Study of $b\to c$ induced $\bar{B}^* \to V \ell \barν_\ell$ decays

In this paper, we investigate the tree-dominated $\bar{B}^*_{u,d,s,c} \to V \ell^- \barν_\ell$ ($V=D^*_{u,d}\,,D^*_s\,,J/ψ$ and $\ell=e\,,μ\,,τ$) decays in the Standard Model with the relevant form factors obtained in the light-front quark model. These decays involve much more helicity states relative to the corresponding $\bar{B}^* \to P \ell^- \barν_\ell$ and $\bar{B} \to V \ell^- \barν_\ell$ decays, and moreover, the contribution of longitudinal polarization mode ($V$ meson) is relatively small, $\sim 30\%$, compared with the corresponding $B$ meson decays. We have also computed the branching fraction, lepton spin asymmetry, forward-backward asymmetry and ratio $R_V^{\ast(L)}\equiv \frac{\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^*\to Vτ^- \barν_τ)}{\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^*\to V \ell^{\prime-} \barν_{\ell^{\prime}})}$ ($\ell'=e\,,μ$). Numerically, the branching fractions of $\bar{B}^* \to V \ell^{\prime-} \barν_{\ell^{\prime}}$ decays are at the level of ${\cal O}(10^{-7})$, and are hopeful to be observed by LHC and Belle-II experiments. The ratios $R_{D^*\,,D^*_s\,,J/ψ}^{\ast(L)}$ have relatively small theoretical uncertainties and are close to each other, $R^{*(L)}_{D^*}\simeq R^{*(L)}_{D^*_s}\simeq R^{*(L)}_{J/ψ} \simeq [0.26,0.27]~([0.27,0.29])$, which are a bit different from the predictions in some previous works. The future measurements are expected to make tests on these predictions.

Tensor form factors of $P\to P,\,S,\,V$ and $A$ transitions within the standard and the covariant light-front approaches

In this paper, we investigate the tensor form factors of $P\to P,\,S,\,V$ and $A$ transitions within the standard light-front (SLF) and the covariant light-front (CLF) quark models (QMs). The self-consistency and Lorentz covariance of CLF QM are analyzed via these quantities, and the effects of zero-mode are discussed. For the $P\to V$ and $A$ transitions, besides the inconsistence between the results extracted via longitudinal and transverse polarization states, which is caused by the residual $ω$-dependent spurious contributions, we find and analyze a "new" self-consistence problem of the traditional CLF QM, which is caused by the different strategies for dealing deal with the trace term in CLF matrix element. A possible solution to the problems of traditional CLF QM is discussed and confirmed numerically. Finally, the theoretical predictions for the tensor form factors of some $c\to q,\,s$ and $b\to q,\,s\,,c$ ($q=u,d$) induced $P\to P,\,S,\,V$ and $A$ transitions are updated within the CLF QM with a self-consistent scheme.

Study of semileptonic $\bar{B}^* \to P \ell \barν_\ell$ decays

In anticipation of abundant $B^*$ data samples at high-luminosity heavy-flavor experiments in the future, the tree-dominated semileptonic $\bar{B}^*_{u,d,s} \to P \ell^- \barν_\ell$ $(P=D\,,D_s\,,π\,,K)$ decays are studied within the Standard Model. After a detailed calculation of the helicity amplitudes, the theoretical predictions for branching fraction~(decay rate), lepton spin asymmetry, forward-backward asymmetry and ratio $R_D^{\ast(L)}$ are firstly presented. It is found that the CKM-favored $\bar{B}^* \to D \ell^- \barν_\ell$ decays have relatively large branching fractions of ${\cal O}(10^{-9})$$\sim$${\cal O}(10^{-7})$, and are in the scope of running LHC and forthcoming SuperKEKB/Belle-II experiments.

