Color-octet contributions for $J/ψ$ inclusive production at B factories in soft gluon factorization

We have studied color-octet contributions for $J/ψ$ inclusive production at B factories, i.e., $e^+e^-\to J/ψ(^3P_J^{[8]},^1S_0^{[8]}) + X_{\mathrm{non}-c\bar c}$, using the soft gluon factorization (SGF) approach, in which the $J/ψ$ energy spectrum is expressed in a form of perturbatively calculable short-distance hard parts convoluted with one-dimensional soft gluon distributions (SGDs). The series of velocity corrections originated from kinematic effect can be naturally resummed in this approach. Short-distance hard parts have been calculated analytically to next-to-leading order in $α_s$. Renormalization group equations for SGDs have been derived and solved, which resums Sudakov logarithms originated from soft gluon emissions. Our final result gives a upper bound for color-octet matrix elements consistent with that extracted from hadron colliders. This may relieve the well-known universality problem in the NRQCD factorization. As a comparison, we also analytically calculated short-distance hard parts in the NRQCD factorization, with Sudakov logarithms resummed by using soft collinear effective theory. The comparison shows that velocity corrections from kinematic effect, which have been resummed in SGF, are significant for phenomenological study. Furthermore, it is found that Sudakov logarithms originated from soft gluon emissions are very important, while it is not the case for Sudakov logarithms originated from jet function. Therefore, the partial Sudakov resummation in SGF has already captured the main physics.

Multiloop corrections for collider processes using auxiliary mass flow

With a key improvement, the auxiliary mass flow method is now able to compute Feynman integrals encountered in cutting-edge collider processes. We have successfully applied it to compute some integrals involved in two-loop electroweak corrections to $e^+e^-\to HZ$, two-loop QCD corrections to $3j$, $W/Z/H+2j$, $t\bar{t}H$ and $4j$ production at hadron colliders, and three-loop QCD corrections to $t\bar{t}$ production at hadron colliders, all of which are crucial for precision frontier in collider physics in the following decade. Our results are important building blocks and benchmarks for future studies of these processes.

Extraction of Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order PDFs from Lattice QCD Calculations

We present for the first time complete next-to-next-to-leading-order coefficient functions to match flavor non-singlet quark correlation functions in position space, which are calculable in lattice QCD, to parton distribution functions (PDFs). Using PDFs extracted from experimental data and our calculated matching coefficients, we predict valence-quark correlation functions that can be confronted by lattice QCD calculations. The uncertainty of our predictions is greatly reduced with higher order matching coefficients. By performing Fourier transformation, we also obtain matching coefficients for corresponding quasi-PDFs and pseudo-PDFs. Our method of calculations can be readily generalized to evaluate the matching coefficients for sea-quark and gluon correlation functions, putting the program to extract partonic structure of hadrons from lattice QCD calculations to be comparable with and complementary to that from experimental measurements.

Calculation of Feynman loop integration and phase-space integration via auxiliary mass flow

We extend the auxiliary-mass-flow (AMF) method originally developed for Feynman loop integration to calculate integrals involving also phase-space integration. Flow of the auxiliary mass from the boundary ($\infty$) to the physical point ($0^+$) is obtained by numerically solving differential equations with respective to the auxiliary mass. For problems with two or more kinematical invariants, the AMF method can be combined with traditional differential equation method by providing systematical boundary conditions and highly nontrivial self-consistent check. The method is described in detail with a pedagogical example of $e^+e^-\rightarrow γ^* \rightarrow t\bar{t}+X$ at NNLO. We show that the AMF method can systematically and efficiently calculate integrals to high precision.

Complete reduction of integrals in two-loop five-light-parton scattering amplitudes

We reduce all the most complicated Feynman integrals in two-loop five-light-parton scattering amplitudes to basic master integrals, while other integrals can be reduced even easier. Our results are expressed as systems of linear relations in the block-triangular form, very efficient for numerical calculations. Our results are crucial for complete next-to-next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics calculations for three-jet, photon, and/or hadron production at hadron colliders. To determine the block-triangular relations, we develop an efficient and general method, which may provide a practical solution to the bottleneck problem of reducing multiloop multiscale integrals.

