocity gradient tensor. With Liutex chosen as the indicator of the vortex, two numerical examples are used to test the proposed methods. The results show that the methods perform very well and the relative error is extremely small.

Transition space for the continuity of the Lyapunov exponent of quasiperiodic Schrödinger cocycles

We construct discontinuous point of the Lyapunov exponent of quasiperiodic Schrödinger cocycles in the Gevrey space $G^{s}$ with $s>2$. In contrast, the Lyapunov exponent has been proved to be continuous in the Gevrey space $G^{s}$ with $s<2$ \cite{klein,cgyz}. This shows that $G^2$ is the transition space for the continuity of the Lyapunov exponent.

Liutex-based Modified Navier-Stokes Equation

The Navier-Stokes (NS) partial differential equations, as the governing equation of fluid dynamics, are based on particles with zero volume. In such a condition, conservation law of moment of momentum is automatically satisfied, and thus NS equations only contain conservation of mass, momentum and energy. Because of the difficulty to get an analytical solution of NS equations, scientists develop finite element method (FEM) and finite volume method (FVM) to obtain approximate solutions. However, these methods are dependent on the size of finite volumes, which is not zero. Considering the size of the finite volume, conservation law of moment of momentum is no longer automatically satisfied and it is necessary to develop a new control equation to take effect of momentum into account. In this paper, new relations of reciprocal shear stresses are derived from conservation law of moment of momentum, and so are new constitutive relations and modified NS equations. The Liutex based NS equation may be the universal governing equations for both laminar and turbulent flow which is dominated by vortices and conservation of moment of momentum must be satisfied.

Quasi-Periodic Schrödinger Cocycles with Positive Lyapunov Exponent are not Open in the Smooth Topology

One knows that the set of quasi-periodic Schrödinger cocycles with positive Lyapunov exponent is open and dense in the analytic topology. In this paper, we construct cocycles with positive Lyapunov exponent which can be approximated by ones with zero Lyapunov exponent in the space of ${\cal C}^ l$ ($1 \le l\le \infty$) smooth quasi-periodic cocycles. As a consequence, the set of quasi-periodic Schrödinger cocycles with positive Lyapunov exponent is not ${\cal C}^ l$ open.

Cantor spectrum for a class of $C^2$ quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators

We show that for a class of $C^2$ quasiperiodic potentials and for any Diophantine frequency, the spectrum of the corresponding Schrödinger operators is Cantor. Our approach is of purely dynamical systems, which depends on a detailed analysis of asymptotic stable and unstable directions. We also apply it to general $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R)$ cocycles, and obtain that uniform hyperbolic systems form a open and dense set in some one-parameter family.

Boundedness for Second Order Differential Equations with Jumping p-Laplacian and an Oscillating Term

In this paper, we are concerned with the boundedness of all the solutions for a kind of second order differential equations with p-Laplacian and an oscillating term $(ϕ_p(x'))'+aϕ_p(x^+)-bϕ_p(x^-)=G_x(x,t)+f(t)$, where$x^+=\max (x,0)$,$x^- =\max(-x,0)$,$ϕ_p(s)=|s|^{p-2}s$,$p\geq2$, $a $ and $b$ are positive constants $(a\not=b)$, the perturbation $f(t)\in {\cal C}^{23}(\RR/2π_p \ZZ)$, the oscillating term $G\in {\cal C}^{21}(\RR\times\RR/2π_p \ZZ)$,where $π_p=\frac{2π(p-1)^{\frac{1}{p}}}{p\sin\fracπ{p}},$ and $G(x,t)$ satisfies $\label{G} |D_x^iD_t^jG(x,t)|\le C,\quad 0\le i+j\le 21,$ and $\label{hatG} |D_t^j\hat{G}|\le C,\quad 0\le j\le 21$ for some $C>0$, where $\hat{G}$ is some function satisfying $\frac{\pa \hat{G}}{\pa x}=G$.

Quasi-periodic solutions for p-Laplacian equations with jumping nonlinearity and unbounded potential terms

In this paper, we are concerned with the boundedness of all the solutions for a kind of second order differential equations with p-Laplacian term $(ϕ_p(x'))'+aϕ_p(x^+)-bϕ_p(x^-)+f(x)=e(t)$, where $x^+=\max (x,0)$, $x^- =\max(-x,0)$, $ϕ_p(s)=|s|^{p-2}s$, $p\geq2$, $a$ and $b$ are positive constants $(a\not=b)$, and satisfy $\frac{1}{a^{\frac{1}{p}}}+\frac{1}{b^{\frac{1}{p}}}=2ω^{-1} $,where $ω\in \RR^+ \backslash \QQ$, the perturbation $f$ is unbounded, $e(t)\in {\cal C}^{6}$ is is a smooth $2π_p$-periodic function on $t$, where $π_p=\frac{2π(p-1)^{\frac{1}{p}}}{p\sin\fracπ{p}}$.

Uniform Positivity and Continuity of Lyapunov Exponents for a Class of $C^2$ Quasiperiodic Schrödinger Cocycles

We show that for a class of $C^2$ quasiperiodic potentials and for any Diophantine frequency, the Lyapunov exponents of the corresponding Schrödinger cocycles are uniformly positive and weak Hölder continuous as function of energies. As a corollary, we also obtain that the corresponding integrated density of states (IDS) is weak Hölder continous. Our approach is of purely dynamical systems, which depends on a detailed analysis of asymptotic stable and unstable directions. We also apply it to more general $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R)$ cocycles, which in turn can be applied to get uniform positivity and continuity of Lyapuonv exponents around unique nondegenerate extremal points of any smooth potential, and to a certain class of $C^2$ Szeg\H o cocycles.
