DynT2I-Eval: A Dynamic Evaluation Framework for Text-to-Image Models

Existing text-to-image (T2I) benchmarks largely rely on fixed prompt sets, leaving them vulnerable to overfitting and benchmark contamination once publicly released and repeatedly reused. In this work, we propose DynT2I-Eval, a fully automated dynamic evaluation framework for T2I models. It constructs a structured visual semantic space from long-form descriptions, decomposing prompts into controllable dimensions (e.g., subject, logical constraint, environment, and composition). This enables the continuous generation of fresh prompts via task-specific spaces and difficulty-aware sampling. DynT2I-Eval evaluates model performance across text alignment, perceptual quality, and aesthetics. Heterogeneous outputs are unified into prompt-conditioned pairwise comparisons, allowing a dynamic scheduler, micro-batch aggregation, and weighted Bayesian updates to maintain a stable online leaderboard despite changing prompt distributions and model injection. Experiments with independently sampled prompt streams demonstrate that continually refreshed prompts provide a robust evaluation protocol, reducing the impact of prompt-set-specific tuning. Simulations and ablations further confirm that the proposed ranking framework achieves a strong balance among cold-start convergence, late-entry discovery, and long-run ranking fidelity.

EditRefiner: A Human-Aligned Agentic Framework for Image Editing Refinement

Recent text-guided image editing (TIE) models have made remarkable progress, yet edited images still frequently suffer from fine-grained issues such as unnatural objects, lighting mismatch, and unexpected changes. Existing refinement approaches either rely on costly iterative regeneration or employ vision-language models (VLMs) with weak spatial grounding, often resulting in semantic drift and unreliable local corrections. To address these limitations, we first construct EditFHF-15K, a dataset of fine-grained human feedback for edited images, comprising (1) 15K images from 12 TIE models spanning 43 editing tasks, (2) 60K annotated artifact regions and 80K editing failure regions, each accompanied by textual reasoning, and (3) 45K mean opinion scores (MOSs) assessing perceptual quality, instruction following, and visual consistency. Based on EditFHF-15K, we propose EditRefiner, a hierarchical, interpretable, and human-aligned agentic framework that reformulates post-editing correction as a human-like perception-reasoning-action-evaluation loop. Specifically, we introduce: (1) a perception agent that detects contextual saliency maps of artifacts and editing failures, (2) a reasoning agent that interprets these perceptual cues to perform human-aligned diagnostic inference, (3) an action agent that uses the reasoning output to plan and execute localized re-editing, and (4) an evaluation agent that assesses the re-edited image and guides the action agent on whether further refinements are required. Extensive experiments demonstrate that EditRefiner consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in distortion localization, diagnose accuracy and human perception alignment, establishing a new paradigm for self-corrective and perceptually reliable image editing. Enhancing Blind Video Quality Assessment with Rich Quality-aware Features

Blind video quality assessment (BVQA) is a highly challenging task due to the intrinsic complexity of video content and visual distortions, especially given the high popularity of social media videos, which originate from a wide range of sources, and are often processed by various compression and enhancement algorithms. While recent BVQA and blind image quality assessment (BIQA) studies have made remarkable progress, their models typically perform well on the datasets they were trained on but generalize poorly to unseen videos, making them less effective for accurately evaluating the perceptual quality of diverse social media videos. In this paper, we propose Rich Quality-aware features enabled Video Quality Assessment (RQ-VQA), a simple yet effective method to enhance BVQA by leveraging rich quality-aware features extracted from off-the-shelf BIQA and BVQA models. Our approach exploits the expertise of existing quality assessment models within their trained domains to improve generalization. Specifically, we design a multi-source feature framework that integrates:(1) Learnable spatial features} from a base model fine-tuned on the target VQA dataset to capture domain-specific quality cues; (2) Temporal motion features from the fast pathway of SlowFast pre-trained on action recognition datasets to model motion-related distortions; (3) Spatial quality-aware features from BIQA models trained on diverse IQA datasets to enhance frame-level distortion representation; and (4) Spatiotemporal quality-aware features from a BVQA model trained on large-scale VQA datasets to jointly encode spatial structure and temporal dynamics. These features are concatenated and fed into a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) to regress them into quality scores. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves state-of-the-art performance on three public social media VQA datasets.

