Heteroscedastic Bayesian Optimization-Based Dynamic PID Tuning for Accurate and Robust UAV Trajectory Tracking

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) play an important role in various applications, where precise trajectory tracking is crucial. However, conventional control algorithms for trajectory tracking often exhibit limited performance due to the underactuated, nonlinear, and highly coupled dynamics of quadrotor systems. To address these challenges, we propose HBO-PID, a novel control algorithm that integrates the Heteroscedastic Bayesian Optimization (HBO) framework with the classical PID controller to achieve accurate and robust trajectory tracking. By explicitly modeling input-dependent noise variance, the proposed method can better adapt to dynamic and complex environments, and therefore improve the accuracy and robustness of trajectory tracking. To accelerate the convergence of optimization, we adopt a two-stage optimization strategy that allow us to more efficiently find the optimal controller parameters. Through experiments in both simulation and real-world scenarios, we demonstrate that the proposed method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. Compared to SOTA methods, it improves the position accuracy by 24.7% to 42.9%, and the angular accuracy by 40.9% to 78.4%.

Copper ion dynamics and phase segregation in Cu-rich tetrahedrite: an NMR study

$^{63}$Cu NMR measurements are reported for the Cu-rich phase of \ch{Cu_{12+x}Sb4S13} ($x \lesssim 2$) and compared to \ch{Cu12Sb4S13}. We identify the NMR signatures of the phase segregation into Cu-poor ($x \approx 0$) and Cu-rich ($x \lesssim 2$) phases, with the metal-insulator transition observed in \ch{Cu12Sb4S13} suppressed in the Cu-rich phase. Based on NMR $T_1$ and $T_2$ measurements, the results demonstrate Cu-ion hopping below room temperature with an activation energy of $\sim$150 meV for the Cu-rich phase, consistent with superionic behavior. The NMR results also demonstrate the effects of Cu-ion mobility in the \ch{Cu12Sb4S13} phase, but with a larger activation barrier. We identify a small difference in NMR Knight shift for the metallic phase of \ch{Cu12Sb4S13}, compared to the Cu-rich phase, and when compared to DFT calculations the results indicate a mix of hyperfine contributions to the metallic shift.

Strong gravitational field time delay for photons coupled to Weyl tensor in a Schwarzschild black hole

We analyse strong gravitational field time delay for photons coupled to the Weyl tensor in a Schwarzschild black hole. By making use of the method of strong deflection limit, we find that these time delays between relativistic images are significantly affected by polarization directions of such a coupling. A practical problem about determination of the polarization direction by observations is investigated. It is found that if the first and second relativistic images can be resolved, the measurement of time delay can more effectively improve detectability of the polarization direction.

Extending PPTL for Verifying Heap Evolution Properties

In this paper, we integrate separation logic with Propositional Projection Temporal Logic (PPTL) to obtain a two-dimensional logic, namely PPTL$^{\tiny\mbox{SL}}$. The spatial dimension is realized by a decidable fragment of separation logic which can be used to describe linked lists, and the temporal dimension is expressed by PPTL. We show that PPTL and PPTL$^{\tiny\mbox{SL}}$ are closely related in their syntax structures. That is, for any PPTL$^{\tiny\mbox{SL}}$ formula in a restricted form, there exists an "isomorphic" PPTL formula. The "isomorphic" PPTL formulas can be obtained by first an equisatisfiable translation and then an isomorphic mapping. As a result, existing theory of PPTL, such as decision procedure for satisfiability and model checking algorithm, can be reused for PPTL$^{\tiny\mbox{SL}}$.