Exclusive quarkonium production or decay in soft gluon factorization

In this paper, we study the application of the recently proposed soft gluon factorization (SGF) to exclusive quarkonium production or decay. We find that in the nonrelativistic QCD factorization framework there are too many nonperturbative parameters. Thanks to the factorization of kinematical physics from dynamical physics, the SGF significantly reduces the number of nonperturbative parameters. Therefore, the SGF can improve our predictive power of exclusive quarkonium production or decay. By applying to $η_c+γ$ production at B-factories, our result is the closest one to data among all theoretical calculations.

Pion valence quark distribution from current-current correlation in lattice QCD

We extract the pion valence quark distribution $q^π_{\rm v}(x)$ from lattice QCD (LQCD) calculated matrix elements of spacelike correlations of one vector and one axial vector current analyzed in terms of QCD collinear factorization, using a new short-distance matching coefficient calculated to one-loop accuracy. We derive the Ioffe time distribution of the two-current correlations in the physical limit by investigating the finite lattice spacing, volume, quark mass, and higher-twist dependencies in a simultaneous fit of matrix elements computed on four gauge ensembles. We find remarkable consistency between our extracted $q^π_{\rm v}(x)$ and that obtained from experimental data across the entire $x$-range. Further, we demonstrate that the one-loop matching coefficient relating the LQCD matrix computed in position space to the $q_{\rm v}^π(x)$ in momentum space has well-controlled behavior with Ioffe time. This justifies that LQCD calculated current-current correlations are good observables for extracting partonic structures by using QCD factorization, which complements to the global effort to extract partonic structure from experimental data.

Theory for quarkonium: from NRQCD factorization to soft gluon factorization

We demonstrate that the recently proposed soft gluon factorization (SGF) is equivalent to the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization for heavy quarkonium production or decay, which means that for any given process these two factorization theories are either both valid or both violated. We use two methods to achieve this conclusion. In the first method, we apply the two factorization theories to the physical process $J/ψ\to e^+e^-$. Our explicit calculation shows that both SGF and NRQCD can correctly reproduce low energy physics of full QCD, and thus the two factorizations are equivalent. In the second method, by using equations of motion we successfully deduce SGF from NRQCD effective field theory. By identifying SGF with NRQCD factorization, we establish relations between the two factorization theories and prove the generalized Gremm-Kapustin relations as a by product. Comparing with the NRQCD factorization, the advantage of SGF is that it resums the series of relativistic corrections originated from kinematic effects to all powers, which gives rise to a better convergence in relativistic expansion.

Relativistic effect of $J/ψ$ hadroproduction in large $p_T$ region

By combining NRQCD factorization and collinear factorization, we compute a series of relativistic corrections for $J/ψ$ hadroproduction to all orders in $v^2$ at large $p_T$ limit. The $v^2$ expansion converges well for all channels. We find that the ratio of relativistic correction term to the corresponding leading term is independent of kinematic variables for any channel, which generalizes the proportional relations found in previous works to all orders.

Fragmentation contributions to hadroproduction of prompt $J/ψ$, $χ_{cJ}$, and $ψ(2S)$ states

We compute fragmentation corrections to hadroproduction of the quarkonium states $J/ψ$, $χ_{cJ}$, and $ψ(2S)$ at leading power in $m_c^2/p_T^2$, where $m_c$ is the charm-quark mass and $p_T$ is the quarkonium transverse momentum. The computation is carried out in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD. We include corrections to the parton-production cross sections through next-to-leading order in the strong coupling $α_s$ and corrections to the fragmentation functions through second order in $α_s$. We also sum leading logarithms of $p_T^2/m_c^2$ to all orders in perturbation theory. We find that, when we combine these leading-power fragmentation corrections with fixed-order calculations through next-to-leading order in $α_s$, we are able to obtain good fits for $p_T\geq 10$ GeV to hadroproduction cross sections that were measured at the Tevatron and the LHC. Using values for the nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements that we extract from the cross-section fits, we make predictions for the polarizations of the quarkonium states. We obtain good agreement with measurements of the polarizations, with the exception of the CDF Run II measurement of the prompt $J/ψ$ polarization, for which the agreement is only fair. In the predictions for the prompt-$J/ψ$ cross sections and polarizations, we take into account feeddown from the $χ_{cJ}$ and $ψ(2S)$ states.