Enhancing Image Quality Assessment Ability of LMMs via Retrieval-Augmented Generation

Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) have recently shown remarkable promise in low-level visual perception tasks, particularly in Image Quality Assessment (IQA), demonstrating strong zero-shot capability. However, achieving state-of-the-art performance often requires computationally expensive fine-tuning methods, which aim to align the distribution of quality-related token in output with image quality levels. Inspired by recent training-free works for LMM, we introduce IQARAG, a novel, training-free framework that enhances LMMs' IQA ability. IQARAG leverages Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to retrieve some semantically similar but quality-variant reference images with corresponding Mean Opinion Scores (MOSs) for input image. These retrieved images and input image are integrated into a specific prompt. Retrieved images provide the LMM with a visual perception anchor for IQA task. IQARAG contains three key phases: Retrieval Feature Extraction, Image Retrieval, and Integration & Quality Score Generation. Extensive experiments across multiple diverse IQA datasets, including KADID, KonIQ, LIVE Challenge, and SPAQ, demonstrate that the proposed IQARAG effectively boosts the IQA performance of LMMs, offering a resource-efficient alternative to fine-tuning for quality assessment.

GeoR-Bench: Evaluating Geoscience Visual Reasoning

Geoscience intelligence is expected to understand, reason about, and predict earth system changes to support human decision-making in critical domains such as disaster response, climate adaptation and environmental protection. Although current research has shown promising progress on specific geoscience tasks, such as remote sensing interpretation, geographic question-answering, existing benchmarks remain largely task-specific which failing to capture the open-ended real world geoscience problems. As a result, it remains unclear how far current AI systems are from achieving genuine geoscience intelligence. To address this gap, we present \textbf{GeoR-Bench}, a \underline{Bench}mark for evaluating \underline{Geo}science visual \underline{R}easoning through reasoning informed visual editing tasks. GeoR-Bench contains 440 curated samples spanning 6 geoscience categories and 24 task types, covering earth observation imagery and structured scientific representations such as maps and diagrams. We evaluate outputs along three dimensions, including reasoning, consistency, and quality. Benchmark results of 21 closed- and open-source multimodal models reveal that geoscience reasoning remains a critical bottleneck. The highest-performing model achieves 42.7\% overall strict accuracy, while the best open-source models only get 10.3\%. Notably, the visual consistency and image quality of the outputs frequently surpass their scientific accuracy. Ultimately, these findings indicate that current models generate superficially plausible results but fail to capture underlying earth science processes.

KidVis: Do Multimodal Large Language Models Possess the Visual Perceptual Capabilities of a 6-Year-Old?

While Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have demonstrated impressive proficiency in high-level reasoning tasks, such as complex diagrammatic interpretation, it remains an open question whether they possess the fundamental visual primitives comparable to human intuition. To investigate this, we introduce KidVis, a novel benchmark grounded in the theory of human visual development. KidVis deconstructs visual intelligence into six atomic capabilities - Concentration, Tracking, Discrimination, Memory, Spatial, and Closure - already possessed by 6-7 year old children, comprising 10 categories of low-semantic-dependent visual tasks. Evaluating 20 state-of-the-art MLLMs against a human physiological baseline reveals a stark performance disparity. Results indicate that while human children achieve a near-perfect average score of 95.32, the state-of-the-art GPT-5 attains only 67.33. Crucially, we observe a "Scaling Law Paradox": simply increasing model parameters fails to yield linear improvements in these foundational visual capabilities. This study confirms that current MLLMs, despite their reasoning prowess, lack the essential physiological perceptual primitives required for generalized visual intelligence.

LoViF 2026 The First Challenge on Holistic Quality Assessment for 4D World Model (PhyScore)

This paper reports on the LoViF 2026 PhyScore challenge, a competition on holistic quality assessment of world-model-generated videos across both 2D and 4D generation settings. The challenge is motivated by a central gap in current evaluation practice: perceptual quality alone is insufficient to judge whether generated dynamics are physically plausible, temporally coherent, and consistent with input conditions. Participants are required to build a metric that jointly predicts four dimensions, i.e., Video Quality, Physical Realism, Condition-Video Alignment, and Temporal Consistency. Depart from that, participants also need to localize physical anomaly timestamps for fine-grained diagnosis. The benchmark dataset contains 1,554 videos generated by seven representative world generative models, organized into three tracks (text-2D, image-to-4D, and video-to-4D) and spanning 26 categories. These categories explicitly cover physics-relevant scenarios, including dynamics, optics, and thermodynamics, together with diverse real-world and creative content. To ensure label reliability, scores and anomaly timestamps are produced through trained human annotation with an additional automated quality-control pass. Evaluation is based on both score prediction and anomaly localization, with a composite protocol that combines TimeStamp_IOU and SRCC/PLCC. This report summarizes the challenge design and provides method-level insights from submitted solutions.