Multiple Fermi pockets revealed by Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in WTe2

We use magneto-transport measurements to investigate the electronic structure of WTe2 single crystals. A non-saturating and parabolic magnetoresistance is observed in the temperature range between 2.5 to 200 K and magnetic fields up to 8 T. Shubnikov - de Haas oscillations with beating patterns are observed. The fast Fourier transform of the SdH oscillations reveals three oscillation frequencies, corresponding to three pairs of Fermi pockets with comparable effective masses , m* ~ 0.31 me. By fitting the Hall resistivity, we infer the presence of one pair of electron pockets and two pairs of hole pockets, together with nearly perfect compensation of the electron-hole carrier concentration. These magnetotransport measurements reveal the complex electronic structure in WTe2, explaining the nonsaturating magnetoresistance.

Observation of topological transition of Fermi surface from a spindle-torus to a torus in large bulk Rashba spin-split BiTeCl

The recently observed large Rashba-type spin splitting in the BiTeX (X = I, Br, Cl) bulk states due to the absence of inversion asymmetry and large charge polarity enables observation of the transition in Fermi surface topology from spindle-torus to torus with varying the carrier density. These BiTeX systems with high spin-orbit energy scales offer an ideal platform for achieving practical spintronic applications and realizing non-trivial phenomena such as topological superconductivity and Majorana fermions. Here we use Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations to investigate the electronic structure of the bulk conduction band of BiTeCl single crystals with different carrier densities. We observe the topological transition of the Fermi surface (FS) from a spindle-torus to a torus. The Landau level fan diagram reveals the expected non-trivial π Berry phase for both the inner and outer FSs. Angle-dependent oscillation measurements reveal three-dimensional FS topology when the Fermi level lies in the vicinity of the Dirac point. All the observations are consistent with large Rashba spin-orbit splitting in the bulk conduction band.

Transport evidence for the coexistence of the topological surface state and a two-dimensional electron gas in BiSbTe3 topological insulator

Topological insulators (TIs) are new insulating materials with exotic surface states, where the motion of charge carriers is described by the Dirac equations and their spins are locked in a perpendicular direction to their momentum. Recent studies by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy have demonstrated that a conventional two-dimensional electron gas can coexist with the topological surface state due to the quantum confinement effect. The coexistence is expected to give rise to exotic transport properties, which, however, have not been explored so far. Here, we report a magneto-transport study on single crystals of the topological insulator BiSbTe3. Besides Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations and weak anti-localization (WAL) from the topological surface state, we also observed a crossover from the weak anti-localization to weak localization (WL) with increasing magnetic field, which is temperature dependent and exhibits two-dimensional features. The crossover is proposed to be the transport manifestation of the coexistence of the topological surface state and two-dimensional electron gas on the surface of TIs.

Enhancement of the in-field Jc of MgB2 via SiCl4 doping

In this work, we present the following important results: 1) We introduce a new Si source, liquid SiCl4, which is free of C, to significantly enhance the irreversibility field (Hirr), the upper critical field (Hc2), and the critical current density (Jc), with little reduction in the critical temperature (Tc). 2) Although Si can not incorporate into the crystal lattice, we found a reduction in the a-axis lattice parameter, to the same extent as for carbon doping. 3) The SiCl4 treated MgB2 shows much higher Jc with superior field dependence above 20 K than undoepd MgB2 and MgB2 doped with various carbon sources. 3) We provide an alternative interpretation for the reduction of the a lattice parameter in C- and non-C doped MgB2. 4). We introduce a new parameter, RHH (Hc2/Hirr), which can clearly reflect the degree of flux pinning enhancement, providing us with guidance for further enhancing Jc. 5) We have found that spatial variation in the charge carrier mean free path is responsible for the flux pinning mechanism in the SiCl4 treated MgB2 with large in-field Jc.

Very strong intrinsic supercurrent carrying ability and vortex avalanches in (Ba,K)Fe2As2 superconducting single crystals

We report that single crystals of (Ba,K)Fe2As2 with Tc = 32 K have a pinning potential, U0, as high as 10^4 K, with U0 showing very little field depend-ence. In addition, the (Ba,K)Fe2As2 single crystals become isotropic at low temperatures and high magnetic fields, resulting in a very rigid vortex lattice, even in fields very close to Hc2. The rigid vortices in the two dimensional (Ba,K)Fe2As2 distinguish this compound from 2D high Tc cuprate superconductors with 2D vortices, and make it being capable of cearrying very high critical current.Flux jumping due to high Jc was also observed in large samples at low temperatures.
