Doubly Robust Off-Policy Evaluation for Ranking Policies under the Cascade Behavior Model

In real-world recommender systems and search engines, optimizing ranking decisions to present a ranked list of relevant items is critical. Off-policy evaluation (OPE) for ranking policies is thus gaining a growing interest because it enables performance estimation of new ranking policies using only logged data. Although OPE in contextual bandits has been studied extensively, its naive application to the ranking setting faces a critical variance issue due to the huge item space. To tackle this problem, previous studies introduce some assumptions on user behavior to make the combinatorial item space tractable. However, an unrealistic assumption may, in turn, cause serious bias. Therefore, appropriately controlling the bias-variance tradeoff by imposing a reasonable assumption is the key for success in OPE of ranking policies. To achieve a well-balanced bias-variance tradeoff, we propose the Cascade Doubly Robust estimator building on the cascade assumption, which assumes that a user interacts with items sequentially from the top position in a ranking. We show that the proposed estimator is unbiased in more cases compared to existing estimators that make stronger assumptions. Furthermore, compared to a previous estimator based on the same cascade assumption, the proposed estimator reduces the variance by leveraging a control variate. Comprehensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world data demonstrate that our estimator leads to more accurate OPE than existing estimators in a variety of settings.

Low-lying level structure of $Λ$ hypernuclei and spin dependence of $ΛN$ interaction with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics

$ΛN$ spin-spin and spin-orbit splittings in low-lying excitation spectra are investigated for $p$-shell $Λ$ hypernuclei on the basis of the microscopic structure calculation within the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics, where the $ΛN$ $G$-matrix interaction derived from the baryon-baryon interaction model ESC (extended soft core) is used. It is found that the ground-state spin-parity is systematically reproduced in the $p$-shell $Λ$ hypernuclei by tuning the $ΛN$ spin-spin and spin-orbit interactions so as to reproduce the experimental data of $^{4}_Λ$H, $^{7}_Λ$Li and $^9_Λ$Be. Furthermore, we also focus on the excitation energies of the excited doublets as well as the energy shifts of them by the addition of a $Λ$ particle.

Quantitative characterization of highly efficient correlated photon-pair source using biexciton resonance

A high efficiency method for the generation of correlated photon pairs accompanied by a reliable means to characterize the efficiency of that process is needed in the study of correlated photon pairs and entangled states involving more than three photons, which have important potential applications in quantum information and quantum communication. In this study, we report the first characterization of the efficiency of generation of correlated photon pairs emitted from a CuCl single crystal using the biexciton-resonance hyper-parametric scattering (RHPS) method which is the highly efficient method of generation of correlated photon pairs. In order to characterize the generation efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio of correlated photon pairs using this method, we investigated the excitation density dependence on the photon counting rate and coincidence counting rate under resonant excitation. The excitation density dependence shows that the power characteristics of the photon counting rates changes from linear to quadratic dependence of the excitation density. This behavior represents a superposition of contributions from correlated photon pairs and non-correlated photons. Photon counting signals in this study were recorded as time-tag data, which provide the photon counting rate and coincidence counting rate simultaneously, and improve the coincidence counting rate by the factor of 200 compared to that obtained in previous work [K. Edamatsu $\it{et\ al}$. Nature $\bf{431}$, 167-170 (2004)]. The analysis of the excitation density dependence shows that one photon-pair is produced by a pump pulse with $2 \times 10^6$ photons. Moreover, the generation efficiency of this method is improved by a factor of $10^7$ compared to that of several methods based on the $χ^{(3)}$ parametric process.

Superdeformed $Λ$ hypernuclei with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics

The response to the addition of a $Λ$ hyperon is investigated for the deformed states such as superdeformation in $^{41}_Λ$Ca, $^{46}_Λ$Sc and $^{48}_Λ$Sc. In the present study, we use the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) model. It is pointed out that many kinds of deformed bands appear in $^{45}$Sc and $^{47}$Sc. Especially, it is found that there exists superdeformed states in $^{45}$Sc. By the addition of a $Λ$ particle to $^{40}$Ca, $^{45}$Sc and $^{47}$Sc, it is predicted, for the first time, that the superdeformed states exist in the hypernuclei $^{41}_Λ$Ca and $^{46}_Λ$Sc. The manifestation of the dependence of the $Λ$-separation energy on nuclear deformation such as spherical, normal deformation and superdeformation is shown in the energy spectra of $^{41}_Λ$Ca, $^{46}_Λ$Sc and $^{48}_Λ$Sc hypernuclei.

Structure of $^{10}_Λ$Be and $^{10}_Λ$B hypernuclei studied with the four-body cluster model

The structure of the isodoublet hypernuclei, $^{10}_Λ$B and $^{10}_Λ$Be within the framework of an $α+α+Λ+N$ four-body cluster model is studied. Interactions between the constituent subunits are determined so as to reproduce reasonably well the observed low-energy properties of the $αα$, $αN$, $αΛ$, $ααΛ$ and $ααN$ subsystems. Furthermore, the two-body $ΛN$ interaction is adjusted so as to reproduce the $0^+$-$1^+$ splitting of $^4_Λ$H. The $Λ$ binding energies of $^{10}_Λ$B and $^{10}_Λ$Be are 8.76 MeV and 8.94 MeV, respectively. The energy splitting of the $1^-$-$2^-$ levels in $^{10}_Λ$B is 0.08 MeV, which does not contradict the experimental report in BNL-E930. An even-state $ΛN$ charge symmetry breaking (CSB) interaction determined from the A=4 systems works repulsively by +0.1 MeV (attractively by -0.1 MeV) in $^{10}_Λ$Be ($^{10}_Λ$B). We discuss a possibility that an odd-state CSB interaction improves the fitting to the experimental data of A=10 double $Λ$ hypernuclei.
