Automatic Storage Structure Selection for hybrid Workload

In the use of database systems, the design of the storage engine and data model directly affects the performance of the database when performing queries. Therefore, the users of the database need to select the storage engine and design data model according to the workload encountered. However, in a hybrid workload, the query set of the database is dynamically changing, and the design of its optimal storage structure is also changing. Motivated by this, we propose an automatic storage structure selection system based on learning cost, which is used to dynamically select the optimal storage structure of the database under hybrid workloads. In the system, we introduce a machine learning method to build a cost model for the storage engine, and a column-oriented data layout generation algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed system can choose the optimal combination of storage engine and data model according to the current workload, which greatly improves the performance of the default storage structure. And the system is designed to be compatible with different storage engines for easy use in practical applications.

Synthesis of Fe$_3$O$_4$ nanoparticles and their magnetic properties

Fe$_3$O$_4$ magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized by a co-precipitation method using sodium citrate and oleic acid as modifiers. Phase composition and microstructure analysis indicate that the sodium citrate and oleic acid have been successfully grafted onto the surface of Fe$_3$O$_4$ MNPs. The magnetic behaviors reveal that the modification can decrease the saturation magnetization of Fe$_3$O$_4$ MNPs due to the surface effect. Fe$_3$O$_4$ MNPs modified by sodiumcitrate and oleic acid show excellent dispersion capability, which should be ascribed to the great reduction of high surface energy and dipolar attraction of the nanoparticles.

On the Construction of Low-Energy Cislunar and Trans-lunar Transfers Based on the Libration Points

There exist cislunar and trans-lunar libration points near the Moon, which are referred as the LL1 and LL2 points respectively and can generate the different types of low-energy trajectories transferring from Earth to Moon. The time-dependent analytic model including the gravitational forces from the Sun, Earth and Moon is employed to investigate the energy-minimal and practical transfer trajectories. However, different from the circular restricted three-body problem, the equivalent gravitational equilibria are defined according to the geometry of instantaneous Hill's boundary due to the gravitational perturbation from the Sun. The relationship between the altitudes of periapsis and eccentricities is achieved from the Poincaré mapping for all the lunar captured trajectories, which presents the statistical feature of the fuel cost and captured orbital elements rather than generating a specified Moon-captured segment. The minimum energy required by the captured trajectory on a lunar circular orbit is deduced in the spatial bi-circular model. It is presented that the asymptotical behaviors of invariant manifolds approaching to/from the libration points or halo orbits are destroyed by the solar perturbation. In fact, the energy-minimal cislunar transfer trajectory is acquired by transiting LL1 point, while the energy-minimal trans-lunar transfer trajectory is obtained by transiting LL2 point. Finally, the transfer opportunities for the practical trajectories escaped from the Earth and captured by the Moon are yielded by transiting halo orbits near LL1 and LL2 points, which can be used to generate the whole trajectories.

On blowup of classical solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations

We study the finite time blow up of smooth solutions to the Compressible Navier-Stokes system when the initial data contain vacuums. We prove that any classical solutions of viscous compressible fluids without heat conduction will blow up in finite time, as long as the initial data has an isolated mass group (see definition in the paper). The results hold regardless of either the size of the initial data or the far fields being vacuum or not. This improves the blowup results of Xin (1998) by removing the crucial assumptions that the initial density has compact support and the smooth solution has finite total energy. Furthermore, the analysis here also yields that any classical solutions of viscous compressible fluids without heat conduction in bounded domains or periodic domains will blow up in finite time, if the initial data have an isolated mass group satisfying some suitable conditions.