Practical quasi parton distribution functions

A completely new strategy to calculate parton distribution functions on the lattice has recently been proposed. In this method, lattice calculable observables, called quasi distributions, are related to normal distributions. The quasi distributions are known to contain power-law UV divergences arise from a Wilson line in the non-local operator, while the normal distributions only have logatithmic UV divergences. We propose possible method to subtract the power divegence to make the matching of the quasi with the normal distributions well-defined. We also demonstrate the matching of the quasi quark distribution between continuum and lattice implementing the power divergence subtraction. The matching calculations are carried out by one-loop perturbation.

Quarkonium Production in an Improved Color Evaporation Model

We propose an improved version of the color evaporation model to describe heavy quarkonium production. In contrast to the traditional color evaporation model, we impose the constraint that the invariant mass of the intermediate heavy quark-antiquark pair to be larger than the mass of produced quarkonium. We also introduce a momentum shift between heavy quark-antiquark pair and the quarkonium. Numerical calculations show that our model can describe the charmonium yields as well as ratio of $ψ^\prime$ over $J/ψ$ better than the traditional color evaporation model.

$J/ψ$ production and suppression in high energy proton-nucleus collisions

We apply a Color Glass Condensate+Non-Relativistic QCD (CGC+NRQCD) framework to compute $J/ψ$ production in deuteron-nucleus collisions at RHIC and proton-nucleus collisions at the LHC. Our results match smoothly at high $p_\perp$ to a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD + NRQCD computation. Excellent agreement is obtained for $p_\perp$ spectra at RHIC and LHC for central and forward rapidities, as well as for the normalized ratio $R_{pA}$ of these results to spectra in proton-proton collisions. In particular, we observe that the $R_{pA}$ data is strongly bounded by our computations of the same for each of the individual NRQCD channels; this result provides strong evidence that our description is robust against uncertainties in initial conditions and hadronization mechanisms.

$η_c$ production at LHC and indications on the understanding of $J/ψ$ production

We present a complete evaluation for the prompt $η_c$ production at the LHC at next-to-leading order in $α_s$ in nonrelativistic QCD. By assuming heavy quark spin symmetry, the recently observed $η_c$ production data by LHCb results in a very strong constraint on the upper bound of the color-octet long distance matrix element $1S0$ of $J/ψ$. We find this upper bound is consistent with our previous study of the $J/ψ$ yield and polarization and can give good descriptions for the measurements, but inconsistent with some other theoretical estimates. This may provide important information for understanding the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formulism.

QCD factorization for high $p_T$ heavy quarkonium production

In this talk, we present the QCD factorization formula for heavy quarkonium production at large $p_T$ with factorized leading-power and next-to-leading power contributions in the $1/p_T$ expansion. We show that the leading order analytical calculations in this QCD factorization approach can reproduce effectively the full next-to-leading order numerical results derived using non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism. We demonstrate that the next-to-leading power contributions are crucial to the description of the channels that are the most relevant for the rate as well as polarization of $J/ψ$ production at current collider energies.

Comprehensive description of $J/ψ$ production in proton-proton collisions at collider energies

We employ a small $x$ Color Glass Condensate (CGC)+ Non-Relativistic QCD (NRQCD) formalism to compute $J/ψ$ production at low $p_\perp$ in proton-proton collisions at collider energies. Very good agreement is obtained for total cross-sections, rapidity distributions and low momentum $p_\perp$ distributions. Similar agreement is obtained for $ψ^\prime$ production. We observe an overlap region in $p_\perp$ where our results match smoothly to those obtained in a next-to-leading order (NLO) collinearly factorized NRQCD formalism. The relative contribution of color singlet and color octet contributions can be quantified in the CGC+NRQCD framework, with the former contributing approximately $10\%$ of the total cross-section.

Factorized power expansion for high-$p_T$ heavy quarkonium production

We show that when the factorized cross section for heavy quarkonium production includes next-to-leading power (NLP) contributions associated with the production of the heavy quark pair at short distances, it naturally reproduces all high $p_T$ results calculated in non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization. This extended formalism requires fragmentation functions for heavy quark pairs, as well as for light partons. When these fragmentation functions are themselves calculated using NRQCD, we find that two of the four leading NRQCD production channels, ${^3\hspace{-0.6mm}S_{1}^{[1]}}$ and ${^1\hspace{-0.6mm}S_{0}^{[8]}}$, are dominated by the NLP contributions for a very wide $p_T$ range. The large next-to-leading order corrections of NRQCD are absorbed into the leading order of the first power correction. The impact of this finding on the heavy quarkonium production and its polarization is discussed.