ReasonEdit: Towards Interpretable Image Editing Evaluation via Reinforcement Learning

Recent text-guided image editing (TIE) models have achieved remarkable progress, however, many edited results still suffer from artifacts, unintended modifications, and suboptimal aesthetics. Although several benchmarks and evaluation methods have been proposed, most existing approaches rely on scalar scores and lack interpretability. This limitation largely stems from the absence of high-quality interpretation datasets for TIE and effective reward models to train interpretable evaluators. To address these challenges, we introduce ReasonEdit-22K, the first dataset that combines 22K edited images with 113K Chain-of-Thought (CoT) samples, along with 1.3M human judgments assessing these interpretations in terms of logicality, accuracy, and usefulness. Building upon this dataset, we propose RE-Reward, a multimodal large language model (MLLM)-based reward model designed to provide human-aligned feedback for evaluating interpretable reasoning in image editing. Furthermore, we develop ReasonEdit, which is trained using reward signals derived from RE-Reward and the Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) algorithm to learn an interpretable evaluation model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ReasonEdit achieves superior alignment with human preferences and exhibits strong generalization across public benchmarks. In addition, it is capable of generating high-quality interpretable evaluation text, enabling more transparent and trustworthy assessment for image editing. VTONQA: A Multi-Dimensional Quality Assessment Dataset for Virtual Try-on

With the rapid development of e-commerce and digital fashion, image-based virtual try-on (VTON) has attracted increasing attention. However, existing VTON models often suffer from artifacts such as garment distortion and body inconsistency, highlighting the need for reliable quality evaluation of VTON-generated images. To this end, we construct VTONQA, the first multi-dimensional quality assessment dataset specifically designed for VTON, which contains 8,132 images generated by 11 representative VTON models, along with 24,396 mean opinion scores (MOSs) across three evaluation dimensions (i.e., clothing fit, body compatibility, and overall quality). Based on VTONQA, we benchmark both VTON models and a diverse set of image quality assessment (IQA) metrics, revealing the limitations of existing methods and highlighting the value of the proposed dataset. We believe that the VTONQA dataset and corresponding benchmarks will provide a solid foundation for perceptually aligned evaluation, benefiting both the development of quality assessment methods and the advancement of VTON models.

Q-Refine: A Perceptual Quality Refiner for AI-Generated Image

With the rapid evolution of the Text-to-Image (T2I) model in recent years, their unsatisfactory generation result has become a challenge. However, uniformly refining AI-Generated Images (AIGIs) of different qualities not only limited optimization capabilities for low-quality AIGIs but also brought negative optimization to high-quality AIGIs. To address this issue, a quality-award refiner named Q-Refine is proposed. Based on the preference of the Human Visual System (HVS), Q-Refine uses the Image Quality Assessment (IQA) metric to guide the refining process for the first time, and modify images of different qualities through three adaptive pipelines. Experimental shows that for mainstream T2I models, Q-Refine can perform effective optimization to AIGIs of different qualities. It can be a general refiner to optimize AIGIs from both fidelity and aesthetic quality levels, thus expanding the application of the T2I generation models.

A Brief Survey on Adaptive Video Streaming Quality Assessment

Quality of experience (QoE) assessment for adaptive video streaming plays a significant role in advanced network management systems. It is especially challenging in case of dynamic adaptive streaming schemes over HTTP (DASH) which has increasingly complex characteristics including additional playback issues. In this paper, we provide a brief overview of adaptive video streaming quality assessment. Upon our review of related works, we analyze and compare different variations of objective QoE assessment models with or without using machine learning techniques for adaptive video streaming. Through the performance analysis, we observe that hybrid models perform better than both quality-of-service (QoS) driven QoE approaches and signal fidelity measurement. Moreover, the machine learning-based model slightly outperforms the model without using machine learning for the same setting. In addition, we find that existing video streaming QoE assessment models still have limited performance, which makes it difficult to be applied in practical communication systems. Therefore, based on the success of deep learned feature representations for traditional video quality prediction, we also apply the off-the-shelf deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) to evaluate the perceptual quality of streaming videos, where the spatio-temporal properties of streaming videos are taken into consideration. Experiments demonstrate its superiority, which sheds light on the future development of specifically designed deep learning frameworks for adaptive video streaming quality assessment. We believe this survey can serve as a guideline for QoE assessment of adaptive video streaming.

