Top physics at high-energy lepton colliders

A summary is presented of the workshop "top physics at linear colliders" that was held at IFIC Valencia from the 30th of June to the 3rd July 2015. We present an up-to-date status report of studies into the potential for top quark physics of lepton colliders with an energy reach that exceeds the top quark pair production threshold, with a focus on the linear collider projects ILC and CLIC. This summary shows that such projects can offer very competitive determinations of top quark properties (mass, width) and its interactions with other Standard Model particles, in particular electroweak gauge bosons and the Higgs boson. In both areas the prospects exceed the LHC potential significantly - often by an order of magnitude.

Physics at the e+ e- Linear Collider

A comprehensive review of physics at an e+e- Linear Collider in the energy range of sqrt{s}=92 GeV--3 TeV is presented in view of recent and expected LHC results, experiments from low energy as well as astroparticle physics. The report focuses in particular on Higgs boson, Top quark and electroweak precision physics, but also discusses several models of beyond the Standard Model physics such as Supersymmetry, little Higgs models and extra gauge bosons. The connection to cosmology has been analyzed as well.

Strong IR Cancellation in Heavy Quarkonium and Precise Top Mass Determination

Combining recent perturbative analyses on the static QCD potential and the quark pole mass, we find that, for the heavy quarkonium states $c\bar{c}$, $b\bar{b}$ and $t\bar{t}$, (1) ultra-soft (US) corrections in the binding energies are small, and (2) there is a stronger cancellation of IR contributions than what has been predicted by renormalon dominance hypothesis. By contrast, for a hypothetical heavy quarkonium system with a small number of active quark flavors ($n_l\approx 0$), we observe evidence that renormalon dominance holds accurately and that non-negligible contributions from US corrections exist. In addition, we examine contributions of renormalons at $u=- 1$. As an important consequence, we improve on a previous prediction for possible achievable accuracy of top quark $\overline{\rm MS}$--mass measurement at a future linear collider and estimate that in principle 20--30~MeV accuracy is reachable.

Top quark precision physics at the International Linear Collider

Top quark production in the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t\bar{t}$ at a future linear electron positron collider with polarized beams is a powerful tool to determine the scale of new physics. Studies at the $\ttbar$ threshold will allow for precise determination of the top quark mass in a well defined theoretical framework. At higher energies vector, axial vector and tensorial CP conserving couplings can be separately determined for the photon and the $Z^0$ component in the electro-weak production process. The sensitivity to new physics would be dramatically improved w.r.t. to what expected from LHC for electroweak couplings.

Violation of Casimir Scaling for Static QCD Potential at Three-loop Order

We compute the full ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ and ${\cal O}(α_s^4\logα_s)$ corrections to the potential $V_R(r)$ between the static color sources, where $V_R(r)$ is defined from the Wilson loop in a general representation $R$ of a general gauge group $G$. We find a violation of the Casimir scaling of the potential, for the first time, at ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$. The effect of the Casimir scaling violation is predicted to reduce the tangent of $V_R(r)/C_R$ proportionally to specific color factors dependent on $R$. We study the sizes of the Casimir scaling violation for various $R$'s in the case $G=SU(3)$. We find that they are well within the present bounds from lattice calculations, in the distance region where both perturbative and lattice computations of $V_R(r)$ are valid. We also discuss how to test the Casimir scaling violating effect.

Third-order non-Coulomb correction to the S-wave quarkonium wave functions at the origin

We compute the third-order correction to the S-wave quarkonium wave functions |ψ_n(0)|^2 at the origin from non-Coulomb potentials in the effective non-relativistic Lagrangian. Together with previous results on the Coulomb correction and the ultrasoft correction computed in a companion paper, this completes the third-order calculation up to a few unknown matching coefficients. Numerical estimates of the new correction for bottomonium and toponium are given.

Quark Mass Hierarchy, FCNC and CP violation in a Seesaw model

The seesaw model of quark masses is studied systematically, focusing on its developments. A framework allowing the top quark mass to be of the order of the electroweak symmetry breaking scale, while the remaining light quarks have much smaller masses, due to the seesaw mechanism, is presented. The violation of the GIM mechanism is shown to be small and the tree level FCNC are suppressed naturally. In this model, there are many particles which could contribute to the FCNC in the one-loop level. Parameters of the model are constrained by using the experimental data on K^0-\bar{K}^0 mixing and ε_K. The rare K meson decays K_{L,S} -> π^0 ν\barν and K^+ -> π^+ ν\barν are also investigated in the model. In these processes the scalar operators (\bar{s}d)(\barν_τν_τ), which are derived from box diagrams in the model, play an important role due to an enhancement factor M_K/m_s in the matrix element <π|\bar{s}d|K>. It is emphasized that the K_L decay process through the scalar operator is not the CP violating mode, so B(K_L -> π^0 ν\barν) remains non-zero even in the CP conserved limit. The pion energy spectra for these processes are predicted.