Heavy quarkonium fragmentation functions from a heavy quark pair. I. $S$ wave

A QCD factorization formalism was recently proposed for evaluating heavy quarkonium production at large $p_T$ at collider energies. With systematically calculated short-distance partonic hard parts and evolution kernels of fragmentation functions (FFs), the predictive power of this factorization approach relies on our knowledge of a large number of universal FFs at an input factorization scale $μ_0\gtrsim 2m_Q$ with heavy quark mass $m_Q$. With the large heavy quark mass, the relative motion of the heavy quark pair inside a heavy quarkonium is effectively non-relativistic. We evaluate these universal input FFs using non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, and express the large number of FFs in terms of a few universal NRQCD long-distance matrix elements (LDMEs) with perturbatively calculated coefficients. We derive complete contributions to the single-parton FFs at both ${\cal O}(α_s)$ and ${\cal O}(α_s^2)$, and the heavy quark pair FFs at ${\cal O}(α_s)$. We present detailed derivation for all contributions involving LDMEs of $S$-wave NRQCD $Q\bar{Q}$-states ($P$-wave contributions in a companion paper). Our results bridge the gap between the QCD factorization formalism and its phenomenological applications.

Heavy quarkonium fragmentation functions from a heavy quark pair. II. $P$ wave

Recently, a new perturbative QCD factorization formalism for heavy quarkonium production at a large transverse momentum was proposed. Phenomenological application of this new approach relies on our knowledge of a large number of universal fragmentation functions (FFs) at an input factorization scale $μ_0\gtrsim 2m_Q$ with heavy quark mass $m_Q$, which are nonperturbative, and in principle, should be extracted from data. With heavy quark mass $m_Q\gg Λ_{\rm QCD}$, we calculate these input FFs in terms of non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization. In a companion paper, we calculated these input FFs in NRQCD factorization approach including all contributions from $S$-wave NRQCD $Q\bar{Q}$-states. In this paper, we calculate contributions to the heavy quark-pair FFs from all $P$-wave NRQCD $Q\bar{Q}$-states.

Heavy Quarkonium Production at Collider Energies: Factorization and Evolution

We present a factorization formalism for inclusive production of heavy quarkonia of large transverse momentum, $p_T$ at collider energies, including both leading power (LP) and next-to-leading power (NLP) behavior in $p_T$. We demonstrate that both LP and NLP contributions can be factorized in terms of perturbatively calculable short-distance partonic coefficient functions and universal non-perturbative fragmentation functions, and derive the evolution equations that are implied by the factorization. We identify projection operators for all channels of the factorized LP and NLP infrared safe short-distance partonic hard parts, and corresponding operator definitions of fragmentation functions. For the NLP, we focus on the contributions involving the production of a heavy quark pair, a necessary condition for producing a heavy quarkonium. We evaluate the first non-trivial order of evolution kernels for all relevant fragmentation functions, and discuss the role of NLP contributions.

Heavy Quarkonium Production at Collider Energies: Partonic Cross Section and Polarization

We calculate the ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$ short-distance, QCD collinear-factorized coefficient functions for all partonic channels that include the production of a heavy quark pair at short distances. This provides the first power correction to the collinear-factorized inclusive hadronic production of heavy quarkonia at large transverse momentum, $p_T$, including the full leading-order perturbative contributions to the production of heavy quark pairs in all color and spin states employed in NRQCD treatments of this process. We discuss the role of the first power correction in the production rates and the polarizations of heavy quarkonia in high energy hadronic collisions. The consistency of QCD collinear factorization and non-relativistic QCD factorization applied to heavy quarkonium production is also discussed.

