Fréchet and (LB) sequence spaces induced by dual Banach spaces of discrete Cesàro spaces

The Fréchet (resp.\ (LB)) sequence spaces $ces(p+) := \cap_{r > p} ces(r), 1 \leq p < \infty $ (resp.\ $ ces (p-) := \cup_{ 1 < r < p} ces (r), 1 < p \leq \infty),$ are known to be very different to the classical sequence spaces $ \ell_ {p+} $ (resp., $ \ell_{p_{-}}).$ Both of these classes of non-normable spaces $ ces (p+), ces (p-)$ are defined via the family of reflexive Banach sequence spaces $ ces (p), 1 < p < \infty .$ The dual Banach spaces $ d (q), 1 < q < \infty ,$ of the discrete Cesàro spaces $ ces (p), 1 < p < \infty,$ were studied by G.\ Bennett, A.\ Jagers and others. Our aim is to investigate in detail the corresponding sequence spaces $ d (p+) $ and $ d (p-),$ which have not been considered before. Some of their properties have similarities with those of $ ces (p+), ces (p-)$ but, they also exhibit differences. For instance, $ ces (p+)$ is isomorphic to a power series Fréchet space of order 1, whereas $ d (p+) $ is isomorphic to such a space of infinite order. Every space $ ces (p+), ces (p-) $ admits an absolute basis but, none of the spaces $ d (p+), d (p-)$ have any absolute basis.

The Cesaro operator in growth Banach spaces of analytic functions

The Cesaro operator $\mathsf{C}$, when acting in the classical growth Banach spaces $A^{-γ}$ and $A_0^{-γ}$, for $γ> 0 $, of analytic functions on $\mathbb{D}$, is investigated. Based on a detailed knowledge of their spectra (due to A. Aleman and A.-M. Persson) we are able to determine the norms of these operators precisely. It is then possible to characterize the mean ergodic and related properties of $\mathsf{C}$ acting in these spaces. In addition, we determine the largest Banach space of analytic functions on $\mathbb{D}$ which $\mathsf{C}$ maps into $A^{-γ}$ (resp. into $A_0^{-γ}$); this optimal domain space always contains $A^{-γ}$ (resp. $A_0^{-γ}$) as a proper subspace.

Abstract Cesàro spaces: Integral representations

The Cesàro function spaces $Ces_p=[C,L^p]$, $1\le p\le\infty$, have received renewed attention in recent years. Many properties of $[C,L^p]$ are known. Less is known about $[C,X]$ when the Cesàro operator takes its values in a rearrangement invariant (r.i.) space $X$ other than $L^p$. In this paper we study the spaces $[C,X]$ via the methods of vector measures and vector integration. These techniques allow us to identify the absolutely continuous part of $[C,X]$ and the Fatou completion of $[C,X]$; to show that $[C,X]$ is never reflexive and never r.i.; to identify when $[C,X]$ is weakly sequentially complete, when it is isomorphic to an AL-space, and when it has the Dunford-Pettis property. The same techniques are used to analyze the operator $C:[C,X]\to X$; it is never compact but, it can be completely continuous.

Mean ergodic properties of the continuous Cesàro operators

Various properties of the (continuous) Cesàro operator $\mathsf{C}$, acting on Banach and Fréchet spaces of continuous functions and $L^p$-spaces, are investigated. For instance, the spectrum and point spectrum of $\mathsf{C}$ are completely determined and a study of certain dynamics of $\mathsf{C}$ is undertaken (eg. hyper- and supercyclicity, chaotic behaviour). In addition, the mean (and uniform mean) ergodic nature of $\mathsf{C}$ acting in the various spaces is identified.
