Two types of boson stars in $U(1)$ gauged $3+1$-dimensional $O(3)$ sigma-model

We investigate boson stars in an $O(3)$ scalar field theory with a symmetry-breaking potential. By constructing numerically spherically symmetric solutions, we demonstrate that the model gives rise to a rich set of field configurations. The negative coupling constant of the scalar self-interactions allows for two types of boson stars: Type I solutions represent the usual boson stars, that emerge from the vacuum as the boson frequency is decreased below the boson mass, whereas type II boson stars emerge from a set of static soliton solutions. Depending on the strengths of the gravitational and the electric coupling constants, both types or only one type is present. At a critical set of coupling constants, both types undergo a bifurcation. There the spirals of both types disconnect from their branches and reconnect with each other, while the remaining branches of both types also reconnect with each other.

Boson Stars

We review particle-like configurations of complex scalar field, localized by gravity, so-called boson stars. In the simplest case, these solutions posses spherical symmetry, they may arise in the massive Einstein-Klein-Gordon theory with global $U(1)$ symmetry, as gravitationally bounded lumps of scalar condensate. Further, there are spinning axially symmetric boson stars which possess non-zero angular momentum, and a variety of non-trivial multipolar stationary configurations without any continuous symmetries. In this short overview we discuss important dynamic properties of the boson stars, concentrating on recent results on the construction of multicomponent constellations of boson stars.

Q-ball stress stability criterion in the $U(1)$ gauged scalar theories

We study the canonical energy-momentum tensor of the spherically symmetric $U(1)$ gauged Q-ball configurations in the two-component Fridberg-Lee-Sirlin-Maxwell model, and in the one-component scalar model with a sixtic potential. We evaluate the distributions of the corresponding shear forces and pressure and study the stability criteria for these solutions. It is shown that the electrostatic repulsion may destabilize the $U(1)$ gauged Q-balls. However, in the limiting case of the Fridberg-Lee-Sirlin-Maxwell model with a long ranged real scalar component, the gauged Q-balls always remain stable.

Remarks on sine-Gordon kink--fermion system: localized modes and scattering

We study numerically the kink-fermion interactions in a 1+1 dimensional toy model, which describes sine-Gordon kinks coupled to the massless Dirac fermions with backreaction. We show that the spectrum of fermionic modes strongly depends on the choice of the coupling, in particular, there are no localized modes for a minimal Yukawa coupling. We analyze the scattering of the fermionic packet by the kink. We demonstrate that the outcome of the collision dynamically depends on the phase of the incoming fermion packet, it results in alternating regimes of positive and negative acceleration of the kink.

Chains of interacting solitons

We present an overview of multisoliton chains arising in various non-integrable field theories, and discuss different mechanisms, which may lead to the occurrence of such axially-symmetric classical solutions. We explain the pattern of interactions between different solitons, in particular Q-balls, Skyrmions and monopoles and show how chains of interacting non-BPS solitons may form in a dynamic equilibrium between repulsive and attractive forces.

Spinning gauged boson and Dirac stars: a comparative study

Scalar boson stars and Dirac stars are solitonic solutions of the Einstein{Klein-Gordon and Einstein- Dirac classical equations, respectively. Despite the different bosonic vs: fermionic nature of the matter field, these solutions to the classical field equations have been shown to have qualitatively similar features [1]. In particular, for spinning stars the most fundamental configurations can be in both cases toroidal, unlike spinning Proca stars that are spheroidal [2]. In this paper we gauge the scalar and Dirac fields, by minimally coupling them to standard electromagnetism. We explore the impact of the gauge coupling on the resulting solutions. One of the most relevant difference concerns the gyromagnetic ratio, which for the scalar stars takes values around 1, whereas for Dirac stars takes values around 2.

Staccato radiation from the decay of large amplitude oscillons

We study the decay of large amplitude, almost periodic breather-like states in a deformed sine-Gordon model in one spatial dimension. We discover that these objects decay in a staggered fashion via a series of transitions, during which higher harmonics are released as short, staccato bursts of radiation. Further, we argue that this phenomenon is not restricted to one particular model, and that similar mechanisms of radiative decay of long-lived oscillating states can be observed for a wide class of physical systems, including the $ϕ^6$ model.