QCD Factorization and PDFs from Lattice QCD Calculation

In this talk, we review a QCD factorization based approach to extract parton distribution and correlation functions from lattice QCD calculation of single hadron matrix elements of quark-gluon operators. We argue that although the lattice QCD calculations are done in the Euclidean space, the nonperturbative collinear behavior of the matrix elements are the same as that in the Minkowski space, and could be systematically factorized into parton distribution functions with infrared safe matching coefficients. The matching coefficients can be calculated perturbatively by applying the factorization formalism on to asymptotic partonic states.

Quarkonium production in high energy proton-nucleus collisions: CGC meets NRQCD

We study the production of heavy quarkonium states in high energy proton-nucleus collisions. Following earlier work of Blaizot, Fujii, Gelis, and Venugopalan, we systematically include both small $x$ evolution and multiple scattering effects on heavy quark pair production within the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) framework. We obtain for the first time expressions in the Non-Relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism for heavy quarkonium differential cross sections as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity. We observe that the production of color singlet heavy quark pairs is sensitive to both "quadrupole" and "dipole" Wilson line correlators, whose energy evolution is described by the Balitsky-JIMWLK equations. In contrast, the color octet channel is sensitive to dipole correlators alone. In a quasi-classical approximation, our results for the color singlet channel reduce to those of Dominguez et. al. [1]. We compare our results to those obtained combining the CGC with the color evaporation model and point to qualitative differences in the two approaches.

General Form of $s$, $t$, $u$ Symmetric Polynomial and Heavy Quarkonium physics

Induced by three gluons symmetry, Mandelstam variables $s$, $t$, $u$ symmetric expressions are widely involved in collider physics, especially in heavy quarkonium physics. In this work we study general form of $s$, $t$, $u$ symmetric polynomials, and find that they can be expressed as polynomials where the symmetry is manifest. The general form is then used to simplify expressions which asymptotically reduces the length of original expression to one-sixth. Based on the general form, we reproduce the exact differential cross section of $J/ψ$ hadron production at leading order in $v^2$ up to four unknown constant numbers by simple analysis. Furthermore, we prove that differential cross section at higher order in $v^2$ is proportional to that at leading order. This proof explains the proportion relation at next-to-leading order in $v^2$ found in previous work and generalizes it to all order.

QCD and Relativistic $O(α_{s}v^2)$ Corrections to Hadronic Decays of Spin-Singlet Heavy Quarkonia $h_c, h_b$ and $η_b$

We calculate the annihilation decay widths of spin-singlet heavy quarkonia $h_c, h_b$ and $η_b$} into light hadrons with both QCD and relativistic corrections at order $O(α_{s}v^{2})$ in nonrelativistic QCD. With appropriate estimates for the long-distance matrix elements by using the potential model and operator evolution method, we find that our predictions of these decay widths are consistent with recent experimental measurements. We also find that the $O(α_{s}v^{2})$ corrections are small for $b\bar{b}$ states but substantial for $c\bar{c}$ states. In particular, the negative contribution of $O(α_{s}v^{2})$ correction to the $h_{c}$ decay can lower the decay width, as compared with previous predictions without the $O(α_{s}v^{2})$ correction, and thus result in a good agreement with the recent BESIII measurement.

$Υ(1S)$ prompt production at the Tevatron and LHC in nonrelativistic QCD

With nonrelativistic QCD factorization, we calculate the $Υ(1S)$ prompt production at hadron colliders at next-to-leading order in $α_s$. In addition to the color-singlet contribution, color-octet channels (especially the P-wave channel) up to $O(v^4)$ are all considered. Aside from direct production, the feed-down contributions from higher excited S-wave and P-wave $b\bar b$ states to $Υ(1S)$ production are also included. We use the potential model estimates as input for color-singlet long-distance matrix elements (LDMEs). While for color-octet contributions, we find they can be approximately described by three LDMEs: $\mo{}{3}{S}{1}{8}$, $\mo{}{1}{S}{0}{8}$ and $\mo{}{3}{P}{0}{8}$. By fitting the Tevatron data we can determine some linear combinations of these LDMEs, and then use them to predict $Υ(1S)$ production at the LHC. Our predictions are consistent with the new experimental data of CMS and LHCb.

