Jensen-type inequalities for convex and $m$-convex functions via fractional calculus

Inequalities play an important role in pure and applied mathematics. In particular, Jensen's inequality, one of the most famous inequalities, plays a main role in the study of the existence and uniqueness of initial and boundary value problems for differential equations. In this work we prove some new Jensen-type inequalities for $m$-convex functions, and we apply them to generalized Riemann-Liouville-type integral operators. It is remarkable that, if we consider $m=1$, we obtain new inequalities for convex functions.

Asymptotics for Laguerre-Sobolev type ortogonal polynomials modified within their oscillatory regime

In this paper we consider sequences of polynomials orthogonal with respect to certain discrete Laguerre-Sobolev inner product, with two perturbations (involving derivatives) located inside the oscillatory region for the classical Laguerre polynomials. We focus our attention on the representation of these polynomials in terms of the classical Laguerre polynomials and deduce the coefficients of their corresponding five-term recurrence relation, as well as the asymptotic behavior of these coefficients when the degree of the polynomials tends to infinity. Also, the outer relative asymptotics of orthogonal polynomials with respect to this discrete Sobolev inner product is analyzed.

On a Theorem by Bojanov and Naidenov applied to families of Gegenbauer-Sobolev polynomials

Let $\{Q^{(α)}_{n,λ}\}_{n\geq 0}$ be the sequence of monic orthogonal polynomials with respect the Gegenbauer-Sobolev inner product $$\langle f,g\rangle_{S}:=\int_{-1}^{1}f(x)g(x)(1-x^{2})^{α-\frac{1}{2}}dx+λ\int_{-1}^{1}f'(x)g'(x)(1-x^{2})^{α-\frac{1}{2}} dx,$$ where $α>-\frac{1}{2}$ and $λ\geq 0$. In this paper we use a recent result due to B.D. Bojanov and N. Naidenov \cite{BN2010}, in order to study the maximization of a local extremum of the $k$th derivative $\frac{d^k}{dx^k}Q^{(α)}_{n,λ}$ in $[-M_{n,λ}, M_{n,λ}]$, where $M_{n,λ}$ is a suitable value such that all zeros of the polynomial $Q^{(α)}_{n,λ}$ are contained in $[-M_{n,λ}, M_{n,λ}]$ and the function $\left|Q^{(α)}_{n,λ}\right|$ attains its maximal value at the end-points of such interval. Also, some illustrative numerical examples are presented.