Kinks bounded by fermions

We present and study new mechanism of interaction between the solitons based on the exchange interaction mediated by the localized fermion states. As particular examples, we consider solutions of simple 1+1 dimensional scalar field theories with self-interaction potentials, including sine-Gordon model and the polynomial $ϕ^4$, $ϕ^6$ models, coupled to the Dirac fermions with back-reaction. We discover that there is an additional fermion exchange interaction between the solitons, it leads to the formation of static multi-soliton bound states. Further, we argue that similar mechanisms of formation of stable coupled multi-soliton configurations can be observed for a wide class of physical systems.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking in dual-core baby-Skyrmion systems

We introduce a system composed of two (2+1)-dimensional baby-skyrmion models (BSMs) set on parallel planes and linearly coupled by tunneling of fields. This system can be realized in a dual-layer ferromagnetic medium. Unlike dual-core models previously studied\ in nonlinear optics and BEC, here the symmetry-breaking bifurcation (SBB) in solitons (baby skyrmions) occurs with the increase of the inter-core coupling ($κ$), rather than with its decrease, due to the fact that even in the uncoupled system neither core may be empty. Prior to the onset of the symmetry breaking between the two components of the solitons, they gradually separate in the lateral direction, due to the increase of $κ$, which is explained in an analytical form by means of an effective interaction potential. Such evolution scenario are produced for the originally symmetric states with topological charges in the two cores $\left(B^{(1)},B^{(2)}\right)$, with $% B^{(1)}=B^{(2)}=1,2,3,4$. The evolution of mixed states, of the $\left(1,2\right)$ and $\left(2,4\right)$ types, with the variation of $κ$ is studied too.

Isorotating Baby Skyrmions

We discuss how internal rotation with fixed angular frequency can affect the solitons in the baby Skyrme model in which the global O(3) symmetry is broken to the SO(2). Two particular choices of the potential term are considered, the "old" potential and the "new" double vacuum potential, We do not impose any assumptions about the symmetry on the fields. Our results confirm existence of two types of instabilities determined by the relation between the mass parameter of the potential and the angular frequency.

Isospinning hopfions

The problem of constructing internally rotating solitons of fixed angular frequency $ω$ in the Faddeev-Skyrme model is reformulated as a variational problem for an energy-like functional, called pseudoenergy, which depends parametrically on $ω$. This problem is solved numerically using a gradient descent method, without imposing any spatial symmetries on the solitons, and the dependence of the solitons' energy on $ω$, and on their conserved total isospin $J$, studied. It is found that, generically, the shape of a soliton is independent of $ω$, and that its size grows monotonically with $ω$. A simple elastic rod model of time-dependent hopfions is developed which, despite having only one free parameter, accounts well for most of the numerical results.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking of binary fields in a nonlinear double-well structure

We introduce a one-dimensional two-component system with the self-focusing cubic nonlinearity concentrated at a symmetric set of two spots. Effects of the spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) of localized modes were previously studied in the single-component version of this system. In this work, we study the evolution (in the configuration space of the system) and SSB scenarios for two-component modes of three generic types, as concerns the spatial symmetry of each component: symmetric-symmetric (Sm-Sm), antisymmetric-antisymmetric (AS-AS), and symmetric-antisymmetric (S-AS) ones. In the limit case of the nonlinear potential represented by two $% δ$-functions, solutions are obtained in a semi-analytical form. They feature novel properties, in comparison with the previously studied single-component model. In particular, the SSB of antisymmetric modes is possible solely in the two-component system, and, obviously, S-AS states exist only in the two-component system too. In the general case of the symmetric pair of finite-width nonlinear potential wells, evolution scenarios are very complex. In this case, new results are reported, first, for the single-component model. These are pairs of broken-antisymmetry modes, and of twin-peak symmetric ones, which are generated by saddle-mode bifurcations separated from the transformations previously studied in the the single-component setting. With regard to these findings, complex scenarios of the evolution of the two-component solution families are realized in terms of links connecting pairs of modes of three simplest types: (A) two-component ones with unbroken symmetries; (B) single-component modes featuring density peaks in both potential wells; (C) single-component modes which are trapped, essentially, in a single well.