J/psi polarization at hadron colliders in nonrelativistic QCD

With nonrelativistic QCD factorization, we present a full next-to-leading order computation of the polarization observable for $J/psi$ production at hadron colliders including all important Fock states, i.e. $^3S_1[1,8]$, $^1S_0[8]$, and $^3P_J[8]$. We find the $^3P_J[8]$ channel contributes a positive longitudinal component and a negative transverse component. So the $J/psi$ polarization puzzle may be understood as the transverse components canceling between $^3S_1[8]$ and $^3P_J[8]$ channels, which results in mainly the unpolarized (even slightly longitudinally polarized) $J/psi$. This may give a possible solution to the long-standing $J/psi$ polarization puzzle. Predictions for $J/psi$ polarization at the LHC are also presented.

$O(α_s v^2)$ Corrections to Hadronic and Electromagnetic Decays of $^1S_0$ Heavy Quarkonium

We study $O(α_sv^2)$ corrections to decays of $^1S_0$ heavy quarkonium into light hadrons and two photons within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD, and find these $O(α_sv^2)$ corrections to have significant contributions especially for the decay into light hadrons. With these new results, experimental measurements of the hadronic width and the $γγ$ width of $η_c$ can be described more consistently. By fitting experimental data, we find the long-distance matrix elements of $η_c$ to be $|\mathcal{R}_{η_c}(0)|^2=0.834^{+0.281}_{-0.197}\ \textrm{GeV}^3$ and $< \bm{v}^2 >_{η_c}=0.232^{+0.121}_{-0.098}$. Moreover, $η_c(2S)$ is also discussed and the $γγ$ decay width is predicted to be $3.34^{+2.06}_{-2.10}\ \textrm{KeV}$.

$χ_{cJ}$ production associated with a $c\bar c$ pair at hadron colliders

$χ_{cJ}$ (J=0,1,2) production associated with a charm quark pair in hadron collisions is calculated in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD at the Tevatron and LHC. It is found that the color-singlet contribution is small and the color-octet contribution may be dominant in the large $p_T$ region. The differential cross section of $p\bar p\toχ_c+c\bar{c}$ is at least one order of magnitude smaller than the next-to-leading order result of $χ_{cJ}$ inclusive production $p\bar p\toχ_c+X$, therefore $χ_{cJ}$ production in $p\bar p\toχ_c+c\bar{c}$ may have negligible influence on the ratio $R_{χ_c}=\frac{σ_{χ_{c2}}}{σ_{χ_{c1}}}$ measured by CDF at the Tevatron. The feeddown contribution from $χ_{cJ}+c+\bar{c}$ to $J/ψ+c+\bar{c}$ is found to be large compared with $J/ψ$ direct production and may have important influence on the measurement of $J/ψ+c+\bar{c}$. The validity of fragmentation approximation for the process is also discussed.

A complete NLO calculation of the $J/ψ$ and $ψ'$ production at hadron colliders

A complete next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation in $α_s$ for the $\jpsi$ and $\psip$ prompt production at the Tevatron, LHC, and RHIC in nonrelativistic QCD is presented. We argue that the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) color-singlet contribution may not be so important as to resolve the large discrepancy between theory and experiment in $\jpsi$ large $p_T$ production cross sections. Therefore, a complete NLO calculation, including both color-singlet and color-octet contribution, is necessary and essential to give a good description for $\jpsi$ and $\psip$ production. We also study the methods to fit the long-distance matrix elements using either two linear combined matrix elements or three matrix elements, and find these two methods can give consistent results. Compared with the measurements at the LHC and RHIC for prompt $\jpsi$ and $\psip$ production, our predictions are found to agree with all data. In particular, the recently released large $p_T$ data (up to 60-70 GeV) at the LHC are in good agreement with our predictions. Our results imply that the universality of color-octet matrix elements holds approximately in charmonium hadroproduction, when one uses fixed order perturbative calculation to describe data (the data in small $p_T$ region are not included). Our work may provide a new test for the universality of color-octet matrix elements, and the color-octet mechanism in general.

J/psi (psi') production at the Tevatron and LHC at O(α_s^4v^4) in nonrelativistic QCD

We present a complete evaluation for $\jpsi(\psip)$ prompt production at the Tevatron and LHC at next-to-leading order in nonrelativistic QCD, including color-singlet, color-octet, and higher charmonia feeddown contributions. The short-distance coefficients of $\pj$ at next-to-leading order are found to be larger than leading order by more than an order of magnitude but with a minus sign at high transverse momentum $p_T$. Two new linear combinations of color-octet matrix elements are obtained from the CDF data, and used to predict $\jpsi$ production at the LHC, which agrees with the CMS data. The possibility of $\sa$ dominance and the $\jpsi$ polarization puzzle are also discussed.