A No-Reference Deep Learning Quality Assessment Method for Super-resolution Images Based on Frequency Maps

To support the application scenarios where high-resolution (HR) images are urgently needed, various single image super-resolution (SISR) algorithms are developed. However, SISR is an ill-posed inverse problem, which may bring artifacts like texture shift, blur, etc. to the reconstructed images, thus it is necessary to evaluate the quality of super-resolution images (SRIs). Note that most existing image quality assessment (IQA) methods were developed for synthetically distorted images, which may not work for SRIs since their distortions are more diverse and complicated. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a no-reference deep-learning image quality assessment method based on frequency maps because the artifacts caused by SISR algorithms are quite sensitive to frequency information. Specifically, we first obtain the high-frequency map (HM) and low-frequency map (LM) of SRI by using Sobel operator and piecewise smooth image approximation. Then, a two-stream network is employed to extract the quality-aware features of both frequency maps. Finally, the features are regressed into a single quality value using fully connected layers. The experimental results show that our method outperforms all compared IQA models on the selected three super-resolution quality assessment (SRQA) databases.

Blind Surveillance Image Quality Assessment via Deep Neural Network Combined with the Visual Saliency

The intelligent video surveillance system (IVSS) can automatically analyze the content of the surveillance image (SI) and reduce the burden of the manual labour. However, the SIs may suffer quality degradations in the procedure of acquisition, compression, and transmission, which makes IVSS hard to understand the content of SIs. In this paper, we first conduct an example experiment (i.e. the face detection task) to demonstrate that the quality of the SIs has a crucial impact on the performance of the IVSS, and then propose a saliency-based deep neural network for the blind quality assessment of the SIs, which helps IVSS to filter the low-quality SIs and improve the detection and recognition performance. Specifically, we first compute the saliency map of the SI to select the most salient local region since the salient regions usually contain rich semantic information for machine vision and thus have a great impact on the overall quality of the SIs. Next, the convolutional neural network (CNN) is adopted to extract quality-aware features for the whole image and local region, which are then mapped into the global and local quality scores through the fully connected (FC) network respectively. Finally, the overall quality score is computed as the weighted sum of the global and local quality scores. Experimental results on the SI quality database (SIQD) show that the proposed method outperforms all compared state-of-the-art BIQA methods.

Deep Decomposition and Bilinear Pooling Network for Blind Night-Time Image Quality Evaluation

Blind image quality assessment (BIQA), which aims to accurately predict the image quality without any pristine reference information, has been extensively concerned in the past decades. Especially, with the help of deep neural networks, great progress has been achieved. However, it remains less investigated on BIQA for night-time images (NTIs) which usually suffers from complicated authentic distortions such as reduced visibility, low contrast, additive noises, and color distortions. These diverse authentic degradations particularly challenges the design of effective deep neural network for blind NTI quality evaluation (NTIQE). In this paper, we propose a novel deep decomposition and bilinear pooling network (DDB-Net) to better address this issue. The DDB-Net contains three modules, i.e., an image decomposition module, a feature encoding module, and a bilinear pooling module. The image decomposition module is inspired by the Retinex theory and involves decoupling the input NTI into an illumination layer component responsible for illumination information and a reflection layer component responsible for content information. Then, the feature encoding module involves learning feature representations of degradations that are rooted in the two decoupled components separately. Finally, by modeling illumination-related and content-related degradations as two-factor variations, the two feature sets are bilinearly pooled together to form a unified representation for quality prediction. The superiority of the proposed DDB-Net has been well validated by extensive experiments on several benchmark datasets. The source code will be made available soon.

