Industry 4.0: contributions of holonic manufacturing control architectures and future challenges

The flexibility claimed by the next generation production systems induces a deep modification of the behaviour and the core itself of the control systems. Over-connectivity and data management abilities targeted by Industry 4.0 paradigm enable the emergence of more flexible and reactive control systems, based on the cooperation of autonomous and connected entities in the decision-making process. From most relevant articles extracted from existing literature, a list of 10 key enablers for Industry 4.0 is first presented. During the last 20 years, the holonic paradigm has become a major paradigm of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems. After the presentation of the holonic paradigm and holon properties, this article highlights how historical and current holonic control architectures can partly fulfil I4.0 key enablers. The remaining unfulfilled key enablers are then the subject of an extensive discussion on the remaining research perspectives on holonic architectures needed to achieve a complete support of Industry4.0.

An uniform data replication algorithm in wireless micro-sensor network for communicating materials application

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) have recently gained a great deal of attention as a topic of research, with a wide range of applications being explored such as communicating materials. Data dissemination and storage are very important issues for sensor networks. The problem of designing data dissemination protocols for communicating material needs different analyses related to storage density and uniformity which has not been addressed sufficiently in the literature. This paper details storage protocol on the material by systematic dissemination through integrated wireless micro-sensors nodes. The performances of our solutions are evaluated through simulation using Castalia/OMNeT++. The results show that our algorithm provides uniform data storage in communicating material for different density level.

Key Factors for Information Dissemination on Communicating Products and Fixed Databases

Intelligent products carrying their own information are more and more present nowadays. In recent years, some authors argued the usage of such products for the Supply Chain Management Industry. Indeed, a multitude of informational vectors take place in such environments like fixed databases or manufactured products on which we are able to embed significant proportion of data. By considering distributed database systems, we can allocate specific data fragments to the product useful to manage its own evolution. The paper aims to analyze the Supply Chain performance according to different strategies of information distribution. Thus, different distribution patterns between informational vectors are studied. The purpose is to determine the key factors which lead to improve information distribution performance in term of time properties.