QCD corrections to e^+ e^- to J/ψ(ψ(2S))+χ_{cJ} (J=0,1,2) at B Factories

We analytically calculate the cross sections of double charmonium production in $e^+ e^- \to J/ψ(ψ(2S))χ_{cJ}$ (J=0,1,2) at next-to-leading order (NLO) in $α_s$ in nonrelativistic QCD, and confirm factorization of these processes. In contrast to $χ_{c0}$ production, for which the NLO correction is large and positive, the NLO corrections for $χ_{c1,2}$ production can be negative, resulting in decreased $K$ factors of 0.91 and 0.78 for J=1 and 2 respectively when $μ= 2 m_{c}$. Consequently, the NLO QCD corrections markedly enlarge the difference between cross sections of $χ_{c0}$ and $χ_{c1,2}$. This may explain why $e^+ e^- \to J/ψ(ψ(2S))χ_{c0}$ but not $e^+ e^- \to J/ψ(ψ(2S))χ_{c1,2}$ is observed experimentally. Moreover, for $J/ψ(ψ(2S))χ_{c1,2}$, the NLO QCD corrections substantially reduce the $μ$ dependence and lead to predictions with small theoretical uncertainties.

QCD radiative corrections to $χ_{cJ}$ production at hadron colliders

To clarify the outstanding problem in charmonium production that existing theories cannot explain the observed cross sections of $χ_{cJ}$ (J=0,1,2) and ratio $R_{χ_c}=σ_{χ_{c2}}/σ_{χ_{c1}}\approx 0.75$ (in contrast to the spin counting value 5/3) at the Tevatron, we study the complete next-to-leading order radiative corrections in nonrelativistic QCD, and find next-to-leading order contributions of $^3P_J^{[1]}$ are more important than leading order at high $p_T$, and $^3P_1^{[1]}$ decreases slower than $^3P_2^{[1]}$, implying a natural explanation for the $R_{χ_c}$ puzzle. By fitting $R_{χ_c}$, the predicted cross sections of $χ_{cJ}$ are found to agree with data. The result indicates color-octet contribution is crucially needed, thus providing a unique test for heavy quarkonium production mechanisms. Feed-down contributions of $χ_{cJ}$ to prompt $J/ψ$ production are estimated to be substantial, about $30-40%$ at $p_T=20$ GeV. Production of $χ_{cJ}$ (J=0,1,2) at the LHC is also predicted.

QCD radiative correction to color-octet $J/ψ$ inclusive production at B Factories

In nonrelativistic Quantum Chromodynamics (NRQCD), we study the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD radiative correction to the color-octet $J/ψ$ inclusive production at B Factories. Compared with the leading-order (LO) result, the NLO QCD corrections are found to enhance the short-distance coefficients in the color-octet $J/ψ$ production $ e^+ e^-\to c \bar c (^3P_0^{(8)} {\rm or} ^3P_0^{(8)})g$ by a factor of about 1.9. Moreover, the peak at the endpoint in the $J/ψ$ energy distribution predicted at LO can be smeared by the NLO corrections, but the major color-octet contribution still comes from the large energy region of $J/ψ$. By fitting the latest data of $σ(e^{+}e^{-}\to J/ψ+X_{\mathrm{non-c\bar{c}}})$ observed by Belle, we find that the values of color-octet matrix elements are much smaller than expected earlier by using the naive velocity scaling rules or extracted from fitting experimental data with LO calculations. As the most stringent constraint by setting the color-singlet contribution to be zero in $e^{+}e^{-}\to J/ψ+X_{\mathrm{non-c\bar{c}}}$, we get an upper limit of the color-octet matrix element, $<0| {\cal O}^{J/ψ}[{}^1S_0^{(8)}]|0> + 4.0 <0| {\cal O}^{J/ψ} [{}^3P_0^{(8)}]|0>/m_c^2 <(2.0 \pm 0.6)\times 10^{-2} {\rm GeV}^3$ at NLO in $α_s$.
