Pseudospectral computational methods for the time-dependent Dirac equation in static curved spaces

Pseudospectral numerical schemes for solving the Dirac equation in general static curved space are derived using a pseudodifferential representation of the Dirac equation along with a simple Fourier-basis technique. Owing to the presence of non-constant coefficients in the curved space Dirac equation, convolution products usually appear when the Fourier transform is performed. The strategy based on pseudodifferential operators allows for efficient computations of these convolution products by using an ordinary fast Fourier transform algorithm. The resulting numerical methods are efficient and have spectral convergence. Simultaneously, wave absorption at the boundary can be easily derived using absorbing layers to cope with some potential negative effects of periodic conditions inherent to spectral methods. The numerical schemes are first tested on simple systems to verify the convergence and are then applied to the dynamics of charge carriers in strained graphene.

Isogeometric finite element analysis of time-harmonic exterior acoustic scattering problems

We present an isogeometric analysis of time-harmonic exterior acoustic problems. The infinite space is truncated by a fictitious boundary and (simple) absorbing boundary conditions are applied. The truncation error is included in the exact solution so that the reported error is an indicator of the performance of the isogeometric analysis, in particular of the related pollution error. Numerical results performed with high-order basis functions (third or fourth orders) showed no visible pollution error even for very high frequencies. This property combined with exact geometrical representation makes isogeometric analysis a very promising platform to solve high-frequency acoustic problems.

On the ground states and dynamics of space fractional nonlinear Schrödinger/Gross-Pitaevskii equations with rotation term and nonlocal nonlinear interactions

In this paper, we propose some efficient and robust numerical methods to compute the ground states and dynamics of Fractional Schrödinger Equation (FSE) with a rotation term and nonlocal nonlinear interactions. In particular, a newly developed Gaussian-sum (GauSum) solver is used for the nonlocal interaction evaluation \cite{EMZ2015}. To compute the ground states, we integrate the preconditioned Krylov subspace pseudo-spectral method \cite{AD1} and the GauSum solver. For the dynamics simulation, using the rotating Lagrangian coordinates transform \cite{BMTZ2013}, we first reformulate the FSE into a new equation without rotation. Then, a time-splitting pseudo-spectral scheme incorporated with the GauSum solver is proposed to simulate the new FSE.

$μ$-diff: an open-source Matlab toolbox for computing multiple scattering problems by disks

The aim of this paper is to describe a Matlab toolbox, called $μ$-diff, for modeling and numerically solving two-dimensional complex multiple scattering by a large collection of circular cylinders. The approximation methods in $μ$-diff are based on the Fourier series expansions of the four basic integral operators arising in scattering theory. Based on these expressions, an efficient spectrally accurate finite-dimensional solution of multiple scattering problems can be simply obtained for complex media even when many scatterers are considered as well as large frequencies. The solution of the global linear system to solve can use either direct solvers or preconditioned iterative Krylov subspace solvers for block Toeplitz matrices. Based on this approach, this paper explains how the code is built and organized. Some complete numerical examples of applications (direct and inverse scattering) are provided to show that $μ$-diff is a flexible, efficient and robust toolbox for solving some complex multiple scattering problems.

Computational methods for the dynamics of the nonlinear Schrodinger/Gross-Pitaevskii equations

In this paper, we begin with the nonlinear Schrodinger/Gross-Pitaevskii equation (NLSE/GPE) for modeling Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) and nonlinear optics as well as other applications, and discuss their dynamical properties ranging from time reversible, time transverse invariant, mass and energy conservation, dispersion relation to soliton solutions. Then, we review and compare different numerical methods for solving the NLSE/GPE including finite difference time domain methods and time-splitting spectral method, and discuss different absorbing boundary conditions. In addition, these numerical methods are extended to the NLSE/GPE with damping terms and/or an angular momentum rotation term as well as coupled NLSEs/GPEs. Finally, applications to simulate a quantized vortex lattice dynamics in a rotating BEC are reported.