Deep Neural Network for Blind Visual Quality Assessment of 4K Content

The 4K content can deliver a more immersive visual experience to consumers due to the huge improvement of spatial resolution. However, existing blind image quality assessment (BIQA) methods are not suitable for the original and upscaled 4K contents due to the expanded resolution and specific distortions. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based BIQA model for 4K content, which on one hand can recognize true and pseudo 4K content and on the other hand can evaluate their perceptual visual quality. Considering the characteristic that high spatial resolution can represent more abundant high-frequency information, we first propose a Grey-level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) based texture complexity measure to select three representative image patches from a 4K image, which can reduce the computational complexity and is proven to be very effective for the overall quality prediction through experiments. Then we extract different kinds of visual features from the intermediate layers of the convolutional neural network (CNN) and integrate them into the quality-aware feature representation. Finally, two multilayer perception (MLP) networks are utilized to map the quality-aware features into the class probability and the quality score for each patch respectively. The overall quality index is obtained through the average pooling of patch results. The proposed model is trained through the multi-task learning manner and we introduce an uncertainty principle to balance the losses of the classification and regression tasks. The experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms all compared BIQA metrics on four 4K content quality assessment databases.

End-to-End Human-Gaze-Target Detection with Transformers

In this paper, we propose an effective and efficient method for Human-Gaze-Target (HGT) detection, i.e., gaze following. Current approaches decouple the HGT detection task into separate branches of salient object detection and human gaze prediction, employing a two-stage framework where human head locations must first be detected and then be fed into the next gaze target prediction sub-network. In contrast, we redefine the HGT detection task as detecting human head locations and their gaze targets, simultaneously. By this way, our method, named Human-Gaze-Target detection TRansformer or HGTTR, streamlines the HGT detection pipeline by eliminating all other additional components. HGTTR reasons about the relations of salient objects and human gaze from the global image context. Moreover, unlike existing two-stage methods that require human head locations as input and can predict only one human's gaze target at a time, HGTTR can directly predict the locations of all people and their gaze targets at one time in an end-to-end manner. The effectiveness and robustness of our proposed method are verified with extensive experiments on the two standard benchmark datasets, GazeFollowing and VideoAttentionTarget. Without bells and whistles, HGTTR outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods by large margins (6.4 mAP gain on GazeFollowing and 10.3 mAP gain on VideoAttentionTarget) with a much simpler architecture.

No-Reference Quality Assessment for 3D Colored Point Cloud and Mesh Models

To improve the viewer's Quality of Experience (QoE) and optimize computer graphics applications, 3D model quality assessment (3D-QA) has become an important task in the multimedia area. Point cloud and mesh are the two most widely used digital representation formats of 3D models, the visual quality of which is quite sensitive to lossy operations like simplification and compression. Therefore, many related studies such as point cloud quality assessment (PCQA) and mesh quality assessment (MQA) have been carried out to measure the visual quality degradations of 3D models. However, a large part of previous studies utilize full-reference (FR) metrics, which indicates they can not predict the quality level with the absence of the reference 3D model. Furthermore, few 3D-QA metrics consider color information, which significantly restricts their effectiveness and scope of application. In this paper, we propose a no-reference (NR) quality assessment metric for colored 3D models represented by both point cloud and mesh. First, we project the 3D models from 3D space into quality-related geometry and color feature domains. Then, the 3D natural scene statistics (3D-NSS) and entropy are utilized to extract quality-aware features. Finally, machine learning is employed to regress the quality-aware features into visual quality scores. Our method is validated on the colored point cloud quality assessment database (SJTU-PCQA), the Waterloo point cloud assessment database (WPC), and the colored mesh quality assessment database (CMDM). The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms most compared NR 3D-QA metrics with competitive computational resources and greatly reduces the performance gap with the state-of-the-art FR 3D-QA metrics. The code of the proposed model is publicly available now to facilitate further research.

Parameterized Image Quality Score Distribution Prediction

Recently, image quality has been generally describedby a mean opinion score (MOS). However, we observe that thequality scores of an image given by a group of subjects are verysubjective and diverse. Thus it is not enough to use a MOS todescribe the image quality. In this paper, we propose to describeimage quality using a parameterized distribution rather thana MOS, and an objective method is also proposed to predictthe image quality score distribution (IQSD). At first, the LIVEdatabase is re-recorded. Specifically, we have invited a largegroup of subjects to evaluate the quality of all images in theLIVE database, and each image is evaluated by a large numberof subjects (187 valid subjects), whose scores can form a reliableIQSD. By analyzing the obtained subjective quality scores, wefind that the IQSD can be well modeled by an alpha stable model,and it can reflect much more information than a single MOS, suchas the skewness of opinion score, the subject diversity and themaximum probability score for an image. Therefore, we proposeto model the IQSD using the alpha stable model. Moreover, wepropose a framework and an algorithm to predict the alphastable model based IQSD, where quality features are extractedfrom each image based on structural information and statisticalinformation, and support vector regressors are trained to predictthe alpha stable model parameters. Experimental results verifythe feasibility of using alpha stable model to describe the IQSD,and prove the effectiveness of objective alpha stable model basedIQSD prediction method.

