From Context to EDUs: Faithful and Structured Context Compression via Elementary Discourse Unit Decomposition

Managing extensive context remains a critical bottleneck for Large Language Models (LLMs), particularly in applications like long-document question answering and autonomous agents where lengthy inputs incur high computational costs and introduce noise. Existing compression techniques often disrupt local coherence through discrete token removal or rely on implicit latent encoding that suffers from positional bias and incompatibility with closed-source APIs. To address these limitations, we introduce the EDU-based Context Compressor, a novel explicit compression framework designed to preserve both global structure and fine-grained details. Our approach reformulates context compression as a structure-then-select process. First, our LingoEDU transforms linear text into a structural relation tree of Elementary Discourse Units (EDUs) which are anchored strictly to source indices to eliminate hallucination. Second, a lightweight ranking module selects query-relevant sub-trees for linearization. To rigorously evaluate structural understanding, we release StructBench, a manually annotated dataset of 248 diverse documents. Empirical results demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art structural prediction accuracy and significantly outperforms frontier LLMs while reducing costs. Furthermore, our structure-aware compression substantially enhances performance across downstream tasks ranging from long-context tasks to complex Deep Search scenarios.

An unfiltered low-regularity integrator for the KdV equation with solutions below ${\bf H^1}$

This article is concerned with the construction and analysis of new time discretizations for the KdV equation on a torus for low-regularity solutions below $H^1$. New harmonic analysis tools, including new averaging approximations to the exponential phase functions, new frequency decomposition techniques, and new trilinear estimates of the KdV operator, are established for the construction and analysis of time discretizations with higher convergence orders under low-regularity conditions. In addition, new techniques are introduced to establish stability estimates of time discretizations under low-regularity conditions without using filters when the energy techniques fail. The proposed method is proved to be convergent with order $γ$ (up to a logarithmic factor) in $L^2$ under the regularity condition $u\in C([0,T];H^γ)$ for $γ\in(0,1]$.

Designing IRS-Aided MIMO Systems for Secrecy Enhancement

Intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) enable multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmitters to modify the communication channels between the transmitters and receivers. In the presence of eavesdropping terminals, this degree of freedom can be used to effectively suppress the information leakage towards such malicious terminals. This leads to significant potential secrecy gains in IRS-aided MIMO systems. This work exploits these gains via a tractable joint design of downlink beamformers and IRS phase-shifts. In this respect, we consider a generic IRS-aided MIMO wiretap setting and invoke fractional programming and alternating optimization techniques to iteratively find the beamformers and phase-shifts that maximize the achievable weighted secrecy sum-rate. Our design concludes two low-complexity algorithms for joint beamforming and phase-shift tuning. Performance of the proposed algorithms are numerically evaluated and compared to the benchmark. The results reveal that integrating IRSs into MIMO systems not only boosts the secrecy performance of the system, but also improves the robustness against passive eavesdropping.

A fully discrete low-regularity integrator for the 1D periodic cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation

A fully discrete and fully explicit low-regularity integrator is constructed for the one-dimensional periodic cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The method can be implemented by using fast Fourier transform with $O(N\ln N)$ operations at every time level, and is proved to have an $L^2$-norm error bound of $O(τ\sqrt{\ln(1/τ)}+N^{-1})$ for $H^1$ initial data, without requiring any CFL condition, where $τ$ and $N$ denote the temporal stepsize and the degree of freedoms in the spatial discretisation, respectively.

Large global solutions for energy-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation

In this work, we consider the 3D defocusing energy-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_t u+Δu =|u|^4 u,\quad (t,x)\in \mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}^3$. Applying the outgoing and incoming decomposition presented in the recent work \cite{BECEANU-DENG-SOFFER-WU-2021}, we prove that any radial function $f$ with $χ_{\leq1}f\in H^1$ and $χ_{\geq1}f\in H^{s_0}$ with $\frac{5}{6}<s_0<1$, there exists an outgoing component $f_+$ (or incoming component $f_-$) of $f$, such that when the initial data is $f_+$, then the corresponding solution is globally well-posed and scatters forward in time; when the initial data is $f_-$, then the corresponding solution is globally well-posed and scatters backward in time.

Large global solutions for nonlinear Schrödinger equations II, mass-supercritical, energy-subcritical cases

In this paper, we consider the defocusing mass-supercritical, energy-subcritical nonlinear Schrödinger equation, $$ i\partial_{t}u+Δu= |u|^p u, \quad (t,x)\in \mathbb R^{d+1}, $$ with $p\in (\frac4d,\frac4{d-2})$. We prove that under some restrictions on $d,p$, any radial function in the rough space $H^{s_0}(\mathbb R^d),\textit{for some } s_0<s_c$ with the support away from the origin, there exists an incoming/outgoing decomposition, such that the initial data in the outgoing part leads to the global well-posedness and scattering forward in time; while the initial data in the incoming part leads to the global well-posedness and scattering backward in time. The proof is based on Phase-Space analysis of the nonlinear dynamics.

