Gravitational waves from dark matter collapse in a star

We investigate the collapse of clusters of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) in the core of a Sun-like star and the possible formation of mini-black holes and the emission of gravitational waves. When the number of WIMPs is small, thermal pressure balances the WIMP cluster's self gravity. If the number of WIMPs is larger than a critical number, thermal pressure cannot balance gravity and the cluster contracts. If WIMPs are collisionless and bosonic, the cluster collapses directly to form a mini-black hole. For fermionic WIMPs, the cluster contracts until it is sustained by Fermi pressure, forming a small compact object. If the fermionic WIMP mass is smaller than $4\times 10^2$ GeV, the radius of the compact object is larger than its Schwarzschild radius and Fermi pressure temporally sustains its self gravity, halting the formation of a black hole. If the fermionic WIMP mass is larger than $4\times 10^2$ GeV, the radius is smaller than its Schwarzschild radius and the compact object becomes a mini-black hole. If the WIMP mass is 1 TeV, the size of the black hole will be approximately 2.5 cm and ultra high frequency gravitational waves will be emitted during black hole formation. The central frequency $f_c$ of ringdown gravitational waves emitted from the black hole will be approximately 2 GHz. To detect the ringdown gravitational waves, the detector's noise must be below $\sqrt{S_h(f_c)}\approx 10^{-30}/\sqrt{\rm Hz}$.

Teichmüller parameters for multiple BTZ black hole spacetime

We investigate the Teichmüller parameters for a Euclidean multiple BTZ black hole spacetime. To induce a complex structure in the asymptotic boundary of such a spacetime, we consider the limit in which two black holes are at a large distance from each other. In this limit, we can approximately determine the period matrix (i.e., the Teichmüller parameters) for the spacetime boundary by using a pinching parameter. The Teichmüller parameters are essential in describing the partition function for the boundary conformal field theory (CFT). We provide an interpretation of the partition function for the genus two extremal boundary CFT proposed by Gaiotto and Yin that it is relevant to double BTZ black hole spacetime.

Dynamical instability in a relativistic cylindrical shell composed of counter rotating particles

We give a perturbative analysis for an infinitesimally thin cylindrical shell composed of counter rotating collisionless particles, originally devised by Apostolatos and Thorne. They found a static solution of the shell and concluded by C-energy argument that it is stable. Recently, the present authors and Ida reanalyzed this system by evaluating the C-energy on the future null infinity and found that the system has an instability, though it was not shown how the system is unstable. In this paper, it is shown in the framework of the linear perturbation theory that, if the constituent particles move slowly, the static shell is unstable in the sense that the perturbation of its circumferential radius oscillates with exponentially growing amplitude, whereas if the speed of the constituent particle exceeds a critical value, the shell just expands or contracts exponentially with time.

Particle creation in Bose--Einstein condensates: Theoretical formulation based on conserving gapless mean field theory

We formulate particle creation phenomena in Bose--Einstein condensates in terms of conserving gapless mean field theory for weakly interacting Bose gases. The particle creation spectrum is calculated by rediagonalizing the Bogoliubov--de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian in mean field theory. The conservation implies that quasiparticle creation is accompanied by quantum backreaction to the condensates. Particle creation in this mean field theory is found to be equivalent to that in quantum field theory (QFT) in curved spacetime. An expression is obtained for an effective metric affected by quantum backreaction. The formula for the particle creation spectrum obtained in terms of QFT in curved spacetime is shown to be the same as that given by rediagonalizing the BdG Hamiltonian.

Spacetime analogue of Bose-Einstein condensates: Bogoliubov-de Gennes formulation

We construct quantum field theory in an analogue curved spacetime in Bose-Einstein condensates based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations, by exactly relating quantum particles in curved spacetime with Bogoliubov quasiparticle excitations in Bose-Einstein condensates. Here, we derive a simple formula relating the two, which can be used to calculate the particle creation spectrum by solving the time-dependent Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. Using our formulation, we numerically investigate particle creation in an analogue expanding Universe which can be expressed as Bogoliubov quasiparticles in an expanding Bose-Einstein condensate. We obtain its spectrum, which follows the thermal Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, the temperature of which is experimentally attainable. Our derivation of the analogy is useful for general Bose-Einstein condensates and not limited to homogeneous ones, and our simulation is the first example of particle creations by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation in an inhomogeneous condensate.

Thermodynamics of four-dimensional black objects in the warped compactification

We reinvestigate the thermodynamics of black objects (holes and strings) in four-dimensional braneworld models that are originally constructed by Emparan, Horowitz and Myers based on the anti-de Sitter (AdS) C-metric. After proving the uniqueness of slicing the AdS C-metric, we derive thermodynamic quantities of the black objects by means of the Euclidean formulation and find that we have no necessity of requiring any regularization to calculate their classical action. We show that there exist the Bekenstein-Hawking law and the thermodynamic first law. The thermodynamic mass of the localized black hole on a flat brane is negative, and it differs from the one previously derived. We discuss the thermodynamic stabilities and show that the BTZ black string is more stable than the localized black holes in a canonical ensemble, except for an extreme case. We also find a braneworld analogue of the Hawking-Page transition between the BTZ black string and thermal AdS branes. The localized black holes on a de Sitter brane is discussed by considering Nariai instanton, comparing the study of "black cigar" in the five-dimensional braneworld model.