Perceptual Quality Assessment for Fine-Grained Compressed Images

Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of image storage and transmission systems, in which image compression plays an important role. Generally speaking, image compression algorithms are developed to ensure good visual quality at limited bit rates. However, due to the different compression optimization methods, the compressed images may have different levels of quality, which needs to be evaluated quantificationally. Nowadays, the mainstream full-reference (FR) metrics are effective to predict the quality of compressed images at coarse-grained levels (the bit rates differences of compressed images are obvious), however, they may perform poorly for fine-grained compressed images whose bit rates differences are quite subtle. Therefore, to better improve the Quality of Experience (QoE) and provide useful guidance for compression algorithms, we propose a full-reference image quality assessment (FR-IQA) method for compressed images of fine-grained levels. Specifically, the reference images and compressed images are first converted to $YCbCr$ color space. The gradient features are extracted from regions that are sensitive to compression artifacts. Then we employ the Log-Gabor transformation to further analyze the texture difference. Finally, the obtained features are fused into a quality score. The proposed method is validated on the fine-grained compression image quality assessment (FGIQA) database, which is especially constructed for assessing the quality of compressed images with close bit rates. The experimental results show that our metric outperforms mainstream FR-IQA metrics on the FGIQA database. We also test our method on other commonly used compression IQA databases and the results show that our method obtains competitive performance on the coarse-grained compression IQA databases as well.

Perceptual Quality Assessment of Omnidirectional Images

Omnidirectional images and videos can provide immersive experience of real-world scenes in Virtual Reality (VR) environment. We present a perceptual omnidirectional image quality assessment (IQA) study in this paper since it is extremely important to provide a good quality of experience under the VR environment. We first establish an omnidirectional IQA (OIQA) database, which includes 16 source images and 320 distorted images degraded by 4 commonly encountered distortion types, namely JPEG compression, JPEG2000 compression, Gaussian blur and Gaussian noise. Then a subjective quality evaluation study is conducted on the OIQA database in the VR environment. Considering that humans can only see a part of the scene at one movement in the VR environment, visual attention becomes extremely important. Thus we also track head and eye movement data during the quality rating experiments. The original and distorted omnidirectional images, subjective quality ratings, and the head and eye movement data together constitute the OIQA database. State-of-the-art full-reference (FR) IQA measures are tested on the OIQA database, and some new observations different from traditional IQA are made.

Saliency in Augmented Reality

With the rapid development of multimedia technology, Augmented Reality (AR) has become a promising next-generation mobile platform. The primary theory underlying AR is human visual confusion, which allows users to perceive the real-world scenes and augmented contents (virtual-world scenes) simultaneously by superimposing them together. To achieve good Quality of Experience (QoE), it is important to understand the interaction between two scenarios, and harmoniously display AR contents. However, studies on how this superimposition will influence the human visual attention are lacking. Therefore, in this paper, we mainly analyze the interaction effect between background (BG) scenes and AR contents, and study the saliency prediction problem in AR. Specifically, we first construct a Saliency in AR Dataset (SARD), which contains 450 BG images, 450 AR images, as well as 1350 superimposed images generated by superimposing BG and AR images in pair with three mixing levels. A large-scale eye-tracking experiment among 60 subjects is conducted to collect eye movement data. To better predict the saliency in AR, we propose a vector quantized saliency prediction method and generalize it for AR saliency prediction. For comparison, three benchmark methods are proposed and evaluated together with our proposed method on our SARD. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method on both of the common saliency prediction problem and the AR saliency prediction problem over benchmark methods. Subjective Quality Assessment for Images Generated by Computer Graphics

With the development of rendering techniques, computer graphics generated images (CGIs) have been widely used in practical application scenarios such as architecture design, video games, simulators, movies, etc. Different from natural scene images (NSIs), the distortions of CGIs are usually caused by poor rending settings and limited computation resources. What's more, some CGIs may also suffer from compression distortions in transmission systems like cloud gaming and stream media. However, limited work has been put forward to tackle the problem of computer graphics generated images' quality assessment (CG-IQA). Therefore, in this paper, we establish a large-scale subjective CG-IQA database to deal with the challenge of CG-IQA tasks. We collect 25,454 in-the-wild CGIs through previous databases and personal collection. After data cleaning, we carefully select 1,200 CGIs to conduct the subjective experiment. Several popular no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) methods are tested on our database. The experimental results show that the handcrafted-based methods achieve low correlation with subjective judgment and deep learning based methods obtain relatively better performance, which demonstrates that the current NR-IQA models are not suitable for CG-IQA tasks and more effective models are urgently needed.