Analysis of misinformation during the COVID-19 outbreak in China: cultural, social and political entanglements

COVID-19 resulted in an infodemic, which could erode public trust, impede virus containment, and outlive the pandemic itself. The evolving and fragmented media landscape is a key driver of the spread of misinformation. Using misinformation identified by the fact-checking platform by Tencent and posts on Weibo, our results showed that the evolution of misinformation follows an issue-attention cycle, pertaining to topics such as city lockdown, cures, and preventions, and school reopening. Sources of authority weigh in on these topics, but their influence is complicated by peoples' pre-existing beliefs and cultural practices. Finally, social media has a complicated relationship with established or legacy media systems. Sometimes they reinforce each other, but in general, social media may have a topic cycle of its own making. Our findings shed light on the distinct characteristics of misinformation during the COVID-19 and offer insights into combating misinformation in China and across the world at large.

Embedded exponential-type low-regularity integrators for KdV equation under rough data

In this paper, we introduce a novel class of embedded exponential-type low-regularity integrators (ELRIs) for solving the KdV equation and establish their optimal convergence results under rough initial data. The schemes are explicit and efficient to implement. By rigorous error analysis, we first show that the ELRI scheme provides the first order accuracy in $H^γ$ for initial data in $H^{γ+1}$ for $γ>\frac12$. Moreover, by adding two more correction terms to the first order scheme, we show a second order ELRI that provides the second order accuracy in $H^γ$ for initial data in $H^{γ+3}$ for $γ\ge0$. The proposed ELRIs further reduce the regularity requirement of existing methods so far for optimal convergence. The theoretical results are confirmed by numerical experiments, and comparisons with existing methods illustrate the efficiency of the new methods.

Optimal convergence of a second order low-regularity integrator for the KdV equation

In this paper, we establish the optimal convergence result of a second order exponential-type integrator from (136, Numer. Math., 2017) for solving the KdV equation under rough initial data. The scheme is explicit and efficient to implement. By rigorous error analysis, we show that the scheme provides the second order accuracy in $H^γ$ for initial data in $H^{γ+4}$ for any $γ\geq0$, where the regularity requirement is lower than the classical methods. The result is confirmed by numerical experiments and comparisons are made with the Strang splitting scheme.

Optimal small data Scattering for the generalized derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations

In this work, we consider the following generalized derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation \begin{align*} i\partial_t u+\partial_{xx} u +i |u|^{2σ}\partial_x u=0, \quad (t,x)\in \mathbb R\times \mathbb R. \end{align*} We prove that when $σ\ge 2$, the solution is global and scattering when the initial data is small in $H^s(\mathbb R)$, $\frac 12\leq s\leq1$. Moreover, we show that when $0<σ<2$, there exist a class of solitary wave solutions $\{ϕ_c\}$ satisfying $$ \|ϕ_c\|_{H^1(\mathbb R)}\to 0, $$ when $c$ tends to some endpoint, which is against the small data scattering statement. Therefore, in this model, the exponent $σ\ge2$ is optimal for small data scattering. We remark that this exponent is larger than the short range exponent and the Strauss exponent.

Stability of multi-solitons for the derivative nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equation

The nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equation with derivative cubic nonlinearity admits a family of solitons, which are orbitally stable in the energy space. In this work, we prove the orbital stability of multi-solitons configurations in the energy space, under suitable assumptions on the speeds and frequencies of the composing solitons. The main ingredients of the proof are modulation theory, energy coercivity and monotonicity properties.

Global well-posedness for periodic generalized KdV equation

In this paper, we show the global well-posedness for periodic gKdV equations in the space $H^s(\mathbb{T})$, $s\ge \frac12$ for quartic case, and $s> \frac59$ for quintic case. These improve the previous results of I-team in 2004. In particular, the result is sharp for quintic case. The main approaches are the I-method combining with the resonance decomposition developed by Miao et al in 2010, and a bilinear Strichartz estimate in periodic setting.

Global well-posedness for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with derivative in energy space

In this paper, we prove that there exists some small $\varepsilon_*>0$, such that the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (DNLS) is global well-posedness in the energy space, provided that the initial data $u_0\in H^1(\mathbb{R})$ satisfies $\|u_0\|_{L^2}<\sqrt{2π}+\varepsilon_*$. This result shows us that there are no blow up solutions whose masses slightly exceed $2π$, even if their energies are negative. This phenomenon is much different from the behavior of nonlinear Schrödinger equation with critical nonlinearity. The technique is a variational argument together with the momentum conservation law. Further, for the DNLS on half-line $\mathbb{R}^+$, we show the blow-up for the solution with negative energy.

