Global renormalized solutions to Boltzmann systems modeling mixture gases of monatomic and polyatomic species

Inspired by DiPerna-Lions' work \cite{Diperna-Lions}, we study the renormalized solutions to the large-data Cauchy problem of the Boltzmann systems modeling mixture gases of monatomic and polyatomic species, in which the distribution functions $f_α$ characterized the polyatomic species contain the continuous internal energy variable $I \in \mathbb{R}_+$. We first construct the smooth approximated problem and establish the corresponding uniform and physically natural bounds. Then, by employing the averaged velocity (-internal energy) lemma, we can show that the weak $L^1$ limit of the approximated solution is exactly a renormalized solution what we required. Moreover, we also justify that the constructed renormalized solution subjects to the entropy inequality.

A scaling limit from the wave map to the heat flow into $\mathbb{S}^2$

In this paper we study a limit connecting a scaled wave map with the heat flow into the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$. We show quantitatively how that the two equations are connected by means of an initial layer correction. This limit is motivated as a first step into understanding the limit of zero inertia for the hyperbolic-parabolic Ericksen-Leslie's liquid crystal model.

Coupled Self-Organized Hydrodynamics and Navier-Stokes models: local well-posedness and the limit from the Self-Organized Kinetic-fluid models

A coupled system of self-organized hydrodynamics and Navier-Stokes equations (SOH-NS), which models self-propelled particles in a viscous fluid, was recently derived by Degond et al. \cite{DMVY-2017-arXiv}, starting from a micro-macro particle system of Vicsek-Navier-Stokes model, through an intermediate step of a self-organized kinetic-kinetic model by multiple coarse-graining processes. We first transfer SOH-NS into a non-singular system by stereographic projection, then prove the local in time well-posedness of classical solutions by energy method. Furthermore, employing the Hilbert expansion approach, we justify the hydrodynamic limit from the self-organized kinetic-fluid model to macroscopic dynamics. This provides the first analytically rigorous justification of the modeling and asymptotic analysis in \cite{DMVY-2017-arXiv}.

From Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system to incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson system: convergence for classical solutions

For the one-species Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann (VPB) system in the scaling under which the moments of the fluctuations formally converge to the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson (NSFP) system, we prove the uniform estimates with respect to the Knudsen number $ε$ for the fluctuations. As a consequence, the existence of the global-in-time classical solutions of VPB with all $ε\in (0,1]$ is established in whole space under small size of initial data, and the convergence to incompressible NSFP as $ε$ go to 0 is rigorously justified.

On well-posedness of Ericksen-Leslie's hyperbolic incompressible liquid crystal model

We study the Ericksen-Leslie's hyperbolic incompressible liquid crystal model. Under some constraints on the Leslie coefficients which ensure the basic energy law is dissipative, we prove the local-in-time existence and uniqueness of the classical solution to the system with finite initial energy. Furthermore, with an additional assumption on the coefficients which provides a damping effect, and the smallness of the initial energy, the unique global classical solution can be established.

From Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann system to two-fluid incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Maxwell system with Ohm's law: convergence for classical solutions

For the two-species Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann (VMB) system with the scaling under which the moments of the fluctuations to the global Maxwellians formally converge to the two-fluid incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Maxwell (NSFM) system with Ohm's law, we prove the uniform estimates with respect to Knudsen number $\eps$ for the fluctuations. As consequences, the existence of the global in time classical solutions of VMB with all $\eps \in (0,1]$ is established. Furthermore, the convergence of the fluctuations of the solutions of VMB to the classical solutions of NSFM with Ohm's law is rigorously justified. This limit was justified in the recent breakthrough of Arsénio and Saint-Raymond \cite{Arsenio-SRM-2016} from renormalized solutions of VMB to dissipative solutions of incompressible viscous electro-magneto-hydrodynamics under the corresponding scaling. In this sense, our result gives a classical solution analogue of the corresponding limit in \cite{Arsenio-SRM-2016}.