Video-based Human-Object Interaction Detection from Tubelet Tokens

We present a novel vision Transformer, named TUTOR, which is able to learn tubelet tokens, served as highly-abstracted spatiotemporal representations, for video-based human-object interaction (V-HOI) detection. The tubelet tokens structurize videos by agglomerating and linking semantically-related patch tokens along spatial and temporal domains, which enjoy two benefits: 1) Compactness: each tubelet token is learned by a selective attention mechanism to reduce redundant spatial dependencies from others; 2) Expressiveness: each tubelet token is enabled to align with a semantic instance, i.e., an object or a human, across frames, thanks to agglomeration and linking. The effectiveness and efficiency of TUTOR are verified by extensive experiments. Results shows our method outperforms existing works by large margins, with a relative mAP gain of $16.14\%$ on VidHOI and a 2 points gain on CAD-120 as well as a $4 \times$ speedup.

A multiple attributes image quality database for smartphone camera photo quality assessment

Smartphone is the superstar product in digital device market and the quality of smartphone camera photos (SCPs) is becoming one of the dominant considerations when consumers purchase smartphones. How to evaluate the quality of smartphone cameras and the taken photos is urgent issue to be solved. To bridge the gap between academic research accomplishment and industrial needs, in this paper, we establish a new Smartphone Camera Photo Quality Database (SCPQD2020) including 1800 images with 120 scenes taken by 15 smartphones. Exposure, color, noise and texture which are four dominant factors influencing the quality of SCP are evaluated in the subjective study, respectively. Ten popular no-reference (NR) image quality assessment (IQA) algorithms are tested and analyzed on our database. Experimental results demonstrate that the current objective models are not suitable for SCPs, and quality metrics having high correlation with human visual perception are highly needed.

Blurry Video Frame Interpolation

Existing works reduce motion blur and up-convert frame rate through two separate ways, including frame deblurring and frame interpolation. However, few studies have approached the joint video enhancement problem, namely synthesizing high-frame-rate clear results from low-frame-rate blurry inputs. In this paper, we propose a blurry video frame interpolation method to reduce motion blur and up-convert frame rate simultaneously. Specifically, we develop a pyramid module to cyclically synthesize clear intermediate frames. The pyramid module features adjustable spatial receptive field and temporal scope, thus contributing to controllable computational complexity and restoration ability. Besides, we propose an inter-pyramid recurrent module to connect sequential models to exploit the temporal relationship. The pyramid module integrates a recurrent module, thus can iteratively synthesize temporally smooth results without significantly increasing the model size. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method performs favorably against state-of-the-art methods.

Toward Better Understanding of Saliency Prediction in Augmented 360 Degree Videos

Augmented reality (AR) overlays digital content onto the reality. In AR system, correct and precise estimations of user's visual fixations and head movements can enhance the quality of experience by allocating more computation resources on the areas of interest. However, there is inadequate research about understanding the visual exploration of users when using an AR system or modeling AR visual attention. To bridge the gap between the saliency prediction on real-world scene and on scene augmented by virtual information, we construct the ARVR saliency dataset with 12 diverse videos viewed by 20 people. The virtual reality (VR) technique is employed to simulate the real-world. Annotations of object recognition and tracking as augmented contents are blended into the omnidirectional videos. The saliency annotations of head and eye movements for both original and augmented videos are collected and together constitute the ARVR dataset. We also design a model which is capable of solving the saliency prediction problem in AR. Local block images are extracted to simulate the viewport and offset the projection distortion. Conspicuous visual cues in local viewports are extracted to constitute the spatial features. The optical flow information is estimated as the important temporal feature. We also consider the interplay between virtual information and reality. The composition of the augmentation information is distinguished, and the joint effects of adversarial augmentation and complementary augmentation are estimated. We generate a graph by taking each block image as one node. Both the visual saliency mechanism and the characteristics of viewing behaviors are considered in the computation of edge weights on the graph which are interpreted as Markov chains. The fraction of the visual attention that is diverted to each block image is estimated through equilibrium distribution on of this chain.