On Blow-up criterion for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

The blowup is studied for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $iu_{t}+Δu+ |u|^{p-1}u=0$ with $p$ is odd and $p\ge 1+\frac 4{N-2}$ (the energy-critical or energy-supercritical case). It is shown that the solution with negative energy $E(u_0)<0$ blows up in finite or infinite time. A new proof is also presented for the previous result in \cite{HoRo2}, in which a similar result but more general in a case of energy-subcritical was shown.

The Cauchy problem for the two dimensional Euler-Poisson system

The Euler-Poisson system is a fundamental two-fluid model to describe the dynamics of the plasma consisting of compressible electrons and a uniform ion background. In the 3D case Guo first constructed a global smooth irrotational solution by using dispersive Klein-Gordon effect. It has been conjectured that same results should hold in the two-dimensional case. In our recent work, we proved the existence of a family of smooth solutions by constructing the wave operators for the 2D system. In this work we completely settle the 2D Cauchy problem.

Scattering for the beam equation

In this paper, we study the scattering for the nonlinear beam equation $u_{tt}+Δ^2u+mu+μ|u|^{p-1}u=0$. Our results include two aspects. In the defocusing case we show that the scattering holds for $d=1$, which extends the result in \cite{Pau-Beam} to one dimension. In the focusing case, we show that the scattering holds in $\R^d (d\ge 1)$ when the energy $E(u_0,u_1)<E(R,0)$ and $\|Δ u_0\|_{L^2}^2+m\|u_0\|_{L^2}^2<\|ΔR\|_{L^2}^2+m\|R\|_{L^2}^2$ for ground state $R$. The difficulties lie the absence of the scaling invariance and a Galilean transformation for the equation to control the Momentum vector.

Dynamics for the focusing, energy-critical nonlinear Hartree equation

In \cite{LiMZ:e-critical Har, MiaoXZ:09:e-critical radial Har}, the dynamics of the solutions for the focusing energy-critical Hartree equation have been classified when $E(u_0)<E(W)$, where $W$ is the ground state. In this paper, we continue the study on the dynamics of the radial solutions with the threshold energy. Our arguments closely follow those in \cite{DuyMerle:NLS:ThresholdSolution, DuyMerle:NLW:ThresholdSolution, DuyRouden:NLS:ThresholdSolution, LiZh:NLS, LiZh:NLW}. The new ingredient is that we show that the positive solution of the nonlocal elliptic equation in $L^{\frac{2d}{d-2}}(\R^d)$ is regular and unique by the moving plane method in its global form, which plays an important role in the spectral theory of the linearized operator and the dynamics behavior of the threshold solution.

Global well-posedness for Schrödinger equation with derivative in $H^{1/2}(\R)$

In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with derivative in $H^s(\R)$. This equation was known to be the local well-posedness for $s\geq \frac12$ (Takaoka,1999), ill-posedness for $s<\frac12$ (Biagioni and Linares, 2001, etc.) and global well-posedness for $s>\frac12$ (I-team, 2002). In this paper, we show that it is global well-posedness in $H^{1/2(\R)$. The main approach is the third generation I-method combined with some additional resonant decomposition technique. The resonant decomposition is applied to control the singularity coming from the resonant interaction.

The Cauchy Problem of the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries System

We study the Cauchy problem of the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system. First, we establish the local well-posedness results, which improve the results of Corcho, Linares (2007). Moreover, we obtain some ill-posedness results, which show that they are sharp in some well-posedness thresholds. Particularly, we obtain the local well-posedness for the initial data in $H^{-{3/16}+}(\R)\times H^{-{3/4}+}(\R)$ in the resonant case, it is almost the optimal except the endpoint. At last we establish the global well-posedness results in $H^s(\R)\times H^s(\R)$ when $s>\dfrac{1}{2}$ no matter in the resonant case or in the non-resonant case, which improve the results of Pecher (2005).

preprint2009arXiv

The low regularity global solutions for the critical generalized KdV equation

We prove that the Cauchy problem of the mass-critical generalized KdV equation is globally well-posed in Sobolev spaces $H^s(\R)$ for $s>6/13$. Of course, we require that the mass is strictly less than that of the ground state in the focusing case. The main approach is the "I-method" together with the multilinear correction analysis. Moreover, we use some "partially refined" argument to lower the upper control of the multiplier in the resonant interactions. The result improves the previous works of Fonseca, Linares, Ponce (2003) and Farah (2009).
