Homogenization of Schrodinger equations. Extended Effective Mass Theorems for non-crystalline matter

This paper concerns the homogenization of Schrodinger equations for non-crystalline matter, that is to say the coefficients are given by the composition of stationary functions with stochastic deformations. Two rigorous results of so-called effective mass theorems in solid state physics are obtained: a general abstract result (beyond the classical stationary ergodic setting), and one for quasi-perfect materials (i.e. the disorder in the non-crystalline matter is limited). The former relies on the double-scale limits and the wave function is spanned on the Bloch basis. Therefore, we have extended the Bloch Theory which was restrict until now to crystals (periodic setting). The second result relies on the Perturbation Theory and a special case of stochastic deformations, namely stochastic perturbation of the identity.

On a Characterization of the Rellich-Kondrachov Theorem on Groups

Motivated by an eigenvalue-eigenfunction problem posed in IR^n x Ω, where Ω is a probability space, we are concerned in this paper with the Sobolev space on groups. Hence it is established an equivalence between locally compact Abelian groups and the space of solutions to the associated variational problem. Then, we study some conditions which characterize in a precisely manner the Rellich-Kondrachov Theorem, the principal ingredient to solve the variational problem.

Solvability of the Fractional Hyperbolic Keller-Segel System

We study a new nonlocal approach to the mathematical modelling of the Chemotaxis problem, which describes the random motion of a certain population due a substance concentration. Considering the initial-boundary value problem for the fractional hyperbolic Keller-Segel model, we prove the solvability of the problem. The solvability result relies mostly on fractional calculus and kinetic formulation of scalar conservation laws.

Stochastic transport equations with unbounded divergence

We study in this article the existence and uniqueness of solutions to a class of stochastic transport equations with irregular coefficients and unbounded divergence. In the first result we assume the drift is $L^{2}([0,T] \times \R^{d})\cap L^{\infty}([0,T] \times \R^{d})$ and the divergence is the locally integrable. In the second result we show that the smoothing acts as a selection criterion when the drift is in $L^{2}([0,T] \times \R^{d})\cap L^{\infty}([0,T] \times \R^{d})$ without any condition on the divergence.

Stochastic transport equation in bounded domains

This paper is concerned with the initial-boundary value problem \; for stochastic transport equations in bounded domains. For a given stochastic perturbation of the drift vector field, we prove existence and uniqueness of weak solutions with non-regular coefficients. The existence of weak solutions relies strongly on the existence of strong stochastic trace, and also on the passage from the Stratonovich into Itô's formulation for bounded domains. Moreover, the uniqueness of weak solutions is obtained under suitable conditions.

Flows generated by divergence free vector fields with compact support

We are concerned with the theory of existence and uniqueness of flows generated by divergence free vector fields with compact support. Hence, assuming that the velocity vector fields are measurable, bounded, and the flows in the Euclidean space are measure preserving, we show two counterexamples of uniqueness/existence for such flows. First we consider the autonomous case in dimension 3, and then, the non autonomous one in dimension 2.

On a class of stochastic transport equations for L2loc vector fields

We study in this article the existence and uniqueness of solutions to a class of stochastic transport equations with irregular coefficients. Asking only boundedness of the divergence of the coefficients (a classical condition in both the deterministic and stochastic setting), we can lower the integrability regularity required in known results on the coefficients themselves and on the initial condition, and still prove uniqueness of solutions.

The obstacle-mass constraint problem for hyperbolic conservation laws. Solvability

In this work we introduce the obstacle-mass constraint problem for a multidimensional scalar hyperbolic conservation law. We prove existence of an entropy solution to this problem by a penalization/viscosity method. The mass constraint introduces a nonlocal Lagrange multiplier in the penalized equation, giving rise to a nonlocal parabolic problem. We determine conditions on the initial data and on the obstacle function which ensure global in time existence of solution. These are not smoothness conditions, but relate to the propagation of the support of the initial data.

Wellposedness for stochastic continuity equations with Ladyzhenskaya-Prodi-Serrin condition

We consider the stochastic divergence-free continuity equations with Ladyzhenskaya-Prodi-Serrin condition. Wellposedness is proved meanwhile uniqueness may fail for the deterministic PDE. The main issue of uniqueness realies on stochastic characteristic method and the generalized Ito-Ventzel-Kunita formula. Moreover, we prove a stability property for the solution with respect to the initial datum.

Multi-Time Systems of Conservation Laws

Motivated by the work of P.L. Lions and J-C. Rochet [12], concerning multi-time Hamilton-Jacobi equations, we introduce the theory of multi-time systems of conservation laws. We show the existence and uniqueness of solution to the Cauchy problem for a system of multi-time conservation laws with two independent time variables in one space dimension. Our proof relies on a suitable generalization of the Lax-Oleinik formula.

Persistence property in weighted Sobolev spaces for nonlinear dispersive equations

We generalize the Abstract Interpolation Lemma proved by the authors in [2]. Using this extension, we show in a more general context, the persistence property for the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation, see (1.2), in the weighted Sobolev space with low regularity in the weight. The method used can be applied for other nonlinear dispersive models, for instance the multidimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation.

A geometric approach to error estimates for conservation laws posed on a spacetime

We consider a hyperbolic conservation law posed on an (N+1)-dimensional spacetime, whose flux is a field of differential forms of degree N. Generalizing the classical Kuznetsov's method, we derive an L1 error estimate which applies to a large class of approximate solutions. In particular, we apply our main theorem and deal with two entropy solutions associated with distinct flux fields, as well as with an entropy solution and an approximate solution. Our framework encompasses, for instance, equations posed on a globally hyperbolic Lorentzian manifold.

Optimal boundary holes for the Sobolev trace constant

In this paper we study the problem of minimizing the Sobolev trace Rayleigh quotient $\|u\|_{W^{1,p}(Ω)}^p / \|u\|_{L^q(\partialΩ)}^p$ among functions that vanish in a set contained on the boundary $\partialΩ$ of given boundary measure. We prove existence of extremals for this problem, and analyze some particular cases where information about the location of the optimal boundary set can be given. Moreover, we further study the shape derivative of the Sobolev trace constant under regular perturbations of the boundary set.

Well-posedness of the Cauchy Problem on Torus to Electromagnetoelastic System

We prove the well-posedness of the Cauchy problem on torus to an eletromagnetoelastic system. The physical model consists of three coupled partial differential equations, one of them is a hyperbolic equation describing the elastic medium and two other ones form a parabolic system, which comes from Maxwell's equations. Experimental measurements suggest that the elastic medium has a periodic structure, moreover with finite number of discontinuities on the fundamental domain. Thus we have study in this paper the problem which we have defined as periodically Cauchy diffraction problem.
